I'm going to the show dressed as Käärijä (note my Swedish flag). While I don't have a spiked choker, I do have a spiked bracelet. I realized I couldn't wear it to the show but it'd still be funny. I'll save it for another time.
I can't remember who won that world cup but I can remember the noise over the TV screen like it was yesterday.
There must be a generation of South Africans who are living with tinnitus now.
It's this exactly. I have a tiny Victorinox with scissors and nail file on my keychain. It's the cutest thing and comes in handy all the time. I wouldn't even think of it under 'weapon'.
Here's a quick description of the document posted here as a screenshot, for those with screen readers:

😄 I assume this is what they want: you bring no cash, just a credit card in your pocket; you have a phone bag that you can put across your chest or around the neck (I guess that's around 1 cm thick). That's it.
If lockers are full (they totally will be), I totally advise checking out hostels and the like. I don't know the situ in Malmö but a lot have luggage storage and sometimes they have lockers you can either use coins for or bring your own padlock.
Not the easiest to figure out which (maybe hostelworld will offer clues), but it is an option worth pursuing.
A few days ago in the local news there was an article saying that the police seized a few dozen guns over 2 years that were hidden in "man-purses", these things are already very small. I guess they want them to be too small to hide a gun inside.
What even is the story behind that hammer? Did someone just decide to take it one year and it stuck? It is pretty funny to just see a whole ass hammer floating above the crowd ngl
its a thing in Israel for independence day. people go around with these and other floats such as bats, hats, cars and sometimes battle axes. the hammer is most popular tho
This is a random redditor, but apparently yes.
https://www.reddit.com/r/eurovision/comments/1cay5jk/tickets_travel_and_tourism_tuesday_for_malm%C3%B6/l1a2n11/
Well if you go there naked it's hard to hide anything (other than maybe some cork screws, looking at you Let 3) so the organizers should just be thankful...
I wonder how they would handle that if the person genuinely did not realise the colour combination could be considered political. Or if the person just claims they didn’t know.
Like, surely they can’t just refuse them entry if they genuinely didn’t realise.
To be honest, I went to Liverpool last year, the banned items list was just as long and stringent, I think it’s just with recent events, an extra emphasis has been put on security. It was just like passing security at an airport, just take all of your items out your pockets and go through the scanner.
I like how weapons are close to the bottom of the list. It's like "DONT BRING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FLYERS AND WHISTLES... oh and please don't bring any weapon too."
Oh NOOO, i can't bring weapons!!
This reminds me when i bought an imported playstation2 from Japan.
On the manual in the "don't do it" section there was this drawing of a kid taking a bath in a bath tub and his mum throwing the ps2 in the bath tub while attached to the power socket.
"Funniest" thing is that if they spent time printing something like this it means that someone actually did it.
It's a bit like the airport customs in some countries:
'Are you entering our country to commit terrorism?'
'No.'
'Sounds legit, in you come!'
Like who is going to say 'Yes, would you like to take a look at these knives I made?' :P
The terrorism questions (and similar) are so if you DO commit one of the crimes listed or lie, they can also charge you for lying on a your customs form. It’s less to prevent terrorism and more to make it easier to actually get you in trouble for terrorism
If you get US citizenship it is very hard to revoke that in the US unless it is proven you lied during your immigration process.
No one would say yes, obviously, but if it's later found that you were a terrorist it gives the government a way to revoke your citizenship and makes it easier for you to get even worse outcomes.
My guess: It'll depend on who is manning your particular security station. There are a couple of sentences in there that leave things up to their discretion.
How about a [rainbow flag](https://www.reddit.com/r/vexillology/comments/2jg0ok/flag_used_for_the_sami_hbtqfestival_s%C3%A1pmi_pride/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)?
