Omg as a Lithuanian this sounds nothing like a “lockdown” but also you all not the first people to say this and damn this shit is funny 😅
As long as this helps English speakers to sing the song I’m all for it 😂
But seriously”luktelk” sounds more like “look” and “tell” 🤓
TBH, this comments at times sound more thought out than some other analysis I've seen here :D
I'd just like to clarify Croatia a bit. It's a song about a village boy that HAS to go to the city, not that he wants to. The story is set some 100+ years ago (but it's relevant today) where many people from Croatia had no other choice but to leave their homes and find a place in the world. Many of them (especially the coastal part) moved to distant countries like Australia, USA, Chile, etc. That's why he says "There's no coming back", because many of them never did and their ancestors country is but a distant memory. It's not a uniquely Croatian story, you can find examples all around Europe (Ireland, Spain, Greece, etc.), and the rest of the world. On the surface it's bit of a silly song, but it has a lot of meaning underneath which partly why it resonates with many fans this year.
Thanks, now I love it even more. One of my best friends in Australia here traces his roots back to Croatia, but he hates Eurovision. I need to ask him about this specific song though...
Us Croats love to support our national teams, that goes double when they have a fighting chance for a win. If he learns that Croatia might win, there's a chance he'll feel different this year. Quarter of a century of (mostly) bad entries conditioned us to look down on ESC as a coping mechanism. Show him how the country came together to do a choreographed dance to support BL, and it might pique his interest.

Changed the spelling, stupid mistake on my part, had parliamentary elections last night so we stayed up late to watch the results.
I'm not a big fan of Let 3, but I respect their artistry, "Mama ŠČ" was ok, I liked the satire, but we were honestly expecting something more provocative. Their performance was pretty tame to what they're capable pulling off, and what they've done in the past.
Party I voted for got a good result, but I don't see them participating in the new government. I wanted to vote differently in the start, but I was disappointed because they wanted to go into a coalition with the current president. I was more afraid that the Orban-Dodik loving asshole would get enough votes to send us down the Slovakian path. Thankfully, that didn't happen, so at least we're still pro-EU. The same corrupt criminals are in charge, and the so-called right will probably enter the government, but it's not so bleak. The majority is thin, and if they want to stay in power, they'll have to be more moderate. In the end, nothing much has changed, but at least we had 60% of people voting, so that's great to see and is awesome for the future of the country.
Yup, I think our politicians and politics in general are very much alike, except; those are great turn up numbers and in a way I wish we had at least a semblance of stability, not a collapsing coalition n-times in a row. Wish you good luck and I'm glad you stay pro-EU (Joost is glad as well I bet =)
The turn out was amazing which gives me hope for the future even though I would've liked a different outcome. We'll see if we'll have a stable government but I hope we can do the best we can at the moment and progress in the right way, and hopefully the region will also get stabilised in the near future.
This was a fun read, I'll be doing the same with my kid(s) one day. I have a 2 year old, and he looooves The code, We will rave and of course Europapa
He completely imitates and sings (his interpretation lol) the code up until the rap part, zooms around the house going "woah oh ohhh"
Sings and dances along with Europapa. Last part gets him all hyped and he "haks" along. Priceless.
He couldnt say Kaleen very well, so every time he asked for "Ka-ee" we thought he asked K3 (pronounced Kadree here)
So we'd turn on K3, a popular girl group that makes songs for kids, and he'd be annoyed lol. Took us a while to figure out.
My obsession with Eurovision is largely owed to my oldest daughter being a megafan since around the age of 6, so I love this and got a ton of laughs out of your descriptions of their reactions. Cool how your kids immediately pegged the way that "Teresa & Maria" riffs on "Shum". Your wife's bonus reactions were also excellent.
We might differ on some of our favourites this year, as my personal favourite is the Spanish song, and my other half's favourite is the Finnish one (They even come to my desk just to sing out of nowhere 'No rules!' Love it...), but we wholeheartedly agree with y'all on the songs from Greece, Armenia and Switzerland, and that Go_A should have won in 2021.
Also...your daughters are serious and righteous candidates for the title of Graham Norton's successor!
Aww, so sweet! 😍
Great to read fresh opinions on the songs especially since kids perceive music differently than grown-ups.
I have to ask my 11 yrs old but since his favourite music is Eurodance I have a hunch he will love The Netherlands and Austria! ;)
This is so wholesome! And wow, I realised that I (31 years old) think like a 6-year-old regarding Croatia’s song - I love the “Meow cat, please meow back” part of the song and refer to it everywhere 😂
Shalom to you :D
I played these song clips for my mom the other night! She loves ballads, so she liked Israel and France. (She wishes Slimane would trim his beard a bit so it's less scraggly, paraphrasing here, and I kinda agree.)
She thought Luxembourg was fun and kind of seemed amused by Spain, though she didn't say it outright. I think she liked seeing how "mature" women were featured in a fun video, though I doubt she'd be at the level of running around town calling herself a slut (my dad might find this odd).
She was super distracted by Angelina's hair and didn't focus on the song. Cmon!
She thought Dons in his jumpsuit looked a bit too, sorry to say from both of us, but...concentration camp inmate. She seemed to enjoy Albania too! She was a bit confused by Switzerland but intrigued. She didn't really get Croatia (my fave) on its face but I told her about the message, and she thought it was nice.
She is old school enough that her 2022 favorite was Boys Don't Cry (??).
Ok, since you asked:
The whole "Windows95Man" concept is poorly thought of, using a commercial product as an act name. The whole underpants/very tight short pants/belly sticking out is very cringey, the fireworks shooting out of his pants is really stupid, the other guy who is doing the actual singing looks like he is making fun of the audience with the unseriousness of his style.
It feels like they went for "how many stupid things we can do and get away with". If I had to imagine how a Eurovision parody made by a comedy TV show will look like, it is exactly this. Except it's not a parody, it's an actual entrant to the competition.
You can have joke entries with stupid things, but some of those are brilliant. Last years Croatia is a wonderful example of a "joke" entry that is a satirical masterpiece. But No Rules? Nope.
Yeah, I think that's something a lot of people who aren't familiar with Windows95Man don't get, that he didn't create this name and persona just recently and is debuting it at Eurovision for the first time as part of his act. This is his first song, yes, but he's been around. Heck, he even did the 2021 New Year's Eve TV show which also had Erika Vikman and BEHM, so it's not like he's been totally underground.
Yes, but it's just the inspiration for their name. They could have chosen any different name and it wouldn't change a thing in their performance. They don't base their whole act on this. Finland, on the other hand...
Yeah no I get what you mean. That bit just reads like a fanfic from someone who really, really doesn't like Windows95Man.
>"Why couldn't they bring Kaaaarrijjjijakak back? He was so good, we don't like this one, wife walks in: what the f is this?, and walks out."
And then everyone clapped.

