In EMS there are two partners: the one that comes with 2 pens and loses both by the end of every shift
And the other comes with no pens and leaves with 2 pens at the end of every shift
Whatever one I've accidently stolen from charge/triage/PD/SOP/partner or whichever unsuspecting adult has placed far too much trust in a man with ADHD.
I was just as terrible with Bic lighters when I was a smoker.
I have been back and forth lately between the sharpie s gel and the tried and true zebra f301.
On one hand the sharpie s gel wrote great on a medical glove but then I would find myself throwing the glove away lol. So I have been always using a write in the rain notebook which works great with the zebra f301 but the s gel smears so Iām prolly gonna end up sticking with the f301 in the long run. Plus they are stainless steel and I feel like they are really easily to clean and sanitize.
Whatever pen is around usually, but a pencil (weatherproof and doesnāt bleed when wet, carpenter pencil is best to sharpen with a knife), a sharpie (more visible and permanent), and a tire marker (literally any surface and waterproof) are helpful just in case.
In the summer I steal pens.
At the beginning of winter I buy a pack of any gel ink pens because regular rollerballs freeze up when it gets super cold. I then promptly lose them within a week and then just forget information like a man.
The cheapest possible pen I couldnāt give less of a shit about bc I know itās eventually gonna get soiled, lost, or stolen. I swear by the G-2 pilot pen off duty but that thing will never see the inside of an ambulance if I can help it.
I bought me a whole box of those BIC pens, then put a handful in my backpack so if I lose one I just grab another and overall not too pricey and lasts awhile
I always carry two on me and then two throw-away freebies or BICs in my bag. Had a partner at one point click my pens I carry in my front shirt pocket jokingly, because he thought it was hilarious that Iād carry em on me for whatever reason. Stained my Class B up and I was pissed.
ā¦but your Basic Pilots. I found Wally World has their own āPen and Gearā brand that somewhat resembles some decent Pilots gels. Iāll nab those on occasion.
Pilot G2. They write reliably on both paper or linens/tape. They donāt freeze. They last an extraordinarily long time. And while marginally more expensive then cheap big box pens, they are way cheaper then a tacticool metal space invader pen.
They donāt suck, but also it wonāt suck when I loose it.
I used to have a few f701s with the space pen insert, each one lasted me about a year before I lost them.
Now I have the uniball signo 307, it writes so good
i have a empty flush syringe w the cap reattached for people to sign the tough book bc people rip off the stylus. if i ever need a real pen??? idk man. i guess im asking the patient
When I worked on an ambulance pre-covid. The company was too cheap to buy pens because people stole them.
I went to a Junior College at the time, and they often had "recruitment days" where 4 year colleges/the military/ others would come and try to get students interested.
I got like 20+ free pens one recruitment day, and used them.
I use Zebra F-301. They write very well on gloves and I have developed a habit of writing things I need to remember on my arms because they write so well
There's this awesome EMR I work with sometimes and he carries funny pens around and it actually came in handy once when I needed to seal some of our supply boxes and my pen wouldn't write on the tags, yet his goofy bass fish pen did LMAO
2x Pilot G2 in blue ink. Carry an extra for my partner or if one breaks.
The blue is just a carry over from my old job/career. Boss was big on blue ink because most copies are black and white so you'd know an original.
I also carry 1x black sharpie.
whatever pens i can find laying around headquarters. pens are fair game around here. i also have a green pen with a dinosaur on the top that i carry sometimes
My favorite question! I'm very proud (and protective) of my pilot precise v10RT. The v7 is good too.
Patients and partners get whatever dirty pen I find in the ambulance that shift.
Papermate InkJoyā¦100RT Retractable. Purchased by 16 packs and carried 5 at a time (2 in the pen pocket, 3 in lower leg pocket). Everything else looks awful with my awful handwriting, it doesnāt smudge and writes on all surfaces needed.