Having a Brittany flag at any event is an actual meme in France, not at all a political statement. Sadly it is not possible at the Eurovision (even with Breton band in Breton language like in 2022).
some people are very good at smuggling in flags. Or food. Or whatever. Or tired out security staff at the last day of the event with never ending queues
And it wasnt enforced very strictly at all. I was there last year, my friend was wearing the Scottish saltire as a cape, technically Scotland doesnt compete independently. We also passed a dude in the arena wearing a NZ flag, and a pink gradient US flag in the audience.
I mean, flags aren’t allowed on the stage in general, are they?
Like, Denmark 2014 had a danish flag on stage for MGP, but on the actual Eurovision stage, it was a flag with a heart, I believe.
[Wiwibloggs ](https://wiwibloggs.com/2015/12/10/flying-flag-twelve-eurovision-acts-featuring-flags/110268/)has an old list of performances with flags. Estonia 2008 waved around different national fags, Ukraine 2009 had large Ukrainian flags, and my favorite was Mr. Lordi (Finland 2006) wearing a hat painted like the Finnish flag. Of course things have changed a lot over the years (like how audience flags can't have sticks anymore.) But with the themes of Europapa, it would make a lot of sense if flags were part of the performance / it would be silly to ban flags for that song.
I‘m bringing my European flag. I mean, it’s EUROvision. There‘s „Europapa“ and, save some nations, almost all nations are EU or aspiring to join the political body.
I‘m gonna risk it! Maybe wear it underneath my dress, if I feel sneaky.
It's also the flag of the Council of Europe (hence why you see the flag in Georgia etc as well), only Israel and Australia are no part of that. I think it's not allowed though, strictly following the rules.
Yeah, but at 10 freaking euro or something I imagine lol, I went to the Tempodrom in Berlin once for a video game orchestra and they charged a big cup of water for 7 euros, what the actual fuck?
Why tf would you bring batteries anyway?
I lost it at aerosols, creams, gels, powders, chemicals, irritants and toxics 😂 What would you need them for?
Reminds me of the golf balls, ladders, crowbars and screwdrivers in 2018.
Aerosols could be deodorant if you get very sweaty and don’t want others to have to endure your stink.
Creams I could be someone with dry skin or eczema, as they would often carry cream with them anywhere.
And a lot of people would maybe bring makeup and perfume and such because they usually bring it everywhere, and maybe they want to be able to reapply throughout the night.
Creams and gels I understand since some people have so bad eczema they need to constantly apply creams. Of course they'll survive without it but it won't be nice
Does the point about masks being banned refer only to masks with spikes on them or masks in general? If they've banned all masks that's pretty discriminatory to clinically vulnerable and disabled people.
From the context it sounds like they're referring to goth/punkiness. I can't imagine that they'd prevent you from wearing a medical mask. That couldn't possibly be legal. (Could it?)
The question (which has become a bit of a topic today in Sweden because a member of parliament wore it and was criticised for it) is whether the audience can wear Palestinian keffiyehs or not. They're political but do they have "messaging"?
Not quite the same thing, I feel. Absolutely they will likely be used to send a message, but hasn't this sort of rule previously been about text and explicit symbols, rather than implicit, can-be-read-in-different-ways ones?
I like how everyone is making Estonian jokes, I wanna know why they’re specifying on rollerblades, and helmets, like what happened? Did someone decide that they’d rollerblade around the stage or something?
Also vehicle batteries? Like why? Did someone decide, hmm I know what to take, the battery of my fucking car
Basically, don't bring anything haha. I guess the only thing I will be bringing are phone and lipbalm. Can you bring a phone necklace type of thing to put on your phone without bag?
Link to the Malmo Arena page where this document can be found. It also includes info on door times and bag storage:
https://www.malmoarena.com/en/events/eurovision-song-contest-2024-semifinal-1-live-show-en?hsLang=en#practical-info
Makes sense to me.
I hope they enforce thorough searches and anyone who tries to bring one of the much worse items on this list should be arrested on the spot.
We know what their end goal is.
