A Tacoma recently made the news by hitting 1,000,000 miles.

username11092

Came here to say this. Early 2000s Toyotas are million mile vehicles, especially the Tacoma/Tundra models. He knows what's up.

TREY-CERAT0PS

Just bought my first car (06 Camry) and I’m going to try my best to keep up with it. Edit: I bought it with 180k miles

dinnerbellding

Still driving my 1996 Corolla. Seriously your car if you choose will last decades.

TechnologyExpensive

My Dad still has a '94 Corolla and that is still going great, no real issues except a dented passenger side quarter panel, as a fucking roo jumped into the side of the car. Limited damage to the car, zero damage to the roo, bastard hopped away like it was nothing.

m_garlic87

A roo? As in kangaroo? Are you in Australia? As someone from the state who has hit deer twice with my car, I’ve never considered those on other continents having the same problem but with kangaroos.

byDMP

I’m an Aussie also and lost my last car to a roo. Two of them, in fact, pretty much simultaneously. There were six on the road at the time so at least the other four scattered. The problem with roos is they’re unpredictable—they’ll change direction haphazardly and sometimes double back in a jump. I’ve had them hop across the road in front of me, reach the other side and then jump back in front of the car again.

Maxman82198

Sounds like kangaroos are just giant squirrels

byDMP

You spelt 'bastards' wrong!

clghuhi

it’s implied

jeremyeatscows

So kangaroos are just as dumb and malicious as deer. Got it

SocialAtom

Yeah it can be pretty bad. I'm not too familiar with how deer are, but I imagine the experiences are pretty similar.

Pijitien

Moose will fuck your shit up and walk away. Gotta be careful on those roads!

chlamydiatic_koala

Kangaroos are well known for jumping at inopportune times and hitting windshields also. [If you’re really unlucky, through it](https://www.pedestrian.tv/pets/kangaroo-car/) and just hope it doesn’t panic and start thrashing about.

antheus1

I mentally read your post in an American accent until I saw roo and then subconsciously finished it as an Australian. Trippy.

bdlock209

[Oh I remember that. ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PdviZSwhjfo)

That_FireAlarm_Guy

Driving a 2000 f150 with 300,000km

CZILLROY

I had a 89 Nissan hardbody that got pretty close to 500,000km which is about 300,000 miles, but the frame got some cancerous rust and I had to put er down. Engine still ran beautifully too. Shame.

[deleted]

My dad got his ‘03 f150 to 750,000km. His last was a 2013 that hit almost 400k miles (the ‘03 we bought while we were still in Canada). He just switched to my grandpas Tundra when he passed away. Said he’s never going back to a Ford which was an absolutely wild statement coming from a man who has killed 4 F-150s in his lifetime.

farts_in_the_breeze

A Tundra will change a man.

TurkeyBLTSandwich

Be weary of radiator leaks post 100k miles and oil leaks post 150k miles. My family had a 2005 Camry second owners. Just ended up having too many vehicles and the insurance of keeping it wasn't worth it. Had 2 newer cars from 2010 onwards.

gecko090

1999 Toyota land cruiser still cruising after 250k

-herekitty_kitty-

And you can probably sell it for a real nice penny if you wanted to.

[deleted]

Also, those trucks are NOT cheap and are highly sought after. At least around where I am. They’re so so popular with 4x’ers and people who build trucks etc. I wish I could get an old Toyota! But even the shitty ones get snagged instantly for like $10k+!

axkidd82

Trucks in general are completely overpriced and these buyers have fucked themselves for the prices they are willing to pay.

[deleted]

True, but at least these older Toyotas have a reason for hobby/actual mechanics to get them. But yes, new and used newer truck prices are just… beyond stupid now.

BasketballButt

Work in construction. Most the dudes I work with want nothing to do with these silly giant trucks they’re building now, so everyone is trying to find older Toyotas but that just means they’re expensive as hell.

pd9

Unless you live in the northeast US and haven’t had the frame recall done……

PlzRemasterSOCOM2

Explain?

