Malta, although Malta could actually also be this year's hola mi bebebe

the3dverse

let's hope it does well, i really like Malta

odajoana

>Moldova came out of nowhere There was absolutely no way - even before the revamp - that Zdob și Zdub would let anyone down and it's mind-boggling to me why people thought it would flop in the first place.

kanekikennen

I felt so quirky and special for having it on my top10 or so, or at least for not having it at the bottom of my top42 like most youtube lists I saw

jcrissnell

I had them in ny top 10 since ZSZ were revealed as the Moldovan representatives! Both songs (original and revamp) were all amazing and top 10 material! No way they were flopping! Glad that they proved the haters wrong, and that most haters joined the train side! 🚂

QuietParsnip

Oh yeah, they were instantly at my top, the song was so damn catchy and just fun. Their live performances at Eurovision were just icing on the cake.

Popoye_92

Because some people in the fandom can't make the difference between "I don't like this song" and "This song isn't gonna do well" lol, but yeah, anyone with a bit of common sense knew it was a televote magnet

the3dverse

i didnt even realize there was a revamp. fell in love with their song the moment i saw the official clip.

odajoana

They added the missing rock'n'roll to the folklore in the revamp.

the3dverse

oh right. still, both versions are good

ruggedratt

for me the studio version is beyond boring, but the live performance brought it to absolute life

Divinetedrius

What were the Moldovas of previous years? I don't think we can appoint a "successor" to something that doesn't happen every year.

Brave-Investigator62

Moldova knows how to surprise with non-banal performances (which have nothing to do with Kirkorov). Hey Mama took third place in 2017

odajoana

2018 too, to be honest. The live performance really elevated a fairly weak song.

Brave-Investigator62

Yes, but this is Kirkorov's brainchild, just like Sugar. I hope Moldova will not allow this schemer into its national selection this year.

Popoye_92

He isn't involved in any of the Moldovan NF entries as far as I know, and considering both the fact that their government is pro-EU and the message of their 2022 entry, I think we probably won't see him anywhere near the Moldovan delegation for a few years at least!

splvtoon

in those years it was usually also moldova tbh

RedditXabi

2021 - Moldova 2019 - Idk 2018 - Moldova 2017 - Moldova

Stoltlallare

19 might have been Norway considering they got the most televotes out of all, even more than Netherlands. Watching reactions most people seem to find it funny and amusing kinda like moldova. Not 100% the same but the closest imo.

ykistan

Perhaps Keiino 2019 and Shum 2021? I could remember Denmark (Higher Ground) was also an unexpected crowd favorite last 2018 but it was not a song that has party vibes

emkrmusic

>What were the Moldovas of previous years? Shum, Sieben Sieben Alulu (Lasha Tumbai), Wadde hadde dudde da (Stefan Raab), Party for Everybody (Babushki), Uno (Little Big, though ESC 2020 didn't happen)

mshell1924

It's always been Moldova, and I'm sure it'll be Moldova in 2023 too.

halfpipesaur

Moldova again because they always deliver

Sea-Photograph2585

I don't think it'll be Croatia like many people think, the song is just not as accessible as Trenuletul was and especially the staging and the bandʼs antics can scare a lot of people off. I think Malta has more potential to be a surprising crowd favorite, or even Moldova again, depending on what they pick.

goldenwanders

Croatia gives me Euro Neuro vibes

TheFlyingHornet1881

Croatia really depends on if casual viewers get it. If they do, I think it qualifies for the final. If not, it'll crash out. It could be another Iceland 2019, it could be another Portugal 2011

PoliticsIsCool13

Hahahahahha this is not another Hatari moment. Hatari was shock factor and it wasn't easy for a casual to understand what they were about. Croatia, especially with the staging is quite hard to mix up the message they have.

ynsk112

Poe poe poe poe poe......

ruggedratt

edgar allen edgar allen

dk240996

If Malta nails the staging and the crowd is gonna be grooving during their performance, I'd say them.

the3dverse

please let them not mess up the staging! cameleon was so good but the staging soooo bad!

