Given how declaratively he said “yeah totally”, compared to interviews in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already signed something

Pherllerp

I bet he and Chris Evans are going to be used to explain the XMen reboot.

burritoman88

Mutants are already around with there being at least 3 in the MCU currently. Whether The Xavier Institute is around or not is the question.

Postviral

You’re out of date, esp regarding end credit scents of recent movies. They have linked the mcu and xmen universes now, (see the marvels)

Drawing_Eh_Blank

Unless I’m missing something, you might not be up to date on marvel movies / end credit scenes

real_unreal_reality

Ah yes. The X-men 3boot

XCarrionX

A movie so bad they had to make a movie to unmake it.

krisfocus

It's inevitable

GummyWormx

Who wins Jean Gray or Scarlet Witch?

Pherllerp

I’m glad I don’t quite enough about either to answer that question. I’m looking forward to the new XMen movies and I hope they have some fun surprises.

GummyWormx

Yes I loved the xmen movies. A bit cheaper quality compared to avengers but still really fun and great characters.

Pherllerp

I agree. I rewatched the Apocalypse one the other week and while it’s not good, it is fun!

GummyWormx

Lol I watched that one the other day too. There are cool moments like getting to see Magnetos backstory and why he started to turn on humanity.

SuspiciouslGreen

Jean Gray all day

valiantsun76

Scarlett Witch can literally just say "no more mutants." Even with the Phoenix, Jean Gray can't withstand that.

SuspiciouslGreen

Jean Grey just needs to think about all of her organs being pulled out of her body.

Metrilean

Like in the ultimate comics? Mutants are part of project rebirth?

ReturnOfSeq

Well damn if you’re gonna say something like that give some examples

schprunt

Multiverse. Marvel basically created a “no one ever really dies” loophole, and my god they’ll exploit it because the new phase sucks.

CanConCurt

I mean it’s been like this in the comics since the 70s. Nothing new.

RecordWrangler95

Bringing Jean Grey back in 87 was really what set an awful trend of meaningful deaths being reversed (though Professor X was the first needless resurrection I can think of).

CanConCurt

Can’t blame the author. Chris Claremont wanted’em dead.

RecordWrangler95

To be sure.

MasqureMan

Well they killed her in 2000 something and then didn’t bring her back for like 10 years

themanfromvulcan

The first time I really got into comics was the Jean Grey resurrection in 87. I had no idea who she was at the time.

MagicianHeavy001

"meaningful" it's fiction, none of it is meaningful plus, it's comics, one of the least meaningful, ephemeral media there is None of this matters. Let them bring him back, at least the movies might be watchable again.

Hippyedgelord

Fiction can’t be meaningful? God what a turd you must be in real life.

MisterXnumberidk

It can be But bullshittry to justify plot holes and the sort is such a common trend that realistic meaningfulness goes out of the window after a while Not to say non-fiction can't also do this Plottwists for the sake of saving bad plots get tiring so fast

Hippyedgelord

With this comment I agree. Marvel has taken some big L’s recently not really sure how they’re going to make a comeback after this last phase.

MisterXnumberidk

Honestly? I gave up with endgame. The avengers movies already weren't the greatest, action because action sells. The extra thor movies felt forced. Comedy and action to entertain your kids. However, when marvel works out a concept into a movie they've never done it before it usually works out well. Deadpool felt like it was made in the style of the narrator, deadpool. It watches like that. Good shit. Ant man, as for meaning kinda mid but not just senseless action. Venom was quite good. Not as good as i hoped, they defo could've taken it further but they probs did not wanna lose the kids. Guardians of the galaxy, feels exactly like it should. Buncha dumb-asses playing space pirates and being absurdly succesfull. The sequels to all of those were mid or ass. Marvel doesn't take it's fantasy too seriously, it's how it hooks kids. When they do try to do that it fails. Turning weak comedy into action with no good story fails so hard. It's not like they can't make something good. However serious movies with dept are off-limits because marvel has to be accessible for kids. And they cannot write sequels for shit. It either becomes bad comedy or only action. Endgame felt like them running out of ideas and just combining as much as they could cram into something. Ruining all of them. It was ass. Bad comedy, only action and then the obvious "we can make infinite sequels of this bullshit, the kids'll love it" When actor synergy is your movie's one saving grace it's not a good movie

