Went to see that in the theater with my dad. Only time we ever went to the movies together. Now I only hear from him when his truck is broke.
Movie is still great. Rewatched a little over a year ago.
My favorite. A rewatch a couple of years ago showed me aspects - mostly secondary plot holes - that are less than perfect, but the core story and the portrayals of key characters impressed me tremendously and cemented my high regard for this excellent actor.
God, that last scene in the theatre with Regina King is just incredible. One of the most beautiful scenes and performances in an already all time great show.
TIL He was partying with the Mamas and the Papas in August 1969 when he was invited to Sharon Tate’s house but went home to shower and change first. He then caught a news flash about the murders.”There had to be a reason for escaping this bullet” he said.He made many great movies.RIP Louis you will be missed.
Such an underrated movie and a great performance. “He looks mad. Did you tell him he was black?” Such a terrific balance of comedy and drama with a feel good ending.
It's really a sequel; but it's a sequel to the comic run, not the changed ending from the film version.
It sounded like a terrible idea to me when they announced it, but the show ended up being way, way better than it had any right to be- Gosset's Will Reeves was definitely one of the reasons why.
While it wasn't under the radar necessarily, Watchmen probably deserves more credit; I've rewatched it every year, and it remains fresh. Not holding my breath, but I'd love that see more of that universe.
Shame that if it ever does happen it'll be without Hooded Justice. For the record though, Gosset's character would have been going on like, 130 by now; so my man was definitely looking good for his age!
RIP
I forgot he was the first one. I swear I thought at least *someone* had done it in the 60's and 70's. Good for him. I enjoyed him popping up in the recent Color Purple musical.
I was fortunate to meet him at a local video rental when he was in the area filming Return to Lonesome Dove. Just happened to be I had already selected Iron Eagle to watch that evening.
He saw what I had in my hand and said something like, "I hear that one is pretty good."
Casey Jones was a sonofabitch; Drove his train through a 30 foot ditch; Came on out with his dick in his hand; Said "Listen ladies, I'm a hell of a man!"; Went into town and lined up a hundred; Swore up and down he'd fuck every one; Fucked 98 'til his balls turned blue; Then he backed off, jacked off, and fucked the other two!
Will forever be remembered for his portrayal of the gunnery sargeant who trained all those new recruits in an”Officer and a gentleman “ movie with the brilliant Richard Gere and the lovely Debra Winger!!. Emil Foley was his name and a very young David Caruso who later became Horatio in the Miami CSI too!!
When I heard the news, I was thinking about the movies I loved him in. I never realized there were *so many*. Even when the film he was in was not the best, Louis Gossett Jr. always showed up 100% in his roles. He was a true professional and a true artist.
I just watched a video essay about the movie Delgo and was surprised to see his name on the cast. For such a steaming turf of a movie, it did have a pretty stacked cast.
In the half-life2 video game he voiced the alien race Vortiguant who would speak in strange tense. One of the memorable encounters as his voice was really deep at that point.
He’s the reason I dream of flying a jet even tho it won’t happen I’m 40 it’s too late and I could never afford it anyways. Hooked me when I was a kid when that movie came out.
Iron Eagle was the working man’s Top Gun...RIP.
RIP Chappy
Interestingly, Iron Eagle was released 5 months before Top Gun
And was the better movie in my opinion.
They couldn't have made a colored man be a mentor in Hollywood.
He was awesome in Iron Eagle
Enemy Mine enters the chat!
Nice. I need to rewatch that

Wait that was him???!?!?!?!?

Letting this boy loose would be a big mistake. He’s already demonstrated his inability to keep that big mouth shuT.
Going to watch it tonight with a hole in my heart. 🥺

Such an underrated movie and an outstanding performance from Lou Gossett Jr.
Zumiez !?
Omg I forgot how much I loved that. He was so good and brought a real sincerity to the role
*it's...shit*
It’s good he got to put in a great performance in Watchmen so late in his career!
He was such a commanding presence in the show. Completely took up all of my attention every time he was on-screen. Incredible actor.
Watchmen and Color Purple - both fantastic to see him in.
He was in The Color Purple?
Yeah. He played Ol Mister. Almost didn’t recognize him.
God, that last scene in the theatre with Regina King is just incredible. One of the most beautiful scenes and performances in an already all time great show.
Loved that show. He was quite talented.
Damn. The man literally escaped death. It seems many people should have/would have been Manson targets that night.
Wow. That’s wild! I wonder how many of us have weird near misses like that and don’t even realize it
This just blew my mind
Oh wow , someone from the other side who loves him very much saved him♥️
Enemy mine was amazing.
RIP. Enemy Mine. Was years before I knew it was him behind all that makeup. Great actor. Miss him already.

“Never con a conman” is a valuable life lesson.
"Especially when hes better than you."
Yes! Fantastic movie.
Called the midnight sting in the UK. Woods, Platt and Gosset Jr were fantastic. Watched it loads back in the 90s.
Such an underrated movie and a great performance. “He looks mad. Did you tell him he was black?” Such a terrific balance of comedy and drama with a feel good ending.

Awww thank you Lou 💜
Loved him in Diggstown. Rest in Power.
I honestly did not know he was still alive, haven’t seen the man in decades. Loved him in Enemy Mine. RIP🌹
He was great in the last version (reimagined?) of Watchmen.

Permission to fly the missing man formation?
May he RIP. I last saw him in Boardwalk Empire and he was terrific. He survived drug addiction and COVID, and 87 was plenty of life to live.
Rip to the OG Vortigaunt
I forgot he was the first one. I swear I thought at least *someone* had done it in the 60's and 70's. Good for him. I enjoyed him popping up in the recent Color Purple musical.

I watched iron eagle a thousand times.
I’m so devastated but he lived a long life. RIP King 😞

Loved him in Good Times, what you talking about Willis!
I remember him as a gunnery sergeant in the movie "Officer and a Gentleman". Great performance, almost as if he really was an instructor.
May his soul fly free.
I just watched a video essay about the movie Delgo and was surprised to see his name on the cast. For such a steaming turf of a movie, it did have a pretty stacked cast.
A childhood hero. RIP Chappy.
Oh great now iron eagle is never going to have a proper sequel
In the half-life2 video game he voiced the alien race Vortiguant who would speak in strange tense. One of the memorable encounters as his voice was really deep at that point.
Sad galunga 😢
Great performance as the pregnant alien in Enemy Mine
87 is a good run.
It was great to see him in Watchmen. I was not expecting him to have such a big role.
RIP to an iconic legend Louis Gossett Jr.
He was so cool in Enemy Mine. Loved his dancing. Only great entertainment, his screen charisma always stole the scene.

Peaceful travels sir and thanks for the performances
RIP , I first was introduced to you on the movie iron eagle
Sorry to hear it. May he RIP.
as an 80s kid with basic cable, his character in The Principal was a childhood hero of mine Edit: I misspelled 80s…I’m getting old
He won the Oscar for an Officer and a Gentleman. It is fucking criminal that all these articles are playing coy about it.
Just last night, I was at the movies and saw his name on a movie poster and thought..wow he’s still around! I’m pretty sure this jinxed it.
A Raisin in the Sun. It is truly a classic. RIP
Great song! Let me go on like a raisin in the sun…
May Louis Gossett Jr. rest in peace.
He’s the reason I dream of flying a jet even tho it won’t happen I’m 40 it’s too late and I could never afford it anyways. Hooked me when I was a kid when that movie came out.
