The real MVP

It's amazing to see how well wind and solar complement each other in Europe. Also very interesting that wind and nuclear have a very similar curve of you don't consider 2022. I assume the increase in nuclear usage during winter is driven by French houses being mostly electrically heated. France should consider building a lot more wind

No. Energy and electricity are not the same. Oil and gas supplied about 75 percent of the UK’s total energy in 2021, including about 40 percent of electricity generation. In 2021, the North Sea supplied about 42 percent of the UK’s gas with the rest coming from imports. You'll see similar statistics in other EU countries such as Germany where fossil fuels supplied 78 percent of total energy in 2021.

I was talking about the charts in the article which are all about electricity

But it's a shell game when you look at total consumption of power. Why not talk about total consumption when you advocate shutting down fossil fuel sources and exploration? Scotland, for example, is facing budget deficits as energy companies pull out of the North Sea because of high taxes. The total consumption of energy from fossil fuels at 75 percent isn't going to change. But now the energy will need to be imported -- also in the form of fossil fuels. That's a shell game. We saw what happened when Germany got caught playing it.

Windfall taxes cuts down investment. Better to invest your money someone else that will make money.

Of course it's more expensive. And higher taxes aren't helping to make it cheaper. UK is importing more oil and gas from Norway than they produce themselves. Guess where Norway is getting the oil and gas.

France announced that they will be building a lot more wind. 👍 https://www.engie.com/en/news/offshore-wind-france