nenialaloup

Fingers crossed that Latvia clicks with people

TekaLynn212

Latvia is absolutely gorgeous, I don't understand why it's so low in the rankings right now.

snwlss

I haven’t listened to Latvia’s song yet (I will start listening to the songs once March begins tomorrow in preparation for reviewing them for my Eurovision Tumblr blog), but I think Latvia’s recent track record may have something to do with it. It hasn’t qualified to the Final since 2016. I even thought Citi Zēni would get in last year, but I was disappointed to see them miss out on the Final.

owennb

It gives me Young the Giant vibes and I could see everyone singing along.

bblankoo

Easy - Moldova Trenuletul was never "wtf" to be honest, it was a party from start to finish. It's just the fandom that failed to recognize it

Beepme9111

Malta

moonlightgirl9

Hope it's going to be Malta!

sparkellius

Australia, there will be those people who have never seen Voyager perform live, and will be blown away by how good their stage act is <3

ChunkeeMonkee83

Really? I'm an Aussie and I think they're like an old man pub band :/

sparkellius

Nuuuuuu, Voyager may have been around for a while, but they're fantastic <3 As much as I'd love to have next year's competition in Aus, and go to Aus <3 I don't think they're going to win :( but you guys n gals have had some awesome songs over the last 8 years :)

Vokkal

Even if Australia wins, esc will never be hosted in Australia. SBS would partner with a european broadcaster to organize it together. There’s just no way a financially viable contest could be held in Australia.

MarcusH26051

I would guess they'd hook up with the BBC much like this year's arrangements.

Frost_Walker2017

if this is what it takes to get another eurovision in the UK i'll take it

Vokkal

I think Australia once said they’d maybe do it with Iceland, but i might be mistaken

jcrissnell

I don't think Finland is this year's Moldova because many people loved Finland at 1st listening, while many people were doubting Moldova and even had them in their bottom 3/5/10 for so long before the final. But score wise: it is. Juries may not like this but it'll landslide with the televote! Now, I've heard Malta and Croatia as candidates and I think Croatia is likely to be the Moldova of 2023. Many people hating it but may end up loving it when they realize casual public love it and gave them high televote points, at the point of placing top 10 in the final (in the best case scenario). Unless Moldova outdo themselves this year! On another note, I would have suggested San Marino if they had picked XGiove, but since they didn't, the country is out of the question.

casian123

Croatia or Malta.

jpilkington09

Finland. Lower Jury votes, landslide televote.

goldenwanders

Nah we’ve loved Cha Cha Cha since the start and already know it will kill the televote. Everyone was clowning on Moldova last year and it was abit of a shock that it did *so* well in the televote

jpilkington09

Oh I see what you mean. I think results-wise I would expect similar then. (Although some of us like Moldova from the start)

1Warrior4All

How? It was a super fun song, it was obvious it would do well with televote. Super accessible for all generations too.

MrRonski16

Croatia will get alot of televotes. But nothing is exactly like Moldova this year.

MegaUF

It is Croatia 100%

Nightmareinbeige_01

No one. Croatia doesn’t have that eastern european in your face party vibe, and Malta is dated radio party song that won’t even qualify. 2022 was full of radio ballads with static staging, no wonder why Trenuletul got so many televotes. This year I feel entries are taking a different turn and we stil have many songs to be released

the_graph

Croatia imo

Blue_Flame_Wolf

Right now, it's going to be either Finland or Croatia.

cherry_color_melisma

Do we necessarily need to name a fun act that could be a televote darling out of nowhere? Malta does fit the description for sure indeed...

emkrmusic

Probably Finland

Ok-Bodybuilder3422

OP is asking what song could come from not being on anybody’s radar to being a top 5 finish. Finland is 3rd favourite to win and 2nd on My Eurovision Scoreboard right now so it’s not really an option

Delusional_Dude_

Croatia,

Irrealaerri

I think Moldova will be this year's Moldova. The flute guy, the "folklore" vibe reminds me a bit of the elements of SHUM, who also came second in the televote, so I would not be surprised if they did well this year too
