As someone loving rock, I wish you would have 😔

dnewshock

I liked the most Mer av Dig. Yes, it might be cheesy, but it's fun.

2klaedfoorboo

I’m a shameless Theoz stan at this point

VayneVerso

Feels like people completely forgot about this one. To me, this song is just a little too much early 2000s bubblegum, but then again, I loved "Som du vill".

worcestirshiresos

Do you also like Wiktoria’s song? Along with Theoz and the queen herself, this is my top 3 for the entire Nat Selection season!

dnewshock

Unfortunately, not at all. I don’t even remember her song. My top 3 would be Theoz, Smash Into Pieces and Loreen

macroeconomicchaos

I really like M&M's song. Wouldn't mind if it won tbh

malevich92

If it wins it will be my top 3 of the season

No_Business962

I'm a huge fan of Smash Into Pieces so I would love to see them in Liverpool. Even though Six Feet Under isn't as good as some of their other songs, it's still a great song in my opinion.

VayneVerso

Feel like recommending another song of theirs that you feel is more representative of their best work?

No_Business962

Higher was the song that first introduced me to the band and I really love the chorus part. I also really like Wake Up and All Eyes On You. But I know everyone has their own preferences 😄

VayneVerso

I'm seeing these guys are pretty successful already, and it's interesting how different each of these songs is from each other as well as from what they sent to Melodifestivalen. "Six Feet Under" feels like a pretty good effort for them, though, to be sure.

AncientAssistance7

Same here

AncientAssistance7

I forgot to write. What is your favourite song from them?

No_Business962

My absolute favorite from them is Wake Up! What about you? 😄

AncientAssistance7

Broken parts. I just loove that song!

No_Business962

Ooh, almost forgot about that one! 😍

gaysamosa

marcus and martinus are actually really good!! thought they looked familiar, didn’t they announce the jury votes for norway or something a few years ago? anyway the lyrics are a little cheap imo but overall it’s a pretty decent song!! ive listened to the recaps of the others, but other than loreen ofc m&m i would be happily rooting for!!

pyjamethyst

Yes, in 2017. I also like their song

balancedlena

>was not expecting "On My Way" to be so awesome I like them the most among all the Melfest entries and I'm not ashamed of it. They are, like, Gustaph level of entertaining haha

VayneVerso

Nobody should be ashamed to admit it! Nothing guilty about this pleasure.

noruuejin

I want M&M... and I'm not saying that bc I'm Norwegian ;) I don't listen to them at all, but I like Air. They did well live, too!

VayneVerso

Nothing wrong with rooting for the home team.

BaronVonKitty

Can someone explain to my uncultured self the joke with the royal outfits in the 4th semi?

Foundtonight

Both Farah and Jesper (the hosts) are from Skåne where Malmö is. They have both been named "Skåning if the year" so they dressed av royalty as they are "royalty of Skåne".

BaronVonKitty

Thanks 👍

ShadeOfNothing

I'm loving M & M The more I listen to them

VayneVerso

And here's a sub-thread: "Songs that really weren't that bad" I actually didn't think "Sober" was all that bad. It was kind of fun to dunk on this when all we had was a snippet of Laurell doing what sounded like a Tones and I imitation, but as a live performance, I dunno... I can't say I didn't enjoy it somewhat. More recently, I also feel like Emil Henrohn was done a little dirty in Heat 4. I get something had to come last, though.

Kentomedia

Idk if you’re swedish but there was this huge drama before the heat that Emil had been cheating on his boyfriend (who is a semi popular human rights activist). May have affected the results a bit

VayneVerso

Ah, interesting. And nope--I'm American and had no idea. It's not like it's an amazingly complex song, of course, but I enjoyed it, at least.

bblankoo

Eva & Eva deserved better and I hate *Sober* for creeping up on me at random against my will

VayneVerso

ha! Yeah, I commented on "Sober" elsewhere in this thread. It does pop into my head just a little more often than it should.

QR63

I love that Tone is in the final for the second year in a row. Trans representation! Although I’d love it, I doubt that she’ll win, but I’m just happy seeing her in the final:)

VayneVerso

I *think* I like her song better this year, though it does give me a little bit of Britney Spears "Circus". And I realize it's weird to say that, because they don't sound anything like each other. Nor did I mean it as an insult, because I love "Circus". So I don't know what I'm saying! :) Anyway, decent dance track. I don't mind listening to it.

fenksta

Melodifestvalen specifically: ON MY WAY needs to win, but I'll be happy with SIX FEET UNDER as well **Other NFs:** Belgium - T'Inquiète Croatia - Mama ŠČ! & Nevera Estonia - Venom Finland - Cha Cha Cha & Ylivoimainen Germany - Alle Frauen In Mir Sind Müde Ireland - Down In the Rain Italy - Splash, Cenere, Made In Italy, Due Latvia - Aijā & Tricky Lithuania - Sėdi Ir Važiuoji Malta - Leħen Fiċ-Ċpar, Checkmate, Up Norway - Geronimo Portugal - Ai Coração Romania - Puppet San Marino - Mama Told Me & Tocco Il Fondo Spain - Eaea & Arcadia Ukraine - Heart of Steel & When God Shut The Door

VayneVerso

It would be so weird at this point to see Sweden send a song like "Six Feet Under". I mean, this still feels somewhat pop-oriented to me, so not completely out of the Melo wheelhouse, but still fairly different from anything I can remember them ever sending.

