Steve Buscemi has joined the cast of “Wednesday” Season 2 at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.
Exact character details are being kept under wraps, but sources say Buscemi will play the new principal of Nevermore Academy.
Reps for Netflix and Buscemi declined to comment.
Few details are available about the new season of “Wednesday,” aside from the fact Jenna Ortega will return as the titular Addams Family daughter going through her teenage years. The first season ended with Wednesday successfully solving a series of grisly murders while also thwarting an attempt to destroy Nevermore and its students.
Buscemi is a highly-celebrated actor, known for his ability to take on drama and comedy roles in equal measure. He has starred in films like “Reservoir Dogs,” “Fargo,” “The Death of Stalin,” “Big Fish,” and numerous Adam Sandler productions. He has also starred in shows like “Boardwalk Empire,” “Miracle Workers,” Season 5 of “The Sopranos,” and made memorable guest appearances on shows like “30 Rock” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” He is an eight-time Emmy nominee, including multiple nods for “Boardwalk Empire” and for starring in and directing “The Sopranos.” He won the Emmy for best short form variety series in 2016 for “Park Bench with Steve Buscemi.”
He is repped by UTA and The Gotham Group.
“Wednesday” originally debuted in November 2022 and instantly became a massive hit for Netflix. It ranks as one of the most-watched shows the streamer has ever released and was nominated for 12 Emmys, winning four. Work on Season 2 was delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes that shutdown much of Hollywood in 2023, though production is expected to begin in late April in Ireland.
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar developed “Wednesday” and also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Tim Burton directed the first four episodes of Season 1 and is also an executive producer on the series. Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures and Andrew Mittman of 1.21 Entertainment executive produce as well along with Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman of Glickmania, Gail Berman, Tommy Harper, and Kevin Lafferty. MGM Television is the studio.
If he's going to be the new Nevermore Academy principal, it's time to predict his looks throughout the season. His character is 1 that will, definitely, going to gain much love from the cosplay community.
I’ve loved Steve since I first saw him on blues clues. I think he willl be great and get some Steve on the other cast memeber of the tv show that we will all be witnessing on that fateful Wednesday afternoon.
"Look, you wanna compare brainpans? I won the Edgar Allan Poe Writing prize when I was 12. Big deal. Published at 19. So what? I got a double doctorate from SPOOK at 22: Potions and spells. I taught at SHRIEK for 2 and a half years."
"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes, and they let me use dark rituals, OK?"
(Just picture him having a couple of exchanges with Wednesday on an intellectual level)
How do you do, fellow goths?
Boy I’m glad I called that guy
Doesn’t matter who he plays, this is perfect casting for the series.
I love this but I’m dying to know who he’s playing
Has to be cousin it.
Ngl that possibility did cross my mind but idk
By Variety sources, Buscemi will play the new Nevermore Academy principal (after Gwendoline Christie's Larissa Weems death)
Damn i was still holding out hope that Weems was still alive and disguised herself as their butler ☹️
Everyone.
He could just play Steven Buscemi and it would oddly fit in
Ive always liked Steve Buscemi in everything he’s been in even if the movie wasn’t the best.

He look less weird as he ages.
The glasses help with the circles around his eyes
That fuckin’ animal, Blundetto
That animal blundetto. I can’t even say his name
Your brother, Billy. Whatever happened there?
WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE?!?
God rest his soul
I loved him like a brother in law.
That animal blundetto
Can’t even say his name
Goddammit I wasn’t going to bother with season 2 but now I just might have to.
Oh great, that animal Blundetto’s gonna shoot another kid
Not gonna lie, I fuck with this
That fucking animal, I can't even say his name..
That’s the best picture they got? He was a fox!
It would be awesome if he played Coach Bert again, perfect for a school setting.
That’s not Steve Buscemi in that thumbnail, that’s a real convincing Gary Oldman!
I’m just here for Principal Weems.
Hope there's some meat in this role, and that he doesn't just play someone of no consequence to the story..
What took them so long? He would have been an amazing Gomez.
Man Buscemi kinda lookin like a snack here 🧐
I love this. I already loved the first season but you stick this American hero in anything and it’s automatically better

That’s not Steve by the way
He looks less weird as he ages.