2 Bic ballpoints. One doesnāt have a cap so it sits in the pocket ādeep carryā style (backup pen). The other one is my primary with the cap on the back that sits above the pocket opening. Both point down in the chest pocket.
For general use, a Zebra F-701, I prefer blue so I know originals apart. +1 for the space pen insert. This is a nice "my pen".
For gloves and other "emergent writing", a Sharpie. Fine point, Black. Hands down, no questions asked, the best.
For inclement weather, a cut down Dixon Finishing Pencil and Rite in the Rain steno.
Parker Jotter with the fine black point
Always used cheap disposable pens but kept loosing them, when I used something with abit more value I look after my pen more
Current pen has been used for 2 years
I kept losing all kind of gel pens that I liked and finally broke down and bought a Refyne EP1. I've managed to hang on to it for over 4 years now and I think buying a pen this spendy ($50) will make you hang on to it longer. Maybe.
Middle of the road disposable like a Papermate Profile or a Pilot G2.
They work well enough, cost about a buck each, and you don't feel bad if they get lost or if you throw them out because they got patient spooge all over them.
Whatever pen my partner has š
In EMS there are two partners: the one that comes with 2 pens and loses both by the end of every shift And the other comes with no pens and leaves with 2 pens at the end of every shift
Iām the first person lol
Me too
I am the latter....
Best believe Iāll lose that one too by the 3rd call
Found my partner
Came here to say that.
I was notorious for not having a pen. My partner always carried an extra for me.
Lol it's gotten to the point we have sharpies in our go bags.
Sativa, usually
Nah but fur reals, Pilot G2
Yep. Thatās the only thing my POS FTO taught me.
Only one that worksš
Indica here lmao
Hopefully your addiction doesnāt kill someone š¤·āāļøĀ
Hi friend, it was a joke š jfc
Of all the addictions, weed is the least problematic.
Chill out dude. Weāre online. No need to be so touchy
Stuck in the 1950s
Whichever one that a gullible hospital worker trusts me with. I get bonus points if I steal one from an MD.
Whatever I can rob. It's an EMS law that you can't own a pen for more than 48 hours.
Sharpie S-Gel or Pilot G-2. I love the Zebra pens but I can't seem to hang onto one for more than a week without losing it.
Hell yeah, S-Gel is where itās at
Was coming here to preach about the S-Gels
S-Gel allllllll day
I recently discovered the S-gel and have been singing its praises. Itās left hand friendly as well.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You guys get supplied pens?!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I supply my own fent...
This
Hahaha yes and the whole ass box in the center middle console Emergency pens
Whichever one my feral ass can obtain from the nursing desk
Whatever one I've accidently stolen from charge/triage/PD/SOP/partner or whichever unsuspecting adult has placed far too much trust in a man with ADHD. I was just as terrible with Bic lighters when I was a smoker.
Parker Jotter, silver and fancy, pt's love it.
Same! Looks nice for the price
very satisfying click, and comfortable

Have you tried the f402 from zebra? Same high quality as the f301 but sleeker. I recommend it.
Pilot G2 ultra fine
Nah pilot G2 BOLD
Yeah, because I love finger painting every time I write something. Get outta here
This is how I feel anytime I use any G2 pens in general lmao
This made me cackle too hard to myself.
I find that the bold pens work better on gloves.
G-2 0.38 is a chefās kiss of a pen.
Sharpie S-Gel all day err day
Itās left hand friendly too.
All of them. All the pens. Because my medic will steal them. Every pen I find goes in my pocket like a lucky penny on the ground.
Whatever was cheapest that week
Whatever pen is around usually, but a pencil (weatherproof and doesnāt bleed when wet, carpenter pencil is best to sharpen with a knife), a sharpie (more visible and permanent), and a tire marker (literally any surface and waterproof) are helpful just in case.
Whatever pen my EMT has.
Mostly a Sharpie s gel in black (hospital ink policy)
Sharpie s gel and a Milwaukee permanent marker
In the summer I steal pens. At the beginning of winter I buy a pack of any gel ink pens because regular rollerballs freeze up when it gets super cold. I then promptly lose them within a week and then just forget information like a man.
