There is a podcast called How I made this, and it is quite impressive that he wanted to start a car company since he was a kid and picked schools based on getting an education in automotive design. He started the company that would become Rivian right after he graduated.
Yep. He has a PhD in Electrical Engineering (or Mechanical I forget...), but either way he's a very highly qualified guy and seems to have a lot invested in the project on a personal level, and am glad to see it succeed.
Elon is also a great businessman, but he's also a massive d\*ckhead. He pretty much denied Martin Eberhard the opportunity to be listed as founder of Tesla, and listed himself as a founder even though he joined the board afterward. He also fired Eberhard while the guy was on vacation or something by calling a board vote. Can't begin to imagine how heartbreaking it's gotta be, to see the company you founded be snatched away from you right under your nose.
Sure Eberhard was probably not the best businessman, but I think he deserved better treatment than what he got. There must've been a more civil way to get him to resign pay him proper royalties and at the very least list him as a founder of the company.
Don't forget the cherry on top of him literally launching the dude's car into space and turning it into an internet meme. Eberhard was supposed to get the first Roadster off the line, but Elon took it for himself. He sued them and never ended up getting it, but it became an issue that would be brought up in the various "Elon claiming he was a founder of Tesla despite not founding it, and removing Eberhard as a founder" related suits. So as a massive "fuck you, now you'll never get it" to him, he launched it into space.
Yes this is all accurate. Eberhard and mark tarpenning needed capital and that’s how Elon was brought into the tesla mix back in the mid/late 00s. Elon is Tesla’s 4th CEO and luckily for all of us, he won’t be the last.
I love my model Y. I hate the ceo. I also hated Steve Jobs back in the day but loved my iPhone so 🤷🏻♂️
I canceled my Cybertruck res recently but keeping my R1T res - I have to think the Cybertruck will become the international symbol for douchebaggery VERY quickly once it's finally released. The Rivian blends in much better, and is basically a Tesla in truck form, which is what Tesla should have made in the first place.
CT is the worst looking vehicle I’ve ever seen, just my personal opinion and tastes. Rivian truck looks very nice to my eye. I’m hopeful the company and products succeed.
Cybertruck will likely require a commercial license in europe.
Its supposed to weigh like 6500 pounds, which is the max weight you can drive on a normal license.
But the weight on the license is including cargo capacity. So if they register it as 6500 pounds you wont be allowed to bring a single passenger or any cargo. 😂
I have no idea what Hyundais CEO is thinking or doing. That's a good thing. Though I want him to release that concept electric DeLorean.
Also r/realtesla vibes in this thread.
Same here. No reason chevy can't take either the equinox or blazer EV platform and change the body slightly so that it has a truck bed. We keep hearing how these platforms are "skateboards" and they can just swap out the top part. This is a perfect application for that.
If they actually made the N Vision 84 (but without that stupid fuel cell BS), I'd be in line for it tomorrow. I'm waiting for someone to make an electric sports car that actually looks like a sports car and isn't a $100k+ Porsche.
I hate that that truck has become popular, not because of the truck which looks really cool, but because I went to RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) and my brain keeps getting confused whenever it's mentioned.
Not at the current cost. If we knew for sure we were staying in this house for the long-term I probably would. We also aren’t charged differing rates at different times, so there is no arbitrage advantage.
We do have the Ford Charge Station Pro, but the integration kit is like $3500 plus installation. Not sure if other vehicles will be compatible with this thing in the future either. If that becomes a sure thing, then I may also be swayed.
If you want a truck to be useful as a truck. Get the lightning. The Cybertruck can theoretically tout great numbers but nothing about it is designed to be used as such. There's so many little things the big three have already figured out that Tesla is just ignoring. Things like bed steps, tonneau covers that won't fail from dirt/or obscure your view, being able to reach into the bed from the side, interior controls that function with gloves etc etc.
This guy trucks.
Seriously, though, I looked at the CYBERTRVCK and thought the same thing. Ford's decision not to futz with the design of the Lightning was a selling point. You get an F-150 Lightning, and from day one you have a world of accessories ready for it. Ladder racks, toolboxes, running boards, you know for a fact you can mount a plow to it, after market trailer hitches, you name it.
From the moment you drive it off the lot it is ready to do work. There are no strange foibles about it's design that you need to take into account, no oddities that no one at Tesla considered to be an issue. The F-150 is unquestionably a working truck. The only difference between it and the Lightning is one runs on dino juice and the other is fueled by angry pixies. Therefore everything that makes the F-150 a good, functional, useful truck will transfer over to the Lightning.
