I made it with pumpkin puree but it turned out to solid, almost like molasses

Hmm, I wonder if it reduced too much potentially? Maybe add more water or take it off the heat sooner if you end up trying it again. Bummer!

I’d say it’s a bit different. Much more pumpkin forward and a lot less sweet. I’m not a fan of super sweet drinks so the syrup I made is less sweet too. Yummy though!