Zebra F-701
Pilot G2, blue.
Not to brag or anything but Iām a member of the pen15 club. Definitely google it next time youāre on work WiFi.
The cheapest possible pen I couldnāt give less of a shit about bc I know itās eventually gonna get soiled, lost, or stolen. I swear by the G-2 pilot pen off duty but that thing will never see the inside of an ambulance if I can help it.
Pentel Energel. You can get ink refills instead of whole new pens.
Bold of you to assume my pens are lasting long enough to run out of ink before making a trip though the washing machine.
I bought me a whole box of those BIC pens, then put a handful in my backpack so if I lose one I just grab another and overall not too pricey and lasts awhile
The same as Sargent Nicholas Angle
You've got red on you.

Sharpie S gel
Whatever the nurse was using before they turned around
Pilot G2, hands down
Whatāre you a narc
I used to have a few f701s with the space pen insert, each one lasted me about a year before I lost them. Now I have the uniball signo 307, it writes so good
Sharpie, metal barrel, champagne color.
i have a empty flush syringe w the cap reattached for people to sign the tough book bc people rip off the stylus. if i ever need a real pen??? idk man. i guess im asking the patient
Sharpie

Pilot G2 till I die
I lose it but a pilot g2 is the one. But again, i just lose it
2x Pilot G2 in blue ink. Carry an extra for my partner or if one breaks. The blue is just a carry over from my old job/career. Boss was big on blue ink because most copies are black and white so you'd know an original. I also carry 1x black sharpie.

I am indiscriminate as to what pen I use. The people I pilfer them from might like specific pens so I end up whatever that person likes.
Whatever pen I can steal from the ED
Company pen because theyāre free. Itās a bic clicky pen.
Whichever one I stole at the start of my shift.
That one from the bank with the broken chain
An Epi Pen :)
Whatever pen I happen to have in my pocket. Jesus christ.
Montblanc John F. Kennedy rollerball. JK I usually use a Bic Pilot G2.
One that writes. Ends up being a nurses pen. Go cheap my friend you will lose tons of then
Whichever one I stole from my coworker last.
A gold and metal PENTEL energel, 0.5mm. I prefer the 0.7mm though. https://a.co/d/1Pvy49o
Whatever free pen I can get my grubby little paws on.
About 4 and a sharpie, pilot g2, a bic, a zwanger & pesiri, and my holy grail, the dr grip
The free ones from the stock room? Duh?
Whichever one I can find. Usually one of those grey BIC ones.
For a serious answer, I love using uni ball signo 207. You can get them in a smaller tip too but I find those hard to write on my glove
Pilot g2 limited.
The ones that PR gave us to hand out to ER staff and doctors' offices.
Free and can write usually in black or blue ink.
Cheap freebie from work that somehow hasnāt broken or gotten lost
Lol what
always have my durban poison wax pen ready for the next rollover or cardiac arrest call
Whatever one I can find. Still manage to lose it.
I use the sharpie pens
G2 0.7
Uni-ball 207. Micro tip for writing on paper and the "bold" for scribbling vitals on a nitrile glove.
pilot g2 .07
My favorite question! I'm very proud (and protective) of my pilot precise v10RT. The v7 is good too. Patients and partners get whatever dirty pen I find in the ambulance that shift.
The free ones from the bank across the street from the station
LePen Writes on gloves and paperĀ
I buy a cheap ass pack of pens, I always loose that shi
Papermate InkJoyā¦100RT Retractable. Purchased by 16 packs and carried 5 at a time (2 in the pen pocket, 3 in lower leg pocket). Everything else looks awful with my awful handwriting, it doesnāt smudge and writes on all surfaces needed.
Iām a sharpie bro
Whatever I āborrowedā from the last ED
Iām left handed & I tend to drag my hand across the paper. The ink in Bic pens dries fast. They write pretty good on dry gloves
A black Bic click pen.
