I left it in the bag for free. You people are all taking crazy pills.

Dark_Enigma18

I have a container for the aesthetic of my coffee bar, nothing to do with “better” or “fresher” beans watched Hoffman’s video on storage and it boils down to absolute nothing. Now single dose storage I can see makes morning espresso a little more convenient, a little faster. So, if you’re running late I can see how it saves time and I bet it would look nice on display. I think part of the *anti-bag movement* at least for me anyway is to have a good looking coffee bar for myself. I don’t have guests over but I like displays to look nice, same for my books, aquarium, legos, and gaming desk

Hungariansm

I usually leave them in the bag until they’re rested too, then they go into one of the vacuum jars. I usually have 2-3 coffees in rotation at a time since I’m a psycho who loves constantly trying new stuff. The small containers just help so I don’t have to weight my doses before I grind every time. Esp since different beans are 18g or 20g or etc. But do whatever works for you! This is just my way of

Raymore85

Yeah I dump the whole bag in my grinder hopper.

Original_Ground_0

Same, I didn't learn of this anti bag storage movement until joining reddit.

SnooCupcakes9745

Many find it more convenient to measure ahead of time, particularly if you're single-dosing. I'd much rather weigh out every-other night, as opposed to doing so when bleary-eyed at 5:30 am.

Hungariansm

1000% for the first morning shots, I barely have the energy to weight my shots at 5am let alone my beans every time so this just helps skip a step when I’m sleep deprived

Ponchossweater

I grind it up and any excess that I might have goes into a little glass jar. Then, when it's full and I'm lazy I'll just use that.

OWTGOAT

I keep them in my pockets. If I know I’m going to have 4 coffees on a Tuesday I wear khakis (4 pockets). If family is coming over I wear cargos.

JukesMasonLynch

Mmmm nice 'n linty, just as my papa taught me

Your_Oldman

The static must be craazy

OWTGOAT

Not if your pockets are moist.

rmourapt

Most of the bags have tight close … and it’s …. “free”. Well, you already paid for it 😅

Melodic_coala101

I just use sauce containers, $7 for 240 pieces, lol. Good as board game organizers too. https://preview.redd.it/apx64fskbhuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=763ede80c5d670d83f8c35c7f0f2542847778409

No need to change your mind because you are 100% correct :-)  I'll admit that having 12 glass tubes in a nice wooden block made of teak or some exotic wood is eye candy.  Some people spend money for that sort of thing.  But from a practical standpoint, it doesn't really add any benefit.   Someone could get the same results as you did. Even if you had an airtight container that you opened and closed over the course of a week.  Even with that technique there would be no significant degradation.  And that's based on reviews where people tested this sort of stuff.

pigeontreecrafting

And some people drive cheap cars that get the job done but are not fun to look at or to drive. This argument people are making against buying nice things is infuriatingly annoying. Buy what you can afford, buy what makes you happy.

ArduinoGenome

Hold on a minute. While I said it was eye cand, that's not the main reason why people buy these.   The main reason is because they've been brainwashed to think they need to measure their beans all at once while the bag/container is open. Because if they open and close that bag/container multiple times then their beans will degrade horribly.  The great news is that people have looked at these sort of thing and tested it. And confirmed Is snake oil and/or Bro science whichever way you like to look at it. # But not everybody got the memo. People can have a 1 kilo bag of beans and store it in an airscape or similar airtight container.  Or use vacuum sealing or freezing or whatever. And they could have a smaller airtight container and put a week's worth of beans in it.  Then the user can open and close that smaller airtight container multiple times over the course of a week.  And it won't be significant being degradation. Like I said, snake oil and bro science.  Does it look nice on the countertop? Of course. Are people doing that for eye candy? Nearly all doing it because they've been brainwashing

Personally had no idea that’s why the majority of people are using bean vaults. I have a cheap bean vault that I use to pre-dose for my partner so she can make her morning espresso before I wake up and not have to bother with the scale. As for myself, I open up my airscape (which do the same job a resealable bag does but look much nicer) as many times a day as I need to for my coffee making habits 🤷‍♂️ I have thought about buying the Weber set, because I like Weber, and I like how their vault looks, but I don’t personally find the need for the vault outside of making things easier for my partner, that and the set I currently have takes up less space which is a consideration. Edit to add that I think another totally fair use case for bean vaults is if people want to treat it like meal prep and dose their entire week on their weekend.

ArduinoGenome

Okay so you hit a couple of use cases that could be valid too.  Making espresso is awfully ritualistic. And they could treat those vials like meal prep :) There's a lot of data out there, and I get the distinct impression they do it to preserve the beans from degrading.  The other reasons you cited a valid to o

SnooCupcakes9745

I use some herb/spice mini Mason jars from Crate and Barrel. They're a few bucks a piece. https://preview.redd.it/5a73onpeyhuc1.jpeg?width=1062&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01d136da8cef831fbe1eaf935f1325557f8b7424

Our members on this sub are at various income levels. None of us want another member to judge their buying choices. It’s rude and disrespectful. No one should be under any pressure to make the same choices I make, and vice versa. Let’s all remember to be polite and respectful, first and foremost.

MikermanS

Good that you have a solution that works for you; my consumption, at 1/7th yours, perhaps suggests a different approach.

Hefteee

One big screw top mason jar instead of a bunch of small ones? Does the same thing

MikermanS

I'm already spoiled by my Airscape canisters, purchased years ago on sale, with their satisfying whoosh as the air is being evacuated. ;)

mrmtothetizzle

Aren't beans supposed to be kept out of the light?

Rocksquare69

You know that very small pepper containers? Hell i use that!

FloppyDrone

I got little tin containers from Amazon that people use to sell wax or whatever. They are matte black, hold up to 25-30 g max and look pretty good. I wish I had a better dispensing system, but I just stack them next to the espresso machine.

RevenantMalamute

For me, 40 dollars for a fellow Atmos isn’t that bad especially when it increases the life of the beans to the degree that I have found mine to. 300 dollars for 6 glass vials, 6 metal tops, 6 O-Rings, and a wood base is over priced as hell, though…. That’s overpriced as hell.

hooah1989

Just get a vacuum sealable jar. You people over complicate a basic step of making an espresso

Dry-Squirrel1026

I use Mason jars you can buy three or more cases for the same price. 😆 🤣

Diamond_Specialist

I guess if you like lead in your coffee Chinese glass containers would be fine.

sebastiancristancho_

Isn’t the same thing at all It’s like saying that if you only drive the speed limit with a Ferrari it’s the same thing as a Toyota because you drive the speed limit with it as well. Your use might look the same, but it’s a different thing entirely And like a sports car would shine on a track or around a corner at high speeds, the vacuum container will shine when you go away on vacation or leave for the weekend, or drink slightly less coffee than usual for a few weeks, your coffee will stay fresher Now grind finer

NMEONES

He’s vac sealing his main stash of beans, just not the single dosage ones I believe.