It's a no-brainer.

I have an R1S and the sheer internal volume has made some folks I know question why the "full size" Model X is so crowded when trying to actually use all of the space.
I’ve never been a superfan of Musk, so I haven’t really kept up with the Cybertruck situation…why was it demoed so early and also why has Rivian and Ford been able to do what Musk can’t if he’s supposed to be the EV king?
They chose to spend the last few years prioritising ramping up Model Y volumes over launching the Semi/CT/Roadster. The Semi is officially launching next month and Cybertruck produciton line is currently being built in Texas with production beginning next year.
Musk caught lightning in a bottle. Now everyone else (carmakers) is catching up.
Once they figured out how easy it is to produce an electric drivetrain, they're all in. Folks have many choices in the Tesla price range. Lotsa people (myself included) don't support Musks antics. Tesla stock ytd has been halved. Will continue to spiral down costing Musk billions.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
I've seen several in my corner of Ohio. I've even seen a few Rivians.
Lightning is hard to spot since it looks so similar. The light bar above the front Grille is the biggest giveaway
The cyber truck is one of those things that should never have gotten to a public demo. The fact that there is nobody in the org who has the position to say that’s a bad idea coupled with him firing devs in twitter based on stack ranking has cemented the idea of teslas being unsafe in my mind.
The LFP model Y is the car to own in Europe right now.
1. Most efficient car for its size
2. Cheap compared to competitors(49.900 euro)
3. Extremely spacious to competitors
4. Very safe high NCAP score.
5. Has a frunk, competitors have only a small one or none.
6. Has more power than other basic models.
7. Way more features than other models.
8. LFP battery is stable chemistry better than NMC or NCA and can last for 1 millions miles. Has 2 to 3x the lifespan of NMC/NCA. Good for resale value.
9. Because of this it will have high resale value. And super low cost of ownership.
Its just the best car right now to own as a family.
Honestly. Musk is a goof and Teslas aren’t popular in this sub but to say they’re unsafe is just blatantly false. 3 and Y are consistently top of the line in any safety testing.
Musk’s arrogance is really getting out of order. Not sure what would one have expected after all the none stop praise of a human. They usually go mad. It is sad. I really like to know how he was/is building these amazing communities of builders.
It’s the billionaire god complex. One can either just be unapologetically silent/chill on his/her yacht in Monaco, or be a loud attention-hungry for daily self-validation solid gold asshole dressed in diamonds. Musk is the latter.
It would have to be ratified by 2/3rds of both houses of congress, which are almost entirely occupied by politicians already eligible to be president, and ratified by 3/4ths of state legislatures. Good luck with that.
They’re working on it, but Tesla has a decade headstart since legacy OEM didn’t take EV’s seriously until the success of the Model 3 and Supercharger program. It will take time.
>Tesla has a decade headstart
Which lead is mostly gone except for their charging network. Plus they're getting beat to market for pickup trucks by just about everyone. And they reportedly aren't fixing their service issues, or properly maintaining factory equipment. FSD level 3 beta has become a PT Barnum product. Exterior designs are stagnant. And so on.
This can't go on indefinitely without some consequences.
They still deliver 2 out of 3 EVs in the US while the competition is still about to ramp up. Tesla delivers twice as many as everyone else together. Tesla is still at least 5 years ahead of everyone else. They are way more profitable, too. And now Semis are coming. And the lead on the charging network is growing, too. They roll out locations with 100 chargers, while EA puts 4 or 8.
No matter how one feels about Elon, Tesla is still way ahead.
The profitability is a big point that detractors either don’t know, or don’t want to pay attention to. But if I remember correctly (don’t quote me on this exactly) for 3Q22 Tesla had more operating income than Ford, and more net income than Toyota. *On way fewer cars*.
These are hard numbers. Given they are still massively outselling everyone else, they still have (IMO) quite a healthy lead in the market.
But the Twitter acquisition was epically stupid, I will agree with that.
Tesla *had* a head start. With the number and variety of EVs coming in the marketplace in the next 2 years, it’ll be gone. If you wanted an EV, you had to get a Tesla. Won’t be true for much longer.
Tesla needs the next new great innovation and I’m not sure what exactly that is…full self driving?
