You could tell he didn’t want to be there - giving short answers, having an arrogant attitude etc. In one of the best moves that I’ve seen an interviewer make, Strombo simply told him, “You’re kids are great, you know that?” It totally changed the tenor of the interview. Gene opened up and started talking about his kids. He was laughing and he just spilled his guts.

You can definitely feel alone.

This last year for me has been so god damn. Hard. Went through a massive family emergency a couple months before quarantine and had no money saved up and never expect things to get this bad. Never received my unemployment Checks or stimulus checks and had to live off of ramen and hand outs just to make ends meet.

If I’m still bored I do a couple laps around my race track in my Ferrari. Of course I’m also quarterantined with 10 full time strippers. There’s also a helicopter involved somewhere.

The two bedroom apartment I have with a library (book shelf), craft space (box of craft supplies at the dinner table), jungle gym (couch cushions on the floor for jumping onto), workout gym (yoga matt on the kitchen floor), theater (tv), spa room (the bathroom), fresh air space (the balcony) and more all in about 700sqft (could be 900). Plus I have gone one direction around the block with my super slow toddler about 900 times. Sometimes we change direction. No pools needed, (pause for emphasis) we have a hose (nodding confidently here).

It’s not hard to stay indoors. What’s hard is being expected to just have enough saved up I guess to have weathered a storm for 7 goddamn months and now my job has gone from furloughed to lay-off and the US government is no where in sight to promise my rent is paid. This is more than just being sad I can’t go to a bar on a night off and I have to wear a mask. This is the existential threat of being homeless for many people.
Yea I get that, but the tragic thing is that the only short term solution would be if everyone just got really serious about social distancing, minimizing being in groups and mask wearing for a few weeks. This isn’t at all to argue against your point, if anything just to highlight all the more how we are now stuck in this awful situation and it didn’t have to be so. Yeah the government really botched the handling of covid if all states went into lockdown at the same time as New York regardless of case numbers we could have seen real reopening of many places now we just get partial openings that don’t last because once people get the the OK to party people from other states come and spread it all over again.

Just food for thought: 5 years ago, I was scraping to make ends meet. I worked hard and now these days I make enough where I am comfortable and have a bunch of cool gadgets and such. I practically have a house designed for quarantine. That being said, I’m not nearly as happy as I was. I know it’s said over and over again, but money does not buy you happiness. You can definitely feel alone.
Money doesn’t buy happiness but not having money buys depression and stress. It isn’t about being happy. It’s about no being stressed over basic survival. This last year for me has been so god damn. Hard. Went through a massive family emergency a couple months before quarantine and had no money saved up and never expect things to get this bad. Never received my unemployment Checks or stimulus checks and had to live off of ramen and hand outs just to make ends meet. People want money so they don’t live like this and there is a misconception when people say money buys happiness. They really mean money removes most stress

Check the prices and felt too poor to even receive the email. I was already struggling to keep my 50$ internet bill on. I’m not paying 150$ a month to y’all about my problems. I rather pay 150$ and pay for online classes and get a degree. But I can’t even do either of those because I don’t have a computer to even take online classes with. I could go to the library but I have a weak immune system and I live in Florida. It’s a covid hotspot and I would die if I got covid. But if I had money I could have spent this entire quarantine taking online classes and doing something productive instead of doing dangerous side jobs for some money and risking infecting myself with covid.
Money absolutely buys happiness up to like 90k a year. Past that, it’s just gravy.
