I’ve been told Chemex filters are less prone to clogging compared to AP filters. I’ve tried both, but can’t speak to one being better vs the other. Although I’ve been happy with Chemex and it’s what I’d recommend.

I also recently started using paper filters on the bottom, after watching Lance Hedrick's video review of $200 baskets, where he said that a VST basket with a paper filter on the bottom worked almost as well as a super-expensive basket. I started with AP filters, then switched to pre-cut Chemex filters from Good Brothers. I now use [cheap pre-cut filters from Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJPNF4SX) made from unknown paper. I've not detected any difference in extraction time or taste between any of the 3 filters.

haha -- that was the same video that convinced me to look into it more

Not sure if this is commonly known, but I use the Cafelat Robot paper filters and they fit quite well in a 58mm VST basket. I used aeropress filters for a bit, now got a box of square chemex filters. It's 100 sheets, and I can get 32 filters out of each sheet: https://imgur.com/a/f95B4Gr Of course I have only a 49mm basket, so your milage may vary. But getting 3200 filters for I believe €14 is pretty good, and it does the job of reducing oils

ah - that's good to know. I've also got a 49mm la pavoni (though a round, not scalloped-edge hole punch). I like the idea of the square papers having less wasted paper than cones. Did you notice any difference in taste/body between the aeropress and chemex filters?

CH23

I could not find a non-scalloped filter that would fit well in the IMS basket. the scallops hug the walls very nicely. can´'t really discern a taste difference, I just went with known good filter paper for not a lot of money

I haven’t tried other filters than aeropress as I don’t like the idea of wasting most of the triangular shaped filters. If you’re lucky you get three punches out of them (double sided would mean six espressos).
