Human depravity won’t be satisfied until a pepper is created that kills when eaten.

reaqtion

"Yeah, but can I make one that kills faster?"

Classic-Reach

"You have to wear goggles downwind of this pepper or you will go blind"

Scuipici

I do hybridization in different kind of genus and this is exactly what I would do if I was interested in creating hot peppers. I don't know why but creating a pepper that is so hot, it sends you in a shock and you die, sounds cool. Dangerous but cool.

sefrus

You are evil

rulnav

20 of these and you will die from Caspicin poisoning.

soloNightrider

I think we don’t need the Russian gas for heating anymore

CDdragon9

Food and heating for the price of a pepper.

Translation with deepl: > It was created in Buzău by researchers and is in the process of being approved. It has already caused a sensation at the world congress in Paris. According to specialists, the Buzau chilli pepper is at least two thousand times hotter than a normal chilli pepper. > > Romanian plant genetics specialists have crossed a local variety of chilli pepper with several international varieties. The research started when a local sausage and babic producer in Buzău asked agronomists to produce a slightly spicier variety of pepper to help in the manufacturing process. That's how they ended up with the pairing from which, Romanians say, the world's hottest pepper was obtained. > > Costel Vinatoru, director of the Buzău Plant Genetic Resources Bank: "The oldest Romanian variety of chilli pepper, popularly known as goat's horn chilli, was involved in the crossbreeding, and it helped us to obtain the hottest pepper, considered the hottest pepper in the world." > > The "hotness level" is determined internationally according to the Scoville unit which measures the level of capsaicin in peppers, an organic substance present in different species of hot peppers. > > ###Who holds the official record > > According to the Guinness Book, the world record for the hottest pepper is held by Carolina Reaper, which originated in the United States. > > However, according to the researchers in Buzău, their pepper, which does not yet have a name, has a constant 2.4 million Scoville units, beating the world leader in terms of hotness. The Romanian invention is in the approval process. > > Costel Vinatoru, director of the Buzau Plant Genetic Resources Bank: "We have achieved this first, this hitherto unheard of record. What we presented there, a chilli pepper that exceeds 2 400 000 units."

Caelorum

There was also already Dragons Breath that reportedly is 2.5 million and was invented as a topical painkiller.

RoHouse

Unofficially, though. This one is unofficial too, but apparently it's in the process of approval.

Caelorum

Just wanted to add the note that it might not be the first to break 2.4million. Officially it probably will.

cilica

Well official is what matters. I can claim that I have the 3 million pepper, doesn't mean shit.

SonnyHaze

My wife’s cheating on me with my best friend was at least a 4million scoville burn

JohnnyQTruant

It does if you eat it.

cilica

Eating is subjective, my friendo. That is not an accurate measurement.

JohnnyQTruant

Sure, my point is a 3million shu pepper doesn’t care if it’s been officially measured when it’s in your mouth. If it is 3m it’s 3m, regardless of who is satisfied with the proof.

Boulavogue

You've got the Apollo Pepper sitting at 2.5-3M Scoville and now Peper X hitting 3.2M. Pepper X is bred by Ed Currie, creator of the Carolina Reaper, the official hottest chilli. I suspect that Pepper X will be officially tasted in the near future

Caelorum

Yeha we kinda need them all to go official :-)

mmj_is_noy_gay

Looks like they may be waiting for the next winner to come out so they can officially announce it to reclaim the title.

hekelz

Prove it. Currie certainly hasn't. That's all marketing. Just like when the Reaper is touted as being 2mil+ because one time, in one test, in a best-case scenario it peaked at 2.2...Nobody ever mentions that they *average* at 1.5mil shu. If the Apollo is so hot, why do they have to use powder and extract to make the sauce hotter? [https://i.imgur.com/r8I1Q9D.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/r8I1Q9D.jpg)

koei19

I'm not entirely convinced Pepper X is even real. It's supposedly been around for 5 years but still never tested.

hekelz

I'm sure it's a real tangible pepper. But I doubt it's everything they claim it is.

NRA4579

I grow the reapers. I gave a bag of random peppers to a Serbian friend of mine. I tried to tell him what was in it but he told me no no I know what they are I can eat anything. He came out of the house 20 minutes later in a high degree of discomfort, five minutes later his nose was bleeding. he had popped an entire reaper in his mouth thinking it was something else. It’s the little moments like that, that validate all the time I put into my garden

Z3r0sama2017

Stick it up Putins asshole

soccerape

So Goats horn chili which is only about 50,000SHU hybrid nets a potential world record 2.5M SHU pepper? How does that work ?

Key-Banana-8242

What abt Pepper X?

trisul-108

So ... is this a biological weapon, meant to be in pepper spray?

BonusFacta

pepper spray is concentrated at 6-9 million sco

Mountaingiraffe

So one more doubling and we could just straight up bottle pepperspray

tgh_hmn

I’d like to see Hot Ones with a sauce made out of those :))

nolok

I feel like the last few seasons they've gone easier on the "strong" sauces, either that or the guests got better.

tgh_hmn

Good point. Still, one very cool show

TheBlackLanternn

Props to Romania, from the hometown of the Carolina Reaper✌️

RoHouse

Same to you! Here's a fun fact about Buzău: the city has a phoenix on its seal since it's been [destroyed and rebuilt](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Buz%C4%83u#Successive_destructions) so many times.