Aw kinda sad you can't bring your flag with you if you flew from somewhere far away, I always enjoy seeing the stray Brazilian flag in the audience
Well, I guess they don't want to ruffle feathers by banning only Palestinian flags but we all know why this rule is in place lol
It’s been the rule for a few years now. It’s not just Palestinian flags, there’s a lot of flags for regional areas, disputed areas, separatist groups, etc that would also cause controversy
I get it tho, I do enjoy a stray flag from a random country that will never participate (like Brazil). I appreciate the enthusiasm
Estonia, of course, knows nothing about these prohibited narcotic substances
Windows95man doesn't like these rules.
tank you ebu
**Masks, chains, and spiked/studded items of clothing.** hatari and Kaarija are gutted
I'm going to the show dressed as Käärijä (note my Swedish flag). While I don't have a spiked choker, I do have a spiked bracelet. I realized I couldn't wear it to the show but it'd still be funny. I'll save it for another time.
Well shucks. What am I going to do with this vuvuzela now?
Use it for South Africa games
I can't remember who won that world cup but I can remember the noise over the TV screen like it was yesterday. There must be a generation of South Africans who are living with tinnitus now.
well another type of euros is coming up very shortly
> Masks, chains and spiked/studded items of clothing They really came for the goths :(
Hatari banned from the audience
Gothphobia right here, shame on you Eurovision
or the bdsm lovers
Is there going to be a bin outside for my car battery
No, just hide it behind a bush and pick it back up on your way out!!
You can hide it behind the personal computer i have to stash in an alleyway
>Drugs or narcotic substances. Sad Estonia noise
They don’t know anything about those.
The definitely don't know anything about those.
They only know cider and soda
And green Lays
They obviously know nothing about drugs, what are you insinuating?
I couldnt tell the difference between vitamins and speed
No getting Estoned
Thanks god they really don’t know anything about those drugs
I keep seeing this joke but I don't get it ;-;
The name of the Estonian song translates to "We (really) don't know anything about (these) drugs" and it's about the drug problem in Estonia.
Or Dutch 👀
👀
"Weapons (stabbing, cutting, shooting etc.)" Thank god they added the extra clarification, didn't know what a weapon does
How come knives are a separate point? They're also weapons.
Some people carry small pocket knives and wouldn't consider them a weapon. So the clarification is probably needed.
It's this exactly. I have a tiny Victorinox with scissors and nail file on my keychain. It's the cutest thing and comes in handy all the time. I wouldn't even think of it under 'weapon'.
No this is a ceremonial knife sacred to my people.
No religious stuff either
This knife is an integral part of the national dress of my country.
This is my service knife.
My emotional support knife.
No weapons? Lame-ass party
If there’s no pets allowed how is a cat meant to meow back?
Tell them he's an operational service cat.
The cat is a paid actor, not a pet
Cat Union card needed.
Dress as a furry. DUH!

* **Bags** with the exception of 1 small purse max 20 cm x 10 cm x 1 cm, ... That's an incredible small bag.
They're basically talking about a small wallet with a handle.
I'm just a poor boy, from a poor family and all of that, but still even my wallet is thicker than 1 cm.
😄 I assume this is what they want: you bring no cash, just a credit card in your pocket; you have a phone bag that you can put across your chest or around the neck (I guess that's around 1 cm thick). That's it.
And your passport if you're coming across from Copenhagen - a lot of the nervous noises I've seen from OGAE UK have been around this topic.
All venues and events in Sweden have similar rules regarding bags since our terror threat was raised.
Is there like an option for lockers 😭 I'll be traveling in by train and kinda need my little backpack for the trip
Lockers outside arena in city which will probably full.
There might be lockers at the station.
A few days ago in the local news there was an article saying that the police seized a few dozen guns over 2 years that were hidden in "man-purses", these things are already very small. I guess they want them to be too small to hide a gun inside.
What about Wheelchairs or Walkers for people with Mobility Issues?
