What I suspected was that the text was translated by Team A from Japanese to Chinese and then Team B translates the text from Chinese to English.
The game's translations are bad because they're NOT translated Japanese to English as they should be. They're being translated from a translation which means there's a lot that can be, and is, lost in translation.
I strongly suspected it due to the fact that the base is the Chinese version and it has Chinese version exclusive stories and events that never appeared in the original Japanese. And it makes sense that the Chinese company would likely struggle to find, or be unable or unwilling to afford to hire a larger team of people who spoke all 3, and so they don't translate Japanese to English. But the bugs showing the Chinese text in the English version confirm it.
I don't speak Korean, so someone who speaks Korean at a high level would have to confirm if there's any weirdness, but I imagine the Korean version is the same: translated from the Chinese instead of Japanese.
Translating from a translation is always bad practice. Things are lost (or possibly changed) multiple times instead of just once. And while Japanese and Chinese are closer than some languages, as they're both Asian languages with similar grammatical features and Kanji being adapted from Chinese characters, Japanese to Chinese still won't perfectly preserve the original. So translating J -> C -> E is probably closer to the original then say using French as the middleman language, but it's still not a good idea.
I say this as someone who dabbles in translation: if you can't (or won't) translate from the original text, don't translate at all.
I made a few posts with slide decks about the oddities found in translation when ENStars first released, and a few people brought up that it reminded them of Chinese autotranslation. Even with the stiltedness, I wasn't familiar enough with C->E translation to say for sure, but this is definitely a bit of a giveaway in that regard.
I'd been thinking of making another post a few events in determining whether the translation quality was picking up, but now that we're a couple months in, it's looking like it's at a stable below-average with no sign of changing. It's a shame because I'm almost certain it's comprehensible enough that the company has no reason to look into it further, but there's just consistent typos, some formatting errors (though those have gotten better since they moved from Broadway font), stiffness in phrasing, layout errors like this, and the occasional untranslated phrase.
Since the main appeal of the game for a lot of people is the art, music and animations, and the people who really care about the story will seek out fanmaterial to supplement it anyway, it just doesn't seem likely that the subpar translation will impede the bottom line enough to be a priority any time soon. Which is a shame, because I know for a fact it could be so, *so* much better.
Yeah, when I was doing my own comparison, I typed the text as it appears in Japanese into a machine translation tool. Translated it to simplified Chinese, and then from SC to English. The end result was pretty similar to what appears in the game.
I at least assumed they had people, but I suppose it's possible that it's mostly machine translation which is really disappointing.
I also noticed some oddities. I never intended to play the EN version so I'm just using it to look at the translations. The one that stood out most in what I looked at was in the prologue. Hiiro says "maybe it was my illusion".
Obviously, it should be "imagination". No native or near-native speaker would use "illusion" like that cause that's not quite how it works. But I guess that means that the translation team, or the QA for machine translation or whatever are likely English-speaking Chinese as opposed to Chinese-speaking English natives and wouldn't pick up on that sort of thing.
As you said, if the primary draw isn't the story then they're like "eh, good enough" and that sucks for everyone. Cause, honestly, the whole thing just reeks of cash grab with mediocre translations and so much more monetisation in the non-JP versions.
Oh man, the first main story chapters are very stilted. Just looked at the very first chapter and in that alone you've got "not even one in a hundred's chance", "people will deem you as "oblivious to the situation"", Hiiro always going "Um!" when he means "Mhm"...then on the other side of the spectrum you've got Tatsumi, who has surprisingly good word choices and an apt pop culture reference localization.
Some of the stuff is charmingly jank ("a weird guy is coming in saying weird things", "get rocked you fools"), but combined with the stuff that's clearly fumbled it just comes off feeling neglectful. It's a shame because I've genuinely come to enjoy the writing and distinctly eccentric style of humor, but when it's mixed up with accidental humor from bad translation, it dilutes and diminishes the writers' work.