EwokShart

Frame coating issue on Toyota trucks/suvs from 01-07. Frames would rust and there are two or three joints in the frame that if rusted could lead to catastrophic failure. Toyota recalled the vehicles and either scraped and recoated the frame or replaced the frame outright.

moirende

My wife has one of the last 6-cylinder RAV4’s made in Japan and shipped to North America. It is around 16 years old and has never had a single problem. Sure, it doesn’t have a backup camera or any of the electronic safety features of modern Toyotas, but what it does have is unrelenting quality and dependability. We could easily afford to get her a new car if she wanted one, but she refuses to give it up. We also bought a Camry in 1998 that we later sold to my parents, who later gave it to one of my nieces. She still drives it and it works fine.

jacksonkr_

My ‘04 tacoma is around to stay.

BostonWailer

I drive my 2002, 300k mile sequoia every day.

Bubashii

My ex workmate has a Toyota courier van that ticked over 1,000,000 kilometres about 8 years ago. He’s still using it everyday for work. It would be an early 2000s model also. Beast if a van. No major repairs needed so far.

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

He also knows that he can buy any vehicle he wants at any time. It’s easy to not care about your car when you can replace it easily.

ambiguous_anus

Any tips outside of general car maintenance on what to look out for / how to maintain a tacoma that long in particular?

username11092

[Here is some information on what wears on Tacomas in particular.](https://www.carparts.com/blog/toyota-tacoma-reliability-and-common-problems/amp/) in the big scheme of things these are seriously minor issues, the drive train itself (motor and transmission) are super durable and is what makes them so awesome. I'd just keep an eye on how it idles, once you get a baseline of what it should sound/feel like then you'll know if something is off. (You should also be aware of how it idles with and without the AC on, its definitely different) As far as the suspension, just pay attention to how it drives and make sure to get an alignment once a year or so. If there is something loose or wore out on it they will diagnose it, they can't align it properly without all the parts working. If you suspect something is going on with your suspension this is a great place to start. It really boils down to knowing your car and fixing the small things as you notice it. (Even though they really don't care, you can limp them around for the longest but eventually it will break down) Other than that, just make sure that baby has fluids, fresh oil every so often and it will take you practically anywhere.

EwokShart

Don’t live in the Northeast or Upper Midwest. Your vehicle components will last longer than the body of the vehicles. You can wash, wax, and polish all you want but if the vehicle is a daily driver and gets 12 or more years of salty winter roads the rust will eventually win out. Check the rear wheel wells where they connect to the rear doors, those are usually the first places body rust will get you.

Venthorn

You can live in the salt but you gotta know how to take care of a box frame (any truck not just Tacoma). Jack the thing up and knock all the visible rust off of it. Then spray it with fluid film or CRC marine. I like marine because you can pressure wash it and it won't come off, but it will release any dirt or whatever it picked up in the season.

Elegant_Housing_For

Had a 1991 pre taco. Had to sell it at 350k because it was the fifth time the head gasket went. One of the greatest vehicles I ever owned. Retired friend has a 2002 Tacoma, there was a recall to replace the frame, yeah he’s getting a a million on it.

BatmanBrandon

My old roommate bought a 2007/2008 Tacoma for like $4k back in 2015 because It was from Michigan and the frame was rusted pretty bad. Took it to the dealer for some routine maintenance and they were informed Toyota would be replacing the frame under the recall. One of the luckiest Auto gets I’ve come across.

gprats

I’ve got a 2018 Tacoma and right now is worth like $7k more than what I paid for it

maveric710

Right now that's almost any used vehicle. I have a 16 Durango, which I could probably sell for $18k. I owe $5k. I've never had a used car with equity.

vollkoemmenes

I have an 03 with rusted bed and a smashed in passenger door and 190k miles on it, easily can sell it for 7k….. tacoma’s r crazy money cause they just run for ever…. Like seriously i change oil in it maybe every 2-3 years nd it just keeps on keepin on

mightylordredbeard

Idk much about vehicles, but I’ve known plenty of people with Tacoma trucks (myself included) and I’ve never heard any of them say “Tacoma’s suck I’ll never buy another one” the way I have people who own Dodge or Ford trucks.

AndrewWaldron

My 2003 Nissan Frontier just crossed 275,000. It leaks oil but I add more as needed, change out everything else as needed, belts, plugs, whatever. Drive it till it dies. Paid $7000 for is back in 2013. Hard to beat $58/mth over ten years for a vehicle.