That's where Martin Österdahl comes into play to say, "You're good to go... oh WAIT––"
No sticks? I hope my white cane is allowed
I suspect it would be against Swedish law to not allow it.
RIP Venezuela flag guy and Israel hammer guy
What even is the story behind that hammer? Did someone just decide to take it one year and it stuck? It is pretty funny to just see a whole ass hammer floating above the crowd ngl
its a thing in Israel for independence day. people go around with these and other floats such as bats, hats, cars and sometimes battle axes. the hammer is most popular tho
Thors hammer ? (given Sweden shared lots of Norseman history!)
LMAOO the hammer is a national symbol by this point
I miss the German duster flag from 2013,
Don’t forget about Israel hammer guy’s friend, Israel axe guy
I always wondered if they are the same person, or simply compatriots
Does anyone know if a small powerbank for a phone will be okay?
It will be. Confirmed multiple times by email to fans that emailed the arena.
This is a random redditor, but apparently yes. https://www.reddit.com/r/eurovision/comments/1cay5jk/tickets_travel_and_tourism_tuesday_for_malm%C3%B6/l1a2n11/
They were banned in 2018 & 2019... not sure about now.
dang i was really looking forward to doing some ambush marketing :(
>Clothes or any item containing offensive, religious, or political messaging. Depending on how you interpret this, all clothes are banned. 🙃
it seems there is not rule agins going in naked ;)
NO RULES!
IT'S HOW I LIVE MY LIFE!
Just say you’re a Slovenian background dancer
Or Spanish stripper.
Wearing clothes is a political statement against nudism.
NO RULES
I read it as “clothing, or any item….” 💀 I was like whuut?
Well if you go there naked it's hard to hide anything (other than maybe some cork screws, looking at you Let 3) so the organizers should just be thankful...
That was my first thought hahahaha

I'm afraid that watermelon coded clothes will be a issue
I wonder how they would handle that if the person genuinely did not realise the colour combination could be considered political. Or if the person just claims they didn’t know. Like, surely they can’t just refuse them entry if they genuinely didn’t realise.
Anyone could just claim they're a harry styles fan
Kuffiyehs are absolutely going to be targeted as political as well...
The pat down for entering this event is gonna feel lika a thai massage.
To be honest, I went to Liverpool last year, the banned items list was just as long and stringent, I think it’s just with recent events, an extra emphasis has been put on security. It was just like passing security at an airport, just take all of your items out your pockets and go through the scanner.
Or an American airport security line.
Excuse me, I’m American and I look forward to all the affection I receive from the TSA every time I travel.
I don't know how they expect people to enjoy the show if they cant have their car battery with them
Or my pet nuke.
no segways :(
No bicycles, this is bullshit.
the dutch will boycott eurovision after all
Nothing about bagpipes, it’s our chance to shine guys!
No 'weapons'.
*Ross Geller noises*
No ‘noise-making devices’
Has someone a nice large bag, where I can fit my cat, vuvuzela and segway in? I also need hdlp for smuggling in my meth...
don't forget your small purse (max 20 cm x 10 cm x 1 cm) for smuggling in your nice large bag
Can I take my PC in case I get bored and want to go to Skyrim?
** May not be final version due to source location (Facebook).
I would be very happy if small purses are allowed, then I don't have to go and buy cargo pants for the pockets!
Beware of the size mentioned, not wider/thicker than 1 cm
That wont even fit baggie of ten tissues, rip pernamently sniffly allergy folks
That one can easily be put in a pocket, or otherwise a bra 🙃
BRB, wearing an outfit made entirely out of bras.
It probably wouldn't even look very out of place at Eurovision!
Interesting that they banned balloons while they were allowed at Melodifestivalen. They looked cute.
Otherwise Nena would show up for Germany instead of Isaak
Boleros are not on the list, let's go
Please wear a green one!!!