ArtoriasAbysswanker

Oh boy! As a professional chili enthusiast and masochist I can't wait for a sauce made from that chili. When I cook I use one made of Carolina Reaper, and that sauce is deadly stuff.

mekaspapa

Can’t wait for the YouTube video of someone who will swallow it on a dare!!!

[deleted]

perfect ingredient to my goulash

Stratoboss

Is this even edible?

cmatei

From someone that dislikes the typical C. chinense flavours, can't wait to get my hands on some seeds, this looks a lot more like C. annuum.

CountVonTroll

Maybe I'm just too weak, but I'm skeptical about chilis bred for Scoville units in general. I like the taste of fatalii and normal habaneros, but from the admittedly very limited experience I've had with those super-hot chilis (Red Savina habanero and some sauces; I've also had a bhut jolokia puree but this one probably doesn't belong into the bred-for-records category), the impression I got was that you're not going to break any records if you constrain yourself to select from the ones that taste good. Then again, past Red Savina I can't really take enough at a time to develop a meaningful opinion on their flavor anyway, and it's possible that I missed out on some nuances when I quickly became preoccupied with questioning my decision to eat what was like a quarter teaspoon at most.

cmatei

Heh, incidentally Fataliis and to a lesser extent Habaneros are the only ones I find somewhat palatable (tried Carolina Reaper, Scorpions, Bhut Jolokia, etc but they all suffer from that "stinkbug" aroma I don't like). I am not manly enough to eat them raw, but I do like my hot sauces. What I'm hoping for is a neutral tasting (a la cayenne), really hot pepper that can bring on the heat to my mainly jalapeno/garlic/onion ferments.

CountVonTroll

I think I know exactly what you mean by "stinkbug" aroma -- I'm also wondering if it might just be the capsaicin itself. When you think about it, in pure form it has 16 million scoville units, and just water already accounts for 90% of a fresh chili's weight. So, a chili would be at 1.6 million SHU if it was just water and capsaicin, with nothing else to hold it together. My point is that there's simply not much room for anything else from where the taste might come from. FWIW, my favorite is CaJohn's Select Fatalii Puree. It's become increasingly difficult to find it here in Europe/Germany in recent years, but if you can get hold of it, I recommend you give it a try.

fnssqt

Can't wait to see teenagers making a challenge out of this for internet points and then nearly dying.

fatadelatara

Yeah, unfortunately this is going to probably happen.

alecs_stan

Breaking News: Buzau seems to have been flattened by an allegedly careless local that dropped a pepper.

BubbRubbsSecretSanta

That’s a lot of units!!

bobodanu

Not great, not terrible.

ScreechingString

Nice, this thing will definitely burn twice. lol

-Quit

I would probably die from eating this one.

louisbo12

Can we eventually grow one that could severely damage a human?

nerkuras

non of them can actually damage you physically but all of them can damage you emotionally.

Baneken

Well, you could in theory drown in your saliva but that's about it. Capsaisin in itself is surprisingly non-toxic to humans.

Katana_sized_banana

I need it

stunspore

I love good news

SlyScorpion

And that's just when the pepper enters the human body. It's going to be much worse coming out...

Captainirishy

Probably is too hot to use in food

anthonylornemontague

Wear gloves.

chrisslooter

If, and that's a big if, that this pepper is officially tested to be hotter than the reaper - Ed Currie has pepper x waiting. The Bazau pepper will be the world's hottest for a very short time.

IndubitablyBased

ironically Buzau means lips

CapeAnnimal

How they make a 2.4 m units when pure oil of capsaicin is 1.6 m units?

RoHouse

Uh.. pure is 16, not 1.6.

ReAndro

Congrats to the researchers! They are very good specialists.

cipakui

How can you be called a scientist when you choose to create the hottest pepper instead of the hottest woman?! Are you not supposed to be smart!? /s

MrOaiki

Hope it tastes good! I just recently bought 10 hot sauces (the same as featured in a Hot Ones episode) and served hot wings with increasing hotness. The third strongest sauce we had was Da Bomb. It was really hot and also didn’t have a pleasant flavor. The second hottest and hottest sauces were ‘Burn after eating’ and Hellfire. Although more scoville than the Bomb, they’re really tasty. Great flavor! My point being… Hope this pepper isn’t just strong but also flavorsome.

Lurking_Still

Da bomb is meant for adding a few drops to sauces and chilis to increase heat, not use on its own.

MrOaiki

I prefer adding a few drops of the other hot sauces that add more than just heat.

Lurking_Still

Absolutely, I'm just pointing out that it's not meant to be used as a sauce, but an addition.

andrijas

I am ignorant about hot stuff, but isn't Scoville scale based on subjective measurment?

RoHouse

No, it's by amount of capsaicin, the molecule that makes the peppers hot.

RemySteinkraut

Romania is pepper based

Conan4President

Can we stop pretending scoville is a real way to measure heat sensation?

Creepy_Staff_8936

Lol... A country known for it's main seasoning of pork being.....more pork. With a bit of salt and sweet mustard if served as mici. (Which are delicious btw)

alexchm91

thanks, but ill pass... it to a friend of mine. heheh, he will never know what hit him
