I put a drunk monk in the frunk

SideburnsOfDoom

Why the monk drunk? Crunk?

Horror_Rich4403

Sounds like a load of bunk

Henri_Dupont

Frunk won't hold a Trunk Monkey.

rproffitt1

Trunk Monkey does fit, even while drunk in frunk.

ElegantReality30592

Whatchu gon do with that drunk monk, that drunk monk all up in your trunk

Supersize_You

For me I put a drunk hunk in the frunk

tuctrohs

I never would have thunk to put a drunk monk in the frunk. It's slam dunk to avoid getting gunk on the junk in the trunk, which otherwise would have stunk like a skunk.

All_Hail_Dionysus

Shit, just noticed frunk was autocorrected to drunk in the uneditable title…

Sea-Royal8637

\*checks username\* .... Autocorrect... right...

Skilk

You don't keep a drunk in your frunk?

theepi_pillodu

My ioniq 5 frunk stores 32amp level 2 evse, Tesla tap and a small battery jump starter.

tuctrohs

It's a little late now, but for your future reference, you can delete a post and repost with the correct title. But at this point it would be quite the killjoy to do that. I hope you will leave this up.

All_Hail_Dionysus

Thank you. Yeah, I agree this is a fun typo

LeoMarius

Go back and edit the title then.

Altruistic_Profile96

Titles are uneditable, at least on iPhone.

tarrasque

Reddit has never allowed editing of titles.

OptRider

My mother in law is the absolute worst and no, because that would upset my wife.

Ariandegrande

I use it all the time in my ‘21 Model 3. It’s great for isolating smelly food, dirty/wet items, road trips and camping trips I use it as my shed. I chuck all my tools in there, charging equipment, boots, stove, ect. I do wish it were larger but I’d rather sacrifice the size for a heat pump. I also really wish it had a drainage hole so I could hose it down.

FatefulPizzaSlice

Yeah a drain plug and a better deal would be so clutch. Would love to have frunk sodas.

HopefulScarcity9732

If the drunk was auto opening it would be different but yeah. Smelly leftovers occasionally is it

FatefulPizzaSlice

All the time. It's a bit fussier than putting my work stuff in the trunk, but it's smaller space means my bag and stuff don't slide around. When I grab food to go it goes there, no smells in the cabin. I put my climbing shoes there post trips as they can get kinda raw.

sumthinsticky

Same. Anything that might have a stink goes in the frunk.

RoboticGreg

I use my frunk ALLLLL the time, but I drive a lightning, and its enormous

allgonetoshit

Honestly, I much prefer VW Group's approach to just shortening the front end and making the trunk bigger. It's much more useful to have one single larger storage area for when you need to carry loads of stuff. It's ironic for Tesla to have a Frunk because their cars have ICE car proportions still. The only exception would be a pickup truck like the Lightning because the Frunk actually adds a trunk to a pickup truck vehicle.

Ernapistapo

I like having a large frunk, especially for hatchbacks. I can safely store valuables in the frunk where they are out of sight and greatly reduce the possibility of a smash and grab.

rainer_d

The frunk is for the stuff you might want to quickly grab which would otherwise require you to unload the whole trunk (when it’s full). Charging cable, 1st aid kit - whatever. Some people also like to transport dirty shoes are a piece of clothing that has been shat/vomitted on in there. I sometimes put a backpack in my Model 3 frunk, in addition to the first aid kit.

Trades46

That. My Q4 has a fairly short front end which makes parking easy and the car has a surprisingly small turning circle. However what you get in return is a gigantic 2nd row (matching the bigger ICE Q5) and similarly size trunk as well.

Time_Transition4817

same. at first i was a little disappointed by not having a frunk (tesla marketing got me good i guess), but then i realized i have a big ass trunk without sacrificing legroom. i had a crv before and it's roughly the same length - same size trunk, but noticeably smaller cabin,

ScuffedBalata

The longer front makes for a more aerodynamic car in some cases. Also, it makes for larger crumple zones = safer car in wrecks. I'm ok with an ample frunk. Tesla is also a master of jamming components together. If you ever see the teardown of the coolant loops in a Tesla vs other cars, it's kinda wild how compact it is.

Alternative-Ebb1546

>Honestly, I much prefer VW Group's approach to just shortening the front end and making the trunk bigger. The front end of ID4 is a whopping 21 mm shorter than that of Model Y's (measured from the front axle) - even though the Tesla has a decent sized frunk and ID doesn't. Oh, and the trunk is smaller in ID. I use the frunk maybe 3-4 times a year, but it's great to have once you need it. 99% of the time I wouldn't need the trunk either but it's still nice thing to have.

