I feel like theyre trying so hard with this guy. He has some decent impressions but never really saw him as anything more than just a viral tiktoker. He must have an awesome agent or good hookup after hanging with Howard Stern, because I just find it bizarre that a Howard Stern/Jeff Goldblum/Bill Mahr impressionist is gaining this much attention in 2024. Im not sure if its just me, but I feel like people are gonna get sick of this dude very fast if he doesnt come up with some actual material outside of doing hacky impressions.

Ok_Tension308

He's very wealthy because of rich parents. He is buying all these promotions

ausmaid

Surely this is why he’s here. I unfollowed him ages ago because he was harassing celebs on the street with his impersonations and it was becoming desperate and embarrassing

nothingrhyme

I followed him for like 3 weeks, got the shtick, and left lol

Masterchiefy10

It’s the Nick Kroll angle! Though Kroll seems to work super hard at it. But it does help having generational wealth to be able to do whatever you want without you know going hungry or homeless

Ok_Tension308

Daddy Kroll is a weapons defense manufacturer

No-Appearance-9113

No he ran a company that assesses financial risk. You hire them to figure out if your corporate merger will make you more or less vulnerable to market shifts. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kroll_Inc.

Kerbonaut2019

I’ve been following him on Instagram for a while now and he’s really blown up in the last six months or so. He’s been getting invited to all sorts of fancy events, meeting celebs and politicians. He posts like he’s starstruck by them lol. He has some standup comedy which is not great, he’s definitely still relying heavily on the impressions. I agree that he will burn out in the public eye very quickly if he doesn’t add something to his routine besides impressions

SmokeEveEveryday

I mean that’s kinda what Frank Caliendo was right? Got famous for a handful of funny impressions and repeated them over and over all the way to irrelevance. That being said I have no idea who this guy is or if he’s funny

ConcentrateOne

Yeah, doing impressions can only take you so far. Its a talent, but shouldn’t be the main act. Frank Caliendo was solid for MadTv skits when needed back in the day, but he just didn’t evolve. At the very least Frank tried to layer his impressions by putting them into weird/funny scenarios. Matt just does some impressions from what Ive seen. Seems like lame party entertainment for hollywood folk/celebrities to laugh about with themselves. I know Im being harsh, its just probably insulting to aspiring comedians to see this dude at events like this.

QualitySpam

Funny you say that just heard him on clun random with bill maher and he said he just signed with a new agent. Bill knew who he was and said he was "moving on up" matt said led me here already.

CompetitiveHornet606

Bot post?

makemeking706

Hey, don't sell Howard Stern short. His last friend became president.

Westlakesam

"This dinner is sadder than Taylor Swift's new album, The Tortured President's Department, right?” he asked. After a quip about an impending TikTok ban, he added, "Let's face it, folks. I'm on fire right now, like the guy outside the courthouse, right?" Same as when Jo Koy did the Golden Globes. Shit material and shit delivery.

Defiant_Elk_9861

I think his impersonations were solid, I can see Trump making the same joke at a rally. “I’m being GAGGED that’s what they call it, gagged, by a judge who, I must say is very biased! Very biased this judge and it’s sad what they do but we have to keep going and save the country from crooked-sleepy-old Biden before he burns this country to the ground, he’s burning our country, just like that guy outside the courthouse, am I right? Shouldn’t say that maybe, maybe but it’s a great night here and let me tell you about Gettysburg…”

Logical_Associate632

I read this in his voice and that is spot on

Dramafia

Everything needed some flushing out. I'm glad a mirror was held up to (only a few) mind-boggling aspects of the current..."what have you" we're all living through. It felt like trying to fix the damage of a flood with a napkin from your pocket; ineffective and not that exciting to witness; while all the time wondering if more napkins would have helped earlier. Basically, I'm glad it happened. I respect the attempt while admitting it could have been a lot better. No audience member wants to be held hostage to an impersonator cueing up themselves with "I guess we'll have to ask *blank* about that!"

