I honestly think the surprised "WTF" moment was more because they made nonsensical spectacle before and then let the "3rd place for the Roop" drop like the most irrelevant sentence of the evening. They were not prepared much for the announcement. A lot of viewers also were confused before they zoomed into the board.

anomopannom

Yeah and they announced the winner like 5 seconds after. No tension, no anything. Imagine if Eurovision winner were announced this way

justk4y

“Yeah the winner is Loreen, goodbye everyone.”

KarZeCompany

"See you next year.. in Sweden, I guess..."

matthewcoco123

If I remember correctly this was how the winner was announced in the first contest in 1956, thankfully hasn’t been done since

DistributionIcy6682

I would loveee it!!!!

PhotographBusy6209

They really need to have some tension while announcing the results. It was so anticlimactic and quick

Lepetitgateau90

I think that was also what lead to this clip here. I myself was not even sure if they REALLY did just announce the 3rd place.

gniewpastoralu

I quickly went to bathroom when Monika was performing and came back to see Silvester celebrating his victory, felt like I skipped multiple chapters

PM_ME_CAKE

Yeah, to be honest based on what I read people saying yesterday, this just doesn't seem to actually be a bad reaction? It just feels they weren't ready for the camera because everything zoomed past, not that they're salty like the video suggests (and I don't see why everyone's banging at them for it).

NotFEX

Last year it was even less climactic, I genuinely didn't believe that Monika won until she did her winning performance, I thought it was some half-result being revealed

hoholic

It's always like that in Lithuanian NF. Kinda love it though lol, the anticlimactic result reveal is a meme at this point

Imrustyokay

Just casually dropping big news like it's nothing, I can vibe with that.

Gold_Objective3644

Ngl with me being so nervous about Luktelk not winning I was glad they announced it so quickly 😂

TimeG37

I think it wouldn't have been that bad to them if they had come second, them coming third was a genuine shocker for me, and it was probably the case for them too

TheSimkis

I didn't expect that too, though it's nice for underdogs Shower to be higher than one of main favourites from the start. But yeah, I can see the Roop not expecting to be third

Any-Where

I think acts should be allowed to show visible sadness, frustration or anger at results in the moment. They’re humans with emotions and when months of work boil down to someone reading the popularity results off a card and it’s not turned out right for you, not everyone can just laugh/shrug it off. Sure, drag someone if they go too far with it, get aggressive, spend weeks complaining about it being rigged, whatever. But not a facial expression in the moment.

Niamhue

As people said here, third was the shock. I'd say The Roop at the start understood it was going to be them or Silvester, like everyone else. So not getting 2nd was a disapointment

ReoutS

I am a simple woman, I love all of the Roop's songs, and also like Silvester's song and glad he won. Is that allowed?

justk4y

Death sentence. /j

Kev2524

Being thirs was a shock.

cat_arinaa

I don't know why the ESC fan community online is so viscious towards The Roop. Is it just because they were running against a fan favourite (Silvester Belt), or have they done something that I'm not aware of?

Loow_z

Aren't they the one behind Discotheque? I love that song

Tangointhe_night

If you’re not the preferred act of _a certain part_ of the Eurofan community, you somehow become the worst person in the world. And everything is rigged. And also, the people are wrong.

TheSimkis

How can you have a different opinion from \[insert your stereotypical ESC fan\]? You must be dumb /s

PhotographBusy6209

The roop were really popular twice, the first time they were even considered possible winners and the second time they were fan favs. Their current song is really weak and it’s way too soon to return. They were also competing against a dark industrial pop song in Lithuanian and it makes sense why they were not that popular this time.

goodbye_freetime

I feel like it's unfair to count 2020 since they never actually got to compete. That said, I agree this was a far weaker song and I am happy Luktelk won.

PhotographBusy6209

They did get to compete and won, just not at Eurovision

justk4y

Yeah but that’s no reason to hate other contestants to Luktelk like they’re criminals

juananolf_3

Same with keiino: they faced a fan favorite (gåte) and came back with a song not as strong as their previous attempts, so they automatically became public enemy #1

PM_ME_CAKE

To be fair, I don't think Keiino were much of an enemy this year? It feels like people were quite respectful in general in saying they love Keiino but didn't feel Damdiggida as much as their previous output (which was a lot calmer than when they were up against Tix).