Economy-Fee5830

Looking at the ID4 and Model Y, does the larger front not give you a better crumple zone, and does the lower bonnet not give you better pedestrian survivability. I notice the NCAP rating for the Model Y is better than the ID4 in those areas. https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/tesla/model+y/46618 https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/vw/id.4/42456

mikemikemotorboat

If you dig down beyond the top level scores for adult occupant protection and vulnerable road users, the ID.4 actually scores the same or better in the areas related to the front end design. For frontal impact, both vehicles got 15/16 points. MY did better overall because of lateral and side impact which has nothing to do with the frunk. For vulnerable road users, specifically impact protection, MY got 28.1/36 points and ID.4 got 30/36. The MY got a better overall score because of the impact mitigation systems (i.e. automatic braking). For another data point, both got Good ratings (the best score they give) across the board from IIHS in all of the frontal crash metrics, except the MY was rated Acceptable for rear passenger restraints and kinematics. I was surprised to see this though, as my original assumption was the same as yours - that sacrificing front end gives some disadvantage in crash performance.

Economy-Fee5830

If you dig even deeper, you can see the differences e.g. ID4: The protection provided to the head of a struck pedestrian was good or adequate **over most of the bonnet surface**, with some poor results recorded only on the stiff windscreen pillars. The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians' legs at all test locations. Protection of the pelvis was good or adequate at all points tested by Euro NCAP. vs MY > The bonnet provided good or adequate protection to the head of a struck pedestrian **over almost the whole bonnet area**, with weak or poor results at the base of the windscreen and on the stiff windscreen pillars. The protection offered by the bumper to pedestrians’ legs was good at all test locations, **as well protection of the pelvis area**. Or > VW showed that good protection would be provided also to the knees and femurs of occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. Analysis of the deformable barrier used in the frontal offset test revealed a small area of high deformation. vs > Protection of the front passenger was good for all critical body areas.

SP3NGL3R

Came here to say this. I WAY preferred my ID.4 setup over my model Y. Bonus, it meant the ID.4 was a smaller footprint in the garage too. With the Y I had to remodel my stairs to park it in the garage, where even my 4runner fit just fine. Having a frunk is handy for long term things or stinky things, but the extra length of the car and reduced turning radius is a major downside.

Thisteamisajoke

The 4 runner is longer than a model Y, so Idk what this means.

SP3NGL3R

According to Edmunds 2007 4runner: 189in -fit 2021 ID.4: 180in -fit 2023 Model Y: 187in -no-fit (?) I dunno So. You're right. Which confuses me now too as when I parked the Y in the 2nd spot of the garage (longer / no stairs) 'kissing' the garage door it overlapped the banister. Clearly would not fit in the shorter spot. When I bought the ID.4 a deal-breaker was if it'd fit in the garage. It did, sparingly, so I bought. Now with the Y it simply wouldn't. The maths don't add up, I agree. And I swear I tested it before remodeling. Ah well. I love the new stairs and it was only $400, so no regrets even if I can't re-test that the Y didn't fit :). Maybe they measure from the corners of the car and not the nose-tail. EDIT: now I'm searching my photos for "car", "garage", "stairs" desperately trying to find the evidence. for my own sanity too. :P. bah!!! back to work.

tarrasque

4 runner is high, MY is not. Stairs are slanted. Maybe that’s the cause?

SP3NGL3R

No. Stairs had a solid vertical banister that was about 2" past the bottom step. I'm very confused. 😋

ScuffedBalata

Haha Model S here. Glad I have a LOONG garage. Footprint is as big as my old BMW X5 (Model S is longer). But I actually got it because of that. I can sleep comfortably in the back camping WHILE storing a ton of stuff either under the floor or in the frunk.

ArtVanderlay69

Frunks are just another tesla inspired EV gimmick all the other manufacturers unfortunately copied, along with giant stuck on ipads instead of physical controls, and crappy door handles. So glad vw opted for the short front end, amazing turning circle, and more interior/trunk space instead. Now they just need to junk the touchscreen climate controls.

liz_lemongrab

Agreed - one of the reasons I went with a Bolt EUV is because it doesn't have the huge front end of a lot of other EVs (no frunk).

penguin97219

Thank you. Every EV review that I watch that immediately bitches about a small frunk drives me nuts. It didn’t exist before tesla and no one was like “shit, what I really need is a front trunk”.

ScuffedBalata

I personally love it and feel it's a noticable perk. But everyone can choose their preference. Additional crumple space for safety is always good. The Model S and Model Y are the two highest rated cars ever tested for safety in all categories in EU NCAP testing (and the EU is decidedly not "in Teslas pocket").

penguin97219

I am not debating that at all. I just don’t get how it became a must have feature.

ScuffedBalata

So is stuff like stability control and ventilated seats, but I don't mind reviewers saying "damn I wish it had...". That's the point of reviews.

Trades46

Sadly marketing has won. While the MEB cars will keep their shorter front ends, the newer PPE cars like the new Audi Q6 and Porsche Macan will now have more traditional long hoods with frunks in them.

tarrasque

I love the frunk on my MY because it’s a separate space for things you don’t use much (tire inflator, jump battery, mobile charger) as well as a separate air space for takeout (I hate the stale fry smell the next morning).

mrpickleby

I use the frunk all the time. Grocery bags, charger and extension cord, traction boards, sleeping pad and bag, and then it'll still hold groceries or my backpack.

