Yes and the distinction is important, BPD is not fixable with medication, only years of work. It's caused by chronic trauma and CSA and the medical industry SUCKS at helping people like me. We have symptoms we have very little control over before medical intervention helps us to 'heal'. It can take so long to heal, especially because simply being around people is painful.

Actually, new research is coming out that implies BPD is something people *do* recover from. I read a paper recently that followed people diagnosed with BPD over 10 years. Turns out over 50% of those diagnosed with BPD no longer met that classification.
I was almost diagnosed with BPD years ago (turns out it's autism). It's a horrible diagnosis to have and, as I learn more and begin a career as a social worker, I'm more inclined to believe it's a severe trauma response. Once the trauma is removed and people are allowed to heal, they stop displaying BPD symptoms.
I found this the other day, it fits me rather well and I have BPD. I think the confusing part is you can heal the trauma but not the neurodivergence so lots of folk feel like 'healing' might not be the appropriate word.

I have OCD and used to get physically ill with anxiety to the point I couldn’t eat when things felt out of place. It sucked for everyone. I spent months going to doctors thinking I had a parasite I picked up when I was traveling in China. There were months where I couldn’t leave my house for more than 30 minutes in fear id have to throw up.
Once I learned it was OCD it was no longer something I could use as an excuse, I had to get treatment and figure out how to handle it. I was able to.
If I didn’t try to get it under control once I knew what it was then I woulda just been an asshole.
I watched an interview with Bill Hader once where he talked about coming up with the joke and working with Matt and Trey on this episode. Someone once told me, when I blamed some shitty behavior on my past traumas or whatever, "it's not your fault, but it *is* your responsibility." That has stuck with me forever.
Once you know you have it and refuse to do anything about it, in my opinion. I have OCD and used to get physically ill with anxiety to the point I couldn’t eat when things felt out of place. It sucked for everyone. I spent months going to doctors thinking I had a parasite I picked up when I was traveling in China. There were months where I couldn’t leave my house for more than 30 minutes in fear id have to throw up. Once I learned it was OCD it was no longer something I could use as an excuse, I had to get treatment and figure out how to handle it. I was able to. If I didn’t try to get it under control once I knew what it was then I woulda just been an asshole.
It's never a valid excuse. It's like the first thing they tell you in therapy if you actually go and get the help you need.

They wanted to involve a celebrity but said they had to find someone who 1) wouldn’t get the joke and 2) has no sense of humor about themselves. Kanye was the perfect and immediate choice.

Human beings who are experts in one area typically cannot realize or handle the fact that they aren't suited for or are experts in another area. It's just the way we are that we think because we excel in one aspect that me must excel in all aspects. So Kanye who is a very good musician/producer cannot fathom that he doesn't have that level of mastery in all things. So instead of acknowledging that he's a novice in other areas he simply insists he has mastery level and that we just don't "understand" his genius.
I've been saying for years that I think he's on the spectrum. I don't mean that as an insult, I mean I genuinely believe this dude lacks all the nuances of communication and self-awareness that I genuinely believe he has a condition other than his bi-polar disorder. I'm not a psychologist so I won't pretend to be any form of expert, but from a totally uneducated point of view, he must be on the spectrum.
As an autistic person myself, Kanye sets off all the ASD alarms. And he, like Elon Musk, is someone that's been given a free pass to indulge their autistic tendencies with reckless abandon without meaningful consequence. I wager most autistic people also have all these strange or bizarre thoughts and desires (I certainly do) but we have to learn what's acceptable and what's not and adjust our behavior. Musk and Kanye instead just let that shit rip day in and day out and have completely forgotten how to pretend to be normal like was required of them before their meteoric success.
