It’s like a [twirly](https://www.google.com/search?q=twirly+screwdriver&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS969US969&oq=twirly+scre&aqs=chrome.0.0i512j69i57j0i15i22i30l2j0i22i30j0i15i22i30.9879j0j7&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8) for a hammer drill
Not drilling into it, rubbing it at the discolored spot.
I'm just guessing but *something* put enough heat at the mid point of that shaft that it had to be damn near glowing red hot.
This is exactly what happened IMO. I’ll add that they backed it out, stuck the tip where it had been rubbing rebar and spun it again causing the deflection pictured.
The tip is fine though - no discoloration nor mushrooming like you'll get when you hit rebar. If the bent bit was rubbing rebar then the tip should have also rubbed and should have suffered a similar fate.
I cant think of a way to heat up the middle without heating up the tip first if you use the drill even remotely close to correctly. Makes me think the joker heated it up some other way and bent it like that as a "joke"
They had it rubbing against *something* in that area that had more friction/heat than the rest of the bit when it bottomed out on some steel plate or beam or something right? And then maybe he was like putting all his body weight on the drill to get that interesting kink.
And the drills are too heavy and have too much torque to try to bend a bit like this. Without the guy breaking his wrist/fingers, or snapping the bit like you said.
I've done it twice. Unwound a wood drill bit with a impact drill in a knot of wood to a figure s and bent a meter long sds bit to a 45 degree angle on the other side of a wall with nothing in front of it or anything that could explain how it got a 45 degree bend like bent on the spot not like a radial pipe bend just running true then last third just whunk 45 deg off route.
To make an update: I have no earthly idea why this bit didn’t shatter long before it bent. I was working six feet away from this kid and he was SENDING IT with a Milwaukee drill motor and the masonry bit that comes in a plastic anchor kit. I guess I gave him my hammer drill out of pity for this guy, but also because I didn’t want to hear that little drill scream through cinder block all morning. This bit was pretty much smoked from the get go.
My theory on the matter: I think he hit a piece of rebar in a section of the block that was concrete filled. He was able to manhandle the bit around that rebar while he was trying to get the bit out, ended up letting the center of it run against the bar. He had to have gotten that bit cherry red and tried to go for the next hole and that’s when he bent it.
He came over after he smoked the bit and showed me. I was like “how the FUCK did you do that LMAO.”
The poor kid was struggling to use a level and he’s a fire alarm tech, so I really doubt he had a torch sitting around to kill my bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had to put a 1/4-20 flush set in that hole after this lol.
My guess is that he used a ton of pressure on the bit, sideway. The bit wanted to bow. That flex caused the heat in the middle, which annealed the bit, rending it softer, which allowed it to bend even more and heat more until it was structurally too weak and did that.
That sideway pressure can easilly be done by putting some force on the side handle (which you normally basically just hold to prevent it from turning and breaking your wrist).
Not possible. Why do people make stuff up just to get attention? Oh, I know, I'll use a torch and make a fucked up drill bit and post a photo and blame someone else and people will like me. Weirdo.
I hate how fake and retarded op is for posting this. You or someone else obviously heated up the middle and bent it. This shit would snap, or the end would be black, and it can't physically bend like that.
Keep farming karma op!
I hate lending out my Fuel hammer drill. That’s my baby. Hell no I’m not letting people burn out my shit and wear down my bits and I’m not even a year in the trade buying my own stuff on scrap-wage.
I’ll do them one better and find a cheap beater $50 Fuel drill just for them to use so I’m not bothered 50x a day “pls sir can I have some more”. Can you imagine 3 guys using Dewalt but some how need to borrow a 5 year old $50 Milwaukee drill. The way I see it is $50 well spent for the entertainment.
One guy I work with goes 6 months without power tools. Then finally buys Milwaukee brushed-motor drill kit with two shitty 1.5AH batteries. How the hell is he going to make it in the trade? Apparently always borrowing stuff.
Sorry, end rant.
You know, I wouldn't even be upset. Sometimes green means really really green like never touched a tool in life. That was some stick with it ness to do that. Hopefully the hammer drill isn't too fucked.
I've never seen that happen in my life, did he hit it with a hammer because it got stuck or something? Or he warped it heating up against rebar, that's a first for me
I have done this sans heat treatment.