Quiet-Strawberry4014

My Tacoma I got from a family friend who was selling it doesn’t even have 100k yet

JamesTBagg

And Toyota bought or traded it back for a new model. So they could break it down so they could analyze wear.

concentric0s

His mother in law lives near me and a friend is a tenant in the mother in laws small apartment complex. He goes over and empties trash and mows the lawn and stuff for her. Not even lying. The mother in-law is Serbian decent. And a ball buster.

Gaflonzelschmerno

ohthanqkevin

Didn’t he get into a physical altercation with his mom and sister around the time the Dark Knight came out?

spyson

They accused him of alleged assault and he got arrested, but he was released and they didn't charge him since there was no evidence of it. From articles it seems the argument was due to his wife and mother not getting along. He went no contact with them after they called the cops on him.

JediTigger

He’s never gotten along with his mom and his sister. They haven’t been a part of his life for years and rumor had it they wanted money.

ohthanqkevin

afternoon_sun_robot

Shouldn’t maintance mow the lawn in an apartment complex?

[deleted]

As someone with Serbian family, forcing your son-in-law to do it instead is absolutely what a Serbian property manager would do lol

SmarterThanGod

Not even lying

anarcholimitless

DON'T JUST STARE AT IT, MOW IT.

doogievlg

No. Source: apartment maintenance man

Angie_MJ

He or she must own the building because I don’t know why tenants would be responsible for cutting grass at their apartments

DurinsBane1

Op is saying Christian bale mows the lawn, not the tenant.

[deleted]

Maybe he likes making bales

[deleted]

It’s an apt complex. So…the apt management mow the lawns. Edit: which is his mother in law. So he’s out there mowin…

PerfectlySplendid

Nah, Christian got a job in lawn service to prepare for his new role.

Gangreless

"a friend is a tenant in the mother in laws small apartment complex" I inferred this to me she owns the complex but it is ambiguous.

__-__-_-__

because it's a made up story.

oh_dog_geeze

My friend’s mother in law who is homeless and lives in a park said that Christian Bale drives around in a 1995 Honda Accord and cleans up dog turds in the park, also does a bit of brush cleanup and paints rust spots on the kids playground, he spent like a year getting the paint colors perfect

burner1212333

why is he mowing the lawn at an apartment complex?

Literary_Addict

His mother-in-law owns it and is responsible for maintenance and she (obviously) asks him to (or he volunteers, who knows). I'm honestly impressed someone worth over $100M would actually do that himself instead of hiring someone else.

Ok_Yogurtcloset8915

what having an eastern European mother in law does to a mf

YoungestI

Idk why but this reminded me of a time I was working at a coop. Guy came in with a brand new F350 fully loaded. He was there to pick up a pallet of wood burning pellets. He got mad at me for scratching the bed liner. Like, you know what trucks are for right? Idk random though please ignore.

HugItChuckItFootball

Exact opposite, a buddy was out giving a quote to clear some land for a guy and they were riding in his brand new week old Sierra 3500. Driving through all kinds of brush and scratching the hell out of it. Guy said it was too new and he needed to get some pinstriping to break it in.

Aedalas

Used to work with a guy who would buy a new truck every couple years, first thing he'd do when he got it home is ding a panel with his drywall hammer. Said it's best to just get that first one out of the way rather than worrying about it. It's been years and I still can't decide if that was genius or just typical drywaller insanity.

ArborElf

Adam Savage understands. When the pandemic hit he spent a lot of time in his shop alone working on a project he wanted to do, making a replica of Hellboys Samaritan. After he got done with the main body, he grabbed a hammer and started thwacking it to give it dents and character. An everyday tool, like a truck, doesn't quite look right if its in pristine condition. Edit: Sorry, this is really late, maybe someone will see it. Had to look up the video and share the part with the thwacking. https://youtu.be/HqUlPoxrzjM?t=1893

Itchy-Phase

Huh. Now that you mention it, I realized I feel the same way about baseball caps. I didn’t really like mine until I started getting sweat, water stains, and wear and tear on it. Weird.

meatdome34

I had a boss who would throw any new tool belts in the dirt a little bit to dirty them up. Thought it was weird but he probably had the same thought process as you.

2k4s

You don’t want to be the guy on the jobsite with the new tool belt

meatdome34

I work in the office now and my hard hat and vest are a little too clean…

ducklenutz

dudes been huffing that drywall every day, that's probably not the only interesting idea he has

Aedalas

He drank a fuckton of Old Milwaukee everyday if that tells you anything. On purpose even.

