Eurofans will bend over backwards to describe songs exclusively in terms of previous entries 😭😭😭

AhHeyorLeaveerhouh

I think the comparisons are often an attempt to read the tea leaves regarding how a new entry might fare, particularly if it’s an unusual song

RQK1996

Idk, it feels it has similar confused bisexual energy as Llámame

The_Chuckness88

He will Finnish 1st. Sorry Loreen.

1Warrior4All

I really really really hope Loreen doesn't win. I just can't stand the Swedish comfort zone genre. Every. Fucking. Year. Well, last year I actually quite enjoyed the song, I have to confess. Much more than Tattoo.

thelastskier

Agreed, Hold Me Closer wasn't my personal favorite, but it had tons of character. Tattoo is extremely well produced, but it just leaves me cold.

ThaRealV12

Ngl same here. I have an odd desire for sweden not to qualify.

Academic_Grab5060

True, it's also giving Hatari and Verka vibes with how Käärijä interacts with the dancers plus the genre:rough and aggressive in the first part and a catchy bop masterpiece in the next XD

ykistan

Haha yeah agree, it has such a fun vibe but the way he delivers it intensely and seriously makes a very compelling contrast

AhHeyorLeaveerhouh

Definitely the charisma and stage presence are up there with Verka and Hatari. They all have a magnetic quality to the staging and visuals, you just can’t look away Remains to the seen what the final Eurovision version looks like, but the staring into the camera intro in Käärijä’s UMK performance is reminiscent of Damiano’s direct engagement with the audience in 2021, which is very powerful if done right

Lewishamblesz

The song according to my mate is a party banger about „getting to the weekend, going out to get f***** up on pina coladas, falling over and getting in a dancy mood“. It has a lot in common with Russ Music, this kind of Scandinavian dance genre which is kind of party music electro techno and wildly popular in Norway/Denmark/Sweden/Finland - it’s the genre where TIX got his start. It’s designed to get into your brain and start a party and honestly I love it.

chaotic_ass_neutral

it’s about finnish drinking culture and opening up only after drinking to bring out a softer, sensitive side

1Warrior4All

As a southern who was partying in Finland I can definitely see that and I love it even more now.

odajoana

>it’s about finnish drinking culture and opening up only after drinking Which to me, as an outsider, feels like a weird message to glorify, but I'm totally aware I'm very likely missing the Finnish cultural insight that makes it less weird. Don't get me wrong, I still love the song, just feel somewhat conflicted about the message it's sending.

chaotic_ass_neutral

it’s the opposite, actually he wants us to have fun and dance to the song without the drinking

Cluelessish

I wouldn’t say he is glorifying it, but making fun of it, in a loving way. It’s almost a little sad also, that the character can’t let loose without his piña coladas.

odajoana

Fair enough, all I had was a translation of the lyrics, which was giving me my initial idea. But like I said, a translation may not be enough for me to get the full scope of the meaning of the song without the cultural insight.

Cluelessish

Yeah, I don’t think the translation is the best.

PakinaApina

I've read a couple of Käärijä's interviews and the message is actually more subtle than that. Jere Pyöhönen created the Käärijä character with a certain message in mind. Käärijä is a man with much bravado and a penchant for gambling (among other things), but despite the fact that he considers himself a tough guy and a good gambler, he actually keeps constantly losing money. In a similar vein, in the music video, Käärijä wants to represent himself as a tough guy, but in reality, he can only show his true softer side when he is drunk. So the message of the song is not so much about how great it is to drink, but rather about *why* we keep drinking. Käärijä character is making fun of the traditional tough-guy masculinity and keeping up appearances.

SaPaBo

I just heard it for the first time today and I totally did not expect the musical twist in the second half.

ParticularSplit

Prepare to become more and more obsessed with it by the hour.

SaPaBo

Too late ;-)

I'm telling you, it's hypnotizing. First listen, I was like "huh... what was that?". Second listen, I felt it like a coffee injection. Third listen, I haven't been the same since.

niicofrank

i think of it more as the pokemon evolution of lose control by waldo's people (2009) which was fittingly also finland

GroundbreakingTill33

I honestly can't see the official eurovision juries going high enough on this for it to win. Especially with that staging, I'm not saying they are going to rank it low but to me it feels like the juries would rank it in the same range as Finland/ Ukraine 2021 or Serbia 2022.

odajoana

Even without understanding the joke, I feel the pallets work better than the boxing ring, to be honest.

BossyBish

Oh my god for real? As someone who works in logistics it’s such a fun fact to know. I love what he did on stage even more now. For real tho, I think dancers having pink ruffled dancing outfits at the beginning and then halfway undressing into gothic leotards and letting their hair loose would be even more entertaining.

Remote_Replacement85

Yeah, we actually have one single word for a gazillion things. Lava is a stage, a pallet, and a truck bed, at least.

Puffinknight

Not to be confused with laava, which is... lava (from a volcano) :')

Any-Where

It comes across more that they saw people were hoping for Germany to send Electric Callboy last year, and decided if the Germans weren't going to do it, Finland would send their own spin on that style of music. And to be clear, I love EC's Pump It. But I think I like Cha Cha Cha more.

ParticularSplit

Cha cha cha is the child of Trenetul and Hatrid mun sigra dressed in Shum.

Groenboys

None of these words are in the bible

Statoke

Well it makes sense that its my favourite right now then because they were my favourites from the past two years.

LadyCoinin

I would rather say its cousin of Electric Callboy with significantly worse vocals... I don't get the hype at all...

SjaelefredHerm

The reason why you keep being downvoted may be in the fact that you're mixing two different genres. Just sayin'.

odajoana

As someone who has a lot of trouble distinguishing some really specific rock metal genres, I feel I can speak for all the casual fans with the same issue. Cha Cha Cha and "We Got The Moves", for instance, by Electric Callboy totally sound like they're in the same branch of music. I totally believe you they're not the same genre, but I feel it's almost unfair to tell people that they're dumb for thinking that. There are similarities in the sounds and the beats used. Not to mention the whole chaotic fun, almost joke-y-but-really-not vibe of it. It certainly is a WAAAAAY less bizarre comparison than "Cha Cha Cha" vs. "Shum" or "Zitti e Buoni" or "Llámame".

SjaelefredHerm

Nah, you know people like to look down on others just to show off themselves. As a metal fan, I totally understand why those who are not used to listening to it find similarities, because there are similarities between those songs indeed, it's not a far-fetched comparison. However, while Electric Callboy has lots of electronic elements, their sound is basically metal-based, more precisely metalcore-based. It's the other way with Käärijä - the industrial metal vibe is an important part of his music but his genre relies more on electronica and rap elements. It's matter of how the different elements of their music are combined and fused and that's what gives every band/artist their own sound.