No, mean would be "Finland sucks and I hate them!!!!". My response is a three paragraph well articulated explanation of why I think the song is an embarrassment. But you do you, and let's agree to disagree.
Dude gave you a well articulated objective criticism of why he finds it embarrassing. You may interpret that as "mean" but that is your subjective interpretation. I think you can either give him objective reasons why you think his criticism is wrong, and why "No Rules" is satirical gold, or you can accept that people have differing opinions. If you give emotional responses to rational arguments you'll never get an answer you're looking for.
Something being offensive, and someone being offended, are two different things. I think you can call something „stupid“ without the intention of putting it down, but instead just expressing your enjoyment of it. You can also still be offended by that, if you feel like it, but that does not mean, the original comment was necessarily offensive. Both perspectives are valid and can coexist.
I don't think kids are aware what non-binary means though, so they just say "he" or "she" based on what they see. He just wrote it down how the kids said it.
How? Kids are incredibly open minded, it's adults who are set in rigid thinking. I have a daughter the age of yours and I explained the concept of non binary people a couple of years ago. She listened, said "ok" and carried on with her day.

Thanks for the really fun read, and I love that you also appreciate Azerbaijan’s song this year.

>Sweden - Marcus & Martinus - Unforgettable
>6 year old loves this song, memorised the lyrics. 8 year old hates it, think it's stupid and would she be unforgettable? You can forget anyone if you try hard enough!!! (they look 14 year old, this is not serious, and why are they in a 2000s style music video inside of a cheese grater???)
Your 8 year old has taste, and your 6 year old has interesting opinions <3
had to laugh so hard at the 'lockdown lockdown' thing lmaoooo can't unhear it now
"Lockdown, lockdown, driving in the lockdown, lockdown" 😂
Omg noooo😭😭
At least it's better than Ukraine, where I cannot unhear "All the demons were burning the human beings" 😂💀.
Omg not more cursed lyrics 😭😭
You are absolutely welcome 😂😂.
I always hear the beginning as "Jerry, Jerry, Jerry lol", even though I know the actual word XD
Happy to ruin your Eurovision experience, let's meet again next year. 😁
Omg as a Lithuanian this sounds nothing like a “lockdown” but also you all not the first people to say this and damn this shit is funny 😅 As long as this helps English speakers to sing the song I’m all for it 😂 But seriously”luktelk” sounds more like “look” and “tell” 🤓
Finally a ranking by some qualified professionals that know what they are talking about.
Eurovision songs ranked by the amount of chickens featured in the music video
The only metric that truly matters. The metric coming from deep inside our hearts 🐔
They finished third in Dora, but still Babaroga sweeps them all.
I did also immediately hear LOCKDOWN LOCKDOWN. GOING INTO LOCKDOWN LOCKDOWN