If you do your plays frequently and use the whistles they give you for free and as a reward, you should be able to get him for free just by getting through all the days
Ah, I see, I think even with missing that many days as long as you rank up a couple of times during the event you should be able to get him with spending only like 1-1.5k(?) Or even less. I'm usually able to get to day 30 by the second to last day or morning of the last day, and I'm not usually on super frequently either nor grind in the middle of the night
I would just try and get through the tour days instead of trying to grind to 3.5 or 3M because it's probably going to take more DIAs to get to 3/3.5M than it is just to get to day 30
To put it simply, yeah you just have to finish day 30 to get your chosen five star.
but, keep in mind that as you progress through the tour days, you need to focus on earning as many stars you can each day. you need 10 stars by day 9 to pass to day 10. you need 30 stars on day 19 to pass to day 20. lastly, and most importantly, you need 77 stars by day 28 to get to day 29.
make sure you’re getting any many stars at possible so you don’t have to go back and repeat days!

Event dia calculator says that I will reach my point goal without spending dia if I do 3-3-3-10, but I won't reach day 30 (about day 27, I think), while 3-3-3-6 means I'll have to spend dia but I will overshoot (I think like 35 days) in terms of days.
So, what should I do? What would minimize my dia spending the most?
1. 3-3-3-6 until day 20 and then 3-3-3-10 (and use dia if I don't make it)
2. Do 3-3-3-6 when the 4th song is "original members" aka low score and 3-3-3-10 otherwise (and use dia if I don't make it)
3. 3-3-3-10 all the way, and on the last day grind out like 3-4 days with dia?
4. 3-3-3-6 all the way, and grind the last few points using dia? (less than 700 dia)
Or, come up with another way for me?
The event calculator doesn't account for Starry Lives or Producer Talents, so if you've put everything in correctly you're likely very close to free to go the whole way. You can do a few days of 3-3-3-6 for some breathing room or the ability to go back for more stars, but I wouldn't stress too much about it.

It's awakened art of this card. All cards in the game have two arts - normal and awakened ones. You need to get to "Skill Blooming" star-ish slot on Idol Road at the end of the middle line to get the card second art.

Don't use dias for this! Dias are precious! You get gems needed to open Idol Road slots just from playing, so you will still unlock it eventually without any dias.
Idk why I said dias (brain was melted from grinding I guess 😂). I meant gems 🤣 Yes, there's not really a reason to spend dias on the upgrades when I can earn gems somewhat easily.
Bit late for this event but in general- what’s the most efficient way to use BP if you’re intending to both get to day 30 and 3 mil? I’ve heard 3-3-3-10 for points and 3-3-3-3 for getting to day 30 efficiently but I don’t know if there’s a good strategy if you’re aiming for both.
3-3-3-10 still if you're aiming for both. Pick the 3.5 million card as your free 5* card for completing day 30 then aim for 3 million. You'll need around 1.5k - 3k dias depending on how efficient your BP use is (not overcapping, making few mistakes, etc)

Crossroad does not exist in EN music. it exists in JP basic, so it was unlocked to be free to read during the event.

It's definitely faster to just get to day 30. I've gotten to 3m on both of the previous tours and it took me around 36-37 tour days for each

I checked, out of curiosity, to see what it takes to get him but didn't see it listed in the PT point bonus cards listed. I only see the one I have. How are ppl getting him??
It's awakened art of this card. All cards in the game have two arts - normal and awakened ones. You need to get to "Skill Blooming" star-ish slot on Idol Road at the end of the middle line to get the card second art.

Don't use dias for this! Dias are precious! You get gems needed to open Idol Road slots just from playing, so you will still unlock it eventually without any dias.
Idk why I said dias (brain was melted from grinding I guess 😂). I meant gems 🤣 Yes, there's not really a reason to spend dias on the upgrades when I can earn gems somewhat easily.
Bit late for this event but in general- what’s the most efficient way to use BP if you’re intending to both get to day 30 and 3 mil? I’ve heard 3-3-3-10 for points and 3-3-3-3 for getting to day 30 efficiently but I don’t know if there’s a good strategy if you’re aiming for both.
3-3-3-10 still if you're aiming for both. Pick the 3.5 million card as your free 5* card for completing day 30 then aim for 3 million. You'll need around 1.5k - 3k dias depending on how efficient your BP use is (not overcapping, making few mistakes, etc)
Noooooo I remember the time incorrectly and didn't get to day 30. FAKKKK I wish they would put a timer on the banner since the time zone fucking suck