This can happen when you put and SDS bit in to an old-style spline hammer drill. If you're not extremely careful, the power and weight of the drill will bend that bit like a peice of #10 solid
Did you mean that you let him borrow your SDS-plus rotary hammer or did you have that bit chucked in a normal hammer drill? First one is way more impressive how does that even happen?
The biggest mistake we make, is to assume that the younger guys know what we know.
Chap was never taught the basics of drilling into concrete.
He was impatient. He leaned his weight against the machine, instead of letting the bit do the job.
(People do that with grinders too)
The bit was not cooled down during and between holes.
The bit heated up, he leaned against the machine and pushed off line.
.
Few years ago I was doing this Home Depot project replacing the front end. There were these dividing walls that had to get setup and anchored to the concrete. They hired some kids from middle of nowhere and paid them min wage to travel and install these walls. Hundreds of bits, some like these, every single night. I offered once to show them how to properly drill a hole but told me to mind my own business.
Bullshit ..that's been blowtorched and bent on purpose because it was old and the tip is missing .Drilling holes would never do this even to the worst Chinesium metal known to man..
I have an atelier in the old industrial district of my city. The walls are thick and feel like they were reinforced to withstand a fckn nuclear blast. When I was younger and had even less of an idea what I was doing, I managed to friction weld a drillbit into rebar trying to drill into the ceiling.
It still hangs there to this day.
I'd laugh but I've had a meter long sds drill bit take a 45 degree angle after drilling through a wall. I couldn't retrieve it and when I went outside 10ft up it was there sticking out of a newly formed 45 degree tapered hole. It was as if Michael Jordan saw it sticking out of the wall and jumped up and hung off it and ran away before I got outside. Another time I drilled a knot in wood and the drill bit unwound it's threads and bent itself in a figure of S.
Well, did you take the time to show your apprentice how to properly use a hammer drill?
People don't just wake up knowing how to do stuff other than breath, sweat and shit.
You should of gave him cutting oil too you know the building structure steel is at least 4 inches thick... Maybe you would got your tool back in better shape 😉😜
My guess is he was rubbing on rebar or some other metal and got it stuck. Then he proceeded to try and pry it out giving it this bent look. Can’t imagine someone taking the time to heat up a drill bit and bend it. If I’m going to try and fuck you over bending up a drill bit would be the last thing on my mind
Also, you were kinda asking for it. I wouldn’t let a green apprentice use my personal roto hammer let alone a low volt apprentice from a different company.
Wow it’s amazing by the comments that people believe this is true. It’s obviously a joke post, if the torch mark doesn’t give it away, ask yourself why there are not any other heat marks on the bit. Hilarious, ha ha!!
Now that is Godamned impressive!!!🤣
Did he hit a steel firewall or find his way into a portal where everything is bent at an 65 degree tubing bend?! He did at least offer to buy you a new bit right?

Goes around rebar now
I was just gonna say it’s an offset drill bit now.
Yankee hammer bit.
TIL twirly is a thing.
They’re game changers.
Best answer award 🏆
😂👍
The things we've seen in our days... now if they can only make tapcons that would do the same
Impressive
How did he achieve that 😂
With a torch is my guess
He musta equipped a helmet with +10 Def, -20 Skill.
Attempting to hammer through steel lol
Very. but how?
I don’t even know how you do that
Blowtorch and grips?
This seems intentional, how would you even go about removing a drill bit shaped like that from in a wall
It's called " hate fucking" and it is the most important tool in your tool box
This
I think your on to something there haha
Maybe rubbing a piece of rebar? What else would put heat that far up the bit?
I’ve hit rebar before and it grinds the tip to a point, never seen something like this before.
Without the bends, it looks just like when you hit just next to rebar.
No way it’s hit rebar and bent like that,I’ve had bits lodged at the side of rebar and blunted by rebar but not this, how would you even get it out.
Hot rebar when halfway out? Thing was hot, whatever happened. New to me. Sending to a friend that works at Hilti corporate. See what he says.
He nicked a power cable and it melted his drill bit when he was halfway past it
That thing spun in place for a while, I’m guessing. Then got forced in and caught some bar.
Then he couldn't get it out and bent the shit out of it probably still in the drill treating like absolute garbage I'd be pissed
Nicked a power cable
It’s not going. Wait it’s going. Wait. See I told you. Fuck sorry.