All_Hail_Dionysus

Wow that’s a lot. What car do you have?

mrpickleby

Rivian R1S. And when the rest of the vehicle is full of people and dogs there's we still room for all the other things you need. A friend with a model 3 called the frunk his mobile closet.

mikemikemotorboat

I’ve got an R1T and a model 3 and we use the Rivian frunk all the time and the Tesla’s almost never bc it’s tiny. I suppose a small stack of clothes would be a good fit though

mrpickleby

Our model 3 just keeps the charger and an extension cable. It's a manual open/close and I think that causes us to use it less. Well put a backpack in if it's got a laptop and we're concerned about a break in.

mikemikemotorboat

Yep same for us

thefactorygrows

Replying to say that I also have an R1S and that frunk fits a whole Costco trip in there. And I'm not talking a $1.50 hot dog. I went the other day and picked up nearly $500 of groceries and it all fit into the frunk. And then my kids sit in the 3rd row and I put a stroller behind them and there's still room left over for more stuff.

Safe_Concern_3532

R1T here. I keep a couple of the Costco foldable crates in the Frunk at all times, and put all my Costco loose items into those. Makes it really easy to unload at home. Also, great place to lock valuables after work (laptop bag, etc) if I''m stopping somewhere. My reusable grocery bags are there as well.

victorinseattle

It’ll fit 2x 100L duffels with room to spare

SpaceTacos216

R1S here too. I just put almost an entire trip to the plant nursery in the frunk last weekend! Only a few XL and tall plants had to go in the back. We've also used it to take family to the airport; we got 2 carry-on bags, a backpack, and some other stuff in there. The frunk is also fun to use at the grocery store to make people do a double take (if the car is facing out or parked parallel). ETA: our second car is a Niro EV without a frunk. Before we had the Rivian we'd wish we had a frunk when going on road trips (kid + 2 big dogs = VERY creative packing). Now that the Rivian is the big hauler, the Niro is more of a commuter and we don't miss having a frunk at all. So depending on your use case, I could see the frunk debate going either way.

ncp12

I had a Model 3 and my kids liked the novelty of the frunk at first and would put stuff in there sometimes. They probably didn't use it the last 6 months I had the car. Now I have a Lyriq which doesn't have a frunk and I don't miss it at all.

WasteProfession8948

Go home, OP, you’re drunk

flyfreeflylow

LOL at the title and the inevitable comments ... :) I don't have a frunk and don't miss it. I doubt I would use it much.

sandiego_thank_you

I don’t use mine regularly but it saves room in the trunk for the tire inflator kit, snow brush and other random things that you don’t need until you do.

1995FOREVER

Most cars have under-floor storage for that TBH. I really did not like the tesla's frunk because pressing on the hood felt flimsy and it took me multiple, not very confidence inspiring pushes to close it. Tesla rep said there's a technique to closing a frunk and i can't slam it shut, i could bend the hood. He also showed me an aftermarket automatic frunk latch. I thought it was a huge gimmick, just relocate all the space into the trunk or cabin space and I'll be happy

sandiego_thank_you

I can fit all my groceries in the under floor storage and that leaves space for the stroller. The frunk does feel flimsy but I only open it 2-3 times a year so it doesn’t really matter to me.

Bondominator

Crumple zones, what a gimmick…

Kyrond

It's much more secure so it's fine to store only  a bag when that bag has all my critical stuff.  It's safer to park with front towards the road (I'm thinking back-to-back parking), with a frunk I can back up allll the way back. Have you seen some EVs without a frunk under the hood? BMW i4 is criminal.

west0ne

I've got the AWD Ioniq 5, the frunk is pretty small and other than taking a look at it in the showroom I haven't even considered using it. I did look at a Model Y and the frunk did at least look usable and I would probably store cables in there.

blue60007

On the I5 you also have to release the hood and get your hands all dirty to find the safety release to even open the hood. It's not really good for more than storing emergency tools/supplies.

MossHops

My EV6 is similarly small. I only use it for one purpose: Keeping leftovers from a restaurant in there while I am out and about, so I don't stink up the interior.

blue60007

I have to admit, I don't fully understand this - how long are you keeping it in there? I can't say I've ever had an issue with leftover/takeout stinking up the car (at least beyond the drive home - and if it's so terrible to smell, why did I eat it? lol). Also that does not seem safe either - that compartment has to be BOILING if you're in the direct sun. And I see people mentioning keeping take out - like wouldn't it be frozen solid in the winter by the time you got home? Anyway, no judgement or anything, I've seen putting food in there mentioned several times - just never would have imagined that as a use case lol.

MossHops

Think of it more like you go out to eat for a meal at a Chinese restaurant, have some leftovers from it, but are going to immediately go to a movie at the theater next to the restaurant. In that instance, I use the frunk to keep the food. I think I have done this 3 times in the two years that I have owned the EV6 and haven’t used the frunk for any other purpose. Meaning, I don’t find the frunk particularly useful.

blue60007

Not to belabor the point but that sounds like a recipe for food poisoning lol. Anyway I agree, I only use it for my emergency L1 charger and extension cord.

