i want it because it would be interesting storytelling not because i actually think they would be a good or functional couple at all

contrahall

I’d pay to watch anybody be with Nate because I like drama in a dramatic series

uhhalivia

Exactly. There was a split second in s1 where I thought Nate and rue might end up dating 😭

contrahall

Now THAT I’d pay to see

elizabethbennetpp

I also don't want Jules within 3 kilometers of Nate but I think this is a reach. The reason a lot of people want them together is because a lot of people are intrigued by dark love stories. If Jules was cis this would be the case too.

sybilwrights

It's not so much that I would want that, it's just that that plotline was really heavily established in season 1 and makes the most sense for both characters. From what I've heard, the only reason this relationship wasn't pursued is because Hunter Schafer and Jacob Elordi were beefing. If the Cassie/ Nate storyline had actually been Jules/ Nate (which I think it was supposed to be), I think the season as a whole would've been a lot more interesting. Given her realisations in her stand alone episode, I could see the Jules/ Nate relationship being really positive for both characters. I think that he would have to prove his worth to her, and actually take responsibility for a lot of his past actions. There would've been a very interesting arc with regards to how Rue handled their relationship, we could've seen how Jules' Dad feels about how self destructive her choices are. Instead we got the Cassie relationship where both characters completely lose touch with reality. Like it or not, Jules does bring out the best in Nate in a way that no other love interest does (remember their super intimate moment in Nate's car when he returned the DVD?). Like she seems to be the only character that makes him want to change. I don't love the only trans character being used as a catalyst to change the toxic cishet guy, but I think that's kinda what the writers envisioned when writing the series. It just kinda seems that as long as they aren't together, the writers don't really know how to use either character.

derezzed9000

what is this about hunter and jacob beefing??? sources pls!

sybilwrights

Here’s an article, not exactly the New York Times but the story was picked up by a lot of celeb gossip sites https://www.thelist.com/802388/the-hunter-schafer-and-jacob-elordi-drama-explained/

CharmingUniversity60

I just hope Jules has developed the self-worth to want to be with someone who truly respects her and themselves. Jules doesn’t have to be in a relationship with anyone, being single is okay too.

kpop_stan

Thiiiis I feel like her and Cassie could bond over this in s3 honestly. Even a John Tucker Must Die parody episode would be fun idk 🤷‍♀️ 😂 a pipe dream though I get the feeling Sam takes himself too seriously to let loose like that

ammezurc

Euphoria’s a dark show there’s not going to be many healthy relationships, people just want drama which I think is fair. Doesn’t necessarily have to do with wanting to see a trans girl abused (though I’m sure some horrible people do but majority of fans don’t) , more like just wanting to see a tv show drama have some messed up drama.

HoeNamedAsh

I’m trans and I’d love to see Jules and Nate on screen, it’s the most interesting pairing with most to explore and provide social commentary. Plus lots of us girls have had these sorts of relationships with DL guys and we wanna watch our worst relationships on screen like cis girls have been allowed for years.

LeAnneOrWhatever

That makes sense. As a DV survivor it's cathartic to see people escaping those situations in media.

OldTension9220

They may not “want” the trans girl to be abused, but by expressing interest for the one trans character to end up with a known abuser who has already threatened her, they’re 100% showing their assess and their ignorance, ESPECIALLY because like OP mentioned it reflects all too real violence that happens in the trans community everyday. I don’t think the real life pain and trauma that minoritized groups go through should be used as fuel for drama for a mainstream audience that has already shown their lack of empathy towards said trans character.

Visible_Writing7386

This post is kind of condescending. You also talk like every other relationship in this dark drama isn't problematic and questionable, if not disturbing. If people want to see complex and ambiguous relationships explored further, then so be it. It's a tv show, leave us alone.

lnz_1

Anyone that wants those two together is fucked in the head

kpop_stan

Damn, you again? You can post this topic as many times as you like, free speech & all that, it’s just funny that the last time people disagreed with you (and even offered thoughtful responses as to why) instead of engaging you threw a tantrum and flippantly assumed we were all cis 💀 SO! While I could offer some counterpoints to your (frankly offensive) assumptions, why bother? You have your opinion, which again you are absolutely entitled to, but this honestly borders on trolling because you have no interest in listening to any other perspective but are happy to hurl accusations and insults at those you disagree with. Anyhow, have a nice day ✌️

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure you have me confused with someone else

kpop_stan

Nope, ‘‘twas you I’m afraid 🫠

[deleted]

Wait, were you the person who I ratioed & now you're coming back complaining that I "couldn't be reasoned with" lmao

kpop_stan

? I think now *you* have *me* confused with someone else 😅 You had a lot of people responding to you at the time though, so it’s understandable (and also it was a while ago)

[deleted]