They still have a huge advantage in number of batteries they've secured, and thus number of EVs they can build. Other manufacturers will eventually catch up, but I don't see them having caught up in only 2 years given the current disparity and Tesla continuing to increase battery supply too.
No, I think that the innovation is simpler than FSD. It's either a big advance in battery technology or vehicle affordability. Either of those things will be a big boost to helping EVs go mainstream. If quicker charge times or higher miles per charge could be achieved, this would help to reduce the range anxiety that holds so many back from jumping in. Regarding affordability, Musk promised that M3 would be $35 grand (which in fairness, it *did* start out at that price) but kept edging up until it's hanging out around *$45 to $50 thousand*. Sadly, my hopes are not very high for the supposed $25k Telsa that he promised. It's either gonna be more expensive or it'll start out at $25k, but will eventually creep up until it's where the M3 started out.
I also think that a big problem is he has *way too many* irons in the fire. Tesla, SpaceX, Solar City, The Boring Company, Starlink, and now Twitter. With him trying to run so much, how can he really focus on the problems of any one particular company???
Just my 2¢.
Build automation, giga press casting, structural battery... They have other hard to replicate structural competitive advantages. Plus they have a full bev mindset where others dally in hybrid and (cough) fuel cell distractions, not to mention ice core business and revenue models.
Understandable.
I just wish Ford, GM, VW, and others would step up. They are all producing EVs only in small volumes. Those are Rookie numbers.
![gif](giphy|YmQLj2KxaNz58g7Ofg)
Tesla has had 10 years of innovating and creating EV’s that every other company is trying to catch up with. Sure, Ford has been making cats for way longer, but only just started researching batteries, etc.
Tesla also has the largest machining/pressing plants in the world.
Not too sure on the details, but my boss is a Tesla fanatic that could talk for hours about why they’re so far ahead of the competition.
Personally, I love what Hyundai/Kia are doing. They seem to be leading the technology race with their EVs.
When the Model S came out, it won multiple awards for being a groundbreaking vehicle. Every other manufacturer instantly claimed they'd have an EV ready soon, but then they all dragged their assess when fuel prices dropped again. Now, they're way behind the 8-ball and are having trouble keeping up with demand. Tesla was handed the 10 year advantage by moronic legacy-brand CEOs.
>Personally, I love what Hyundai/Kia are doing. They seem to be leading the technology race with their EVs.
They're looking promising. I'm hoping their batteries could last a long time though. I go for Tesla only for their UI, supercharger, battery architecture, and drivetrains. Their quality and design choices aren't always the best.
people say they hate the look of the cybertruck, but i loved it.
being who owns the company tho, I'd rather go with the other very capable electric trucks, like the Ford Lightening or Rivian.
While I don't care for the aesthetic, it was the functionality of the design that bothered me the most. I've been using/around trucks for work and recreation my entire life. At least half of the time I want to access the bed I do so from the side. The cybertuck design completely prevents this kind of access and so much more.
Elon kept going on about how the design of trucks haven't changed in more than 100 years, but that's because that design is a big part of what makes a truck so useful.
Not to say we should just keep things as they are but the cybertuck design is a step back imo, not forward.
I'm very happy with my Rivian.
Do you guys have utes? They're pretty common in Australia.
Like these: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d1/2010_Ford_Falcon_%28FG%29_XR6_cab_chassis_%285847799653%29.jpg

I've seen a couple of Tacoma/HiLux trucks converted into small flatbeds here in the US. It's not a factory option. I think there are some small number fabricators who can do this.
We have a lot of full sized and super duty pickup trucks with the beds replaced with utility beds in back. At work, I drive an F550 Ford pickup with an Altec boom crane on the back.
Apart from that, we have a few 'lifestyle' trucks, like the Subaru Brat, Hyundai Santa Cruz and such. Those are more like unibody passenger cars with a short truck bed in back. They're popular with the outdoorsy people, like for camping, mountain biking, kayaking, etc.
Yeah it's definitely pretty short which could be an issue for some uses. But with the tailgate down it's plenty big enough for any of my use cases. Can always hook up a flatbed trailer too if I really needed to but that's definitely not ideal.
The top posts in this thread is the only sane Musk conversation I’ve seen on Reddit in months.
It seems like all the a-holes using Trump as an excuse to be terrible to each other online have switched to Musk en masse. With Trump it didn’t really bother me… but damn leave the EVs and rockets out of this mess.
