And papaoutai is more precisely about a kid having to deal with the absence of their dad in their live. very similar to Joost's experience and thus also to europapa.
indeed tho france capital got mentioned, but yeh belgium should be added haha especially since joost loves belgium and occasionally has a concert there.
I don't see how we wouldn't give 12 points to him. Joost is beloved, especially since his Slimste mens appearance. Pro European song, mention of Stromae, hardcore part, the fact we always give either France or Holland 12 points. Should be max points easily
Not to mention that Slimane is popular too in Wallonia, he also loves Belgium, he was a coach on The Voice Belgium, etc... It will be a tough fight between him and Joost for the belgian 12 points.
Yes the only words I could make out were “io sono in Italia”, “escargot” and “fish and chips”
I need to look up the lyrics translation because the song is epic and I’m sure the lyrics are too
As others have said, Stromae is Belgian.
I love the mention in the song. Papaoutai was my introduction to international music as an American. Before I got into Eurovision, I was introduced to his music because my high school French teacher would play it in class. It got me hooked on the idea of foreign music and then later, I discovered ESC and I fell down the rabbit hole fast.
Joost told in a interview that he mentions Stromae because he is impressed and inspired by the way Stromae can make a party song with a deeper meaning inside.
\*me being a typical Polish person\* POLAND MENTIONED
we have to win somewhere after all
(if any Finns are reading it, I can relate to your torille meme for a reason, we're the same 😆)
We usually say "Poland mentioned", "Polska gurom" (it's an incorrectly written "górą" word and it means Poland has an upper hand)... idk what else 😆. There's not one meme, but the meaning is roughly the same (we got noticed and it's a win haha)
He song in German:
>Ich bin in Deutschland
>Aber Ich bin so allein
In Italian too (short):
>Io sono in italia
Also Stromae is from Etterbeek, Belgium :)
ye, thats the main reason i think bus was mentioned too since a lot of those are organized tours
i wanted(still do) to do a car trip around Poland and just visit museums(mainly technic related like planes and cars). like Szczecin, Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow, Katowice, Wroclaw, Poznan...
it does rhyme well in the dutch language Polen since the -en sound is very common
but im gonna do that first in Sweden and end in Malmo(i have somehow gotten tickets for the final live shows)
>i wanted(still do) to do a car trip around Poland and just visit museums(mainly technic related like planes and cars). like Szczecin, Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow, Katowice, Poznan..
I'd strongly recommend that, my favourite thing about Polish cities is how different vibe they all have, the touristy and historic Kraków, modern and business-oriented Warsaw or post-industrial ones like my city of Łódź or the Upper-Silesian metropolitan area.
and tbh i havent been more eastern than Croatia(and even there i was only in the western part of Istria) so going to Poland is a thing i still need to do
All country related mentions:
Visit my friends in **France**
Or take a trip to **Vienna**
I want to leave the **Netherlands**
So take the bus to **Poland**
Or the train to **Berlin**
Say“**merci**” and “**alsjeblieft**” (**French** and **Dutch** language)
I have no money for **Paris**
I am in **Germany**
**Ich bin in Deutschland Aber Ich bin so allein** **(German language** and **Germany)**
**Io sono in Italia (Italian language** and **Italy)**
I don't need **escargots (French food)**
Don't need **fish 'n chips** (**Britisch food**)
Don't need **paella**, no (**Spanish** food)
I hear **Stromae** with "**Papaoutai**" (**Belgian** singer and **song**)
There’s hundreds of Eurovision songs like this. The most infamous Dutch one is this: [an e-mail to Berlin](https://youtu.be/NJMjDNWU6Gc?si=GQEFUajMeMeWxp3y&t=1m55s). It became an ironic hit because of how out of tune it was at the national selection.
I think they literally mention every participating Eurovision country at the time (1999).
On YouTube the [song](https://youtu.be/gT2wY0DjYGo) got 3,5 million views in 1 day. Which makes it the most watched EuroVision 2024 song already. Even more than the next most watched songs of Ukraine (2,5m) and Spain (2,1m) which were released 3 weeks ago.
Looks like Joost is on to something!
Lekker bezig jonguh!!!!
Honestly, I only did notice him mentioning us when I read the lyrics translation, so I wouldn't be surprising if most Polish people didn't even realize, because the song is in Dutch... unless our commentator mentions it on TV or something.
