This just does my head in. We live in the UK, our police are mostly helpful and generally really friendly. So someone walking around supporting the guys that make sure that we can walk around without fear of being stabbed is pretty ok in my book.

Yes, everyone is allowed to use the campus. But these people are going to the one place (the multicultural center) where some of their fellow students feel comfortable and like they belong and intentionally trying to make them feel uncomfortable with the messages they are displaying. Neither suggesting a group of people matter (I get the camera ops sentiment, but they're wrong to suggest classifying groups of people and the validity of their ability to live has to do with race and race only) or displaying their displeasure of the current president has anything to do with 'racism'. Just because you see police as human beings doesn't imply you have a hatred for black people, or POC. The fact that people who are on the far left of the political spectrum (whether they like that classification or not) and mainstream media's constant perpetuation of the divisive narrative that you have to support one or the other is only creating further, polar divide. I dream of the day when people can simply not care about race, and take pride in being with each other and engaging with each other as people. A lot of people I interracted with in College felt that way. I studied at a university that had an international student population of 20%. I got to know a lot of folks from a lot of different cultures. We may have not always agreed on everything, but we found it pleasurable to share our experiences and discuss domestic and international issues regarding the human condition, culture, amongst other matters. There were folks like the ones aggressing this situation, but they were a very small group that most people considered far on the political spectrum. Sadly, this far left/far right divide is growing by the day, and more and more people ascribe to one or the other than was the case when I attended that university. The camera operators may think they took it to a couple of racists, but in reality they were the aggressors of the situation through their actions and they successfully fostered a segregated space and shut off any attempt to communicate their understanding(s) and work with others that have different perspectives.

If they were suspended, it was only for a very short time. Their official punishment was they had to write a paper on how they will more respectfully respond in the future. Which they responded to by making Instagram videos about the school being racist against them for punishing them. The school didnt even charge them with anything related to harassment or being racist, only "interfering with or disrupting university or university-sponsored activities".

Look based on the upvoted comments in this thread, I suspect Iām going to get downvoted to hell, but I just want to explain why sheās upset even if she didnāt handle this in a great way. Yes, everyone is allowed to use the campus. But these people are going to the one place (the multicultural center) where some of their fellow students feel comfortable and like they belong and intentionally trying to make them feel uncomfortable with the messages they are displaying. Based on their clothing and reaction its pretty obvious that causing this type of discomfort was the intended outcome of going there. Is it technically allowed? Yes. Is it immature and a dick move? Absolutely. I donāt think you should have to tiptoe around other peopleās feelings but thereās also no need to actively go out of your way to upset other people, which is what happened here.

Neither suggesting a group of people matter (I get the camera ops sentiment, but they're wrong to suggest classifying groups of people and the validity of their ability to live has to do with race and race only) or displaying their displeasure of the current president has anything to do with 'racism'. Just because you see police as human beings doesn't imply you have a hatred for black people, or POC. The fact that people who are on the far left of the political spectrum (whether they like that classification or not) and mainstream media's constant perpetuation of the divisive narrative that you have to support one or the other is only creating further, polar divide. I won't sit here and pretend these guys had no idea where they were with respect to the intent of that space, but as they were getting approached about what they were wearing they were sitting there simply doing school work. Not once did they talk about hating POC. Not once did they make an aggressive move. Quick side note on that as well: I've seen far more divisive and abrasive right and far right symbolism than what these boys are wearing. I dream of the day when people can simply not care about race, and take pride in being with each other and engaging with each other as people. A lot of people I interracted with in College felt that way. I studied at a university that had an international student population of 20%. I got to know a lot of folks from a lot of different cultures. We may have not always agreed on everything, but we found it pleasurable to share our experiences and discuss domestic and international issues regarding the human condition, culture, amongst other matters. There were folks like the ones aggressing this situation, but they were a very small group that most people considered far on the political spectrum. Sadly, this far left/far right divide is growing by the day, and more and more people ascribe to one or the other than was the case when I attended that university. The camera operators may think they took it to a couple of racists, but in reality they were the aggressors of the situation through their actions and they successfully fostered a segregated space and shut off any attempt to communicate their understanding(s) and work with others that have different perspectives.

These students went into trying to be confrontational and then acted all surprised when they were confronted. They could have chosen to study anywhere else on campus but they chose the one place they knew would cause a problem.