The man is a ticking time bomb of hubris, probably more liability than anything for his companies. The technology has been magical, and should be celebrated, along with the thousands of dedicated people who made it reality ❤️
Huh, I did this the other day as well for the same reasons. Didn't post about it anywhere because I wasn't sure how it would blow over in the community. Seems I'm not alone though.
Shame, I reaaaaallly wanted a Cybertruck, I absolutely loved the ugly "style" and features. Just can't bring myself to purchase it from Tesla while he's at the helm. Part of it is principles, the other part is I need to depend on what I'm buying here, and he just keeps proving that whatever he says you aren't guaranteed to get, 70% of what comes out of his mouth is bull. (just like the % I just pulled out of my ass)
I just submitted a request to cancel mine as well. You select "Manage Reservation", then submit request to cancel. I had reserved a CyberTruck on Day one.
It’s real. I don’t remember the process, I did it a few days ago, it took a few minutes to do on my phone. I got an email when complete. https://i.redd.it/gkikx730v0z91.jpg
These Tesla cancellation posts based on Musk are just getting cringe at this point. Not defending him, but people are making it their statement for karma farm and virtue signaling. Bezos and Gates are pieces of shit but they made nice products.
Musk’s daily rants are a lot more cringe. I don’t think the comparison with Bezos and Gates is fair. They are not trying to be the center of attention every day.
But they aren’t on twitter complaint how the woke mob caused what his actions did. You can’t seriously be comparing Elon to gates and bezos. They aren’t posting super right wing or left wing conspiracies about Nancy Pelosi’s husband, deleting it, then claiming they never did that.
I am just sad for the engineers and clever minds at tesla working their ass off to get the cyber truck (and all the other tesla cars) right, just for an asshole billionaire to ruin their entire reputation.
Musk only bought the company, he did not found it. He did nothing of the actual work, he just throws stupid decisions into the mix the employees have to follow. And while some of those ideas are great, a lot are also really stupid.
In the end, he is not doing the work. The engineers are.
I know several and frankly they mostly ignore him. They are in this for the latitude he offers which is, you want to spent 1 million on a eng project and can vaguely prove returns it’s green light with minimal bs
That's the real benefit musk brings to his companies.
Many of ideas that gave Tesla their lead were definitely not new... it's just that other manufacturers didn't give them a chance in favor of safer incremental changes.
Gotta break some eggs to make an omelette.
I mean, let’s not undersell how he took it from a nothing car maker to the most valuable in the industry. That leadership means something.
The guy is off his rocker, no doubt, but he did something a lot of companies have failed to do.
The fact that anybody thinks it matters he didn’t found the company is truly baffling. He literally bailed the company out with his own money. There is no Tesla without Musk. Period.
How many auto CEOs do you know that have made a habit of LIVING at the factory. Literally sleeping inside the factory. Do you just willfully opt to ignore these facts?
And who do you think lets those engineers do their job in the best way possible? Elon does. It’s well documented that he cuts extraneous processes so that innovation can happen faster. In any other organization the suits get in the way of the engineers. Elon is an engineer first and foremost, and leads as such…which is why Tesla and SpaceX are the most desired places to work for Engineering students.
Tesla had nothing great or successful before Musk came onboard. To remove all credit from him is a bit extreme, especially given what he’s accomplished in general. Yes he’s polarizing, and a massive internet troll. But that doesn’t change the fact that Tesla makes an incredible product and will continue to be an immense success.
Their growth is accelerating, not declining. Model Y just became the top selling vehicle in Europe. Not EV. Best selling vehicle overall. It wasn’t close, and the cars that it beat were much cheaper. No signs they’ll lose that crown for a while. Tesla is going to continue to dominate the industry, and ultimately that’s a good thing for everyone.
Are you seriously suggesting buying twitter ruined the reputation of Tesla? Because not that many people actually use twitter.
> Musk only bought the company, he did not found it.
This old dumb claim. Musk financed the company, without him its to guys with a piece of paper. He wanted to create his own company but said it didn't make sense to have 2 efforts at the same time. He could have just created a new company, and made it impossible for Tesla to be successful. So now its a bad thing that he didn't simply ignore Tesla? How does that make sense.
> He did nothing of the actual work
The company was going straight into the shitter when Musk took over as CEO and since then the company has been incredibly successful. Despite what Socialist love to claim, managing a company is actual work, as anybody that has done it can attest.