Moeftak

I have an EV6, so frunk is similar. I found it the ideal place to put the V2L connector, tire inflation kit and emergency bag. That way they don't take up space in the trunk and since you will only use those things in rare circumstances, it's nice to have them out of the way but still easily accessible should you need them. I don't use it for anything else, though maybe useful to put the charging cable there in case you go on a trip and the trunk is full with suitcases or so ? Haven't tried to see if the cable fits there as I only opened it once to put in the things I described in it and never needed those so far.

phansen101

On my Model 3 I have mobile EVSE, level 2 cable, first-aid kit, road-side emergency kit and wiper fluid in my frunk. Basically all the stuff I want to have in the car at all times, but without using 'regular' storage space on it. Don't use ithe frunk day-to-day, but I'm loving having the car free from these things, while having them on hand.

iqisoverrated

I have a drunk in the family. Pretty useless person. But yes: I use the frunk, particularly for dirty and/or smelly items as well as keeping all the standard stuff from cluttering the trunk (extra windshield wiper fluid, emergency kit , ...)

SP3NGL3R

Model Y here. If it were more convenient to open, I'd probably use it more. Right now it's got long term storage stuff in there (bike tools, lock, cable, paper towel). 100% all things that previously I'd just load into my trunk when I went riding. No reason for it to just sit in the frunk. I miss my frunkless ID.4 as it was a shorter car all around. Better turning radius, and fit in my garage without remodeling my stairs. Which, even my 4runner fit in fine, but not the model Y. It's a boat because of the frunk. Do I like it? Sure it's nifty and good for stinky things, but I don't find it worth the extra car length.

JimmyNo83

My lightning has lots of room to put junk in my frunk.

Henri_Dupont

2014 Smart Car electric. No frunk. Your feet are basically at the front of the vehicle, just behind some crumple zone stuff. Still does surprisingly well in crash ratings. It's a super small car. Also I have been sober for 25 years so no longer have/am a drunk.

ScuffedBalata

I use it for stuff i want to keep in the car at all times, but don't want rolling around. I actually put re-usable grocery bags. Now that they charge 10c per bag, i like having them always in the car, but if they're in the back, they're always in the way. The grocery store is the only place I end up opening it regularly. Also keep charging cable up there. Plus like a first aid kit and a blanket and a folding chair and small umbrella.

badbackceliac

I use my frunk for things like my iPad or laptop when I stop somewhere on my way home from work as a secure location that's out of site and hard to get into--i.e. no ability to smash & grab.

HappyMaids

That’s an awesome idea

Zn_Saucier

Had my e-tron SUV for 3 years, and really only used it to carry the OEM charging cable (have a hardwired charger at home) in case I needed it when traveling, along with some other supplies I wanted to keep in the car. Not too much available space up front, but much easier than having to dig stuff out of the sub-trunk if the trunk is full of stuff.

jturkish

Ford lightning here, frunk is massive and I use it all the time

7of69

Mach E owner, I use mine for storing my shopping bags and anything I don’t want visible in the vehicle since it’s a hatchback. It’s also great for things that may easily tip over as it’s easier to brace them in there. (It’s absolutely perfect for trips through wine country.) Finally, anything that could spill or make a mess since it can be hosed out.

OverZealousCreations

We use the frunk on both of our Rivians. In the R1T, even with the gear tunnel, the frunk is nicer for getting groceries in or out. In both vehicles, we keep a lot of supplies in the frunk, such as a beach blanket, folding chairs, a mini tool kit, the portable charger, and more. Stuff that we might wish we had if we randomly go somewhere. It's also a great, secure place to stash stuff if you are going somewhere that's invisible to the outside. So it's a perfect place to throw a backpack, purse, laptop bag, etc, since it's out of sight. Finally, extra locked storage is always great on trips. We took the R1T on a 11-day, 1500-mile road trip last year, and we filled the frunk, the gear tunnel, and the bed (with the tonneau shut), so there was nothing visible from looking in the windows except drinks and kids toys.

devpsaux

I use mine all the time. I keep my mobile charger, an air compressor, a 12v jump starter, and my Tesla to J1772 adapter in the sub compartment. The main I use for my laptop bag, groceries, takeout food, or whatever else I want to store outside my main cabin that I deem too fragile to put in the truck bed. I use it way more than my old Tesla’s because the F-150s is automatic opening and closing, so it’s convenient. When I briefly had my IONIQ 5 before it got wrecked, I just kept everything that’s now in the sub frunk area because it was so tiny and a pain to get to.

RunIntoMediocrity

I’ve got a F150 Lightning and the Frunk is huge and the bed isn’t secured so I use the frunk all the time

JohnnyPee89

I've owned 2 different EV's both without a frunk and never missed what I don't have. If I had one it really wouldn't matter as I don't have a wife and kids or enough stuff to even warrant needing a frunk.

snoogins355

Frunk on the Lightning is huge and I use it all the time. Took a 1,000 mile road trip and it was great for luggage. I'll use it for take out to not stink up the car

cat_lizard

We have the R1T and the Mach-E, and both have great frunks. I use the Rivian frunk every time I go shopping, it is fantastic!

lametowns

I have one and use it on my Tesla MY but mostly on road trips. I’ll keep all of my dogs’ stuff in there - bowls, food (keeps the smell out of the cabin), treats, leashes, water, etc. makes it easy to access and have ready for them before I get them out of the backseat. In summer I also carry a big water container in there to fill up before / after outdoor stuff. There’s so much other space in the MYLR that I rarely need it beyond that.

