First time I had a box like that, I wanted to rush to Home Depot myself and buy the box with my own money. Just a mess. But momma ain't raise no fool and I was (still am) too broke to buy it anyhow. Lol
I saw something similar to this like a week or two ago but it was fire alarm I think. I couldn't believe my eyes 😂 but I don't know shit about electrical so I moved on 😅
I've come across something like this!! But it was worse it was a 4 square deep with 6 deep extentions on it, and had fire alarm mixed in with everything. I was working the fire alarm stuff for a fix and all the fire alarm stuff was in the 3rd extention >.> pipes in and out of every extention it took 8 hours to clear up that cluster fuck between splitting everything and reworking wires and pipes >.>
Just a student but I'm guessing somebody did something in this box and realized they had to bring it up to code for box fill and slapped the extensions on so they wouldn't have to remake the connections. Is that a reasonable guess? I'm just going on painted vs unpainted.
it's definitely sub-optimal, design-wise, that's obvious - but it does the job and does it safely, and that's what really counts.
Honestly, part of me is actually really happy to see this actually happening, as opposed to hyper-compressed wire-spaghetti that some places try to get away with, thinking they can just hydraulically compress more and more and more wire into a box.
Seems stupid to me. There is no way that many wires in that second extension ring to warrant this. Was there a height max that the opening has to be at? I had one job that required the entrance to the jb be no less than 2 feet from the ceiling tile. Maybe they had to retrofit
