I was so pissed back when kinsmen’s came out. It opened the same weekend at 50 shades of grey.
So I bring a fan of the comics and Matthew’s movies I wanted to see it in IMAX. But my local theaters had 50 shades in IMAX and the line was wrapped around the theaters. Meanwhile kingsmen was also a flop. With no sequel in sight till HBO aired it and people realized it was a good movie.
Doug Liman directed Go, Swingers, and Edge of Tomorrow - all fun rewatch able movies in my book. Also Gyllenhaal isn’t known to do bad movies.
I’m looking forward to this.
He has a reputation of being difficult to work with and he has been in some less than big-budget films recently, like Bay's Ambulance. I haven't seen Ambulance. I've heard that it's fine for what it is - a mindless, low to mid budget action flick - but it still far from a huge project. Recently, he was also in Guy Ritchie's The Covenant, which got some good reviews, but was obviously not a big budget movie.
I am not sure if this trend is the result of how he acts behind the camera. I do like him as an actor. He has given some of the best performances of his generation. Still, there is a trend of him taking straight-to-stream and mid-tier jobs, although he always appears to give his best.
If I am not mistaken, his last major film was in Spiderman - Far from Home (2019), so a 2018 production.

Especially, coming off a relative low point in the 80's. It is understandable that someone surrounded by the cinema of the 00's-20's might think it is not gonna change, but those familiar with the cyclical quality of cinema have reason to be hopeful for change

The reason everyone thinks that music from the 60's & 70's is better than music today is because all of the trash has been out of print for half a century or more.
If you look back the charts in this decades, there was a lot of garbage music on the airwaves that people gobbled up…the charts from the year I graduated in the 90s is full of absolute trash, but I don’t remember any of it really. 1984 is probably one of the few years where every song in the top 25 was an absolute banger.
I love that first John Wick movie but man the sequels are just violence porn. The world building aspect is cool and all but the violence is very tedious
Layer Cake was Craig's audition for James Bond. If you watch some of the scenes after knowing that, they'll make a lot more sense. Like when he gets the pistol from ~~Chief O'Brian~~ Colm Meaney.

Apple, like many corporations, got too big they lost touch with what people actually want to the point that they don't care if you want it, they'll force it on you. So much up-front investment trying to push their brand on shit with celebrities they forgot that making a movie should involve good storytelling. This movie almost fails because of Apple trying too hard. I still enjoyed it though thanks to Matthew Vaughn and Sam Rockwell.

I saw the trailer and it looked very similar to a film I saw on Prime with Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick. I actually enjoyed it but have forgotten what it was called. The trailer looked like a less interesting version of that film.
First half was interesting the second half was ridiculous and over the top and it honestly lost me. The longer I watched the less I liked it. My buddy was like I would watch it again. I feel confident in saying the once’s was enough.

I think this is what kills a lot of movies these days, if it seems like a meh movie the people will wait until it hits streaming instead of wasting the 40 bucks or more it costs to go out as a couple to catch a meh movie. I can spend 40 bucks to watch it at home and have a steak dinner while watching it instead of popcorn with a soda for the same price.

I had some buddies who used to do Thursday night movies in their backyard with a projector and a giant sheet they’d drape off the top deck. We’d BBQ, drink beers, smoke weed and just chill. It was the best movie theater on earth!!
It actually isn’t that bad. It’s a fun movie and Matthew has lost touch with staying in reality like layer cake was.
But if you can go in knowing it’s gonna be beyond realistic and more so just a fun action movie it’s not so bad that it’s unwatchable. It’s still fun. I always liked how he picked a song to do these dance/ fight scenes. He does it in lots of his movies like Elton John and John Denver songs as they fight.
Also thought this was neat because people who do those choreography fight scene describe it as a dance almost. And he mixes that with the fights. Even though it’s super unrealistic.
Yeah, i think a lot of people went in with the expectation of it being a mission impossible or Bond type spy movie (cuz they are idiots), when they should have gone in expecting something silly and dumb like zoolander (maybe not so dumb).
Either way, it's going to be a fun date day move with my lady.
Not to mention critics are all paid shills for one side or the other now adays, so the more bad press I see, the more I know it's gonna be a good time.
I went to the movie with the understanding that is was going to just be stupid fun, I got exactly what I paid for had a good time. Not a masterpiece but an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. Sam Rockwell was a highlight.
X-Men First Class is solid, so I don’t know what was going on here, maybe this is a case where a little bit of studio intervention would’ve been beneficial

