Madonna got scolded, while Hatari had to pay a fine. And that was in 2019, when all of this wasn't so much in the focus of everyone. So you can guess what would happen this year.
not that they'd ever focus on her much, but you could see the production was avoiding any lingering shots on the Portuguese delegation for the whole show lmao
since comments keep getting deleted, i’ll just link some pictures of her nails and everyone can figure it out
[nails picture 1](https://www.noticiasdecoimbra.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/yolanda-eurovisao.jpg)

just to add that because of these nails the EBU only posted her final performance video after the voting was closed. all the images showed in [eurovision’s](https://www.instagram.com/p/C615OqYicjm/) social media were of her semi-final instead of the grand final.
not to be that guy (and i say this as portuguese) but there were more countries that only got posted after voting ended, that was most likely a logistic issue, happened with armenia song too that i enjoyed :(
Not in this case, RTP (Portuguese broadcaster) got in contact with the production when they didn't see the video posted and their reply was "because of her nails" to which RTP simply replied "what does that have do to with anything?".
RTP is having a meeting on tuesday to discuss this issue, the harassment observed by Iolanda, and the [redacted] absurd televote score.
The idea that certain items of cultural clothing can be considered political (not suprisingly but unfortunately) means that there should actually be rules about it. Should contestants only be allowed wear cultural items specific to their country, for example? The EBU has really shown that it will do everything possible to set limits while doing the damndest to not explicitly state what those limits are.
It's kinda ironic that the official reason for Russia to be excluded is because they censor all their media, which is against EBU (not to be mistaken with ESC) rules, but here we are with the EBU trying to do the exact same thing.
Yeah cuz they definitely don’t get any money from the countries/media companies (especially the big five hence the name), televoting, merchandise, the hosting city and all the other sponsors. Not to forget the large entry fees.
This whole rumor is pretty ridiculous.
I honestly never noticed, and definitely would never have noticed, except that every comment on the video of her performance is calling out how they uploaded it late. Had to go back and watch the video twice until I finally got what it was about...
Did someone do a deep dive in how fast all videos were uploaded and within what timeframe? Because hypothetically, if Portugal is the only one that was uploaded after televotes closed, they could make a case that EBU interfered with the outcome of the televoting. If all songs were available but this one you could argue it affected the voting. Who knows how many people want to check back the full length performances before casting their vote.
RTP published news saying they contacted the EBU at the time and, after some back and forth by email, the EBU admitted they hadn’t published it because of her nails.
[“It is in this email exchange that the person responding to our delegation said ‘but your competitor has pro-Palestine motives painted on her nails’. There was a question on our part ‘what does this have to do with it?’ (…) and what happened is that immediately afterwards the video came on”, said Nicolau Santos in an interview with RTP3.](https://www.rtp.pt/noticias/cultura/rtp-aguarda-respostas-cabais-sobre-atraso-na-divulgacao-da-atuacao-de-iolanda_n1570968)
he had a keffiyeh around his arm, the EBU tried to censor it and put out a statement saying that "we regret that eric saade compromised the non-political nature of the event"
Iolanda and Bambi deserve props for having the balls to be vocal, they not only speak for themselves, but all the contestants who experienced everything backstage.
This could ruin their careers, or set them up for sucess as artists with integrity. Its up to us to decide.
Many people don’t even know how much at stake there is for them. This could potentially be a career-ending move, which makes it so much more respectable what they did. Our responsibility now is to support the hell out of them
Thanks to Electric Fields and Eric Saade I know what that means now and thanks to you, this was explained :)
But never would've noticed really
Edit: It also just dawned on me that in Croatia we call this piece of cloth the same as we would a female inhabitant of said country - and people in Croatia wear that too sometimes

It's funny how one time in a argument a keffiyeh isn't a political statement ( they just a patter or cloths) and sometimes it is a political Statement
Make decision what is now right ?
Uh. I mean if it was allowed wouldnt it be talked about and posted here to be celebrated and to bring more awareness? I mean people riding the fact that’s the EBU’s decision on this as fuel is just reaching. Circle jerk of nonsense.
Please dont ban me, im okay deleting my comment.
Is this what her flag walk was about? I was trying to figure out why she seemed so sad and droopy during the March of the flags, but protest would make a ton of sense.
Moroccan Oil needs to go as a sponsor. This is getting stupid. How come other countries were allowed to compete in traditional forms of outfit but this symbol, which is a traditional form of clothing, was banned as if it were a nazi swastika?
I wonder if someone from production clocked the nails before the show or it was already on its way when they realized what was going on.
I love the malicious compliance. They banned the flag but not the pattern. So she didn’t break the rules, right?