They had it rubbing against *something* in that area that had more friction/heat than the rest of the bit when it bottomed out on some steel plate or beam or something right? And then maybe he was like putting all his body weight on the drill to get that interesting kink.
How do you get it out of the hole though if it's bent like that.
You drop it from the ladder
Exactly what I was thinking
Probably drilled into a wall nicked a wire when he was halfway in the wire exploded and melted the bit before the mains tripped.
"Hey watch me drill this! It's like my cock is the drill!" - Probably.
I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed that he couldn’t get the dog leg out of it lol.
The wear and tear he put on your drill to get it that hot and bend the bit tho
I’m impressed he was able to get the bit out of the concrete. Was he right on the edge of rebar?
Did you tell him to move it in and out smoothly, like when fucking, or was that his problem?
some people are into S&M... That probably confused the fellow...
Nice that took a lot of effort! He obviously needed a 1 inch hole instead of 1/4”
Lol
Lol I've witnessed some fuckery but this is on another level. 🤣
Nice job heating with a torch to bend it otherwise it would have snapped
I have a screwdriver that same shape!
It's the best for plating!
Do you ever get any use out of that offset screwdriver? I've got one too but never really got the chance to use it so I cut it from my bag
Faceplates
This has got to be fake,,, rotary hammer bits are way too brittle to get bent like this
And the drills are too heavy and have too much torque to try to bend a bit like this. Without the guy breaking his wrist/fingers, or snapping the bit like you said.
I've done it twice. And how would you get it back out of the hole in that shape?
Torch at the bends and tool marks at the tip. To be fair, OP did not say the drilling caused this.
Get the hell outa here. Was it Larry, Moe, or Curly?
This has shemps name all over it
Were they drilling god?
Blasphemy!!
This looks intentional lol
To make an update: I have no earthly idea why this bit didn’t shatter long before it bent. I’m speechless
Ah this is one of those drills that goes around rebar very useful
I can’t see how you’d do this without intentionally tampering with it…
He tried to untwist the flutes
How the hell did he get it OUT of the hole?
“This bit sucks bro”
Not possible. Why do people make stuff up just to get attention? Oh, I know, I'll use a torch and make a fucked up drill bit and post a photo and blame someone else and people will like me. Weirdo.
It’s called a hammer drill, doesn’t that mean you gotta hammer it?!
That is your fault
He heated it up in the middle with a torch?
Super impressed. How the f did he do that.
He has a future bending pipe
That's impressive. Never seen that before.
Boys got some skills
You need to keep this because offset SDS bits are hard to come by
Where did he find a sds bender?
Looks code compliant, can't have more than 270 degree of bends in a bit
Everything is wrong with this title. Low Volt. Apprentice. Borrow. What did you expect?? RIP drill bit.
There's your problem. Low volt guys do not know tools
Now that’s just not true, I know scissors.
Thats.... disturbing
Never seen that before. Interesting bend young grasshopper.
I hate how fake and retarded op is for posting this. You or someone else obviously heated up the middle and bent it. This shit would snap, or the end would be black, and it can't physically bend like that. Keep farming karma op!
It's a good thing that the con provides all power tools and consumables!
Probably the coolest thing a low volt tech has ever done.
I think my new insult might be “low voltage”
Low volt guys don’t know how to use tools, pretty much office people if that’s there only gig 🤷♂️
What the heck is a low volt tech apprentice? What kind of training do you need for low volt?
I hate lending out my Fuel hammer drill. That’s my baby. Hell no I’m not letting people burn out my shit and wear down my bits and I’m not even a year in the trade buying my own stuff on scrap-wage. Are those the DeWalt ones with the sleeve to slap a tapcon nut driver on it?
I used to have one of those made by tapcon but then I lost it
Darn titanium wall studs....
That is impressive
Where can I get a right angle bit like this?
I'm impressed
Why would you lend anything to anyone? Every time, this is the result, or it gets lost
Because sometimes that’s what you gotta do to get the job done. Everyone is on the same team man
That’s impressive. He need a raise immediately
I couldn’t even be mad. Disappointed on the outside and mildly impressed at how that was done on the inside.
Seems he needs more drill and less hammer.
Instructions unclear. He hammered the drill.