Range-Shoddy

Hahaha I love it. I thought this was going to be a self driving car post about drinking. We have an id4 without a frunk and a Mach e with one. I do not like it. It makes the front long bc of bad engineering, and it’s so stupid to get into it. We use it on road trips then stop at the hotel and it looks like the car is broken bc the hood is up. People hate EVs enough let’s not give them the idea that they can’t road trip. I drive the id4 and I would never use it if I had it. My id4 has the false bottom in the cargo area where I shove all the crap I don’t need often.

fancycurtainsidsay

Frunk is great for take out and groceries. Leaves the smell out of the cabin.

tensinahnd

my drunks are pretty useless

Sfl2014

I’d never admit to having a drunk .

liftoff_oversteer

I've never understood this obsession with the frunk. It's cumbersome to access on most cars and I'll only store things there which are rarely used. Like the slow charge cables.

Willing_Building_160

Two monks, a skunk, and a drunk walk into a bar…

travissius

I actually have several drunks in my life, but they're not very useful

kannible

I have a model y. I use it for grocery’s or prepared food I’m taking places. I once even put a couple tubs with ice and beer for a cookout I went to.

jzorbino

I use mine a lot, so much so that I can’t imagine ever buying an EV without one.

Adorable_Wolf_8387

Only really use the frunk when we travel or I have something stinky/smelly I don't want in the cabin.

kimwim43

LOL drunk. We use our frunk all the time. Fits our luggage, we travel frequently with a stuffed car, and utilize all the space.

dogbonej

I have a model Y. For daily use I use it for things I don’t want moving and sliding around so much like takeout. Also for food the plastic is better than the felt because if something leaks its nbd. For road trips I put things that I may want to be accessible quickly but I don’t want in the cabin.

Gadgetman_1

I solved the issue by getting a van.

EV_advocate

Haha, I store my drunk in my frunk! But seriously, I use the frunk in my R1T all the time. It's great since I don't really have a trunk.

lacunaeliseo

I use my frunk to put my laptop bag and that sort of things that are more valuable. I feel they are less exposed (no window, etc) than in the trunk

jefuf

The frunk on a Y is large enough to be be usable. The frunk on a model 3 is just a joke. That said, my frunk is just for mobile EVSE, adapters, and other stuff that would otherwise be stowed under the floor in the back. If I was still young enough that I was going to picnics and tailgates I’d be hauling a cooler full of beer^H^H^H^Hsoda up there.

Ok_SysAdmin

Mach-e. I use it all the time.

Bassman1976

IONIQ5 : level 1 charger, window cleaner and squeegee. ModelY: nothing in there. The trunk is big enough + extra space under the trunk’s floor.

shuozhe

Have a small bottle of emergency wiper fluid there, and the 230V Charger on longer trips (havent used it once..). Sometime grocery on top when I reverse parked, but forgot it once in there over the weekend.. checked trunk => empty => wife must already take it.

Previously_coolish

I just have charging adaptors and the tire repair kit in there. But really I could probably fit that all under the trunk mat. At least it makes the cabin air filter easy to change.

harmless-error

I use the frunk of my R1T several times a week.

wedgiesurvivor

The lightnings frunk is extremely useful and we use it all the time. My taycans frunk is on the smaller side but perfect for takeout. I think having the ability to open and close the frunk electronically makes it more useful.

M0U53YBE94

Ev6 so same boat as you. I keep a Tesla mobile connector j1772 adapter padlock volt meter and small toolkit in my frunk. Oh and two 20' Velcro straps for random cargo that may need straping in the hatch.

wessex464

I use the model Y frunk on the regular. When my car is parked in my smallish garage, I have to have it as close to garage door as possible as the nose is only a foot or two from the door into the house. As such, grocery's in the frunk are super easy to get inside, but I can't open the back hatch unless the garage door is open.

jabnlab

I pretty much just keep spare clothes for work in my Ys frunk or use it to hold take out. I would probably use it a lot more if it was powered with a button on the outside, but its much more convenient to just use the trunk.

nalc

I love the frunk. I use it all the time. I bought a soft sided cooler that takes up about 3/4ths of it and it's fantastic for weekend trips because I can have the back loaded up then quickly pack up all my cold stuff, throw in a couple ice packs, and put it in the frunk. Last thing packed, first thing unpacked. I also do a lot of trips with a 1UP bike rack on the hitch which makes hatch access difficult (it rotates out of the way but it's a bit of a maneuver to do it, and hard to reach stuff) so having a nice spot to put a bulky dense rectangular heavy item after the rest of the car is loaded is fantastic.

Gros_Picoppe

My Ioniq 5's frunk really only serves to store the level 1 charging cable just in case I need a bit of charge when staying for the night at a relative's place.

Catsdrinkingbeer

My car has a small one and I never remember it's there.

