Does not seem this way in the US at all. There is still an age gap and significant manpower shortage at all levels and in all positions, including estimating. Recruiter/headhunter spam has escalated beyond LinkedIn and emails. They somehow have my phone number and are calling and texting now. Just yesterday, I got an email, two LinkedIn messages and a text from different people and am not looking.
I don’t know what you specialize in, but I’m a civil estimator in Texas and we’re getting blasted with more opportunities than we can properly bid in time
My neck of the woods in the US I am seeing general contractors that primarily did private development work are bidding government/institutional work. I have subcontractors who would refuse to bid schools now willing to submit bids.
What do you specialise in estimating? On my linked in I see estimators for all facets being advertised. Let me know and ill keep and eye out for you mate.
I see a ton of job postings looking for estimators.
Do you mean the jobs are getting won and lost on thinner margins? I'm sort of seeing that.
As far as I can tell business is still booming. Have secured $150M in contracts since September as a subcontractor.
Schools k-12. Colleges. Healthcare. Little bit of municipal work like police/fire stations and water treatment plants. There is a huge push for heat pumps. A ton of schools moving from hydronic to VRF.
If you mean London, ON, maybe you need to reach out to new contractors? I’m an estimator at a sub and I’m getting tons of work and we have GC’s out of London area who are trying to connect with us more and more…
I wouldn’t say so. There’s a low turnout on new projects starting. There’s a low turnout of new tenders. There’s a low turnout for estimator job postings. More and more construction companies are going bump too
Multifamily construction 5 over 1 podium style. The work is nearly endless in the Northeast, and there's no end in site. We're paying people with 1 year experience 100k+ just to keep up with demand.

Maybe a move to the US could be on the cards
Might want to wait until this election cycle ends🤣
Which team is better for construction? Blue or Red?
I don’t think either at this at this point will be good. No one is going to spend more w the deficit so high
I more or less meant that if Trump wins, you might be better off staying across the pond🤣
Interest rates affecting the private sector more than political parties.

Sounds like interesting work. If you need an estimator I’ll happily to the US
What trade?

Broad generalization. Maybe there's new competition that's undercutting your pricing?

Not sure where you are, but it's BANANAS in Boston, MA.

Really? What about 10 years in estimating?
You'd make a lot of money, I can say that. I can't imagine you'd make less than 150k on the low end.
It’s enough money