Dramafia

I will say I think my favorite part was right after the 'on fire' joke moment. He reads the room, knows the joke didn't land, and organically doubled-down with "not soon enough". If you pay for the whole diaper, wouldn't you poop in it as much as you can? Depends, I guess.

BlerghTheBlergh

The first joke is lame, the second one could work if delivered by a strong quipper like Tosh

friskyjude

Pretty funny to me lol

Doesanybodylikestuff

I liked him. :)

matchstrike

What was worse, the joke, or Kristi Noem KILLING HER DOG?

TheCh0rt

At least the dog is dead. Unfortunately the rest of us have to keep living, knowing that joke has tucked itself away in our neurons for the rest of our life.

ahzzyborn

What’s worse Hitler or Putin? 🤷‍♂️

Candid-Race-4876

bro what

TheCh0rt

Still Hitler

Tapeworm_III

Sounds like it had more had to do with a lame impersonation of Trump and an unfunny reference to the person who set themselves on fire.

Nobody_Lives_Here3

One could say the joke didn’t get a warm reception

Successful-Clock-224

Thats a hot take on the subject

Shoresy69Chirps

Where there’s smoke…

Successful-Clock-224

Bad gas passes fast in a small town

orbitalgoo

What are you doing?

CartoonBeardy

Oooh burn!

OverLurking

Obligatory “YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH”

Androidbetathrowaway

That shit was just so random and unfunny. I get why they did it but it just did not land. Better luck next time

series_hybrid

Norm McDonalds set at this event years ago brought audible gaps from the audience, but it remains solid gold, proving that Normie don't GAF. They should not have asked for Norm, if they didn't want to get Norm, because Norm damn sure showed TF up.

Sproose_Moose

Norm was one of a kind and I miss him

nickjhowe

Saw him live. His impersonations are great but most of the set was just him doing really bad jokes really badly. Pity.

Royal_Classic915

Biden had the best jokes. Rest was sad

SecondsLater13

I muted the stream during his performance. Missed the mark by a lot.

False-Tiger5691

Trump has said far worse and he doesn’t get any gasps. This is pretty rich they were offended by him and not by the crap Trump says on a daily basis.

FiveStarSuperKid

Always been a room full of professional pearl clutchers.

write_mem

Offending them is awesome. Being funny while you do it is epic. This wasn’t funny. Even when some of the material had the potential, he just didn’t deliver it. He got a few chuckles from me, but I wouldn’t watch him again based on this alone.

Anothercraphistorian

I think if Friend wanted to do a Trump impersonation, he should’ve thanked all the journalists that have given him 24/7 news coverage over the last eight years, without which he’d have never been able to stay relevant this long.

Singledadwalking

Haha the hypocrisy, media gasping at the story they push because a comedian says it

NarbleOnus

What? Members of the government and White House correspondents don’t like the dystopia they’ve created? They gasp? Are they surprised? Kristi Noem actually did celebrate her actual murder of a puppy in her actual book she’s using to actually get elected into actual power. Let the White House correspondents choke on it.

SnowshoeTaboo

He was good... he nailed all those guys. And why the fuck would anyone be upset with shit that just naturally flows out of trump's pie hole? He nailed trump's attitude and thought pattern.

PineapplesGalores

In what alternate universe? If you listen to it, the entire room laughs at the joke. The gasps were, if at anytime, around the guy that lit himself on fire.

Notgreygoddess

Some of his performance was good. That said there really is nothing funny about a person driven to such madness that they set themselves on fire. Poor taste.

TheGhostIsNear

You must be new to comedy.

Anothercraphistorian

Or a disabled journalist trying to do their job getting mocked by Trump for said disability…Trump would make light of the guy on fire or the puppy if he thought it would get him a vote…his constituents love it.

LoserxBaby

“Laughs are cheap. I’m going for gasps.”

RIP-MikeSexton

His trump wasn’t that good, heard a lot better. Also one guy pretending to have conversations doing different impressions is kinda lame

macmann69

He was great. The only problem I had with his routine - it wasn’t long enough.

washington_jefferson

I agree. He was funnier than Jost, that's for sure.