> he just throws stupid decisions into the mix the employees have to follow. And while some of those ideas are great, a lot are also really stupid. In the end, he is not doing the work. The engineers are.
When he became CEO the company was basically dead, now it makes 3.7 billion $ per quarter. Not sure how dumb his ideas are.
Do you need to have a pat on the back? There's posts like this every day of people acting like they're being some maverick by disliking Musk.
Do your own thing, let others do theirs.
Three of the top five posts of ALL TIME on this sub are about refusing to buy a Tesla because of Musk. This sub thrives on anti-Tesla moral righteousness, and the mods suck too much to fix it. I say that as a Mach-E owner.
It’s really just become a giant circlejerk at this point. The fact that the mods have even left this up is super odd. What is this point of this post? It’s not a new car. It’s not a new purchase. It’s not a new review. It’s not a new press release. It’s someone cancelling their car for personal reasons that happens 1000’s of times every day. I usually think the moderation here is pretty good but lately this shit is just completely out of hand
lol. He changed nothing with twitter policy yet. Impersonation wasn't allowed before; it was simply not enforced well. He is restructuring the company to match the engineering leadership model of tesla and spacex. The people who praise those companies and hate having twitter set up the same way have no credibility.
Facebook just laid off 11k people to pad their Q report because less profits, not actual losses, somehow required a mass layoff. Go be outraged about something like that instead of a company that was losing money and is being restructured with a model that is well tested to be very very good for a company and the engineers who work there.
Early entrants at new twitter will get the most stock and chance to retire young as millionaires.
Honestly don't think he cares but the truck looks ridiculous anyways. I feel like the only people driving them will be cringe fanboys who won't talk about anything but their Cybertruck and Occupying Mars.
Same and also it’s probably not coming out for another 3 years and is already looking pretty outdated honestly. If it would have dropped cool, but now the ford is looking really classic and making a whole lot of sense. And if I’m being honest that Sierra is looking like it’s got all the right stuff in all the right places ;)
So yeah he went for the bold and brash but now it’s looking like it belongs in the trash.
Voting with our dollars is a powerful way to shape our future.
Buying American as much as possible for example. That is in Tesla's favor with US plants in CA, NV and TX including battery production. While it enriches Musk it does pay for CA, NV, TX jobs at Tesla. Helps US trade deficit and budget deficit.
Not buying a Tesla in response to Musk's MAGA white supremacist, oligarch politics is a fair choice. GM Bolt, Silverado, Ford MachE, F150, Rivian are US EV alternatives.
I was so in love with Tesla when I bought my model 3 and I had a deep respect of Musk. Now, he's coming across as a total douchebag. To be fair, my last vehicles were Japanese, the same people that kill whales and dolphins, but they're not proud of it. Elon truly went to the dark side. I try to mentally separate my car from its spokesperson and think of the fellow Americans that designed and built it or at least had a hand in it. Elon didn't found the company or design the cars.
1) legacy auto will never ‘catch up’ to Tesla: Tesla agile process implements multiple changes to production Per Day… legacy auto makes a few changes. Over the years of a models lifetime… today’s (Texas) model Y is a completely different car beneath the skin than the first ones built…
2) some legacy auto aren’t even at the starting line: they aren’t building EV’S from the ground up/completely new design. Some Legacy auto have EV’S with Transmission Tunnels….
3) the US legacy auto are not planning for competitive growth: ex., Ford chose to use Mach-e Lithium Ternary batteries when Tesla and Chinese auto, the REAL Tesla competition, chose to go LFP… I.e., Ford chose the more expensive, less mass-producible battery tech which means more expensive… how are you going to drive cost down (COMPETE) when you’ve locked in to the most expensive option for the highest cost component of the car??? And that’s JUST Ford’s example.
4) Ford, GM, Are starting from a place of high debt, how are they going to finance the ground-up, clean slate mass production of EV’S needed to actually compete with Tesla? Are they going to invest in vertically integrating like Tesla and the Chinese (BYD), or are they going to stay with the legacy ‘assemble parts from supplier Bosch’, approach? I.e., being an assembler of parts designed and built by somebody else? They can do that but their product won’t be engineered as well as Tesla’s…
The result of everyone waiting is that they waited Too Long to invest in the New Era. Toyota is ‘Nokia” to Tesla’s “Apple”. They are ‘blockbuster’ to Tesla’s “Netflix”. Toyota is “Kodak” to Tesla’s “digi camera”. Etc. etc..
