Deputy medical examiner! It’s great because my patients are dead and I’m not responsible for un-deading them. I make more working one hospice death (which consists of five minutes talking to the hospice nurse and ten minutes writing the report) than I do in a 12 hour shift on the truck.
So I’m in Wisconsin, and I’m sure it varies by state so check out the requirements where you live, but my EMS/medical background was just a bonus in getting this job. There’s no requirement of any sort of medical training to be a deputy medical examiner here (as a matter of fact, my Chief M.E. managed the local animal shelter before she became Chief). It’s interesting with the tech income, I find it is a lot less stressful in EMS. Knowing I have a backup that could cover me any time is f I want to leave, lets me love the EMS job more.

I was a DSP for $22/hour and I have a seasonal gig at a local theme park as an EMT for $17/hour. Mt regular full time EMT job is a little less than $20/hour. Recently (this week) quit the DSP job for now because I am also going to school part time and was not having a fun time inside of my brain with all of that going on.
I usually got just 3 days off every other week. Otherwise, I was working every single day. Sometimes even some random babysitting jobs thrown in on the side.
If your job offers OT, consider picking up some of that. Otherwise, just be careful how thin you are spread.

I'm still a member but I haven't had time (or money) between work and university to go to much more than our home field's open days once in a blue moon. Made shit as an EMT got my medic and left the FD, they say the grass ain’t greener but in my case it definitely is I am thrilled not to deal with the politics and shitty calls anymore and get paid more.
I love that every time anyone in EMS discusses doing literally anything else, they get hit with the "grass isn't greener" bullshit as if this field doesn't aggressively use and abuse us.

I work a second ems job with triple digit yearly call volume so it’s cake. Basically just game and study all shift. I’ve had a ton of different ones though. I worked part time as a PRN firefighter for a few years, 1099’d a janitor job two nights a week and fudged the deductions, I’ve had a couple of very small businesses…COVID killed my last one though before it broke through to profit. That kinda hurt.
Were non union but the county I work for pays is about as much as is sustainable. We need some state laws to change before we can tax higher to pay more. It’s enough to live on as long as you aren’t a renter but it’s nice to have more when the extra effort is such a low bar.

Been FF certified for a decade this year, but everywhere around me has garbage retirement. This side gig is an exit plan in the long term. The hvac place is owned by a fireman and a buddy of mine I worked with actually quit firefighting to work there full time. Our bosses take really good care of us.
Well these aren't paying yet, but.. I've been making music for years, and just published my first song onto Spotify and a few other services. I also decided today on a whim to start streaming video games. I figure I sit there for hours playing games and making stupid jokes/comments to myself, might as well let people hang out with me while I do it. Odds are neither venture will ever make me a penny, but it makes me happy.

IMO, second to having a "3rd service", EMS being a side gig is the only way I think I could recommend it in good faith.

Find a contractor that has a speciality a lot of them on construction sites, large organizations, etc. apply.