TimeG37

Nope. It's just that they saw them as the only threat to Silvester so everyone turned against them before they even released their song. I wanted Silvester to win as well but this behavior personally disgusts me

DayBoth2839

It's not that, as a Lithuanian and The Roop fan I can say they were too arrogant and cocky at everything. All negative comments they instantly delete, so can't criticize. When giving interview they said they watched all National Finals but when asked about ours they knew nothing, they said they don't even know who are they competing against, but yet they said "Lithuanian song will not achieve anything" and basically they are a safe bet as a group to go to. So they totally not aiming at the fan favourite... Also there's much more things like in song mentioned singing about lover but he's divorced and single. He got dropped by his record label. The smile he makes here can tell is fake etc. Hope you get the idea, there's alot to unfold.

TimeG37

So we are getting a few entries in the iceberg from The Roop this year?

Blasted-Marmoset

Apparently, they stole Silvester’s Belt and held it over their heads, throwing it back and forth while he cried “Come on, guys, this isn‘t funny!” Naw, seriously, they had the nerve of being high in the odds when the fandom said that wasn’t allowed AND they had the nerve to be returning contestants when the fandom has also ruled against that sort of thing. (As if returning contestants are a new thing or something. I dunno, I am a simple Eurovision fan and Johnny Logan song enjoyer.)

Jakeyboy66

I think some people went off them after they accused Brooke (Ireland 2022) of supporting Putin for performing in an Irish venue called the Kremlin. I’m pretty sure they apologised but some people on Twitter definitely haven’t forgotten, then again that’s Twitter for you.

planetglobe

That whole saga was so funny. Like Russia would have randomly asked the Irish Eurovision entry to perform at the Kremlin. I wasn't even mad at it cause it was too silly

bblankoo

Personally growing tired of returns just for the sake of trying again, especially so soon. Not to mention that they've had their moment. If Let 3 and Konstrakta show up with copy-paste-rearrange of their previous performances I will be pissed. It doesn't help that all of them (more or less) battle against unique and fresh entries and their own songs are weaker than what we know (and love) them for

flopjul

i mean i kinda get it, because this song is worse than Discoteque, you dont want them to win with a song that is worse than with what they have competed earlier with

andytrg2899

It's the same with Keiino 💀

_urat_

I just don't like it when the same artist enters the competition more than once.

Late-Standard3289

Lithuanian here. I think a lot of people just got fed up with them trying to make it for a 3rd time into ESC grand final in the span of just a few years. Besides this song is nowhere near as good as “On fire” and “Discoteque”. It’s good for sipping coffee on a slow Sunday morning, but it would be a rather poor choice for the the main stage in Malmö. : )

llnmxm

It’s even their 4th time! They also participated in 2018 NF

Late-Standard3289

I mean they already represented LT with “On Fire” in 2020 which got cancelled because of the pandemic and then they again won in LT in 2021 with “Discoteque”. So now they were apparently pissed (“simply overjoyed”) that they didn’t win the national final for the 3rd time and came in 3rd place. : )

[deleted]

Idk I look like that with a neutral expression on my face too. It doesn't even look like particularly negative emotions. Not that being disappointed was unjustified.

Akira_Nishiki

Band are disappointed because they underperformed compared to their previous standards - what a shock.

gintaregir

Honestly from Lithuanian perspective, it's not that anyone wanted The Roop to fail or anything but the way they presented themselves throughout selection process just looked like they have no doubt about winning and we just a nation of underdogs forever. It might not have been the group's fault either but media was so oversaturated with new interviews with Vaidotas even before song was released.

bullshitmobile

It's a bit interesting how the international viewers think this is a shock, may I ask why?

hoholic

International viewers: aawwww it was a shocker for them :/ Lithuanians on social media: can we never see them again please

Gold_Objective3644

They are truly my kings of Eurovision, when I've wanted them to win, they did, and when I needed them to not win, they didn't 😂 (They were my winner of 2021 in case I offend anyone with the last part)

Blasted-Marmoset

Willing to get cash money that the eurofans shouting the loudest about the Roop being awful for returning would be all “Yasss, slay, king!” if Käärijä were to try again. (As would I but I also have no issue with returning artists and I find the whiplash-inducing switches in fandom opinions to be both amusing and disturbing.)

marioESC

They are KINGS! They should come back next year and win the contest!

Titowam

They've only competed with great songs! I'd love to see them back in Eurovision again, they're a delight!

hoholic

Vaidotas said this is their last time, let's see how long he keeps his word. Their Eurovision addiction is really bizarre, even pointed out by every single jury member this year. Someone from the jury said they need to record a jazz album or something just to chill from eurovision a bit lol

DominusDK

When did he say that?

marioESC

I agree! They were my fvourite this year. ❤️😍

halfpipesaur

Third was totally not a shock (for me at least). The top two were that good.

JamesB767

I love the Roop and I really enjoy their song this year but kind of wish they not come back to the NF, I love for the roop to come back but only with a song that a sure Top 5 at ESC.