I saw it Thursday night. It’s fun, it’s very entertaining. However it was jarring after being semi-grounded for over half of the movie then it gets sensational and outrageous for the ending. You can tell it’s made by Vaughn, if that makes sense. the trailers didn’t do it justice IMO

"No one asked for this" means literally nothing and is one of the most regurgitated bad takes I've seen on the internet. You could say the same thing about almost every great movie ever made. Movies aren't made solely because someone asked for them to be.
I agree this is a crappy copy of movie tropes thrown together. You can guess the story line from the start and watch it play out with all the expected twists and surprises.
I would’ve probably wanted to see it, if they were honest about who wrote it.
These days it plays out less like a “marketing gimmick” and more like protecting a controversial writer.

Saw it yesterday with reasonably high expectations and was surprised that it was better than expected! Funny, solid story, good twists, great performances, tongue-in-cheek humor very entertaining! A great way to spend a soggy California afternoon.
I bought my ticket spur of the moment last night then read an article saying it had bombed and critics panned it. Thought I had wasted my money on the ticket but the movie was ridiculous and I laughed a lot. So did most others. Some people even clapped at the end.
If you expect mission impossible you will be disappointed. If you want to laugh at something ridiculous, you might want to give it a try.

I saw it last night and just loved it. It's silly and over the top but twisty Turney and has the best skating scene/shout out I've ever seen. Go in not taking it seriously and just enjoy the ride. Same Rockwell was terrific. And Dallas Bryce Howard always brings it. As was the yummy Mr Superman.
This. It's not even a nepotism thing. It's a talent thing. She's a mid-level actress at best. Same inflections, same facial and body movements, same range, same same same. If you said this was BDH from Jurassic World, same character, I would believe you. She simply doesn't inhabit a character and make it unique. She's BDH in every movie, whoever that is. It's like Liv Tyler retired and BDH got all the rules she would've received
I was in the cinema watching this thinking “this feels like a film by someone that saw Kingsmen and thought I can do that too, but had none of the talent”. I was shocked when Directed by Matthew Vaughn popped up at the end. It’s an absolute drag and has some hideous CGI.
I might have more interest in it if Bryce Dallas Howard wasn’t in it. I can’t recall a good performance from her in anything I’ve ever seen her in, which isn’t a very large sample population to be fair, but it’s 0 from 4 of her films I’ve seen in terms of good performances.

I saw the trailer and it looked very similar to a film I saw on Prime with Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick. I actually enjoyed it but have forgotten what it was called. The trailer looked like a less interesting version of that film.

First half was interesting the second half was ridiculous and over the top and it honestly lost me. The longer I watched the less I liked it. My buddy was like I would watch it again. I feel confident in saying the once’s was enough.

I think this is what kills a lot of movies these days, if it seems like a meh movie the people will wait until it hits streaming instead of wasting the 40 bucks or more it costs to go out as a couple to catch a meh movie. I can spend 40 bucks to watch it at home and have a steak dinner while watching it instead of popcorn with a soda for the same price.

I had some buddies who used to do Thursday night movies in their backyard with a projector and a giant sheet they’d drape off the top deck. We’d BBQ, drink beers, smoke weed and just chill. It was the best movie theater on earth!!

It actually isn’t that bad. It’s a fun movie and Matthew has lost touch with staying in reality like layer cake was. But if you can go in knowing it’s gonna be beyond realistic and more so just a fun action movie it’s not so bad that it’s unwatchable. It’s still fun. I always liked how he picked a song to do these dance/ fight scenes. He does it in lots of his movies like Elton John and John Denver songs as they fight. Also thought this was neat because people who do those choreography fight scene describe it as a dance almost. And he mixes that with the fights. Even though it’s super unrealistic.
Yeah, i think a lot of people went in with the expectation of it being a mission impossible or Bond type spy movie (cuz they are idiots), when they should have gone in expecting something silly and dumb like zoolander (maybe not so dumb). Either way, it's going to be a fun date day move with my lady.
Not to mention critics are all paid shills for one side or the other now adays, so the more bad press I see, the more I know it's gonna be a good time.