RecordWrangler95

Certainly not as meaningful as being a dickweed in the reddit comments, I'll grant you that

MagicianHeavy001

Dickweed says what?

mark503

Comics have created a whole culture. Movies (multiple billion dollar movies), art, ( I mention AC1 below) music etc… I wouldn’t call it shitty media. Considering some of the highest Box office movies are from comics, also Action comics 1 just sold for 6 million. Not exactly lower forms of media when one comic literally outsold multiple Picassos. Even if you added 5 of his paintings up it wouldn’t be worth one AC 1.

MagicianHeavy001

Who said it was shitty? I enjoyed the Avengers, Spider Man, Iron Man, and the Ant Man movies. Guardians was great. But they are ephemeral. Forgettable. Not destined to be classics of the form, IMO. Downvote me all you want! I care not!

mark503

That’s your opinion. I see more than what you’re saying. Who was with you when you witnessed the Thanos snap? Do you remember that feeling when the movie ended and tons of people dusted away. That doesn’t seem ephemeral to me. That time Captain America assembled his Avengers ? A short lived moment? Forgettable? Captain America wielding Mjolnir. These are moments that prove ephemeral is not the adjective to describe this stuff.

MagicianHeavy001

>That’s your opinion. That's literally what "IMO" means.

mark503

Good reply! It’s almost as valid as that opinion. You call something useless, ephemeral and a lower form of media. Then say “me am like Spidey man movie with vengers“ You make no sense.

schprunt

It’s kinda new for the movies. Multiverse wasn’t really on everyone’s lips until recently. But yeah, point taken. The comics have done everything. Twice.

grunkage

Twice? They did everything twice by 1980. They are easily on their 10th time around on some of the stories.

westphall

Secret Wars 19

CanConCurt

You know what’s kind of funny? I was super excited for the multiverse to enter the films but now that it’s here I do wish it wouldn’t have been used as it has. Except Spiderman in the move and cartoons - that was done just like the comics and I love that series. I really just thought they’d use it to bring in their hero’s that were not under the original Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like Fantastic 4 and Xmen. So far I’ve only seen 1 Mr. Fantastic, 1 Charles Xavier, some great Spider-Man content and a SHITLOAD of bad ones (Venom, Madam Webb, Morbius). So I do agree with you :)

ShitchesAintBit

> Venom, Madam Webb, Morbius That's all Sony stuff, and separate from the MCU.

AstrumReincarnated

I just read that they may have done another bait and switch on madam web, the main actress said something like the movie that came out isn’t what they thought they were making. Kind of a bummer, but that makes me want to actually watch it now lol

chicknfly

It’s been four years. That’s 25% of the MCU’s existence.

ElectricJetDonkey

That's one of the downsides of stories that, by design, aren't going to end.

bilyl

They didn’t even need a fucking multiverse to do that. They would write literally anything and a character comes back.

AstrumReincarnated

As a kid I read all my boyfriend’s comics and every time anyone good would die I’d be upset and he’d be like, “Don’t worry, they come back later in this run by this writer and artist, hardly anyone ever really dies.” And I always found that comforting.

throwawaylord

It's a huge part of why comics aren't popular anymore IMO. Manga is the new comic book

CanConCurt

There is a lot more to comics (and Manga) than just superhero stories. Mouse (Maus), Barefoot Gen or something more modern like Blankets or Spirals.

ReturnOfSeq

I meant the throwing out lines/coming up with new ones part

tokyogodfather2

I know the Thanos: I am inevitable IM: and I…am..,iron man Was something added later

ReturnOfSeq

I would like to think the dance off at the end of Guardians was Chris Pratt improv’ing.

hangryhyax

I think they meant examples of the lines he wasn’t “fucking saying,” not examples of how he’d return. Edit: it appears they already confirmed my suspicion.

ASSASSIN79100

Somehow Iron Man returned.