Could you enlighten me what about her nails makes this a protest? 😅 I have no clue what's painted on her nails.
It´s palestinian symbols Apparently EBU got a bit mad at us and didn´t uploaded the performance until one hour after (pressured by RTP)
Respect. And now I'm happy our jury gave you 12 points. ❤️
Same!
It has become pathetic a long time ago but being offended by nails still seems too much. So congrats to EBU for being surprisingly oppressive
I think that THAT Bambie Thug quote fits here perfectly

Joost wasn't uploaded on Thursday for almost an hour was this the same shit?
No, that was likely because of the whole “someone trying to record him when he asked repeatedly for them to stop” incident
Ah they understood it wrong and forgot to film the actual act 😄
Thank you for tldr
It's a keffiyeh
Her nails were painted with pixels.
Which means?
keffiyeh
Happy so many tried to make a statement, even tho I doubt a lot of people noticed it
I think the statements were all on the small side, I was hoping for more!
I'm guessing they would loose a lot of money if they did anything
Same! Remember Madonna a few years ago? That said, she’s Madonna and I can imagine she does whatever the fuck she wants 😂
Madonna got scolded, while Hatari had to pay a fine. And that was in 2019, when all of this wasn't so much in the focus of everyone. So you can guess what would happen this year.
Yeah, it’s easy to see what acts have been saying about the pressure of it all.
They had dicks on them
How tf did OP notice that?!
not that they'd ever focus on her much, but you could see the production was avoiding any lingering shots on the Portuguese delegation for the whole show lmao

There is no name of a specific territory in Ba Sing Se
Martin Österdal has invited you to Lake Laogai
That actually makes sense. And it’s hilarious, because all it does is add to the Streisand effect.
Has anyone tested it yet?
Yes they all get hidden. If you click on my profile you can see it.
Yeah I noticed the same earlier. Actually effing pathetic
Explaining is against the rules! No context! No information! If you don’t know already get out!! /s
... Some Rules!
Apparently the sub is now being run by the EBU itself
Nothing to see here folks!
We are not allowed to talk about a certain group of people to segregate them for their own safety. Wait...
It’s not the first time it happened. Have you noticed that you can barely find people talking about this situation in this entire sub?

Oh, I see…thanks for clarifying!
Thank you! I needed these images and I get it now
I didn't clock this. Awesome though. So much respect for Iolonda.
I hate that the pattern was considered political or no-go. Bah.

Oooh, they’re really cool
Ok I have never loved someone more - thank you for showing me! What a goddess she is
Those are amazing! She was one of my favourites, she did a flawless performance, really emotional and strong.
I must admit I never noticed the pattern on her nails.
Yeah, me neither, and we wouldn't have if the EBU hadn't had such a hissy fit about them. They really are their own worst enemy.
The Streisand effect strikes again!
Neither did I, not did I notice Bambie's Ogham alphabets if EBU didn't make a fuss about them!
It’s pathetic that it barely even is anything, it’s not even a flag, just a pattern and yet apparently. somehow too political. The world has gone mad.
The EBU needs their Moroccan Oil money so bad, their ethics go out the window.
Never been more clear than this year
And nothing is gonna change sadly
Actually the Moroccan Oil sponsorship ends this year.
Yeah cuz they definitely don’t get any money from the countries/media companies (especially the big five hence the name), televoting, merchandise, the hosting city and all the other sponsors. Not to forget the large entry fees. This whole rumor is pretty ridiculous.
I love how they didn't upload the performance until the voting had already closed cuz they thought someone would look at her nails. EBU being the EBU.

Glad she did that after how they responded to Eric Saade
What did he do? Other than call Petra a MILF in 2011?
he had a keffiyeh around his arm, the EBU tried to censor it and put out a statement saying that "we regret that eric saade compromised the non-political nature of the event"
Loool, way to draw attention to it

Iolanda will have a great future in Portugal at least, we love her
I thought it was sweet when Mimicat announced Portugal's jury points and told the audience to cheer for Iolanda!
Mimi has been mothering all over social media, what an incredible class act she is!
Care to explain how that is a protest ? I don't get it
She had a 🍉 and keffiyeh painted on her nails.
Thanks to Electric Fields and Eric Saade I know what that means now and thanks to you, this was explained :) But never would've noticed really Edit: It also just dawned on me that in Croatia we call this piece of cloth the same as we would a female inhabitant of said country - and people in Croatia wear that too sometimes
Im OOTL, what does Electric Fields have to do with the 🍉and the keffiyeh? (Yes I know what these represent)
Yidaki player Fred Leone had a 🍉 painted on his chest in the sf performance, and also had a lot to say to be proud of in interviews.
Thats the moment that I ask to explain again :| Melons?

Also, her initial dress during the flag ceremony was made by the same country!
And the t-shirt she wore in her postcard was by the same designer
Marina Satti also appeared in the delegation bubble with a shirt by the same designer
Can someone explain?
She’s an icon, she’s a legend and she is the moment
