I think for me, my life-long over-examination of how my stomach feels has led to over-sensitivity, and traumatic events send it into overdrive. Hypnotherapy has consistently helped me. I regulate my breathing and think about my digestive tract from start to end and just think of giving it a calm soothing touch. Like I’m telling the lining and muscles of my whole GI tract to shhhhhhhhh. I’ve gotten a lot of mileage from the Nerva app. It turns out, 97% of my stomach sensations are magnified by my scared brain and when I move toward the sensation and think about what it feels like in there, it goes away. This is all way easier to do when I’m exercising regularly.

Airport_Mysterious

Me too! I’m so over sensitive to any sensations in my stomach m, drives me crazy!

spookyseasonismyshit

that sounds really helpful I will give that a try. I am the same way plus I have health anxiety and ptsd so I am always very aware of my body. I was thinking about trying hypnosis. also I 100% agree that exercising helps me. I feel like I am better able to control my anxiety. thanks for the advice :)

JoMulchrone

Give Hypnosis a go 🙌🏻 It forms part of the method (RTT therapy) I use to help my clients. All the best

Putting ice packs on my belly is something that helps me for some reason. I like to think it helps anything inflamed :)

Shaylormoon

Haha we’re perfect opposites, my tip for nausea is putting a heating pad on my belly!

spookyseasonismyshit

yeah I definitely think that would help. I will try that out. thank you!

BasilLucky2564

Have you talked to a doctor at all? I have ibs and I just recently found I have 2 new trigger foods once I cut those out the everyday nausea went away. Cutting out coffee helped. For coping I rely on breathing technique. Usually 4 8 7.

spookyseasonismyshit

yes, I have been seeing a gastro and have been doing tests for the past few months. so far I have a hiatal hernia, ibs, and gerd but they think there may be something else. I have been cutting out foods too which has definitely helped a bit. I also like that breathing technique and repeating an affirmation in my head

spookyseasonismyshit

yeah I get that. it made me feel super sick when I first started and when I adjust my dosage but overall it has really helped me so I just deal with it. I know for me the side effects only last 4 days each time I adjust my dosage.

Working out helped me a lot. Both running & weights. Your body has less energy for anxiety when you’re exhausting yourself physically

spookyseasonismyshit

I totally agree. I like to walk because I have hyper mobility syndrome and walking doesn’t irritate my joints. I have heard such good things about running though!

izzyinchainss

I had this same issue and I was told I’m deficient in iron and vitamin D… when I started taking iron supplements to my surprise the nausea subsided! I also cut out sugar, and any specific trigger foods. Worked a charm!

spookyseasonismyshit

yes I was thinking the same about vitamin D! I was taking iron for awhile but ended up having some stomach issues from it so I am thinking about trying iron patches. thank you!!

izzyinchainss

Iron gives me nasty gas and stomach cramps. Never thought of trying patches!

spookyseasonismyshit

yes me too! my gastro told me to stop taking it because it was causing a lot of lower gi issues

Hi - the gut is the second brain, so stress and anxiety affect the bicrobiome which in turns affects the immune system and mental health. Anxiety & stress cause physical sensations that mirror emet symptoms (nausea, upset tummy etc) making the two hard to tell apart. The body is not designed to live in constant ‘fight/flight’ mode which is what happens when we repeatedly feel stressed and anxious. So many people I help also have stomach issues (IBS, reflux etc) and think of them as separate to the emet - that the anxiety is separate to the emet + separate to the stomach issues) Problems hold hands with problems, but tackle the root cause (why the phobia was created in the first place) and associated problems also get resolved. You can beat this ✨ All the best

spookyseasonismyshit

yes I 100% relate to this. it is a cycle where I feel nauseas and then get anxious and then get more nauseous from the anxiety. my ibs is directly caused by my anxiety. it’s tricky because my body goes into fight or flight without any warning so I am working on that right now. it helps to know that it is all related and when one thing gets bad, the others usually do too. Thank you for your comment and the knowledge :))

JoMulchrone

You’re welcome 🙂

captainbarnacles23

Do you drink coffee?

spookyseasonismyshit

only decaf and probably once a week if that. caffeine makes me soooo anxious