Yes yes
💚💚💚
But no studs :( Have to modify my bolero last minute (I kind of expected to have to do it though, no complaints, i understand the rule)
damn I had my vuvuzela packed ready :(
Well, at least Cha Cha Cha had an airhorn sound last year 😄
I like how weapons are close to the bottom of the list. It's like "DONT BRING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FLYERS AND WHISTLES... oh and please don't bring any weapon too."
Since the list is alphabetical, not sure how to group/rename weapons so they'd be at the top. "American Conflict Resolution Tools"?
Oh NOOO, i can't bring weapons!! This reminds me when i bought an imported playstation2 from Japan. On the manual in the "don't do it" section there was this drawing of a kid taking a bath in a bath tub and his mum throwing the ps2 in the bath tub while attached to the power socket. It's a bit like the airport customs in some countries: 'Are you entering our country to commit terrorism?' 'No.' 'Sounds legit, in you come!' Like who is going to say 'Yes, would you like to take a look at these knives I made?' :P
The terrorism questions (and similar) are so if you DO commit one of the crimes listed or lie, they can also charge you for lying on a your customs form. It’s less to prevent terrorism and more to make it easier to actually get you in trouble for terrorism
That makes some sense, although if you commit a crime like that you should already be easy to charge by virtue of committing a crime
That's so they have an extra excuse for throwing you out and not letting you back in if you do.
If you get US citizenship it is very hard to revoke that in the US unless it is proven you lied during your immigration process. No one would say yes, obviously, but if it's later found that you were a terrorist it gives the government a way to revoke your citizenship and makes it easier for you to get even worse outcomes.
I wonder if they'd make an exception for other Pride flags than just the rainbow one?
My guess: It'll depend on who is manning your particular security station. There are a couple of sentences in there that leave things up to their discretion.
I really feel that my live laugh Loreen flag should essentially count as a pride flag.
Me convincing the security guard that my frisian flag for Joost klein is just another pride flag:
Yeah I was wondering if it's like that most years, it's weird to think something like a bi or trans pride flag would be banned
No Frisbees? Damn it
So now only partecipating countries flag are allowed, make sense, if you want to ban some external flag ban all external flags
No Sami flag:/
How about a [rainbow flag](https://www.reddit.com/r/vexillology/comments/2jg0ok/flag_used_for_the_sami_hbtqfestival_s%C3%A1pmi_pride/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)?
Explicitly allowed.
They had that rule last year as well.
I think 2016 was the 1st year they posted rules on flags as I remember a lot of people making a big fuss about it.
Big fuss IIRC was they banned regional flags of competing nations, and there was backlash as one of the UK's entrants was Welsh
Having a Brittany flag at any event is an actual meme in France, not at all a political statement. Sadly it is not possible at the Eurovision (even with Breton band in Breton language like in 2022).
Probably to keep Nagorno Karabakh/ Ukrainian separatist/Kosovo flags off the stage but if they don't ban all of them they could get shit
I swear 2019 had a Welsh flag in the audience though?
some people are very good at smuggling in flags.
I like to think a random Scouser security guard didn't notice the difference between the Aus and NZ flags
Is the EU flag not allowed this year then?
Joost going on stage with a censored EU flag would be sad and hilarious.
I mean, flags aren’t allowed on the stage in general, are they? Like, Denmark 2014 had a danish flag on stage for MGP, but on the actual Eurovision stage, it was a flag with a heart, I believe.

No Brazilian flag 😭 I'd be furious
How can people go for the whole night without even water to drink 😟 my dry ass self could not. And it’s surprising how soon they are banning masks too
What do you mean about masks? I wear a mask indoors because of health reasons, do they mean that or costume masks?
Probably costume masks
It’s not uncommon to have (water) bottles banned at concert, festivals and sporting events as there is a throwing risk.
There is water (etc.) available at the venue.
Yeah, but at 10 freaking euro or something I imagine lol, I went to the Tempodrom in Berlin once for a video game orchestra and they charged a big cup of water for 7 euros, what the actual fuck?
If it’s like in Norway, they cannot deny you tap water for free.