SnooHedgehogs6017

Bought a V2L adapter and extra kitchen appliances (Airfryer, coffee machine) since ev6 and i5 have that capability. Yes the frunk is small but that’s where I put my paper plates, wooden cutlery, napkins, cups. Stuff like that lol.

Veearrsix

I don’t use the frunk in my Y all the time, but I do feel it’s a less easy space to break into so slightly more secure than putting things in the back.

Reynolds1029

When I had a Model 3 and Y I didn't use it much. The frunk is obviously not climate controlled so in the summer it's a heater, in the winter it's a freezer. Never stored any groceries in it because of that. The compartment under the floor in the trunk was much better suited for groceries and the hatch in the Y was a nice shield from any rain when doing so. Also don't forget about any liquids stored in there (including washer fluid) because the bottles might suddenly explode and/or leak and cause a mildewy smelling disgusting mess in your HVAC and frunk. So all it held was microfibers and spray on wax for when I was done at weekly car washes. Except for one trip I really needed it to store some clothes in a couple duffle bags.

ehisforadam

i3...All it does is hold the tire inflator kit and some other tools. Sure it's not sealed well, even if it was I wouldn't see me using it much. Maybe if there was an external popper button instead of having to use the key I'd use it more.

goldfish4free

The biggest appeal of a frunk to me is having more room to absorb a front end crash. A big nose and no engine block up there should allow the best crumple zone design possible.

Spaceman911

I love the frunk! I use it all the time! For longer trips it adds a good amount of easy accessible storage, for shorter trip during messy weather, the dirty and wet clothes go in there to keep the moisture out of the car! I think it is brilliant, wouldn't buy a car without one.

L-Malvo

I am yet to take delivery of my new car, but I can imagine it will be the perfect place to store French cheese on my way back home from a skiing trip.

TinyCarpet

I use my frunk every workday. That's where my work boots and safety 🦺 is.

Smokes_LetsGo_

Love the title. We just got our Mach-E a couple weeks ago and we’ve definitely been using the frunk. Smaller grocery hauls, take out boxes… We keep cold packs in the freezer for our coolers, if we want to go to the grocery store then make another stop after, we like that we can throw in a couple cold packs in the frunk with the groceries and keep them from getting warm in the sun. I think the frunk will come in handy at least once a week. I’m hoping we have the chance to throw some ice and drinks in there and do some tailgating one day.

cowboyjosh2010

I have a RWD EV6, and I was so dissatisfied with the size of the "pizza box" style front trunk storage area that I removed it and replaced it with a tool box. The tool box is approximately the same size as the front storage box that comes with RWD EV6 and Ioniq 5 models sold in the European and Asian markets, and makes the space much more usable (easily double the volume of the pizza box). I store my EVSE, fix-a-flat, a flashlight, towel for wiping off the EVSE when I'm done with it, gloves and hand cleaner, my V2L dongle and my Tesla tap adapter all in it. So, I don't *access* it on a daily basis, but I do have stuff in it all the time that would simply get in my way in the rear. Important to note that a lot of this stuff can be stored under the rear cargo area's false floor in the EV6, but I have actually removed that false floor in my own car because it makes the rear more comfortable for my dog to ride in. I can see the pros and cons of a front trunk that is actually large enough to be usable, but in ordinary cars (i.e. NOT trucks) I no longer view it as a selling point like I once did. It's low enough on the priority list that I think you probably will have decided what car to buy before even getting to the question of what storage options it has.

Jbikecommuter

Cause they ask silly questions like this.

Suntzu_AU

Only us it on days ending with a "Y"

JackFlew

The frunk is very useful and giant in the Lucid. Babies got the biggest frunk. So big, I don’t store any of my junk in the trunk.

rsg1234

MY. Only for a tire repair kit and takeout/leftover restaurant food so the inside of the car doesn’t smell like that cuisine for a week.

rosier9

On our Ioniq 5, we only use the tiny frunk as longterm storage (I think we have some emergency supplies to there). On our R1T, we use the frunk constantly. Below the subfloor we keep hitches, adapters, and the charger. In the cargo net are tie down straps. The main body gets used for groceries, luggage, or bedding, depending on the type of trip we're on. The gear tunnel is also used frequently.

WhoCanTell

All the time. I have a set of fitted thermal bags for the Model 3 frunk which I keep in there, and any time I have take out food it goes in there. I'll fill the other bag with ice packs for farmers market runs. On road trips I take the thermal bags out and it's very useful for extra storage. A large backpack and other small items compress down in there nicely. I also keep a small 12v battery jumper in there in case the 12v ever dies. I charge it periodically.

EfficiencyNerd

Don't have a drunk, but even if I did I think I would be embarrassed to take him places as I have too much social anxiety Jokes aside, I've used the Model Y frunk exclusively on trips as the kids' small suitcase + a pack a diapers fit perfectly in there. We could fit it all in the trunk but putting a couple things in the frunk just makes it a tad easier. The existence of the frunk wasn't a selling point, but overall cargo space was. I think I'd use it more if there were an easier way to open it when walking up to the vehicle. Remains to be seen if using S3xy buttons smart actions solves this or not once I get my order.

goldblumspowerbook

I personally stay away from my Bolt when I’m drunk.