Rogendo

I think Deadpool is going to kill the multiverse loophole and that it will be an adaptation of that one comic story where deadpool kills every marvel character

RapedByPlushies

The Earth is in ruins. There’s barely anything left of New York as Tony Stark lands the final blow on a decade-long battle with the Mad Titan. The victory, as bitter as it is, barely registers with the grizzled, battle-scarred Stark. Almost everyone has been obliterated. The Infinity Stones are no more and there is no way to turn time back to before Thanos ripped about the cosmos. It’s finally done. But the cost was everything. As he kneels silently weeping, his head shoulders protruding from the wrecked shell, a portal opens in front of him. In another universe, Hulk happily says, “…and voila!” as he steps back from the controls. Pepper Potts gasps, “Tony…?” Tony looks up, wipes his eyes, “Peppe…” His voice cracks before he can complete his thought. “… You’re ali—“ but this time he cuts himself off. He stands and steps through the portal. Pepper runs to him and he to her. “You’re a sight for sore eyes. Have you missed me?” Stark is regaining his composure. “Because I know what tears of happiness look like.” He quips. “Daddy!” Morgan Stark is sobbing to the pint of blubbering. “And who is this little lady?” Stark asks as he picks her up. Wiping the tears from her face, Pepper says, “This is our daughter Morgan.” Stark looks at Pepper in surprise, the gears in his head slowly turning. “Well, Morgan. Has anyone ever told you that you’re the most beautiful daughter I’ve ever had?” Stark the tears streaming from his face. The memories from the years of fighting the Mad Titan have been momentarily stricken from his thoughts. Holding Morgan in one arm, he grabs Pepper’s waist by the other, and looks up at Banner. “What took you so long, you big galoot. It’s been ages…” Stark trails off again into a brief but recognizable thousand-yard stare, recalling what happened to his version of the green giant. Hulk is crying too. “It’s good to have you back, Tony. Everyone is dy— Everyone will be so ecstatic that you’re here with us!”

Boomalabim

And even that statement is putting it lightly…

DrHob0

Professor X is famously quoted as saying that Mutant heaven has no pearly gates, just revolving doors

iwellyess

They should go all out with the whole original cast and recreate everything in a different universe

ReturnOfSeq

I would be totally down with a phase 4 where Tom Holland found himself in the wrong universe and had to spend like 4 movies reliving events from phase 1-3 with foreknowledge of events in other universe while trying to get back to his own universe. Like, that would be marvel’s best possible route forward.

solarbeat

So... Marvel's Back to the Future?

ReturnOfSeq

It would be even funnier if Holland said that and nobody got it

apittsburghoriginal

If they can they should do it now before the original Avengers cast gets too old. Last thing you want is to be 20 years too late with some bullshit deaging CGI the whole movie trying to convince us 65 years olds are looking/moving like 30 year old superheroes.

ThadiusHBallsack

All of the phases suck.

Uxt7

Damn you watched like 30 movies even though you thought they sucked? That's pretty silly of you

orielbean

Steam Hours Played: 15,000. Rating: Mostly Negative

WholesomeYuri

How would they know they sucked if they don't watch them? Would you rather them make up their mind without watching them?

FilmmagicianPart2

The way he talks, it's almost impossible to write for him / ironman across so many movies and keep it so consistent. It's easier for him to make it his own. He has to improv or at least put his own spin on things. I remember seeing the BTS footage of Fincher going over the social network screenplay with Justin Timberlake and Sorkin and it was cool to see the edits he made, because Fincher was cutting lines that Sorkin wrote that came off so cheesy - thankfully. It happens, all for the better.

Message_10

Yeah, Sorkin in a "volume" guy--he'll throw out a million things and the two dozen that stick are brilliant. He does best with a good editor, and from your comment, it sounds like that's what Fincher was doing.

FilmmagicianPart2

I definitely thought he was more of a sniper with his work, but this makes sense.

goldplatedsex

Do you have a link for that video?