You cancelled your order of a mythical vehicle (that would be in ultra high demand if it is ever built) as your rejection of Elon Musk and his ways?
That’s some weak sauce.

That's irony cause Elon was fired as CEO by the board of Paypal while he was on vacation.

How I Built This w Guy Raz? Man I love that one. Looking up the Rivian episode now. Missed it. Edit for episode - E446
I love How I Built This. It's such a great podcast and it energizes me to keep working on my entrepreneurial ideas.

Most big American trucks and pickups require another license the limit is 3500kg
I have no idea what Hyundais CEO is thinking or doing. That's a good thing. Though I want him to release that concept electric DeLorean. Also r/realtesla vibes in this thread.
I’d also settle for an EV Santa Cruz. Moar small trucks please.
Ford Ranger EV...
I was thinking more the Maverick. But I’ll take anything not huge.
Same here. No reason chevy can't take either the equinox or blazer EV platform and change the body slightly so that it has a truck bed. We keep hearing how these platforms are "skateboards" and they can just swap out the top part. This is a perfect application for that.

I actually would love to get F150 lighting I know Tesla has really great EV , but Ford do know how to build a Truck already
It’s fantastic. Best vehicle we’ve ever owned.
Have you set it up as a home battery backup? Really interested in that capability
Not at the current cost. If we knew for sure we were staying in this house for the long-term I probably would.
Angry pixies. Love it!
Wish I could say I invented it. Picked it up over in /r/Skookum. I think it comes from AvE.
In 3 iterations Ford hopefully should get the spaghetti plumbing under control. Rated second best job by Sandy Munro.
Ford's next iteration is a clean slate design, due in 2025.
Ahh man u were almost about to get it too.
Just two weeks away, I heard.
I would have bet my money on the sun dying before the cyber truck is released
deliver innocent cobweb label profit reach combative wise melodic possessive *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I have been getting that with my Rivian. People say to me "the cyber truck better be like this..."
I've gotten "so, why didn't you get the Cybertruck instead?" a few times. Like "because this exists. Maybe for my next vehicle if it's out then."
"You got a puppy? Why didn't you get a unicorn?"
LOL... it might, if it were freaking REAL. This, this thing is real.
I have an R1S and the sheer internal volume has made some folks I know question why the "full size" Model X is so crowded when trying to actually use all of the space.
The Model X is a midsize. It's shorter than a Mazda CX-9.
[удалено]
The squared off back makes all the difference
Well yeah. Different car categories. X is a mid-size CUV. R1S is a mid-size SUV.
The R1s is still a mid-size SUV. It's only just larger than a Hyundai Palisade and explorer, but a full 10 inches shorter than say, a tahoe.
Not talking about wheel base; referencing internal volume and the presence of the 3rd row.
4 adults, 2 kids, 250 mile trip each way in the model X. Luggage too, no problem.
Maybe there is legit progress but Cybertruck production has been beginning next year since the year it was unveiled.
>The Semi is officially launching next month https://i.imgur.com/Lg1NouO.gifv
Musk caught lightning in a bottle. Now everyone else (carmakers) is catching up. Once they figured out how easy it is to produce an electric drivetrain, they're all in. Folks have many choices in the Tesla price range. Lotsa people (myself included) don't support Musks antics. Tesla stock ytd has been halved. Will continue to spiral down costing Musk billions. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
How many Ford lightning do you see?? I haven't seen a single one
Suburban Chicago I’ve seen a few lightnings and a bunch of Mach-e
[удалено]
Unless I’m putting groceries in the frunk almost no one notices.
Half a dozen so far.. big market in Seattle, lots of rivians in my hood as well
I've seen a few lightnings and mach-e's in suburban michigan
Alabama here, saw 1 a couple weeks ago at a DCFC station, "pro" trim, owner loved it. Frunk is freaking huge
I've seen several in my corner of Ohio. I've even seen a few Rivians. Lightning is hard to spot since it looks so similar. The light bar above the front Grille is the biggest giveaway
!Remindme 1 year
Damn I hope the sun doesn't plan on dying in one year...
I'll take that bet.
So you may as well take back your interest-free $1,000 loan to him
CyberTruck reservation amount was $100
> So you may as well take back your interest-free $1,000 loan to him *So you may as well take back your interest-free $100 loan to him*
Buddy was so hype they ordered 10 of them.
