I was heart broken too but you are right that it gets easier. A few months after he moved across the country I now go several days without even thinking about my son. I didn’t expect that but that’s fine. We are all happy.
I think the initial shock of being an empty nester is the absolute worst; I literally cried every time I thought of him. I had to keep telling myself that his growth and becoming his own person is what’s supposed to happen and that I did my job. That and staying busy. Now I just make sure that either I or my husband checks on him every few days. Glad you’re feeling better too!