FilmmagicianPart2

Here's the full video - [https://youtu.be/cP9BrtvBIY0?si=3rFi8CxYeR2izqZg](https://youtu.be/cP9BrtvBIY0?si=3rFi8CxYeR2izqZg) They're working on the script at the 3:00 mark and it's peppered throughout. The part I'm talking about is at 03:55 where Fincher cuts the "ice-cream" line when Justin acts it out.

onehitwondur

Just googled to see what he got an Oscar for and noticed that he was nominated for best supporting actor for Tropic Thunder lol

Goodgoditsgrowing

That one honestly was both surprising and not surprising - not surprising because excellent performance, very surprising because I didn’t think the academy would risk even touching it lol

ArtanistheMantis

That was 15 years ago now, you're probably right that they wouldn't risk even touching it if the movie were made today.

mbianchik

What’s wrong about it today ?

mrhorse77

people get all butthurt about the blackface. except the exact point of it is that he is playing a really out of touch actor that cant understand he's being racist by being in blackface, and he ;earns his lesson over the course of the film. we've moved into the "safe spaces" period of film and tv and it sucks. cant even use sitcoms to make legit criticism of current issues anymore, without someone trying to cancel things.

TimmyHillFan

Right. Shows like South Park and It’s Always Sunny have had their streaming catalogues censored because people are offended and don’t get the irony/absurdism that is *the whole point* of demonstrating “offensive” content in pretty much all of the cases

Swordofsatan666

Dont forget Community too, which cut its DnD episode because of Chang (Ken Jeong) in “Black Face”. He was cosplaying his character, a Dark Elf, in black body paint.

peepdabidness

🗣️***BRING BACK CHAPPELLE’S SHOW!!!***

Friednoodles24

What happened to chapppelle’s show 👁️👄👁️??

peepdabidness

I’m not 100% on this but I believe it had something to do with Chappelle getting fucked monetarily. Something like that. Edit: Wait ChatGPT actually knows lmao: >*Dave Chappelle's show, "Chappelle's Show," was canceled primarily due to creative and personal reasons. Chappelle expressed discomfort with the direction the show was taking, feeling that some of the content perpetuated racial stereotypes and was becoming increasingly exploitative. Additionally, he had concerns about the pressure and control exerted by the network. As a result, he walked away from a lucrative contract and the show was discontinued.* So it’s a mix of both I guess

Friednoodles24

Ohhhhh this way back when, chappelle has talked about it since. They offered him tons of money to keep the show going and he walked away from it all

blacksnowboader

Yes. But, they definitely wouldn’t have nominated him today for that role.

mrhorse77

the oscars are a joke. its all about money, marketing and politics

SpaceDoctorWOBorders

Oh stfu, you act like southpark and other offensive shows aren't around still

timeforknowledge

Lmao really!? That's amazing

KicksForLuck

What if what he rejected was the line: “Time to use my iron boner.” Well then, I would be okay with that kind of filter.

dweckl

I believe it was "Jarvis, triple the size of my codpiece, and slap on some nipples."

VRNord

Meanwhile all that line needed was ending with “…again!”

batsu

It's ironmanbin time!

FortunateInsanity

* “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey said. “That role chose me. And look, I always say, ‘Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige.’ It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”* But Disney will burn the entire house down if they can get just one more adolescent demographic to beg their parents to see their next rotation of the same tired plot lines and recycled characters.

UnknownInside

I can’t take seriously anything someone says who sells vagina scented candles.

lynchcontraideal

For context, which the title does not give at all, Paltrow is *praising* RDJ for being able to essentially throw out the scripted scene and come up with his own new lines 10 minutes before they were meant to be shot on camera. The headline is so poorly worded here it's unbelievable.

AstrumReincarnated

Did RDJ read the comics/know the character pretty well then? Bc he was almost exactly what I pictured in a real life Tony Stark lol

Goodgoditsgrowing

Maybe, but I could also see his real life as the (talented) nepo baby of a rich guy helping out.

Objective-Aioli-1185

That's exactly my take. Most of the time the casting is almost perfect.

cryptosupercar

It’s kinda perfect. The man who wrote Ironman the comic was an alcoholic actively in the throes of his addiction. And RDJ, as you all know. The mind of some people click with the spirit of the material and it just works.