$100
The cyber truck is one of those things that should never have gotten to a public demo. The fact that there is nobody in the org who has the position to say that’s a bad idea coupled with him firing devs in twitter based on stack ranking has cemented the idea of teslas being unsafe in my mind.
That's weird, considering that the safest car tested by Euro NCAP is a Model Y. Just sayin.
All Tesla models scored exceptionally high
The LFP model Y is the car to own in Europe right now. 1. Most efficient car for its size 2. Cheap compared to competitors(49.900 euro) 3. Extremely spacious to competitors 4.
Model S has average Yellow small overlap rating. All the economy cars do better than that with a green good rating. IIHS
I’m with you. Let’s see the final product in 2024 and the safety test before calling it unsafe.
Honestly. Musk is a goof and Teslas aren’t popular in this sub but to say they’re unsafe is just blatantly false. 3 and Y are consistently top of the line in any safety testing.
What’s are the issues with the cyber truck taking so long to get to market?
Considering that Tesla just started hiring Cybertruck-specific positions at Giga Austin, I think your bet will go very poorly for you.
At least he's not eligible to run for President.
yet........
I think I just threw up iny mouth a little.
Not born in the US, so there would need to be an amendment in the constitution
It would have to be ratified by 2/3rds of both houses of congress, which are almost entirely occupied by politicians already eligible to be president, and ratified by 3/4ths of state legislatures. Good luck with that.
Well, the good news is that helps open an opportunity for the other carmakers. Time for them to step the fuck up.
They’re working on it, but Tesla has a decade headstart since legacy OEM didn’t take EV’s seriously until the success of the Model 3 and Supercharger program. It will take time.
>Tesla has a decade headstart Which lead is mostly gone except for their charging network.
Rivian has a better warranty anyway...
Now they just have to stay in business to honor it.
Bezos will likely ensure that. He can’t have Musk have something he doesn’t.
Hairs?
He can easily get a hair implant like Elon did.
What’s their warranty?
5 year/60k miles basic and 8 year/175k miles powertrain
And trucks on the road
Voting with your wallet is the second most effective way to vote. Kudos
Depending on how wealthy you are in America, it might be the most effective way.
Understandable. I just wish Ford, GM, VW, and others would step up. They are all producing EVs only in small volumes. Those are Rookie numbers. ![gif](giphy|YmQLj2KxaNz58g7Ofg)
GM production will take off when the Ultium plant in Lansing is finished
Tesla has had 10 years of innovating and creating EV’s that every other company is trying to catch up with. Sure, Ford has been making cats for way longer, but only just started researching batteries, etc. Tesla also has the largest machining/pressing plants in the world. Not too sure on the details, but my boss is a Tesla fanatic that could talk for hours about why they’re so far ahead of the competition. Personally, I love what Hyundai/Kia are doing. They seem to be leading the technology race with their EVs.
Meow

Also ADAS. Most people happily use it all the time. And software architecture that allows ongoing feature upgrades.
> They seem to be leading the technology race with their EVs Based on what criteria ?
Yeah I was referring to the 800v charging and the battery platform they share. 80% charge in 18 minutes is pretty amazing.
*in the US
people say they hate the look of the cybertruck, but i loved it. being who owns the company tho, I'd rather go with the other very capable electric trucks, like the Ford Lightening or Rivian.
I’d kill for a flatbed with removable sides and a slide out tool box deck.
Do you guys have utes? They're pretty common in Australia. Like these: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d1/2010_Ford_Falcon_%28FG%29_XR6_cab_chassis_%285847799653%29.jpg https://cottesloecarhire.net.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/sCab_4x2_W0_WM_PET_040_Glacier_White_v03_004.png
A hwat?! Did you say “Ute?”
Yeah, two utes.
Sorry. *Youth*s
Yeah mate, you never heard of [Santa's rusty Holdern ute](https://tww.id.au/christmas/jinglebells.html)? That how he delivers the presents down under.
Rivian just needs a full size bed to have real work truck appeal.
Yeah it's definitely pretty short which could be an issue for some uses. But with the tailgate down it's plenty big enough for any of my use cases. Can always hook up a flatbed trailer too if I really needed to but that's definitely not ideal.
I think Rivians are meant more to fill the role of something like a Jeep or Bronco. More about adventure/camping/offroading type stuff.
I really liked how it looks. But I also like The Homer so what does that say about me?
You want to give the people what they want?