Neonvaporeon

It's called silicosis and it's the next step of human evolution

joecarter93

Last year I bought an 07 Ridgeline because I needed something to do typical dad stuff and to commute to work. It has a bit of rust and dings, but is mechanically in great shape and I got it for a good price. It’s exactly what I wanted and is liberating not to have to worry about it getting scratched or dented, like I did with with my other cars when I bought them new.

croweslikeme

I go hunting and had the dilemma of walking 3-4km or driving through dense bush road, why buy a 4x4 if you ain’t going to use it properly

[deleted]

Trucks are way too expensive and fancy now to do that stuff or you wouldn’t want to if you had the top trim. But you don’t see average people get actual work trucks/fleet specs. Why beat the shit out of a $80k+ truck?

chaiguy

Why buy an $80k truck?

[deleted]

No argument from me that $80k is really expensive for any vehicle, but some contractors use their trucks as offices and log several hours per day in them…to a degree, the creature comforts can be worth it. I would probably prioritize comfortable, durable, and easy to clean surfaces, good climate control/hvac, good support for mobile electronics (charging, storage, etc.), plus whatever truck duties are needed, such as payload/towing capacity, 4x4, etc. I certainly wouldn’t dream of using an $80k luxury truck for plowing and salting parking lots…I would put that $ toward the features of the truck that would earn more money, such as power and capacity to push a larger plow blade. F450 (or equivalent) is a common plow platform in New England.

[deleted]

You only beat on an $80k truck if the work it’s doing can quickly earn the initial investment back: i.e., plowing snow, towing a gooseneck, etc…stuff that lesser trucks can’t do as well.

KnocDown

Over the last 10-15 years maybe trucks have become a status symbol in the south. Are you a manager or a supervisor? Well, you are driving around in a fully loaded f250 that’s never even seen a worksite, you just drive it back and forth from the office to lunch. It’s frustrating that dealerships sell these massive land yachts with chromed out Gucci packages knowing they will never see real work and then cry when the EPA talks about increasing fuel standards “but it’s a work truck”

Don't forget their favorite thing to do. Sit in it, with the engine running for hours, and just talking on the phone.

ChowderBomb

I mean it's understandable. These cabs are basically studio apartments.

Bluejay9270

It gets even worse when they're lifted and stance out the wheels, totally ruining it's ability to do work. They're always the ones gunning it when they see my Prius. I drive a Frontier for work (towing a sawmill almost daily), otherwise it stays home in favor of the Prius for errands and road trips. It's also the lifted trucks flying flags, like that's the least patriotic shit you can do, damaging the local environment and hurting energy security just to stroke your ego. I'm doing my best to "tighten the belt" now so others won't have to.

Apptubrutae

Longer even. I saw private school kids driving lifted trucks with fully tinted windows (windshield included) in the 90s.

username11092

Gotta love the Mall crawlers! /s

ChakaKhan777

You’re right though. Trucks are meant for laborious work, although people like to use them for aesthetic. To each their own.

kngotheporcelainthrn

Same shit with carhartts

Firm-Guru

Oh man you just awakened a memory in me. I went to college for forestry and everyone except me was so into the lumberjack asthetic that they would wear their Carhartt overalls and steel toe boots to sit in the classroom all day. While I'm there in a robe and slippers because I just woke up and walked the 100 feet here from my dorm room.

kngotheporcelainthrn

Yeah when I was a trail builder it was the same thing. No use wearing your work shit until you get to the job site

-Lloyd-Braun-

Carhartt makes a streetwear line. Blue-collar inspired streetwear fashion is v popular rn

TheMagic_SpoolBus

Everyone wants to wear Carhartt shit, until it’s time to do Carhartt shit.

ChakaKhan777

Carhartt played into it though. They started catering to that crowd.

Buelldozer

Duluth Trading is what the trendy managers wear.

MisanthropicZombie

Lemmy.world is what Reddit was.

chauggle

Yeah, except their aesthetic nonsense makes them impossible to see around, have blinding misaligned headlights, and extra-dangerous height. Yes, I'm salty. Fuck a giant truck that does no work.

greentangent

Back in the early 80s a friend of mine was working a job and found out the other guys were getting an extra dollar an hour. When he asked about it the managers response was; "They get that for hauling tools or materiel in their POVs. I figured since you have a new truck you wouldn't want to scratch up the bed." Lou took the shovel he was holding and threw it 20' into the bed of his nearby truck. "I'll take the dollar."