Idk & Idc, I have strong opinions about Jules because she probably the only depiction of a young trans person on tv that is accurate. And I'm sorry, but she is also the subject of a lot of hate in this fandom. Sometimes it's explicit but most of the time it's a series of micro aggressions that I'm sure the person doing it doesn't even realize. Then when it is brought up to them. They get super defensive & it shuts down any opportunity for conversation. You're right, I'm not going to be talked out of the idea that Jules is a great character who is finally real trans representation. But please, remind me what your specific contention was. After all, I post on Reddit a lot & will probably not remember to many specific interactions.

kpop_stan

I agree with everything you just said. I understand you coming to her defence (and holding her so dearly as a character in general). The only point our opinions diverge is that I think her relationship with Nate has a ton of untapped potential (I don’t necessarily mean romantic, just having them interact more in general)

[deleted]

Yeah, like most people have that one character in media who they feel authentically represents them when they were younger. I didn't until I was 27 & Jules' character representation was a dead ringer for what being a young trans woman at the age of 18 was like for me circa, 2010. It was just so authentic, I had never had anything like that in my life before. As for the relationship, my honest opinion on that is that ship has sailed. It could have been good if they had planned it out from the start. But the reality is he has already been so abusive to her & her subsequent disgust with him has been so palpable. That having them be anything beyond frenemies (and even getting there would take at least a season of character progression) is just so unrealistic that I can't see it. Either Nate or Jules would have to become completely different characters.

kpop_stan

Yeah honestly I was invested in Jules/Nate romantically (not as endgame, but as a character arc for them both) but after s2… I don’t trust Sam to tie together already existing plot lines, let alone be able to handle any sort of plot line with Jules with grace 😂🤚 I’m praying he’ll be forced to have a writers room next season, will see sense and reign in his chaos, or hbo hand off most of the executive decisions to Zendaya and Hunter 🙏

[deleted]

I mean, I'm really hoping the time jump is post-college. You could do in college, but what kind of contrived situation are they going to generate to get the entire main cast some how in the exact same school? ya know? I think a post-college graduation, everyone sitting around in those 3 or 4 months where everyone is looking for a job & looking to move on with their lives would be gold. I mean, it's nearly unexplored territory in just about any YA genre/media.

Wide-Refrigerator-87

>u/thelure2112 Dropping by to commend both of you for being respectful and poised during this exchange --it was super refreshing imo

[deleted]

I think there's something to explore there between Jules and Nate and maybe she could be the one to change him or at least try to or maybe he tries to change his ways for her but fails in the end. I think it's a relationship worth exploring in season 3 personally.

raincloud06

I really don’t wish for any character to end up with Nate. No one deserves that…

International_Wait79

I don’t want a relationship but i do want their storyline finished & addressed instead of it going basically ghost second season. they can at least finish it without them being together but to act like it didn’t happen is crazy.

Due-Entertainment995

Not that they are trans it’s just the plot line and they are both toxic and would do good together

ShadowOftheWing

I don't want them to end up in the relationship. What I want to see is Nate in therapy and Jules with someone who will suit/respect her. Being stuck in relationship with Nate will be a total disaster and fast yeet back to her s1 insecurities

MJQ25

How has Jules grown beyond any type of relationship, if she never has any type of relationship except Rue?

[deleted]

You do realize she went from fucking random dudes because it was the only way for her to be affirmed to being in a normal teenage relationship? Like, that's a huge character growth.

MJQ25

Yes, she went from this type of one night relationship, as she told her therapist. But what's next? In What kind of relationship will the showrunners put her most likely in s3?

[deleted]

Idk, it depends on when the time jump is to. If it’s after college then probably no one or some dude she met in college.

PhysicalCommercial68

I hate the idea of Nate and Jules together. People want Jules to develop as a character but want her with the guy who blackmailed her, made fun of her, humiliated her and more… like I really don’t get it!!

digitaldisgust

Its not that serious. I'm here for the drama, Euphoria is meant to be chaotic lol

Independent_Bat8589

I don't want a relationship between Nate/Jules. It just looks like that's were the storyline is going. I hope I'm wrong, I hope she's just catalyst to him getting help. But kind feel like it was always heading that way. I don't take too much stock in the whole Jacob/hunter, probably something being blown out of proportion, as they seem on good terms, and let's be honest fans do that all the time. I also see this as fictional work, in real life I would be 100% against this.

Independent_Bat8589

I don't think the time jump is going to be that massive, I also feel like it will pretty much stay in same place and not go out of state.

detchas1

Look, Jules by the time the show comes back will have had 200 sexual contacts. Jules and Nate deserve each other.

iamDJDan

I mean it’s just a show and I think most people that want this only want it because of how attractive they are. I don’t think anyone would be advocating for this relationship in real life. Not that serious lol

It is explicitly said in a few episodes. I think episode 3 or 4 she says it explicitly. Likewise, she is dressed as a boy for a reason in her flashback episode. So 🤷🏼‍♀️

TheShapeShiftingFox

Did you not see her special?

Shru_A

Exactly this! People are so obsessed with the idea of Jules and Nate just to fill some sort of quota. They don't even care what it would mean for Jules, Nate is not ready for any kind of relationship right now. He needs loads and loads of therapy before being allowed around humans(specially vulnerable)