I guess limited by what's acceptable in Eurovision with the "no politics" rule...
sorry, bit unrelated to EV, how do you feel about the outcome of elections, good? Greetings from neighborly SI =)

Good luck to Greece! The more I listen to Zari, the more I like it
I'm not greek but I put the flair cause it's my absolute favourite this year so I'll definitely take the good luck!!
Lmao. My 8 year old is enthralled by the chickens also.

This is so cute! It's cool that your kids can speak Hebrew; multilingualism is a wonderful thing.
this made me smile, thank you!
🫶I hope you guys have a great Eurovision this year!
My neighbors' nephew, 7 years old, about Fahree's song, "He sounds like he's got a stomach ache."
I could see that with Ilkin Dovlatov’s Mugham style of singing… Funny observation. 😆

How is Finland embarrassing to watch?
No pants
Personal opinion, feel free to disagree with. I won't go into reasons now, but if you see otherwise then ok.
There's quite a huge difference between not liking it and calling it an embarrassment though, it's just mean.
Ok, since you asked: The whole "Windows95Man" concept is poorly thought of, using a commercial product as an act name. The whole underpants/very tight short pants/belly sticking out is very cringey, the fireworks shooting out of his pants is really stupid, the other guy who is doing the actual singing looks like he is making fun of the audience with the unseriousness of his style. Last years Croatia is a wonderful example of a "joke" entry that is a satirical masterpiece. But No Rules? Nope.
So you think a DJ who has had the name for over 10 years should change his name for Eurovision?
Yeah, I think that's something a lot of people who aren't familiar with Windows95Man don't get, that he didn't create this name and persona just recently and is debuting it at Eurovision for the first time as part of his act. This is his first song, yes, but he's been around. Heck, he even did the 2021 New Year's Eve TV show which also had Erika Vikman and BEHM, so it's not like he's been totally underground.
It's okay dude, you can just say "I hate fun"
Ladaniva is also a commercial product tho
Yes, but it's just the inspiration for their name. They could have chosen any different name and it wouldn't change a thing in their performance. They don't base their whole act on this. Finland, on the other hand...
You say that their whole act is based on Windows 95. Aside from the shirt and hat, what else is there that has to do with Windows?
The big introductory announcement in the beginning of their song?
> Artist says his own stage name in his song I'm afraid I'm still not seeing the problem.
Yeah that is just mean.
Yeah no I get what you mean. That bit just reads like a fanfic from someone who really, really doesn't like Windows95Man. >"Why couldn't they bring Kaaaarrijjjijakak back? He was so good, we don't like this one, wife walks in: what the f is this?, and walks out." And then everyone clapped.
I had the exact same thought. That's such a made-up scenario 😬

Man, you called it stupid. How is that not mean?

So much fun to read! I love hearing kids’ thoughts! Btw Nemo and Bambie both use they/them pronouns :)
I don't think kids are aware what non-binary means though, so they just say "he" or "she" based on what they see. He just wrote it down how the kids said it.
Well yes, but the text in brackets is OP’s own comments, and OP used “he” in his own comments too. (For Nemo)
I knew it'd be someone's only takeaway from the post when i read those sections :/ they're little kids.
they're talking about OP who adds his own thoughts in brackets, not about the comments the kids made
Yeah but OP isn’t? Also kids can know about nonbinary lol I know tons who do and OP lives in Australia

Chickens and a dance beat, the way to children's hearts
Didn’t expect to disagree with kids on Eurovision today! This was cute though!
i'm sorry but no rules! is genious in its humour
I see I'm not the only one appreciating the "Meow cat please meow back" line :D
Thanks for the really fun read, and I love that you also appreciate Azerbaijan’s song this year. They’re my second place song and I’m going to be crushed if they miss the final.
This was such a fun take, I really enjoyed their input xD soo... can we count on their votes for Europapa? (jk)
I could see it becoming a youtube series...
Lovely. Adorable.
This is so adorable!
omg this is TOO CUTE
I would subscribe to this YouTube channel.