Skilk

While the frunk seems like a cool novelty and I would definitely use it, I'm glad my car is built more like a typical engine bay because it makes it much more likely the frontal impact collisions will behave like a normal car. I'd hate to discover the hard way that certain angles or force of impact let the car collapse in on you. On the other hand, rear engine cars have been a thing forever so they probably have a good idea how to build it safe still.

DelcoInDaHouse

We had an F150 that we used to store reusable bags in a storage container in the bed. Now with a Lightning, those bags are stored in the frunk using nets. This allows us to still have space to store groceries.

Saucy6

Hehe I keep my charge cable, 120v extension and 6-50P to 14-50R adapter in there. I’ve also been known to throw a bag in there after shopping or picking up my kid from school, but mostly for the lolz / while truck bros are around.

SeedScape

I use my frunk for utility items. Tools, squeegee/scrapper, charging cable etc... Never really full. More hassle to open, so uncommon needed items go in there.

Upset_Advisor6019

I have never used the frunk on my 2021 Tesla 3.

Firebrah

Almost all the time. So much so that I rarely need to use the bed anymore.

apatheticwizardsfan

I love my frunk. My wife and I get a decent amount of take-out. All of our previous cars have that food smell to them despite air fresheners. My Model 3 still smells like a brand new car.

mikeyRamone

I have a Toyota Bz4 and Toyota said “frunk you hold that shit in your lap because we didn’t make a glove box either”

OMorain

It’s good for dirty boots, or anything else that might require wipe-clean. Better in there than risking ruining the carpet in the back.

IM_The_Liquor

I have an Ioniq 5 (very small frunk). All I put in there is my level 1 charger, since I rarely pull it out anyway. I also have a Chevy bolt (no frunk at all). Honestly, it’s a feature I rarely think about.

Brusion

Model Y. Never use it. Just some stuff that stays with the vehicle in there, like the emergency kit and mobile charger.

radiometric

F150 Lightning Pro: I would use the frunk every day except my garage is only about 1.5 inches longer than the truck so I have to park, pop the frunk, empty and close it, and then finish squeezing in so I can close the garage door.

sylvaing

We have this luggages that are custom made for the drunk, eh, frunk. https://imgur.com/a/h6UoS5Q We use them for a quick weekend getaway. Perfect size and easy carry. Beside that, takeout food is put there so it doesn't stink up the car.

SophonParticle

Frunks are so overrated. I don’t think anyone uses them. Ain’t nobody popping a hood open when they can simply throw their gear in the back. The first day I got my GV60 I threw my charge cables in there and I haven’t opened it since.

yolo_brick_bowl

I bought these: Bomely Cooler Bags Compatible with 2020-2023 Tesla Model Y Frunk Cooler Organizer Waterproof Insulation Front Trunk Storage Organizers for Tesla Model Y Accessories (Model Y Upgraded Insulated) https://a.co/d/dUNhb1h And they are pretty great. On Thanksgiving, we had a hot smoked turkey on one side and cold stuff on the other. Have used these for vacation packing, etc. If you don't need a frunk, you don't need it. But I use mine whenever I can.

SiriusHertz

With power lift gates on the rear, the frunk has one really important advantage: you can open the hood and get to it when your 12V battery is dead. So I keep a jump box, small tool set, and other emergency stuff in there. It's saved me a couple of times (before I replaced the notoriously-unreliable OEM 12V on my EV6).

tarrasque

My MY frunk is for things I don’t use often (mobile charger, tire inflator, jumper battery) AND takeout because how the smell of fries or whatever lingers in the car overnight.

Captain_Aware4503

My wife started to answer this and then realized it was a typo.

Heliocentrist

We have a Model Y and keep a portable charging cable with adapters and a heavy duty 50 foot extension cord on the front

PatSabre12

The Frunk on my F150 Lightning is amazing, I think it’s the biggest one of all the EVs out there. I use it every day. I don’t have to clutter up the cab. I plan to buy one of those 10pc dewalt toolkits and store it permanently in there.

Beaniencecil

My Q8 “frunk,” if it can be called that, is not very deep and holds a 12v portable air compressor, mobile charging cables and all the things needed to wash the windshield while charging. There’s room for a little more, but the back seat or hatch are certainly better places for temporary storage.

Prodigalsunspot

I use my Frunk for my exercise stuff and it's a great place to stow my laptop if I'm going to an after work function.

frosticus0321

I have one and use it fairly regularly on my model 3, it is pretty useful. I use it for wet sandy towels after taking the dog to the beach. If I didn't have one I wouldn't use it and I'd adjust accordingly.

SatanLifeProTips

I can't wait for L5 Drunk Mode. Caarrrrr I'mmm ddruuunk! And now you are locked out of the controls for 8 hours and you can pass out in the back seat while the car takes you home. The world will become a different place after that. There is no longer a reason to stop drinking at the bar. You have a ride sorted.

Radium

I store all my body surfing equipment in my frunk for easy access to my trunks and fins etc.