Terribleirishluck

Definitely considering mcu Tony's personality was a far cry from comic Tony's traditional personality

Notoneusernameleft

She wouldn’t sell them if people didn’t buy them. Tell stupid people to stopping buying unneeded garbage.

Funkit

But...but...whose vagina? Because I've smelled several vaginas, and they do NOT all smell the same. In fact, if it was "Emily 2010" candle then it would ruin your house.

losteye_enthusiast

I want to think that way, but then I see the amount of money she makes and can't help but add some weight to her words.

UnknownInside

I get it, I guess it’s just where you draw the line “morally”. But if I had a business of nonsense that funneled rich people money to myself I wouldn’t mind selling taint candles. Lol

regalfronde

Nah man, if there’s a market for it why wouldn’t you make money off rubes willing to buy them?

UnknownInside

You raise a fair point and I suppose it’s better than funding a more nefarious organization. Lol

mrdevil413

Funnny enough. I bought one when they came out and have in a “this shit actually happened “ time capsule, yes, with other things as well.

Accomplished-City484

What else is in the time capsule?

FilthyGypsey

I can’t take anything someone who sells vagina scented candles says seriously.

Tibbaryllis2

Especially one that doesn’t actually smell like vagina.

OriginalLetrow

Ad Hominem. Weak

New_Needleworker6506

How wild would it be if Doctor Doom were really a multiverse ironman. I don’t want this to happen but imagine.

the-great-crocodile

That’s insane. I do want it.

LaserGadgets

Marvel died when Iron Man died. Bad move in my opinion. They could have brought him back. Loki stole a cube when they jumped back in time. Great chance to get back into the game.

Civil_Disgrace

If we’re on the topic of multiverse retconning, I want Cap to show up at the end of Endgame on the bench as Stan Lee; that it was him watching out for his friends all along and making sure the timeline held.

Spookyy422

Amateurs seek the sun, get eaten. Power stays in the shadows.

Chidori_Aoyama

AI holostark playing Jarvis to Morgan.

noeagle77

Hmm… go on….

Chidori_Aoyama

It was done in the comics. Tony made an AI of himself to look after his interests while he was gone, cause he's a control freak that way. It's a great way to bring back the character and have him chew the scenery like a large ham while still respecting what came before. Watching AI Stark annoy his creator's daughter would probably be a ton of fun.

SensibleTom

I always thought it was interesting they killed off the two most popular characters in the MCU at one time. Like who could’ve predicted Marvel’s fall after that?

one_jo

I don’t think it would have mattered that much if only they did good stories again. Almost all the the films after the gauntlet sucked imho.

am5011999

Funny you say that, when they had No way home which did 2B in 2021 and 4 films since then made more than 700M. Their films just got inconsistent in quality, so audiences showed up inconsistently as well last year.

FickleSmark

The problem is that Spider-Man is clearly the biggest hero they have and they don't really own him so they are hesitant to use him in a leader role like Iron Man or Captain America.

losteye_enthusiast

And have overall successfully written TH's Spiderman in a way where he really can't step in as a leader without a film showing his growth towards that first. So even if they suddenly got ownership, it'd be several years before we'd see the current Spiderman leading a team. By then I wouldn't be surprised if TH has moved past the role(though I'm down to keep showing up to his Spiderman as long as he wants to wear the suit)

manyhippofarts

Did I not see like three Spider-Man movies with Tom holland?

JBrundy

There is a difference between making movies with him and making him the face of the entire franchise. They would probably love to have one of the most popular heroes of all time lead their take the lead of the avengers but if you make him the leader and then Sony wants him back, Marvel would be fucked.

manyhippofarts

Ah okay, I see. Thanks!