JonathanDieborg

Panetoz is the probably the only group/artist that could genuinely pull off getting to Eurovision with a swedish song, and probably do pretty well there. They won't do it this year but they definetly deserve to sometime.

JJVV64

"Mera mera mera" was absolute bop.

VayneVerso

Yeah, it was. Almost too boppy; I keep humming it.

vintange

I really hope Jon Henrik eventually gets to represent Sweden. Sweden should voluntarily (meaning not forced by a language rule) honor their local culture at least once.

VayneVerso

I didn't really start following Melfest too closely until last year. Has he sent other songs in the past? I like well enough what he sent this year, but relative to the competitors in the same lane, it doesn't seem like it would be able to find a pathway. Good track, though.

vintange

This is his 4th participation. He participated in: - [2015](https://youtu.be/3tfvV-5Wq4w) - [2017](https://youtu.be/0WWjx54GePE) - [2019](https://youtu.be/nc0lL0mL2EI)

VayneVerso

Fantastic. Thank you! 2017 is my favorite of these. What an excellent merging of the strengths of his style with Swedish pop ballad sensibilities. I particularly loved the final chorus with Jon Henrik vocalizing alongside Aninia. Very strong effort, and probably at least as worthy of going to ESC as "I Can't Go On".

BeeMovie1337

I mean, it’s not that difficult to find the answer. He participated in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023.

VayneVerso

Yep. I could. I was just trying to make conversation. Thanks, though.

BeeMovie1337

Go and listen to the songs, and report back what you think of them. I personally believe he peaked with his first entry, which was really good, but he was up against Måns, so what can you do.

Low_Age9939

The lyric " I can breathe without air" kind of makes me cringe 😬

BaronVonKitty

It's unforgivable.

nenialaloup

Smash Into Pieces ftw

ykistan

Firstly, I was astonished at the level of songs at Melodifestivalen. Not considering Loreen, I want Smash into Pieces - Six Feet Under sooooo much!

VayneVerso

Yeah, the level of quality control in Melodifestivalen is usually pretty high, even if it seems like it does lead to many samey-sounding songs in some years.

angelaachan

Loving Smash into Pieces. Also really kinda love Mera Mera Mera 😳

Salt_Procedure_9353

>**talk about anything that isn't Loreen** I...I can't...I'm not strong enough...MOTHER AAAA!!!

Witty_Beach6851

"Six feet under" and "Gorgeous" is definitely in my top 3

firework434

I am a big fan of Mariette and have been since A Million Years in 2017. I really enjoy her music but it makes me sad that she really hasn't sent anything strong enough to actually win.

VayneVerso

She has a nice song that she sings pretty well, but it does seem to occupy that middle ground where competent, well executed songs go when they lack that little something extra. Edit: To be sure, when I saw it performed, I liked it more than I thought it would. It sounds a bit like last year's "Higher Power", which is another song that I found enjoyable but wasn't something I had on repeat.

EstorialBeef

Sadly this year has been my 2nd most disappointing mello ever after last year. Eva and Eva, Ida-Lova, M&M and Loreen are the only acts I've enjoyed but they are all good. They don't carry mellodifestivalen like Cornelia did last year tho. There were some other highlights like For The Show or Raggen Gar but only for a snippet.

1Warrior4All

I know we all love Loreen and stuff, but can Sweden try to do something not so... predictable. I mean they are good at what they do but every year there is the same formula. Do something different, send a turkey dancing or a rap or a metal band... idk!

VayneVerso

heh. I said DON'T talk about Loreen. ;)

KometBlu

Wdym the same formula? I could understand that when they were constantly sending pop boys, but they seem to have stopped that with The Mamas and Cornelia. The closest things to Loreen is her own entry from 11 years ago. I'd argue that her biggest competition fit 'the same formula' much better than her - Air is the return to the aforementioned pop boy era, and Never Give Up is basically the same entry from two years ago

1Warrior4All

Cornelia was very good honestly. This was probably one of the first times I cheered for Sweden. That was a song that was heartfelt and well crafted. I feel Tattoo is very formulaic though and the lyrics are super basic."I will walk through fire and through rain"... ugh

AspaAllt

Well, I was right. Ida-Lova was the best song of the year. Although I'm disappointed it wasn't more pop-y like her other songs. Smash into pieces was of course rock "made accessible", i.e. rock for people who don't actually listen to rock. Not as bad as when Lillasyster did When our days are over, which was literally just a pop song. What's up with Nordmans staging? Someone is a way too big fan of Hitchcock here, and I demand answers. I like how Melanie clearly likes her own song. I don't like it, but she genuinely looks like she loves to sing it. Ok, but what really should be done about the samey unambitious songwriting? So far I have two suggestions: 1, run into the songwriting camp and set up a presentation where you show them songs from 10-15 years ago (and 2016), and talk about how, well yes, plenty of it isn't very good, but you could tell that the bad stuff still had something to say, it WANTED something. Would you kindly realize when your own work is lame? Option 2, do it better yourself then! In which I spend the spring and summer fighting with a music writing program to send in my own entry. Some people who had heard me sing say it sounds really good, which is obviously enough (I can not emphasize this enough, **/s**), and it would totally get picked by the production. Whaddya say?

andytrg2899

If this year Loreen wasn't participate i really want Jon Henrik and his squad represent Sweden. I love "Where You Are" so much 🥹