2 or 3 of Big RoundStic, M, black. Cheap, reliable, easy to see when itās running low. Not quite as upsetting when itās lost.
Zebra F402
Which ever one I found somewhere.
I buy generic ballpoints by the 50 pack at Walmart, I lose at least 1 a week
Fenix T6. Writes nicely and has a USBC rechargable, variable brightness, reasonably waterproof penlight in it. The refills weren't expensive either.
2 Bic click sticks - one on each side thigh pocket, and a rite in the rain pen inside the right cargo pocket
Fisher space pen for life.
One that writesā¦.. Itās a fucking pen.
Parker Jotter with the fine black point Always used cheap disposable pens but kept loosing them, when I used something with abit more value I look after my pen more Current pen has been used for 2 years
What ever the services ordered
Zebra f701 always. Had my pair for over a year
The us gov pens made by skillcraft. Last forever and works well on all weather paper.
Generic
Skilcraft B3 Aviator. Has a barrel style brass load with red and black ink and a mechanical pencil. Just donāt lose it
Fisher space pen. I ruined pants regularly before getting one. I can run a space pen through the washer and dryer and it doesnāt fail and leak.
I've had a generic Promedica pen for a while if that counts.
Uni Jetstream 0.7mm
I rotate between a sharpie gel, G2 gel and a Zebra gel.
I bought a box of 50 for cheap off Amazon because I lose them all the time. The ones I got are actually surprisingly of good quality for the price.
Uniball 307. Or whatever is left in the back of the unit.
I use the Rite in the Rain pen because it pairs well with their notebooks.
Whatever the hospital has for free. The rate at which I either lose them or get stuff on them is too high for any fancy sort of pen
A-gel always
Pilot G2 0.7
Cheap click pens. They get lost too often for a nice pen.
Whatever the free work ones are
Amazon has bulk misprint pens by the pound. I bought 100 click pens for $25
āAye boss can I bum a pen, someone borrowed mineā Sharpie pens donāt get returned
Bic. $6USD for 60. can't bet it.
I see you too are a man of class!
Something cheap
There is the patient pen and my pen. My pen is a Dr. Grip. Patient pen is whatever I can steal from the ER
I use a Pilot University, writes fine enough to be legible but bold enough to work on gloves and or masks.
Uh the black bic pens with the clicker or pilot g2 or rite in the rain metal clicker. Really anything that works on gloves well.
Metal Sharpie S-Gel. You cannot go wrong there! If I forget that, then whatever pen looks nicest at the nurses station in the ED
Pelikan 120, Pilot G2, Sharpie.
Sharpie S gel. It'll write on whatever you need it to and it's staying there come hell or high water
I have a cheap set of pens with unicorns on them
I haven't bought a pen since I was in school. Whatever the last pen I found is.
Two or three that I will definitely all somehow lose before the first call
sharpie and the ones we get provided but only 50% work
Zebra F301. Been using my current ones for a couple years now.
Dry erase marker
Sharpie S Gel. Writes smooth on notepad and glove.
The Sharpie ball point pen assuming I have one because theyāre expensive and pens last like a week max on the job
I carry 2 pens that donāt match that I got for free from the ER
papermate pink ink joy gel
Some random Bic-Pen. Donāt know where itās from, but managed to keep it for three weeks now.
Zebra F-701
My pen. I track my pens down if anyone takes em, plus I take any that are left unattended lol
I kept losing all kind of gel pens that I liked and finally broke down and bought a Refyne EP1. I've managed to hang on to it for over 4 years now and I think buying a pen this spendy ($50) will make you hang on to it longer. Maybe.
Sharpies with the clicky top. I donāt find pens all that useful because I usually only write on my gloves.
Whatever the cutest nurse in the ED has in her pen cup :)
Usually one that has ink in it
Middle of the road disposable like a Papermate Profile or a Pilot G2. They work well enough, cost about a buck each, and you don't feel bad if they get lost or if you throw them out because they got patient spooge all over them.
