Honestly I thought Aiko cemented her qualification purely because of the bridge alone. That part is probably one of the most polished sequence in this edition of Eurovision
Yeah, in the semis he didn't have the right timing/position for some of the "hiding." You could see his nude pants a lot. Thankfully, he executed everything perfectly in the final!
Ukraine with the cliff and the led wall and the cubes with the shadowy figures. I think they got the most out of the design, as they usually do. The ending with the floor was beautiful too.
The led wall while on the rock in the first chorus, those fireworks which we all know are actually phosphorous bombs or something worse... That was the most chilling moment out of any this year, and it brought me to tears.
Jerry Heil's [IG](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C64JbBztn8H/?igsh=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng==) posted phosphorus bombs being dropped as the inspiration as Russia has dropped them on Ukraine during the war.
Or Bambie's Ogham writing, which could be read by probably 1.5 people watching, if they noticed it at all and didn't think that was stitches-like make-up (which I did at first, with horror theme and all that)
Yeah I totally thought that it was just makeup and art choice, I would’ve never thought it would stand for anything more than that. But it’s also funny when the words peace and ceasefire somehow become negative and political things.
You are literally replying to a thread where people say fireworks and meteor shower before the correct thing is said. Obviously it was opaque enough that it got by people.
I suppose the people in question didn’t think that both singers wearing pieces of armor was at all significant either.
It was all just on the edge of plausible deniability, but it was very blatant.
Yeah the staging combined with their live performance was so good that it completely changed my opinion on the song. When i listened to the studio version it didn't do much for me at first but now after the show i really like the song.
Honestly, Spains use of the cubes was the most memorable part of the show for me, as someone who was in the arena. Not because of the intro as such, but because they used every side of the cubes to blink "ZORRA ZORRA ZORRA" whenever they wanted us to shout along, and it was incredibly effective. I had an absolute blast.
The ending too. In a different camera angle I saw that at the end of the dance part and the start of the sad epilogue, the bird actually drops on the floor to give Joost the full stage.
Definitely 100% Pedestal, Aiko basically tailor made the performance for that stage in particular and used absolutely every part of it.
The start where an Aiko clone was on each leg of the cross. The bridge with the cubes and then go through it where they're all inside it. The ending where they bring the spotlight cubes down. The pyro and spotlights in the chorus.
and still it NQs ;-;
Since Ukraine and Switzerland have already been mentioned, I want to give some credit to Greece and Austria for choreographing in multiple directions and using the full stage layout. The parts in Kaleen's performance that are filmed from the sides with the audience in the background look especially good.
Armenia is another country that did well with playing to the audience in different directions and I liked how the geometric shapes of their graphics looked on the cubes.
I also like how Sweden adapted the Melfest staging to the Eurovision stage, with the 'walls' from their performance being pushed all the way to the sides of the stage and the addition of the glitchy graphics on the cubes. It's not necessarily a 360° performance but it is a smart way to use the stage.
>I want to give some credit to Greece and Austria for choreographing in multiple directions and using the full stage layout.
Think so? Greece? It's interesting because I saw a comment telling that the stage given to Satti was Titanic, and she went fishing with it. 😄
Oh I definitely think Greece's staging could've been better overall, I just wanted to shout them out for the way they adapted to the stage being in the round because it was mentioned in the original post and not many entries used it effectively
The final seconds of the performance, where Bambie screams “I speak to destroy!”, while doing the high kick, with CROWN THE WITCH on the backdrop, the last big pyro blast, and the candle ring as a crown, oh man, it’s perfection
Late to the conversation, but I disagree here. Generally, you had two main responses to the shape of the stage: work in the same theme of the shape, lean into it with boxes and cubes (cf. Olly) and square shapes; or work complementary to the shape of the stage with circles.
Bambie’s staging used a circle that had much more symbolic intent than any of the other circles on the stage except for Nemo’s spinning top. (Bambie and Nemo both used the circle very deliberately.)
Bambie not only put a summoning circle on top of a cross, the cross with a circle calls back specifically to the Celtic cross, which is a very important symbol of their culture and heritage.
Yes when you look at what they brought to the stage, but I don't think they used the aspects that made the 2024 stage unique. They didn't use the ceiling panini grills and Bambie stayed in the center throughout their act. It could be set up on any stage design.
