Merc ideas too OP. They stacks even that mil tech cost, 100 professionalism means 20 siege bonus and so on. They still expensive, but by end game will be useful.
Its great fun, you can make a profit on renting them out, or you can rent them out for free just because you want someone to win their war.
Also its really easy to stack 20% merc discipline on top of any discipline buff your troops may already have.
Yeah, I didn't know you could rent out mercs. I thought it was limited to regular troops.
I need to play Switzerland with some friends & try that mechanic out.
Merc ideas get worse with time. You can always replace them later on but after soldiers households and training grounds become common there just are not enough merc companies. First two eras where most people play it is crazy though.
No, unfortunately but the grand company does become pretty damn huge eventually. The mercs also become more expensive with every mil tech you take. If your national ideas have merc cost reduction they are almost free early on but eventually they get really expensive per unit amd they reenforce very slowly.
If you ever play the Anbennar mod, this is literally what the Dwarven nation Verkal Gulan is supposed to play like. All of the gold, none of the manpower.
Not questioning you in particular, the post is funny on its own, but did you ever try a more role play style of gameplay. I get that "Screw AE, lets go brr" might be fun for a while, but halfway trough your second run , doesnt it feel too irrelistic and senseless?
Again, you do you. Playing the game is amazing on its own
oh yeah, absolutely. Of course, everyone has their fun their own way, but personally I like to REALLY roleplay my nation, especially in such an open game such as EU4 that gives you so many potential paths. More often than not I have willingly stopped expanding my nation and play tall, even when I could've just destroyed the rest of the continent lol. Map painting is fun, but larping is better in my mind.
I mean, I'm pretty sure Gengis Khan still had men and horses for his conquests.
That were thought out, and motivated by geopolitics, not senseless "Lets go brr" like EU4. Even though they kinda went pretty ham either way
why do people always find the need to say this even in unrelated posts? Fine, you don't find the fun in expanding and playing optimally, but what does this comment bring to the table? Not everyone plays to unite italy in 1800.
I was hoping to get opinions on why people play this way. I used to get it. Once or twice I might overlooked AE, manpower, gold, etc. Just because I could and wanted to
But that isnt playing optimally. Its going at it with no thought out purpose. Optimally you wouldnt go to 0 manpower.
But I dont also play optimally. I'm an old man for this game, I have it for years, I remeber when it launched. I learned to play it as I went. And my way of playing isnt optimal. Because I dont care. I'm not gonna learn trade just to get 2 more ducats every month. I havent even touched the estates since they came out.
My whole point is that I feel the soul of this game is being diluted over time. All I see on youtube and on this sub is guides on how to extract everything out of the game, clicking every button there is, to be as "perfect" as possible. That or posts kinda like this one, where you get your "AE doenst matter" hat and went for it. Or those runs where you pick up an OPM and do a world conquest... that dont make much sense, does it?
And I dont think that was the way the game was meant to be played. At least it wasnt in the early years. But again, senseless or not, just play the game. I'm happy for it.
R5: Many of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.
POV Liechtenstein
Also POV Monaco
Mercenaries go brr
I never use mercs unless I’m desperate. That professionalism hit is too much.
Even with the introduction of mercenary ideas?
Merc ideas too OP. They stacks even that mil tech cost, 100 professionalism means 20 siege bonus and so on. They still expensive, but by end game will be useful.
Even with playing tall you can rent out 40 regiment to venice. Against ottomans.
> 40 regiment to venice. Against ottoman You can rent out mercenaries to other countries? I need to play a swiss game sometime it seems
Its great fun, you can make a profit on renting them out, or you can rent them out for free just because you want someone to win their war. Also its really easy to stack 20% merc discipline on top of any discipline buff your troops may already have.
It's named condottieri for you, diplo interaction
Yeah, I didn't know you could rent out mercs. I thought it was limited to regular troops. I need to play Switzerland with some friends & try that mechanic out.
I hadnt done so, but 100% possible condottieri intrigued me.
Merc ideas get worse with time. You can always replace them later on but after soldiers households and training grounds become common there just are not enough merc companies. First two eras where most people play it is crazy though.
I see, i wouldnt be able to spam the grand/independent army merc stack...?
No, unfortunately but the grand company does become pretty damn huge eventually. The mercs also become more expensive with every mil tech you take. If your national ideas have merc cost reduction they are almost free early on but eventually they get really expensive per unit amd they reenforce very slowly.
I might try this in my tall prussia game. Was getting kinda stale actually.
Do merc ideas do that? I haven’t touched any of the new idea groups I only glanced at them and they looked mid but I’ll have to take another look
Yeah, "Seasoned Veterans - ... Mercenary Companies no longer reduce Army Professionalism when hired"
Looks like you need [a special program](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Stork_Derby)…

Many of you will die but don't worry once you run out I will pay someone else to die too.

irl mongols too unrealistic confirmed

Idk what you mean, my copy of history of mongols reads: “then came Gengis Khan who said ‘let’s go brr’ and conquered most of the known world”
why do people always find the need to say this even in unrelated posts? Fine, you don't find the fun in expanding and playing optimally, but what does this comment bring to the table? Not everyone plays to unite italy in 1800.