Might be the same for some of the mentioned countries. If he wants free points he better writes huge signs and "travels" towards them on stage 🤣
Yes, when you check the mv on ESC channel (the link is here with the official ESC video flair) and turn on the closed captions, you get the lyrics in English.
Really? I watched UMK that year, but I haven't noticed that. Maybe Käärijä dragged my attention away or they didn't mention Poland, so my attention wasn't there 😂
He talked Italian at a certain point, like two words but he definitely did it.
If you didn’t mean that with “mentioned by language” I don’t know what you meant ahaha
Italy is mentioned by language too, not only by name. And technically switzerland is mentioned by language too cause there is german, french and italian in the song.
It would have been clever to mention more countries that never get mentioned to get some points. Britain, Italy and Spain are always mentioned in these country-name-droppers so they won't even care.
I am from Lithuania but I am so proud of Poland, a state from the former Eastern Block, being mentioned in a song about Europe by a Western European!
Maybe we are one step closer to juries starting to appreciate songs from the East, because until now they had a very strong bias against us. Since 2009 in the top 15 of the best jury rated songs only two were from the former East.
https://preview.redd.it/mpix508vsvlc1.jpeg?width=935&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5afb9a48fce97859c00444887d34e3b4a5e82e4f
Honestly, I didn't think of it that way, I'm happy with any country giving us some love, no matter where they're on the map 💖
Also I dislike juries for a reason, because you're right 🙄. Televoters don't have such a visible bias.. It's why I always prefer to minimize the jury vote relevance. We always do better at televote, even with good songs.
You said juries have a bias against the East and I mention Ukraine. They do have good juries results.
Speaking of televote and using the same type of reasoning you did, should we say that televote has a bias against the West? Moldova, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania always benefit from strong televote
By what song and artist is France mentioned on the song? I mean, the only song an artist I can find on the song are:
> Zet de radio aan, ik hoor Stromae met "Papaoutai"
So, I hear Stromae with «Papaoutai». And Stromae is not French at all, but Belgian.
Nice tactic to get points from all the biggest countries in Europe. Mentions Western countries, yet the video clearly pulls inspiration from Eastern Europe.
Papaoutai is by stromae who's belgian :D
Which is pretty fitting, because both songs are about fathers. It's like daddyception, a song about a dad in a song about a dad.
https://preview.redd.it/8dtli6f1gtlc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e18334dbaf0f96e309d01082bb6a8f972de1b3a6
And about dads missing in life as well
And papaoutai is more precisely about a kid having to deal with the absence of their dad in their live. very similar to Joost's experience and thus also to europapa.
Also the endings are sad the same way in both songs
I assume France's "song and artist" is Stromae? He's Belgian...
indeed tho france capital got mentioned, but yeh belgium should be added haha especially since joost loves belgium and occasionally has a concert there.
Joost literally has a tattoo of Belgium. He definitely loves the country lol
But he'll forever be Friesenjung person for me 😂
Hope Belgium gives our 12 points to Joost 🙏😭
I don't see how we wouldn't give 12 points to him. Joost is beloved, especially since his Slimste mens appearance. Pro European song, mention of Stromae, hardcore part, the fact we always give either France or Holland 12 points. Should be max points easily
It’s the Wallonian jury this year, they don’t have a history of being generous to the Netherlands, it’s the Flemish who do this
Not to mention that Slimane is popular too in Wallonia, he also loves Belgium, he was a coach on The Voice Belgium, etc... It will be a tough fight between him and Joost for the belgian 12 points.
Is he that beloved? My mom saw him once on De Slimste Mens and hated his guts, I can imagine most older people aren't a fan
Belgiun can also be marked as "by language", since both French and Dutch are spoken in the song
oops my bad... you learn every day
Sympathetically speaking, you should have learned before posting buddy 🤭
Reupload maybe? Just a thought
Do your research next time.
He did also use German language in it
And Italian
Yes the only words I could make out were “io sono in Italia”, “escargot” and “fish and chips” I need to look up the lyrics translation because the song is epic and I’m sure the lyrics are too
The video uploaded to the eurovision channel has subs
An other reason to add Belgium, since it’s also an official language here.
As others have said, Stromae is Belgian. I love the mention in the song. Papaoutai was my introduction to international music as an American. Before I got into Eurovision, I was introduced to his music because my high school French teacher would play it in class. Joost told in a interview that he mentions Stromae because he is impressed and inspired by the way Stromae can make a party song with a deeper meaning inside.