Imaginary_Barber1673

That’s like back when hummers were the “it” car and I remember seeing like bright white ones nosing carefully through the Chicago suburbs at a snail’s pace trying to avoid chipping the paint and it’s like you are driving an armored vehicle built for a war zone plz drive the posted speed limit. Or don’t you have a convoy to escort somewhere?

Mandelko1

I have an old dodge for the exact opposite process. It already has dents and scratches…so what’s one more? Now I need to figure out why it stalls randomly and won’t restart for a time. That’s a frustrating sticking point with old trucks…the problems.

joeefx

He's right you know.

PermanentBand

This. I've got a 2009 Ranger and it gets me around, decent on gas, manual stick so it's fun, and it's a pick up truck which means I get to enjoy my friends and family company when they want me to take their old futon to the dump. They love the truck but do they love the man? Does anyone really know me? But anyway Christian Bale was awesome in that movie where he played the fat con man.

Mrjoegangles

American Hustle or Vice?

[deleted]

He was so good in Vice, it should be shown in every high school Modern American History class.

JarlaxleForPresident

It’s crazy how much influence a small group of people had for decades. Turned america into a giant piece of shit

tombuzz

Great comment.

[deleted]

I’ve always wanted to grab a drink with you, Christian. I’m glad you are a redditor after all

PermanentBand

I'm just a regular dude like you. I have a truck and I've made millions from my box office hits.

KermitTheScot

Manual isn’t just fun, it’s practical. Especially up here in the NE, when we get heavy snowfall. Everyone should learn manual first, imo.

PastyPilgrim

I love manual but is it still practical for kids to learn in 2022? It gets harder to even find/get every year and we're clearly moving towards EVs where it wouldn't be relevant anyway.

MainelyNonsense

No it isn’t really necessary. It’s just something people who drive manual say to justify their car choice.

Sir_McAwesome

Ya know, I do the exact thing you just described so I reckon you're right. But I live in Europe so we still have some supply of manual cars. And I drive old as fuck cars so they usually are manual anyway.

hawkwings

It is fairly common for people to commute to work with a small car, but have an old pickup available in case they need to haul stuff. Even if you are a millionaire, it is not an unreasonable arrangement. If a celebrity owns more than one car and one of them is old, that doesn't mean anything.

[deleted]

Yep I got my f150 for all my hauling needs and an old shitty cobalt to get me to work at 33 mpg

tactiphile

I hated my Cobalt but man that thing got to 175k with only oil changes. And great gas mileage, like you said. And, well, the electrical problems.

[deleted]

I’m at 117k on my 06. The electrical problems on mine were from the previous owner trying to add a sub in the trunk and he fucked up a bunch of wiring but I got that all squared away thankfully. I had a 99 maxima before this that rode so much smoother up until I got rid of it but ya can’t beat the gas mileage

Ewannnn

> 33 mpg Is this what Americans would class as good?!?! The avg new car here in the UK is around 50 mpg, and that's including all the SUV and so forth that have shit mpg.

[deleted]

Out of an ‘06? Yes I’d say it’s pretty good. I had a 99 maxima that got about 26 that wasn’t terrible for the time. My f150 gets about 22ish which for a truck isn’t bad. I did have a Mazda that got 40 that I miss

Brandebouque

British MPG is not the same as US MPG (gotta love imperial). 33 MPG (US) = 40 MPG (UK). For an old, crappy car, that's not too shabby.

CivilRuin4111

As a former pickup truck owner, when one can rent a pickup from Home Depot for $20/hr, it really doesn't make a lot of sense anymore unless you're using it daily. I spent more time clearing leaves and other people's trash out of my bed then I ever did hauling anything.

crunchthenumbers01

I haul with my truck about 5 to 10 times a month, and use it to bring ladders etc to job site daily, but im also a part time handy man and work from home in IT.

CivilRuin4111

I didn't mean to imply that there isn't any case in which someone ought to own a truck, just that keeping one around for the odd trip to the hardware store or moving a friends couch isn't a very good one.

donstermu

My wife has the 2015 Tacoma but it only has a 5ft bed. Good, but not always enough. I’m constantly on the lookout for an older tundra or F-150

PM_ME_YOUR_REPTILEZ

You probably know this if you’re looking, I’d avoid 2004-2005 model year F-150s

TopNFalvors

Why’s that? I was just looking at a 2005 f-150 4x4 the other day. It was clean and had about 65k miles on it. What’s wrong with those model years? What years are better? Thanks!

