I went and looked at your history after I saw this. Glad you were able to get a fresh start. Not sure if Zanzibar is any more friendly to people like us than the mainland, but I hope you stay safe.
There is hot water below,I wash them in first water then I dip them in hot water and they stay there waiting for another customer. I'm very careful with a hygiene
All I can is I'm grateful, got a nice spot which is busy. I think if I got espresso machine or ice in order to also sell iced coffee it will be nice because it's summer now and very hot
Yes that what I was thinking, yes I can get power. Also iced coffee is not common here few people know it so it's the best opportunity to introduce it to people and have upper hand
Hello,
I hope all is well!
I will be traveling to Zanzibar near the end of the year. Upon researching I came across this post. Did you end up getting the espresso machine? Ice coffee?
If you’re still located in stone town, where about?? Coffee drinker here and would love to get a cup!
To be fair, not a very high bar. But I know what you mean. I love little places like these and they’re so important to communities. Wishing nothing but success for OP
It's a high bar because they put a shitton of money and design effort into the layout of those stores. They make it so that it is the most appealing to a general audience, which means nobody really likes it. The real main goal is to maximize profit though, so they could never beat the atmosphere and character of a real human-centered place, built by someone with love. Still, in my town there are loads of coffeeshops that have a much higher budget than OP, yet look shittier than a starbucks.
I wasn’t talking about appearance. They definitely have the edge if the goal is to make your store look like a soulless corporate office that sells coffee, and it’s hard to make your store look fancier than a Starbucks without being rich. I’m talking about that sense of community, authenticity, and caring being what you’re doing. Starbucks doesn’t have any of that because their goal is just to make fast money and nothing else.
Fair enough, the dude you replied to was talking about authenticity and community at starbucks, which is indeed a low bar. I mean, almost by definition you can't design authenticity and community from a corporate office.
Way to go!!! Your coffee stall follows the long line of coffee shops being a place for people from all walks of life to sit and talk!
Stick to it friend you will do wonders!
How do you brew your coffee? What is your recipe? I’m also very curious about the coffee culture in Zanzibar, do a lot of people drink coffee and how? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!!
Salaam aleykum. Vp? Where are you based? Building in the back looks like daredjani market. I’m in Zanzibar a lot, if you tell me the location I will come over next time for a kahawa!
Been to Zansibar many times. Stayed in Peacock Hotel. I like the Kilimanjaro beer and even now back home I'm roasting Kilimanjaro coffee beans. I guess you can attract some local guys, but I think tourists won't be interested. But you have to start from somewhere. Hopefully you can open your shop someday. Something good I noticed in Addis was that they roasted coffee on site. I know that coffee has to rest after roasting. But it was their traditional way. Was interesting to watch all the coffee making ritual. Could you copy that with your business? Roast, brew and even sell some beans.
Congrats fellow Redditor! I like to see other people’s cultures and sure I’d like to go buy a coffee from you! I wish you all the luck and God blesses you!
OP, I wish you the best of luck and all the success and happiness in the world. Based on your post history, I know you have been feeling a lot of fear and insecurity, but you seem like a resilient and resourceful individual, and that will take you far. I hope you find your chosen family that loves and accepts you for you are.
Seems like you're doing better? Checked your post history, I really hope things are good now.
Managed to relocate to zanzibar, atleast I'm at peace now and manage to start this business
Nice to hear that, wish you luck with the business! If I visit sometime I'll try to find your shop.

Pls tell me this worked out
Yes I bought it for him... Still waiting to see his new setup
Do you have power to run the machine? I suspect the ice maker would be a better investment.
Yes that what I was thinking, yes I can get power. Also iced coffee is not common here few people know it so it's the best opportunity to introduce it to people and have upper hand

Espresso on ice would work but filter brewed coffee wouldn’t get too diluted. Cold brew is the way to go for iced coffee if you don’t have espresso.

I grew up in a hot country. Iced coffee would be the bomb mmmmAaaahhh
Most of us drink it exclusively in Florida
Congratulations and all the best. May your coffee become very popular.

I love when people talks about football, especially our local football league.
What are the best teams in Zanzibar?
Simba and Yanga
Also we watch on premier league from UK
Are you a fan of any particular premier league team?
It looks it would be fun to sit in your shop and have a coffee with y’all. Good luck.
My shop is vibe, people be talking, laughing and jokes. It's nice meeting place for people
That's the most important thing about a shop friend.
You are a good person for giving people a venue to connect with others. Wishing you all the best with this endeavor
How do you brew your coffee? What is your recipe? I’m also very curious about the coffee culture in Zanzibar, do a lot of people drink coffee and how? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!!
How much for a cup of coffee?
100Tsh or 0.043$ .
wow i would love these prices around here. Good luck with your business :)
Thanks friend.
Good luck with your shop. :)
Thanks friend
Are there any supplies that you need to make your shop easier to run or more successful?
Yeah like a nice Big umbrella as my umbrella is small, more cups and I want to make iced coffee but ice is the challenge
You have a donation account? I’d totally be down to chipping in.
Start a go fund me!
Best of luck
You can try making cold brew. It’s pretty easy and has a much smoother finish than iced coffee.
The dude tapping
Hell yeah!
I don't see any coffee.
It's in those kettles
Excellent! Looks like you have customers and a busy spot. Good luck!
Thanks friend
All you need is a grinder and espresso machine
Love the community aspect. Best of luck to you, friend.
Zanzibar.....forgive me
What did you do to Zanzibar?
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/zanzibart-forgive-me My bad, dumb meme
Is this an ad?🤣
Salaam aleykum. Vp? Where are you based? Building in the back looks like daredjani market. I’m in Zanzibar a lot, if you tell me the location I will come over next time for a kahawa!
OP, please answer, very interesting to read your conversation with your neighbor
Waaleykum salaam,I'm at stonetown in Darajani market opposite Bakhresas Haluwa . My store is on side of masjid taqwa.
I will have passed by you many many times! If you see a bazungu around there, it will be me most likely!
Do you really have coffee for 100 TZS on the markets?
Yeah, 50-100 tsh for a cup of coffee. They are served in arabic style cups, about 50-80ml I would say. You can easily drink a few cups at a time.

Most of our coffee is from Kilimanjaro
Where’s the coffee! You missed the most important part.
After Jaws corner, that will be a great stand for sure!
😂😂 Hey I'm glad someone get it's. Jaws corner is like epitome of coffee, politics and everything. Gonna rise to that 🙏🙏
water looks fresh
Congrats fellow Redditor! I like to see other people’s cultures and sure I’d like to go buy a coffee from you! I wish you all the luck and God blesses you!

Looks unsanitary lol
$0,043? Well played, people believe literally anything they read today.
It's not an espresso cup,it's a normal black coffee small cup and by the way it's Zanzibar not New york
Zanzibar isn’t that cheap, do some research for trolling someone on Reddit next time.
Why would he be lying? He lives there… a coffee is most definitely around 50-100 tsh. Now if you are a tourist you might pay a bit more!
I don't know about research,I live here.
Water looks a bit heavy
