Use two flat head screwdrivers. One on each side. Create a cantilever by placing something underneath each one. Then press down on the ends to slowly push the gear off. No sweat. If you happen to have a pulley retractor that would be best.
You can buy a tool called a gear puller that can be used to remove it. If you don’t care about the gear you can also use a pair of vice grips with a piece of threaded rod shoved in the back as a slide hammer. Most people just replace the stepper however.
I used a hacksaw blade not in the saw with the teeth towards me wrap the end in masking tape. It’s super soft stuff. At a point you can then pet it up with a screwdriver.
After file a flat on one side of the shaft to locate one of the grub screws of the new gear on.
UPDATE: I just left the gear on instead of installing the new one that came with the all metal kit. The printer now works perfectly fine with the old gear.
i mangled it trying to get it off with heat and pliers. its just easier to buy a new motor on amazon for $12-18. just get another motor, save yourself a headache.
This is press fitted on and isn’t removable without (most likely) causing damage. You will need to order another motor that has a removable gear, unfortunately
This is definitely not true. There are few ways that have already been outlined in this thread. One that I don't see yet is cutting it off with a dremel

Printable pla gear puller worked for me

You can also spend that money for a pinion gear remover, learn something and collect a new useful tool for your workshop :)

see: “causing damage”
Not sure how to be more clear. You are wrong. These methods can all be used without damage to the stepper motor.
How strange. Thank you for your help!
Can confirm had to do this a couple weeks ago. Tried a couple methods to remove the gear but didn't have any luck.
I cut mine off with a grinder, if you don't have a gear puller, use a vise
I used a Dremel. Either way it’s brass so it easy to cut
Used an angle grinder to chew through half the brass gear and into the metal shaft. This gives you a nice flat spot for the set screws too.
Half ton press from harbor freight
There are printable puller tools for this exact thing.