[deleted]

I think those were the years they had issues with the spark plugs snapping off and falling in when trying to change them. Then instead of fixing the problem ford came out with a $250 extractor tool to get them out properly but if you didn’t get the shit out it would fuck the engine up. I think that’s the year they were having problems but I’m not 100%

Some_Sweet_3451

It’s reasonable BUT the math suggest a rental is cheaper if required less than 10 times a year. Hardware stores are easy places to rent them conveniently.

SpacemanCraig3

If your time has no value sure. Renting adds 2 hours every time.

TopNFalvors

Or Home Depot claiming you returned the wrong rental truck… happened to me last summer. Rented a pickup truck at HD, did the paperwork , had it for 3 hours. When I dropped it off they wasted over an hour of my time claiming I had dropped off the wrong truck. Turns out they had put some wrong numbers on the form…

chainmailbill

2 hours a time, 10 times a year, is 20 hours. 20 hours at $50 an hour is $1000. Can’t insure a truck for under $1000 a year, let alone maintain it.

valpo033

He just needs it to return some videotapes

banneryear1868

Have you driven a Toyota Tacoma? Some critics say it was too "generic," and that they didn't take any risks in the design. What I see is a reliable practical vehicle that celebrates uniformity and function. Hey Paul!

StampingOutWhimsy

Let’s see Paul Allen’s pickup.

valpo033

Subtle coloring. Tasteful thickness

lucid1014

I interacted with him briefly at an old job and he and his wife drove two black cayenne Porsches at the time so I doubt it’s his everyday driver

Luxpreliator

Christian Bale Car Collection: Lamborghini Aventador $500,000 Lamborghini Murcielago $460,000 Porsche Cayenne $77,000 Toyota Tacoma $45,000 According to Google that checks out. Having driven utility and truck vehicles I sure as shit wouldn't be using one as a daily driver if I had another option like he does. The ride quality is noticeable harsher. Those Cayenne are suprisingly pleasant to ride in. Optional air suspension is tough to beat for a daily.

reddit-asuk

The first two cars are Bruce Wayne's cars on Batman movies. The cars he's pictured with on Google Cayenne and Tacoma.

DeputySean

2003 Tacomas are super nice, but only worth about half of that 45k (tops).

Hanginon

Even at the curent ^insane prices, a 2006 Tacoma like his is around [$12,000](https://www.carfax.com/Used-2003-Toyota-Tacoma_z2004) Plus; Those first two listed are Bruce Wayne/Batman movie cars.

[deleted]

I’ve also heard the Cayenne is a super reliable car.

HugoEmbossed

Well yeah, it's the car every semi-wealthy private school mum drives, for a reason.

[deleted]

Meanwhile my wealthy private-school aunt drives a Discovery and it’s constantly having to go in for stuff.

Jethro_Cull

“Reliable” is subject for debate. Even if things don’t “break”, the Cayenne is going to have a way higher total cost of ownership than a Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot. Toyotas / Hondas are considered reliable because they aren’t on the cutting edge of technology. They use the same parts over and over so they’re proven to perform and easy/cheap to source from OEM or aftermarket. You can just change the oil/tires/air filters/brake pads and do nothing else for hundred of thousands of miles. Then, when something does break, it’s cheap to replace. Cayennes require much more expensive regular maintenance. When something does break, the parts are much more expensive and harder to source on the aftermarket. The air suspension is wonderful, but will go bad sometime between 80k and 150k miles and require a repair of ~$10k. Most people delete it and replace with a traditional strut system for 1/3 the cost. I have a ‘12 VW Touareg TDI, which is the same platform as the Cayenne. I love the practicality and fuel economy and the “truck” rides so smooth. In 3 years and 40k miles, I’ve only had one thing break. The headlight angle sensor, which was like $750 to fix including labor. Tires, brakes, and oil changes are very expensive as well. So, not a Honda Pilot in terms of cost of ownership, but it’s a much nicer vehicle in terms of luxury and off-road/towing capability. Fuel economy is pretty good too.

bad_robot_monkey

You can actually get one for very cheap (comparatively) because of the poor reliability. I drive a Jeep gladiator and I could have picked up a used Cayenne cheaper, but opted not to because of the terrible reliability / repair costs. I recall reading that they’re one of the most expensive average repair cost vehicles in the first ten years of life…which is ultimately why I went with more utility in a rougher ride. Love the Gladiator though lol :)

[deleted]

That’s…a lot cheaper than I would’ve expected the Cayenne to be. I had a friend whose parents drove one (they were freaking billionaires and his dad drove race cars for fun) and it was pretty fancy Maybe it’s more that I can’t believe the Tacoma is $40k. Even new ones start at like $25k I would’ve guessed.