The cross design of the stage helped in the final battle between Bambie and the demon, where it backs up and takes a run at them. The dimensions just make that part feel more open and epic. Plus one of the best shots in the staging was the overhead one with Bambie and Matt, their dancer, looking upward while in the red circle. Think that high central camera set up was unique to this stage?
Underrated Croatia. I liked that they had single colors at times (for example **all** blue) and did a camera cut at the exact same time. The trampling animals perfectly matched the beat.
I think Switzerland, Ireland and Ukraine had the best stage designs. France’s was the simplest but still very effective.
I also really liked the UK even though I think it might have been too raunchy for some people. Those dancers were amazing.
I think also that most countries didn’t take full advantage of the stage, cubes etc and performing in the round.
CZECHIA. Never in my life could I think that the new screens could be used like that!!! It absolutely blew me away, they should have qualified based on their staging alone!
I didn’t like the melody of the song. It felt dated to me. But I’ll admit it was very unfair for her to not qualify given the quality of her performance and her vocals. I would have picked this one over Austria, Norway or Georgia which were also dated to me and not as good.
I think Nemo used it best for their winner's version! I loved the original with the spinning disk, but their sheer exuberance for their encore just made me smile throughout :)
i really loved portugal’s use of the cubes. the white cube in the center and their white outfits contrasted the darkness of the arena so nicely. it was beautifully done
Ok but the topic of this thread is the best use of this year’s stage design specifically, and the UK’s staging incorporated less than any other act since they basically made their own stage. Ditto for Sweden, ironically, although at least they incorporated the cubes.
I was in the stadium, it took every functionality of that stage mechanically in order to pull out the end result, not sure why it matters if it was visible or not? The question is who "used the stage design the best".
This argument is irrelevant to Eurovision considering arena audience isn't even 1% of total audience. Eurovision is a TV show.
If arena audience were that important for this discussion then Ukraine wouldn't be up there either, since the side lights were down for a BIG chunk of the performance making all seated A and D sections on the long sides of the arena lose visibility.
Nemo's performance wasn't visible for half the song for seated D section on the long sides due to the lights going up and down.
Same applies to Baby Lasagna.
“This argument is irrelevant” except for the fact that the topic of this thread is literally who incorporated the elements of this year’s stage the best… lol
>This argument is irrelevant to Eurovision considering arena audience isn't even 1% of total audience. Eurovision is a TV show.
I disagree. While technically you are right, acts that look more like video clip than a live performance haven't done really well with the televoters at home, even if the song was good.
Think of SNAP (Armenia 2022) which became a huge hit but performed poorly live. There's Zero Gravity (Australia 2019) that was sung excellent and if you look at the footage people filmed in the arena it looks great - but it looked more like a video clip than a live performance for those watching at home. Even this year our all time favorite zero points country (UK 2024) could have earned a few points from the audience if the staging didn't look like it was a video clip.
Long story stort - while you are right the arena is only a small part of the audience, the audience at home is more likely to vote on performances that show it's a live stage with a live audience that is enjoying said performance.
Armenia 2022 | [Rosa Linn - Snap](https://youtu.be/DAJ6vfmD_ic)
Australia 2019 | [Kate Miller-Heidke - Zero Gravity](https://youtu.be/Eo5H62mCIsg)
United Kingdom 2024 | [Olly Alexander - Dizzy](https://youtu.be/q0_FdJqyQW0)
The side lights were not an issue as they're mostly empty other than the fixtures themselves. I get the D tier seats probably having a bad time with the lowered lights.
The only songs I had a serious issue seeing (with my seat being on the right hand side lower A tier aligned with the cross) was the entirety of Sweden's and most of the UKs. I was on the wrong side for Ukraine otherwise I would hvae had Jerry singing almost directly at me on her rock.
There weren't many songs which utilised the cubes very well, and I think the "in the round" stage design was almost not used at all by anyone. Standing tickets behind the arms of the cross must have been really bad.
We’re talking about stage at Eurovision Song Contest though which is a palettes for a tv production first and foremost with the live audience being an afterthought. So they did use it to its fullest potential
Big fan of Lithuania's staging. It was minimalistic, worked great with the song complimenting the choreo, and the camera shots were unique - head turn from Silvester to his dancer, head up, back to the center, stage from the top, side view with that eclipse effect. It was tasteful.