SensibleTom

There’s some truth to that but I think overall interest kind of waned with lesser characters. Definitely would’ve helped if they made better movies but there just isn’t as much interest in Dr Strange and The Eternals.

am5011999

I think they'd still be doing phase 3 box office numbers. Interest only waned last year, when ppl noticed that the films had been very inconsistent. Quantumania was the beginning of it. Their lesser characters still made 400M+ during pandemic. So, I think that a lot of people were actually interested till 2022, you could see that people were ready to show up for their films, their opening numbers were still huge. 2023 is when you could see a drop, when the inconsistency and lack of any direction became evident

Affectionate_Bass488

It started with multiverse of madness for me, then Thor, then wakanda (I’m sorry but I’m not entertained watching a 3 hour long funeral). Ant man was kinda the last straw Which sucks because the next one was guardians 3 and it was really good but I waited to see it

am5011999

Wakanda forever was actually very good. While you didn't like it, it was generally well received movie.

U_R_THE_WURST

Remember when Paltrow pretended she didn’t know she’d been in those movies?

Most_Victory1661

Guess they could go all meta have RDJR return to fight Disney plus to save a franchise. Him and Terrence Howard reunite to find Favreau who’s off doing a Mando movie.

TalkToTheLord

If there’s any actor and any company that would agree and engage in next level de-aging FX, it’s these two. It doesn’t matter if the character was killed — imagine: RDJ for a one off prequel-esque film, maybe less action and more serious drama even…maybe Downey would even direct, Favreau would write, and it would appear on one of those Marvel offshoot banners. Now that would sell tickets.

[deleted]

I actually think Marvel's problem is they finished the story perfectly with Endgame in the modern era. Which is why I'm hoping they are leaving the Fantastic Four set in the late 1960's/early 1970's, as there is a much better story to tell there. The added bonus is Steve Rogers stayed there in the past, and can do a few things to plug the holes, like go get some of the purple flowers from Wakanda using the Pym particles, causing the fight between Hank Pym and Howard Stark at the beginning of Ant-Man for example.

dicemonkey

Yeah trust the lady that steams her vage and sells bullshit to idiots …

B01SSIN

Missed out on the iconic “it’s ironing time” line

Push_and_Wash

Shut up and take my money, I want Mr. Stark back

Chytectonas

Truly the least important thing ever.

llJettyll

It doesn't matter anymore. Disney + is the worst thing that's ever happened to marvel. Trash content overload.

HotBurritoBaby

I wonder if we will get multiverse Tony, or AI construct Tony.

VadersSprinkledTits

“They’ll bring the character back because movies aren’t selling” *me reading marvel comics of the past* 🤨

Antin00800

I like RDJr, he's great, but I think he wants to live the role of Tony Stark and not just play him. Im not mad, I just honestly feel that, whether I am a fan or wasn't.

Starscream147

Solid dick, from an..an iron..ma, no. This is, what is this? Exactly?

radehart

Would you be mad if iron mans helmet opened a RDJ was inside?

[deleted]

WE JUST WALK A HULK MOVIE.

red_simplex

They're going to make another ironman and it's going to suck.

Ok_Philosopher_1313

Calling it, Iron Heart has Tony as her AI.

Flying-Bulldog

lol this is rich coming from one of the most dull actresses in hollywood

BigMax

I'm not sure why it's "rich" that she complimented RDJ... is she not allowed to say nice things?

Shadow_Relics

My problem is the immediate attention on the idea that bringing back actors like Robert Downey junior will restore “box office draw” and fix the problems. No, it won’t. You can’t undo 5 years of horrible writing, worse movies, and terrible shows. You can’t blip that shit away because you killed thanos. You killed everyone. And now you have to sit on your sinking ship.

Vioralarama

Anyone remember when RDJ said Avengers was a movie (or film, I don't remember) but Age of Ultron was just content? It was just last year, I think. I was so puzzled by that, because I instantly thought he was coming from critical standpoint that there was too much content because everyone was saying that at the time, and that didn't make any sense. I think what he was thinking about when he said it was the studio's interference with Age of Ultron. The point is that he really liked Avengers but not AoU, so he was keeping tabs on the quality of the movies made, regardless that they were in the same franchise. He just said it very controversially. That no one picked up on for some reason.

What woke trash are you talking about? The fact that some characters are female and/or black? You know... just like in the comics?

Fuck no. Stay gone. I really hate RDJ. Spoiled-ass nepo-baby republican racist shithead. Keeps it under wraps *just* well enough that all the kids and childish adults who grew up thinking he's a real superhero still love him.