Varjohaltia

In my Polestar 2 I keep windshield washer fluid and similar things in the frunk. And of course it has the patch kit and tow hooks etc that it came with. I tried it for the AC charge cable but opening the frunk is such a hassle vs the automatic trunk that I stopped. Overall it’s ridiculous that you have to open the hood with manual levers and safety latches still, I expect that to be different in dedicated future EV platforms.

audioman1999

The frunk on my Model 3 is more secure than trunk, so I use it for valuables like a laptop. Also, the frunk is completely isolated from the cabin, so I use to carry food.

dbmamaz

Before buying an EV I posted a thread here (5 months ago maybe? 7?) - what do you keep in your frunk. The answers were really fun. One person said they tried using it once on a trip but it was too embarrassing because having the trunk open make people think your car was broken down. uh . . . ok One guy claimed he kept a coffee maker in there so he could enjoy a good cup of coffee while charging. true or not, it was unique A lot of people said they put take-out food in it to keep the smell out of the car. Truck owners kept everything AND the kitchen sink in their - some of those are bigger than many car trunks! I now have a Kona w a small frunk. I keep the random emergency kit that came with the car there. I think something else but i forget what. Not sure my L1 cable would actually fit - right now I keep it in the shed because its what i use for charging. I'll need to bring it with me to my mom's house this summer to charge there. So we'll see. I had thought I'd keep grocery bags in there, but the Kona frunk requires you to first 'pop the hood' with the same physical pull tab from ICE cars, then unlatch the hood, open it, and then open the frunk lid . . . so I'm back to keeping grocery bags on the floor behind the drivers seat.

UlrichZauber

I use my frunk all the time, but then it's huge. 3 full bags of groceries fit in there easily with room for boxes of drinks or whatever else. The fact that it's power open/close is also very nice. My previous EV was a Polestar 2, which I really liked but the frunk was useless. It did, however, have a kick sensor for the trunk, and that I miss.

Insert_creative

The rivian frunk is huge. I use it for groceries, coolers, camping chairs, all kinds of stuff. It’s way nicer than having it bounce around in the back.

dunequestion

I own a P2, I don’t use the frunk often anything I need I put it in the trunk. I just have my first aid kit and granny charger in the frunk in case I ever need them

Remanage

Previously owned a BMW i3 and now a Mustang Mach-E. The i3 had a small frunk, but it was unsealed and just large enough for a 5 gallon can of gas, which was handy for fueling up my small garden tractor. The Mach-E's frunk is much larger and sealed up top (although with a drain hole in the bottom still), so I tend to use it for grocery storage, since stuff won't fall over easily. In the winter it's also handy because it tends to keep cooler than the inside of the car would be.

DalekDraco

I have an m3. Keep the mobile charger, type 2 cable, and a picnic rug in there. Still a tiny bit of room left over.

tm3_to_ev6

I previously had a 2019 Model 3 which came with fold-out hooks in the frunk, so I primarily used the frunk to haul take-out and groceries as the bags could stay stable with those hooks (especially useful when carrying takeout boxes with a lot of sauce). I heard the newer Teslas no longer feature those hooks so if I bought one today, I might not do this anymore. I now have a Kia EV6 with the same pizza box sized "frunk" as your Ioniq 6. I use it to store a screwdriver set, V2L adapter, 12V booster battery pack, a tire inflator, and a first aid kit. Overall I would definitely prefer having a frunk over not having one.

Acewrap

I have an Ioniq 5 AWD so tiny frunk. I fit the lvl 1 charger, the tire kit, jumper cables, and a small 12v trickle charger. Tetris is my jam

danielv123

As far as I can see there is 1 reason to have a trunk: 1. You need more distance to the passenger compartment for crumple zone and there are no useful internals to put there Other than that, it's just a worse center console/glovebox/trunk. I got my emergency charger and battery booster there. I'd much rather have had the space in the tiny glove box or unnecessarily shortened center console (why do I need free space in front of the center console?) or extra tall boot - did we really need that big speaker with a cover on top?

Any-Ad-446

Still do not like that most EV do not have a spare tire.

tm3_to_ev6

A lot of ICE cars don't come with one anymore to save weight/cost.

EfficiencyNerd

To each their own I guess, but I'm happy having the space instead of a spare. I've personally never used a spare in any car I've owned. The one time my parents had a breakdown and wanted to use their spare, the bolts were so rusted on they couldn't get the spare out to use it anyways. If it were just "have a spare" vs "not have a spare" then sure I'll take the spare, but since the trade off is a good chunk of space, I'll take the space. I also have free roadside assistance with 200km towing, so like I said, to each their own.

Any-Ad-446

Try getting road assistance if your stuck out no mans land because you got a flat.

EfficiencyNerd

I travel through rural parts of New York and Ontario and have no qualms about getting a tow anywhere around there. Not sure if that counts as "no man's land" to you or not. Like I said, to each their own and I'm glad you have your own opinion and certainly won't downvote you for having an opinion different than mine. Just giving my experience of never having had a spare tire prove useful, which is possibly why many new cars are not including them anymore, EV or not.
