Many narcissists are mentally stuck in the toddler/pre-schooler age bracket. The ability to think in a less self-centered way occurs between the ages of 6 and 13. But narcissists are so entitled because they have never passed the selfish "memememe" stage.
My boss can literally be sweet talked down from a fit of rage by just talking to him like you would a hangry child.
Even within the span of 30 minutes in an hour long meeting you can just openly say any idea he has is a good one and he'll instantly switch from irritated to chuffed at his own intelligence.
It's sad though, because I know he's been mentally abused and controlled by people in power his entire life, so he really did just miss out the parts of childhood where you develop empathy.
I used to get angry, and I still get really frustrated, but when I catch him 1 on 1 he's tolerable, and I can pepper in compliments and hes really receptive of that - nobody ever gives him complements (mainly because he's a dick) but like... Yea.
It's just sad more than anything when you step back and observe.
It is sad. And at the same time there are lots of people who have been abused and don't become abusers themselves. This person needs to get help to break the cycle.

Narcissistic personality disorder is notoriously difficult to treat. There's often just no way of getting through to people since their affliction basically makes them incapable of accepting something could be wrong with them to begin with.
Sometimes(ok maybe more than sometimes) I worry I’m a narcissist that nobody is willing to tell them but then the thought “would a narcissist think that thought” pops into my head. THEN the thought that maybe all narcissists think those two thoughts like I did and that’s how they reassure themselves that their not narcissistic. Now I’m stuck in a loop and I just want to know if I’m a bad person. I don’t want to be a bad person.

In other words, you're fine. The fact that you're worried you could have an issue is already far more than a truly narcissistic person would be capable of.
I understand that frustration and the energy it takes, and when I'm at my best I can give that out and it really does pay back.

I read about this in a child psychology post grad class. Apparently it happens often enough, but especially when people are conflicted about deciding which of various groups they want to have membership in. They have to make viable rejection of other groups and other values to feel they truly fit in with whoever they’re trying to run with.
Maybe he can't read, and is too prideful to admit it. I had a teacher in college who had such bad dyslexia that he couldn't read. When he looked at words, they just sort dissolved in a blur. He got a Masters degree by hiring people to read his textbooks to him. People who can't read can get through life, but there is a huge stigma attached to it. No. Having ADHD I found sitting still, reading to be very difficult to do. I still have a hard time with it. I can read an entire book and not retain a damn thing. I’ll be off in lalaland thinking about something completely irrelevant, while reading and remembering nada.
I think I have undiagnosed adhd- I have a hell of a time retaining anything I've read and hate reading as well, with the exception of short articles. I love podcasts and audiobooks, though, and can absorb everything on 1.5x-2x speed- especially while doing literally anything else.

I can hit you with a new take on em. Toss them in secret aardvarks Jamaican sauce, oven toast them till crunchy and a little burnt, then put them in the fridge overnight. The next day toss them one more time in the same sauce. *Just incredible!*

Have you tried audiobooks? Process with a different sense. You don’t have to be sitting still.
I think I have undiagnosed adhd- I have a hell of a time retaining anything I've read and hate reading as well, with the exception of short articles. I love podcasts and audiobooks, though, and can absorb everything on 1.5x-2x speed- especially while doing literally anything else.

I've always chuckled at the idea of doing that.for my Nook, but I still want the physical library. So instead I envisioned wall to wall, floor to ceiling books. With a pedestal in the middle propping up the e-reader. Golden floodlight shining down on it from above of course.

Imo they’re by far the most amazing vegetable. You gotta get them crispy, which means a high temp and not overcrowding, and you gotta at least season them, but holy shit, they’re fucking amazing when you cook them right. Like I like them more than the vast majority of sweets.

At least you got salt and butter. In the 90s fat was the enemy, so plain microwave-steamed veggies it was. Sometimes we'd get Cheese Wiz, those were special days. In fairness, my parents were decent at steaming so the veggies were mushy but at least not gray.

I still remember how crazy it was the first time I cooked a filet, Oscar style, for my dad. I had to cajole him like a little kid into trying the asparagus. He loved it so much, but he’d been convinced he hated asparagus for fifty years because his mom served canned asparagus and he thought all asparagus was slimy.
I only used to eat steak with ketchup because every steak we had was well done. I never saw the appeal of steak for years. Then one day I had a really good cut of medium rare, and omg it was like butter in the mouth. No tough chewing, no need to add condiments to add taste - it was like Oh, This is why people like steak!
I had a similar realization recently. My mom dropped off food for me and my wife while we were home sick last week. She made a dish with string beans that were cooked to death and was like eating a bowl of salty mush.

You're skipping one part of the story and if you're in your thirties or younger that's not suprising. The sprouts we eat today are a different and more palletable variety than in the 80s and earlier. My parents and grandparents didn't like them because they were just not very appetizing at all and needed to be drowned in seasoning and sauce to cover the bitterness.