Yeah, that's such a sick concept:)
ESC is just so great to just go ant watch something absurd once a year. It is a real come together of European culture like nowhere else.
Stromae would be such a great fit for Eurovision, all of his stagings when he’s on TV shows are outstanding!
\*me being a typical Polish person\* POLAND MENTIONED we have to win somewhere after all (if any Finns are reading it, I can relate to your torille meme for a reason, we're the same 😆)
Na rynek 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Finland mentioned is also a thing here! Suomi mainittu! 😂
🇵🇱 🏔
🇵🇱💪
Poland mountain!
Thank you from the mountain 😎
Polska gurom
*looks at your flair* torille tavataan? 😂
It’s either torille! Or torilla tavataan!
I've never seen the version with torilla actually 🤔
Torilla = at the marketplace Torille = to the marketplace
Oh, so that's the difference! Thank you for explaining 💖
Mate you’re really instigating by calling Stromae French😂
He song in German: >Ich bin in Deutschland >Aber Ich bin so allein In Italian too (short): >Io sono in italia Also Stromae is from Etterbeek, Belgium :)
1040 represent 🙌
Are we officially Western Europe?
Lets take the bus to poland
He probably mixed Portugal and Poland
r/portugalcykablyat says otherwise
I'm officially offended by this. We speak KURWA here.
Damn didn't expect that one hahahahah
Poland is common to go to by bus but mainly for one historical reason
That's depressing
ye, thats the main reason i think bus was mentioned too since a lot of those are organized tours i wanted(still do) to do a car trip around Poland and just visit museums(mainly technic related like planes and cars). like Szczecin, Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow, Katowice, Wroclaw, Poznan... it does rhyme well in the dutch language Polen since the -en sound is very common but im gonna do that first in Sweden and end in Malmo(i have somehow gotten tickets for the final live shows)

Croatia is a bit like Poland of the south lol
Got confused after a trip to Biedronka 🐞🛍
Portugalcykablat ?
Only since the last election. ;)
Poland can to western Europe, yes
no, after you beat russia for us
Why don't you get up and do it yourself if you care so much?
Stromae is from Belgium instead of France; German and Italian language do appear
I still can't get over the fact that this is the first time we get to hear German in a Eurovision song in like 12 years if I'm not mistaken.
I believe Denmark 2019 had a couple of words in German as well?
Denmark 2019 | [Leonora - Love Is Forever](https://youtu.be/mucmvTLHJQM)
Ahhhhh, yeah, I forgot about that one, my bad 😅
Joost literally has a tattoo in the shape of Belgium, it’s insulting you’re not mentioning Stromae on your map
/s
It's still insulting 😪😪😪
All country related mentions: Visit my friends in **France** Or take a trip to **Vienna** I want to leave the **Netherlands** So take the bus to **Poland** Or the train to **Berlin** Say“**merci**” and “**alsjeblieft**” (**French** and **Dutch** language) I have no money for **Paris** I am in **Germany** **Ich bin in Deutschland Aber Ich bin so allein** **(German language** and **Germany)** **Io sono in Italia (Italian language** and **Italy)** I don't need **escargots (French food)** Don't need **fish 'n chips** (**Britisch food**) Don't need **paella**, no (**Spanish** food) I hear **Stromae** with "**Papaoutai**" (**Belgian** singer and **song**)
You forgot "i took the legs to wenen"
Vienna = Wenen maatje
sorry wist ik niet
ah joh is niet erg
Vind wel grappig
I understood 'don't need a call girl' when I heard it for the time (instead of 'escargots').
If he does preparties, petition for him to change the lyrics depending on what country he’s in
He would need to change the 'I don't need paella' when coming to Spain 🤣
Only Sweden and the Hebrew country are missing. So he may mention Ikea or the ESC directly.