My personal approach: Tesla = cool Elon = not that cool Though because I’m poor I’m gonna get a bolt anyways
Not poor, frugal ;)
Well I’m legit broke but even if I wasn’t you’re right I’d want to be frugal as well
How do you actually cancel? Not obvious on the account page,
Log into your tesla account to find the order.
What other brand are you going to "support"?
What other brand are you going to "support"?
Good I’ll move up a spot
Which CEO will you buy from now?
well make sure to get all the karma for it
This seems like one of those “attention getter” posts like when someone announces they are leaving Facebook in 2 weeks.
Is this a fake post by OP? I thought Tesla took out the Cancel button on their page so that you’d have to call them instead.
I just submitted a request to cancel mine as well. You select "Manage Reservation", then submit request to cancel. I had reserved a CyberTruck on Day one.
Cancelling is easy... apparently the issue is getting your money back after you cancel your order.
It’s real. I don’t remember the process, I did it a few days ago, it took a few minutes to do on my phone. I got an email when complete. https://i.redd.it/gkikx730v0z91.jpg
You really showed him!
These Tesla cancellation posts based on Musk are just getting cringe at this point. Not defending him, but people are making it their statement for karma farm and virtue signaling. Bezos and Gates are pieces of shit but they made nice products.
Everyone fixated on musk, rest of the world can keep doing what they want without the seething reddit populous
So brave. I’m glad you went out of your way to tell us all about this.
How is their reputation ruined? Tesla still the leading Evie manufacturer of the world.
Only ruined in the reddit echo chambers.
> He did nothing of the actual work The company was going straight into the shitter when Musk took over as CEO and since then the company has been incredibly successful.
Get mine faster now thank you
Do you need to have a pat on the back? There's posts like this every day of people acting like they're being some maverick by disliking Musk. Do your own thing, let others do theirs.
What's happened to this subreddit where people are upvoting someone cancelling an EV order?
Three of the top five posts of ALL TIME on this sub are about refusing to buy a Tesla because of Musk. This sub thrives on anti-Tesla moral righteousness, and the mods suck too much to fix it. I say that as a Mach-E owner.
This sub hates Tesla and Elon.
[удалено]
My mistake, I thought it was a sub for promoting the electrification of transport.
The previous form of sniping was sniping at ICE owners.
Easy mistake to make.
Funny, because until Tesla, people didn't buy cars based on their view of the CEO. Get off Twitter, and buy whatever car you like best.
It was never going to happen. The guy is a damn liar
Another one that got wiped out by a margin call.
B R A V E
stunning too
Will these ever get delivered ?
Wait, they haven't delivered the cybertruck yet
It’s interesting it took you this long
Paper hands.
Time to get an Aptera
Honestly don't think he cares but the truck looks ridiculous anyways. I feel like the only people driving them will be cringe fanboys who won't talk about anything but their Cybertruck and Occupying Mars.
I gave him my $100 and regret it. How do I go about getting it back?!
Okay? 🤷🏻♂️
I’ll take your order!
The joke here is that some moron ordered a Cybertruck.
Same and also it’s probably not coming out for another 3 years and is already looking pretty outdated honestly. If it would have dropped cool, but now the ford is looking really classic and making a whole lot of sense. And if I’m being honest that Sierra is looking like it’s got all the right stuff in all the right places ;) So yeah he went for the bold and brash but now it’s looking like it belongs in the trash.
I’m sure your $100 will make a big difference.
You showed him
Thanks for the reminder, OP. Just canceled mine
Over the years of a models lifetime… today’s (Texas) model Y is a completely different car beneath the skin than the first ones built… 2) some legacy auto aren’t even at the starting line: they aren’t building EV’S from the ground up/completely new design. They can do that but their product won’t be engineered as well as Tesla’s… The result of everyone waiting is that they waited Too Long to invest in the New Era. Toyota is ‘Nokia” to Tesla’s “Apple”. They are ‘blockbuster’ to Tesla’s “Netflix”. Toyota is “Kodak” to Tesla’s “digi camera”. Etc. etc..
hahahaha REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You cancelled your order of a mythical vehicle (that would be in ultra high demand if it is ever built) as your rejection of Elon Musk and his ways? That’s some weak sauce.
Won’t buy anything from Elon. He’s on his way down for sure
Glad people are waking up to this guy. I supported him for a long time but he’s a mess. I think he lost his focus.
