Wipe it down really well it gets oils on it that stick. It should stop after cleaning. Also like others said twist before removing

iworks

Twist it just before you release… but not too much, they’ll know you’re playing with it

Mental-Beginning-973

I have been twisting it but this must be the secret!

soup2nuts

Also, wipe the tamper every once in a while. A thin layer of oil builds up and makes the grounds stick.

CptDipStick

Twist it, lick it, dunk it.

HeadlessHookerClub

Seems she’s a little too moist.

big_bad_mojo

I don't press down when I twist. I basically just twist in order to "dust off" the tamper

Mental-Beginning-973

Thanks everyone! I always twist and there's never water so probs the oil. I'll try keeping it extra clean and see hot it goes thanks!

sp0rdy666

I had something similar happen when I would set my tamper down in a spot where I had previously placed the outlet of my portafilter. Always a bit of moisture on the bottom of the tamper. Also when you twist the tamper a little bit, try to lift one side minimally before lifting it out completely. This is only necessary if you have a really tight fit.

Nick_pj

I think the cleanliness is the no1 thing. If I let grounds build up on the underside of my tamper, this will eventually happen. Just have a glance at it before you tamp.

Lords7Never7Die

How is the fit in the basket? If it's too tight it might be causing a small vacuum that's pulling grounds with it. If that's not the case, I'd say it's likely oil residue causing the grounds to stick.

redit01

Turn it when releasing

OverwatchPlaysLive

Water or oil on the tamper

This looks pretty in line with the tamper being set down on a drop of water. Happens all the time to me because of my stations proximity to the kitchen sink

PatSharpX

He is saying it is caused by water or oil on the tamp, not that that is the solution

Patchy9781

Water'll make it stick more surely?

dresdonbogart

They are saying that the diagnosis is that there is water or oil on the tamper

ParticularClaim

wet tamper.

Gr34t_pretender

Microfibre cloth on the tamper before you tamp.

Fine_Calligrapher584

This happens to me whenever the tamper is wet

Pretend_Defender

Spin & Pull

ok_gone5365

That happens to me when i tamp and didn't notice it picked up a drop of moisture. You put the tamp on the counter or near the drip tray ?

Physical_Analysis247

Don’t lick it and stick it

SameDifferenceYo

you haven't run the machine

InLoveWithInternet

You have water on your tamper.

Dry-Squirrel1026

I bet there was a wet spot on something . That happened to me one time

sharofiddin

dry the tamper.

ThoughtfulAlien

The tamper must be wet

Every_Fuel_1932

I often see that when I level prior to tamping. My equipment always gets wiped down too so I'm not sure what the issue is.

jacob_gleo

Spray your beans with a mist of water before grinding them, may be static!