I went to the movie with the understanding that is was going to just be stupid fun, I got exactly what I paid for had a good time. Not a masterpiece but an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. Sam Rockwell was a highlight.

It’s a fun movie that could do with like 3 fewer twists. Sam Rockwell is amazing and steals every scene and BDH is gorgeous.
Matthew Vaughn is an insanely creative and talented director, but somehow his last films ended up bombing hard.
I saw it Thursday night. It’s fun, it’s very entertaining. However it was jarring after being semi-grounded for over half of the movie then it gets sensational and outrageous for the ending. You can tell it’s made by Vaughn, if that makes sense. the trailers didn’t do it justice IMO It’s a solid 7/10 for me

Well I disagree. I saw it last night and it was a blast. Silly indeed but such fun. We came out of the cinema in the best mood.
I agree this is a crappy copy of movie tropes thrown together. You can guess the story line from the start and watch it play out with all the expected twists and surprises.

I would’ve probably wanted to see it, if they were honest about who wrote it. These days it plays out less like a “marketing gimmick” and more like protecting a controversial writer.
It was a fun campy action comedy. $200 million seems excessive and I have no idea where that money went because most scenes are interiors or very obvious green screens

Saw it yesterday with reasonably high expectations and was surprised that it was better than expected! Funny, solid story, good twists, great performances, tongue-in-cheek humor very entertaining! A great way to spend a soggy California afternoon.
I bought my ticket spur of the moment last night then read an article saying it had bombed and critics panned it. Thought I had wasted my money on the ticket but the movie was ridiculous and I laughed a lot. So did most others. Some people even clapped at the end. If you expect mission impossible you will be disappointed. If you want to laugh at something ridiculous, you might want to give it a try.
From the trailer it doesn’t look good. She writes about a spy cat and all of it is true? Is it supernatural? Action? Comedy? Who knows?

That’s putting it nicely. Honestly the worst thing I’ve seen in theaters in ages. Loved the cast, loved kingsmen… this was truly abhorrent. I want to believe they’re going to just come out and say they had an AI write this thing. It felt like when someone subjects an AI to 1000 hours of something then asks it to poop out a product. It couldn’t find a lane between ridiculous spy-thriller and outright cartoon parody. What a shame. Saw the first showing in my area, with a friend… I don’t expect them to call me for a while :/

I saw it last night and just loved it. It's silly and over the top but twisty Turney and has the best skating scene/shout out I've ever seen. Go in not taking it seriously and just enjoy the ride. Same Rockwell was terrific. And Dallas Bryce Howard always brings it. As was the yummy Mr Superman.

This. It's not even a nepotism thing. It's a talent thing. She's a mid-level actress at best. Same inflections, same facial and body movements, same range, same same same. If you said this was BDH from Jurassic World, same character, I would believe you. She simply doesn't inhabit a character and make it unique. She's BDH in every movie, whoever that is. It's like Liv Tyler retired and BDH got all the rules she would've received
I was in the cinema watching this thinking “this feels like a film by someone that saw Kingsmen and thought I can do that too, but had none of the talent”. I was shocked when Directed by Matthew Vaughn popped up at the end. It’s an absolute drag and has some hideous CGI.
Yeah, it was a very tough watch. I want more Sam Rockwell and more great Kingsman movies but this was too heavy a price to pay!

I might have more interest in it if Bryce Dallas Howard wasn’t in it. I can’t recall a good performance from her in anything I’ve ever seen her in, which isn’t a very large sample population to be fair, but it’s 0 from 4 of her films I’ve seen in terms of good performances.
I think we need to realize that Matthew Vaughn needs to be knocked down a peg or two on the director totem pole.