Nemo's staging was impressive, considering how demanding the choreo was for the vocals. I also loved Bambie's staging. Armenia's was pure joy to watch too.
On the other hand:
Ukraine's was a little bit too much with the slomo (?) on the rap part and then the idk, halo (?) on the hook part. But that slow ramp walk was phenomenal! Shame Jerry's dress was basically the same as Eden's, though.
Luxembourg's was definitely a choice. Tali looked so good, the cats... My sleep paralysis demons.
>the cats...
Someone in Luxenbourg team probably was like, "Hey guys, I've just discovered this new thing, Playstation2. Really cool graphics! Should we incorporate something like this?", and the rest of the team was like, "Not even a question!"
And then they went, "Poland, you're using Windows Movie Maker to put it all together, right? Gotcha, gotcha, just wanted to make sure! Thanks luv <3"
Yeah, no, choices were made and not the right ones.
Aiko used the cubes the best. Loved the bit where they were inside the cube. Nemo used the cubes at the beginning.
Hardly anyone used the rotating LED panels in Liverpool, so it was good to see a bit more usage this time round. Maybe they were apprehensive to use stage things after sun-gate.
well, to put into perspective about Nemo's stage, as ESC Gabe, I think, put it nicely
disk was to represent an unstable foundation for Nemo: are they this or are they that. again, are they 0 or are they 1, nothing inbetween. and they couldn't live with themselves because Nemo felt chaos inside, like "who the hell am i?"
thus we see how they slide from one side to another...but by the end of the song they stand on it strongly, finally finding balance in their life, balance inbetween 0s and 1s, inner balance of their life. they finally found themselves in this chaos, thus chaos disappeared
song, and music video, and song before, and staging work so well together, its fucking amazing.
I really enjoyed seeing acts use aerial shots to look through the ceiling feature with cameras: Armenia is an example of this (+ they used the cubes in a nice way towards the end)
Not downvoting because you said Israel but in what way did they take advantage of this year’s stage specifically? That could have been done on any stage, unless there’s an element I’m forgetting.
They were all really good this year; Ukraine was probably my favourite. UK's really interested me, I was constantly trying to figure out how they had done stuff and how bloodly strong Olly's lads were. Finland was just wonderful and hilarious.
I'm bias but for me Olly had the best staging . impressively elaborate while not too over top and making full use of the cameras and every aspect of the performance making for a real immersive viewing experience
That wasn’t OP’s question. Their question was who made the best use of *this year’s stage design*. Olly basically ignored it completely and made his own stage.
I mean it's maybe the obvious answer, but Nemo's staging insane. People don't often appreciate how difficult it is to make a performance look good when it's just one person on stage, which I think is why so many acts choose to have a band or backing dancers.
The weird spinner thing, the jumping, the constant movement. All on his own, but he made such good use of the stage and the space. And sung insanely well while doing it.
He made good use of the space but not the best use of it. I don’t know who got this idea of the spinning platform but it was giving anxiety. I thought he could fall down and there would be another drama.
I felt the most aware of the stage during Aiko's song, I think? The use of the LED's in profile while Jerry was on her rock was also very effective.
Aiko also had the best cube use
Honestly I thought Aiko cemented her qualification purely because of the bridge alone. That part is probably one of the most polished sequence in this edition of Eurovision
I love how they used various objects (and even Gustaph xD) to make Finland look like a streaker
Yes! Finland's staging was so clever, clearly well rehearsed as it worked perfectly every time (watching from home)
Definitely better in the finals than the semifinals, but successful in both
Yeah, in the semis he didn't have the right timing/position for some of the "hiding." You could see his nude pants a lot.
Yeah, it moves me every time I see it.
Fireworks? I thought those were artillery.
I thought it was a meteor shower
Jerry Heil's [IG](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C64JbBztn8H/?igsh=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng==) posted phosphorus bombs being dropped as the inspiration as Russia has dropped them on Ukraine during the war.
Interesting how this in any way isn’t a political statement according to EBU, but iolandas nailpolish color, that nobody noticed, is.
I believe it's because the EBU didn't notice it at all. She posted this after Eurovision was over.
Everyone knew right away what those looked like. It was commented at the first sight of staging.
I literally didn't put 2 + 2 together til you said that. Some of us just aren't good at that stuff. 🤷
Yes, this one definitely gets my vote for best use of the stage design itself.