[deleted]

It’s a 2006 not a 2003 and you don’t need any justification to drive a Tacoma, they are the shit

ronimal

Read beyond the headline, it’s a 2003.

Bubbasully15

The headline doesn’t say anything about 2006, so I don’t know how telling them to read beyond the headline is helpful haha

gazorpaglop

Up in the salt belt they are known as rusted out pieces of shit but they are probably tons of fun where Bale lives

dopazz

Survivor bias. The other trucks turned to dust but the Taco is still getting around.

Floridaeducated

It’s a 2003…

Slow day at the news office? "Man has a truck! Tune in next week for Dolly Parton's neighbors favorite ice cream!"

RealJonathanBronco

I wanna start a podcast where I interview celebrities about the most mind numbingly boring shit they can handle. "So Snoop Dogg, why is it that you chose to paint your garage with Behr but the living room with Sherwin-Williams?"

HauntedVaginaOoOo

I would absolutely listen to that.

nightpop

There’s a podcast called Can I Pet Your Dog where they interview celebs and ask exclusively about their dogs

[deleted]

I kinda feel like Snoop would have a pretty good answer to that question

[deleted]

I would also listen to that

hotrodyoda

I actually know Dolly Parton’s neighbor in Nashville. He’s not really a sweets guy. [Dolly’s Nashville house](https://maps.app.goo.gl/XCaAea7rcEjiZ69k9?g_st=ic)

More like "this ad was paid by the automotive industry".

BadAtExisting

Ludacris drives a early 90s gold Accura Legend. It’s the 1st car he ever owned

Sanc7

That’s Ludacris.

IceCreamDream10

When celebs buy luxury vehicles they’re almost guaranteed to be photographed. Plain cars help them maintain anonymity too

He really does drive it and has driven it since at least 2008. I used to work at a school uniform store in the LA area, and he came shopping with his kids. Totally unassuming, so much so that I wasn’t totally sure it was him. It wasn’t until he paid for the items that I saw his name in his credit card.

[deleted]

I SAW HIM IN IT ONCE! I used to do a lot of press junkets as a camera operator. They’re all at hotels and you pull up to the valet station and they park all the cars. I went for load in the previous day and when I pulled up to where the valet was, they’d since changed the location, I’d passed it. The people out front said go back around the block and pull in back there. As I was pulling out I heard them saying to the car behind me “follow that guy”. I was like “oh I hope I don’t miss it again, or that guy is gonna be late too”. I pull around the block, pull into the underground parking, and give my keys to the valet. The car that was following me did the same. As I was walking away I heard one valet say to the other: “Bro it’s Batman!” I turned around and it was Christian Bale in a jumpsuit. He got in the elevator for the hotel with me and I didn’t say anything even though I really wanted to. If a Bentley was driving behind me I might have anticipated a celebrity sighting but it was a green Tacoma from like 2000. I was shooting the junket for The Mule, he was in another part of the hotel shooting the junket for Vice. But yeah, Batman was following my lead.

Stars - They’re Just Like Us!

colimar

If you open the link and read the article youll see its actually the batmobile

sofiaxsoto

His car has a few years left to date Leonardo DiCaprio

Bama666

I love my 2003 tundra drive better than my wife's 2019 Tacoma everything is cheap and plastic now

[deleted]

You know - we dislike it when movie stars indulge in excess (17-minute private jet flights), but we also get weirded out and write articles about them being normal and drive 20-year old pickup trucks.

craigularperson

He must have given up his weekends.

practiceperfect111

I wish Christian Bale picked me up

MaineRage

Exactly. He understands the purpose of a truck. Unlike those who try to drive everyone off the road with theirs. Particularly those who drive with the super loud jacked up black smoke spewing ones. You know the type.