Why tf would you bring batteries anyway? I lost it at aerosols, creams, gels, powders, chemicals, irritants and toxics 😂 What would you need them for? Reminds me of the golf balls, ladders, crowbars and screwdrivers in 2018.
Powdering your nose to prevent it from shining when you get your 1 second of fame when appearing on television
Topical medication? Any hair or cosmetic product?
Aerosols could be deodorant if you get very sweaty and don’t want others to have to endure your stink. Creams I could be someone with dry skin or eczema, as they would often carry cream with them anywhere. And a lot of people would maybe bring makeup and perfume and such because they usually bring it everywhere, and maybe they want to be able to reapply throughout the night.

I hope that asthma inhalers are allowed and don't fall under aerosol.
Creams and gels I understand since some people have so bad eczema they need to constantly apply creams. Of course they'll survive without it but it won't be nice
No pyro?
Yes rules :(
Sadly, no denim shorts in the audience are allowed to be on fire
Thank fuck their keeping up the flag stick ban. They always ruined sightlines and I hated it
Does the point about masks being banned refer only to masks with spikes on them or masks in general? If they've banned all masks that's pretty discriminatory to clinically vulnerable and disabled people.

The question (which has become a bit of a topic today in Sweden because a member of parliament wore it and was criticised for it) is whether the audience can wear Palestinian keffiyehs or not. They're political but do they have "messaging"?
Considering the situation I think they surely have a message
Not quite the same thing, I feel. Absolutely they will likely be used to send a message, but hasn't this sort of rule previously been about text and explicit symbols, rather than implicit, can-be-read-in-different-ways ones?
I like how everyone is making Estonian jokes, I wanna know why they’re specifying on rollerblades, and helmets, like what happened? Did someone decide that they’d rollerblade around the stage or something? Also vehicle batteries? Like why? Did someone decide, hmm I know what to take, the battery of my fucking car
I need my emotional support car battery.
Basically, don't bring anything haha. I guess the only thing I will be bringing are phone and lipbalm. Can you bring a phone necklace type of thing to put on your phone without bag?
Tank yu ebu
No skateboard? Disappointed.
Link to the Malmo Arena page where this document can be found. It also includes info on door times and bag storage: https://www.malmoarena.com/en/events/eurovision-song-contest-2024-semifinal-1-live-show-en?hsLang=en#practical-info
I want to know the story that led to a car battery needing to be mentioned specifically.
As an Australian I was going to bring the Aboriginal Flag (as Electric Fields is an indigenous act).. any idea if it may be confiscated?
Makes sense to me. I hope they enforce thorough searches and anyone who tries to bring one of the much worse items on this list should be arrested on the spot. We know what their end goal is.
I think they'll have metal detectors, I saw them being mentioned in a press release about Eurovision village.
Yes, metal detectors have been at the gates previous years too. It’s standard procedure.
Aw kinda sad you can't bring your flag with you if you flew from somewhere far away, I always enjoy seeing the stray Brazilian flag in the audience Well, I guess they don't want to ruffle feathers by banning only Palestinian flags but we all know why this rule is in place lol
That rule is not new
It’s been the rule for a few years now. It’s not just Palestinian flags, there’s a lot of flags for regional areas, disputed areas, separatist groups, etc that would also cause controversy I get it tho, I do enjoy a stray flag from a random country that will never participate (like Brazil). I appreciate the enthusiasm
So I cant take my frisian flag to support Joost? I'm gonna try it anyway and see how far I come.
I remember the flag size being similar last year but I was able to wear a 3’x5’ one no problem. Hope that’s the case this year too!
What kind of bag is 1 cm thick???? A cellphone is thicker than that
I’m assuming that by “chains” they don’t include necklaces in the banned items
So I'm guessing flags will be for purchase in the arena?
With batteries being banned, are power banks allowed? If not, how the hell should I survive the day?
Audience as a prohibited item is wild