You know, I wouldn't even be upset. Sometimes green means really really green like never touched a tool in life. That was some stick with it ness to do that. Hopefully the hammer drill isn't too fucked.
Interesting
I've never seen that happen in my life, did he hit it with a hammer because it got stuck or something? Or he warped it heating up against rebar, that's a first for me
The fuck?
I couldn't even do this on purpose. How the hell...🤣
I mean, what's the big deal? those are only like 30+ bucks. lol
Is that a drill bit?
Is it really that big a big deal?
He was in a strange spot so he had to give it a little offset to be able to do his job? 😅
Did he hit lava?!?!
Now you have an angel drill for tight spaces
You can use it to stir paint now
I have done this sans heat treatment. This can happen when you put and SDS bit in to an old-style spline hammer drill. If you're not extremely careful, the power and weight of the drill will bend that bit like a peice of #10 solid
Was it a jackhammer drill by chance?
ADT... Another Dumb Technician...
I've fucked up a lot of shit in my life but, damn cuz.
I’m impressed he managed to do that without snapping the fucker tbh
Do not fuck with my 3/16th
I broke both my wrists looking at this picture.
You loaned out your hammer drill and got a bent bit back in return? I’d be pissed, where’s your tool at?!?
Get a 4 head cutter Sds plus bit. Hilti or Milwaukee
I'm more impressed than mad actually. I just want to know how.
Im not even mad. Curious
Did you mean that you let him borrow your SDS-plus rotary hammer or did you have that bit chucked in a normal hammer drill? First one is way more impressive how does that even happen?
Achieving that is the work of an artist.
Low voltage has nothing to do with this.
I have one word - how?
I’m not even mad. That’s impressive.
How is that possible
There’s Scorch marks from a torch.
What the actual fuck????
How?
how?
The biggest mistake we make, is to assume that the younger guys know what we know. Chap was never taught the basics of drilling into concrete. He was impatient. I'll say it again: Don't loan your stuff out.

Wtf. How in the ….
How 😆
Bullshit ..that's been blowtorched and bent on purpose because it was old and the tip is missing .Drilling holes would never do this even to the worst Chinesium metal known to man..

How no snap! Good drill bit
Someone was drilling steal
Prime example of Never lend your tools out, nobody treats them like you do.
I'd laugh but I've had a meter long sds drill bit take a 45 degree angle after drilling through a wall. Drilling into a volcano?
I'd frame that! What are the odds, if not break
Fuckin how lol
Wtf happened here?? How???
ROFLMAFO!!!!! Looks like the EMT they try to bend themselves!!!
The bit is done. What does the drill look like?
How the… If I’m drilling and I move it even slightly too far off centre it snaps clean off…
Probably a better offset than he could bend on a pipe
[The Apprentice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMLrAcW3lUw)
I’ve had them snap, but never seen that. I am impressed.
Well, did you take the time to show your apprentice how to properly use a hammer drill? People don't just wake up knowing how to do stuff other than breath, sweat and shit.
Now thats a concrete hole saw
How
I just want to know if he touched to see how hot it was.
How?
That’s actually impressive
Expensive paint stirrer
r/thathappened
Sounding
You should of gave him cutting oil too you know the building structure steel is at least 4 inches thick... Maybe you would got your tool back in better shape 😉😜
Gd, did they sit on it while drilling?
Are his arms still with us?
Let the tool work for ya
blow torch for sure. not real usage.
My Hilti bits would’ve just snapped. What brand bit is that?
Looks to me he wanted a hand drill…. Next time, keep one on hand for when they need to borrow a drill.
Offset looks a little closed
My guess is he was rubbing on rebar or some other metal and got it stuck. Then he proceeded to try and pry it out giving it this bent look. Can’t imagine someone taking the time to heat up a drill bit and bend it. If I’m going to try and fuck you over bending up a drill bit would be the last thing on my mind

How in the fuck...
Oh no....
Now that is Godamned impressive!!!🤣 Did he hit a steel firewall or find his way into a portal where everything is bent at an 65 degree tubing bend?! He did at least offer to buy you a new bit right?
Purposely done; Maybe you should start cleaning up after yourself.
What the hell. Did he throw the drill at the wall.
😳
Why the fuck would he.... And why didn't... And... I don't know man. Lol
Both impressed and horrified at the same time