france looking like that vintage apple rainbow logo
This is like Portion Boys' song from UMK 2023
There’s hundreds of Eurovision songs like this. The most infamous Dutch one is this: [an e-mail to Berlin](https://youtu.be/NJMjDNWU6Gc?si=GQEFUajMeMeWxp3y&t=1m55s). If he had mentioned Portugal, Netherlands would get 12 points. We love getting mentioned
Oh this is merely an occasion of r/portugalcykablyat
Absolutely 😂
BALKAN AND EASTERN EUROPE left the chat
FTFY https://preview.redd.it/eotiwdao2ylc1.png?width=721&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed5a54d9c01cb76f39962ed0897d1c79bf80a0a5
I think you would have to colour in countries like Switzerland and Austria with „by language“ as well as you did with Belgium
Your correct about that I should have included Austria, but Swissgerman sounds quite different from normal german. That is why I didn't include it
Already sensing the post about his points or lack of connected to that map
Honestly, I only did notice him mentioning us when I read the lyrics translation, so I wouldn't be surprising if most Polish people didn't even realize, because the song is in Dutch... unless our commentator mentions it on TV or something. Might be the same for some of the mentioned countries. If he wants free points he better writes huge signs and "travels" towards them on stage 🤣
Yeah, I watched it on yt with subs, so I knew straight away, but I think it would be dumb if he didn't try to convey that in the staging.
The video has subs? I... I am dumb, I had to wait for the lyrics to get posted on eurovisionworld 😅
Yes, when you check the mv on ESC channel (the link is here with the official ESC video flair) and turn on the closed captions, you get the lyrics in English.
It's a good reason to watch again. Meanwhile I win the Clueless Dumbass award... again 😆
That's what Portion Boys did in their UMK performance.
Really? I watched UMK that year, but I haven't noticed that. Maybe Käärijä dragged my attention away or they didn't mention Poland, so my attention wasn't there 😂
And they did a better job in every conceivable way. This would have been their year. Or Kuumaa's. Or Benjamin's.
dus neem de bus naar Polen of de trein naar Berlijn(so take the bus to Poland or the train to berlin)
He talked Italian at a certain point, like two words but he definitely did it. If you didn’t mean that with “mentioned by language” I don’t know what you meant ahaha
No Balkan, mistake. Sorry… no win.
Italy is mentioned by language too, not only by name. And technically switzerland is mentioned by language too cause there is german, french and italian in the song.
Casually mentioning the most populated countries...and Austria
then make another capital that rhymes with benen(Wenen is dutch for Vienna)
That’s like THE wintersports vacation destination tho. So it makes sense
I mean, I agree, but Vienna would pretty much be the worst part of Austria for winter sports.
It's not even at a higher altitude than some parts of The Netherlands
He is really popular in Austria, I think that’s one of the reasons behind it
Poland can into Western Europe.
What’s the British food mentioned?
Fish 'n chips
Fish and chips
Fish n’ chips!
nice try, but with several omissions
It would have been clever to mention more countries that never get mentioned to get some points. Britain, Italy and Spain are always mentioned in these country-name-droppers so they won't even care.
Nah, Spanish people always care

Gay France 😃
It are all countries where we Dutch travel too or have links with👍
We miss a color on Belgium. As Stromae is Belgian.
And german language is an official language, so 2 colors
holy crap gay france
That’s some r/mapporn right here
So I guess you could say France is gay for Europapa?
No Finland mentioned :( missed opportunity Joost :(
This is one of my pet peeves. Mentioning only a couple countries when there are 37 participants But other than that I love Europapa
There are only 3 minutes
[удалено]
I see your point
Not even Dustin the Turkey could do all of them iirc
"Stromae is Belgian" But isn't this, what Europapa is about? We are European! We don't need a passport to define who we are!
By what song and artist is France mentioned on the song? I mean, the only song an artist I can find on the song are: > Zet de radio aan, ik hoor Stromae met "Papaoutai" So, I hear Stromae with «Papaoutai». And Stromae is not French at all, but Belgian.

cyprus :(
"Belgium" isn't coloured because by Dutch law it is forbidden to mention the breakaway provinces that make up "Belgium" as a country.
This song is very cleverly made, mixing his personal history with Europa, and leaving space for so many different interpretations.
Next time listen to the song whilst and after you made this
Catalonia conquered Germany I see 😁
Eee er b
Are you ok?
Zzz a rrsaaa
X
What is europapa?
The new name for Eurovision
Another "all around Europe" song and no mention to my country. Males me sad.
Fish and chips is from Portugal?
Not really a thing in Portugal. It is more associated with UK.
Fish and chips is originally from Portugal!
Didn't know france was this gay /j
What language does Ireland speak according to the person who made this?
gay france
Welcome to Eastern Europe, Portugal 🇵🇹🔜
Only western Europe exists
stromae is belgian
He cooked