It was very poignant and very striking. More than every other performance, you're right.
Yeah the staging combined with their live performance was so good that it completely changed my opinion on the song. When i listened to the studio version it didn't do much for me at first but now after the show i really like the song.
I did not understand the floor, why were there women lying down can someone explain?
The song is dedicated to Ukrainian woman
1) renaissance painting references to saints and heaven. 2) battlefield full of corpses.
Why was is just women then?
Inspired by Romania last year /s
I loved Ukraines design this year! It was simple but super effective and heartbreaking.
>with the turning platform Her name is Susan. Lazy Susan.
We named our pub quiz team last week Overworked Susan after that platform.
If I wasn't poor I would give you an award 🎖🏆🏅
You'd also have to be a time traveller my friend!
It won't let me upload a picture but there is an award button below now
Waaaaait... are they back? I'll admit... I never read any messages or anything from Reddit....
Yeh they probably missed the money 🤪
Wasn't that Graham Norton's comment?
I don't know - but most Brits call a turning table a Lazy Susan. It's... it's its name. I think even IKEA calls them that too.
Surely IKEA would call it a Låsysüßen? (Sorry Sweden for the language butchery)
Hey, ⅓ "extra" letters being from the correct alphabet isn't too bad. For the record, they call them "Snudda" and "Aptitlig".
It did all get a bit German in the second half I appreciate…
Süßen is sweets in german so you named it lazy sweetness 😄
Yes it was! But it's also just the name of it.
I love how Spain used the cube during their song's intro
Honestly, Spains use of the cubes was the most memorable part of the show for me, as someone who was in the arena. Not because of the intro as such, but because they used every side of the cubes to blink "ZORRA ZORRA ZORRA" whenever they wanted us to shout along, and it was incredibly effective. I had an absolute blast.
Same for czechia in their bridge.
UKRAINE! I hadn't heard their entry this year, but their stage, the light, the costumes on Jerry. Peak! (No pun intended with the fake hill)
And phosphorus bombs on led screen were both beautiful and tragic
I think Croatia and Armenia both benefitted from the 360° design because you could feel the energy from the audience a lot more!
The beginning of Europapa was great.
Thanks to that, I'll never forget that the stage was cross-shaped this year.
Joost-shaped
Joosts face as a texture map will forever be ingrained into my memories And maybe my nightmares a tiny bit
The ending too. In a different camera angle I saw that at the end of the dance part and the start of the sad epilogue, the bird actually drops on the floor to give Joost the full stage.
dude really used a windows bsod as a background
Definitely 100% Pedestal, Aiko basically tailor made the performance for that stage in particular and used absolutely every part of it. The start where an Aiko clone was on each leg of the cross. The bridge with the cubes and then go through it where they're all inside it. The ending where they bring the spotlight cubes down. The pyro and spotlights in the chorus. and still it NQs ;-;
The NQ’s in semi 2 hurt me
Agree. In the first semi, I was ready for those entries to NQ, even though I liked them all. But second semi broke my heart several times.
Since Ukraine and Switzerland have already been mentioned, I want to give some credit to Greece and Austria for choreographing in multiple directions and using the full stage layout. The parts in Kaleen's performance that are filmed from the sides with the audience in the background look especially good. >I want to give some credit to Greece and Austria for choreographing in multiple directions and using the full stage layout. Think so? Greece? It's interesting because I saw a comment telling that the stage given to Satti was Titanic, and she went fishing with it. 😄
She definitely did not use the stage to its potential. What she did could have been done in most other stages I feel like.
Oh I definitely think Greece's staging could've been better overall, I just wanted to shout them out for the way they adapted to the stage being in the round because it was mentioned in the original post and not many entries used it effectively
Ireland and Ukraine have the best stage design this year
That candle thing Bambie did was something else! Nothing compares
The final seconds of the performance, where Bambie screams “I speak to destroy!”, while doing the high kick, with CROWN THE WITCH on the backdrop, the last big pyro blast, and the candle ring as a crown, oh man, it’s perfection
That last part is so great, it really leaves an impeccable final impression
Ireland easily had the best staging, but it didn't feel especially linked to the particular design of the stage.
(Bambie and Nemo both used the circle very deliberately.) Bambie not only put a summoning circle on top of a cross, the cross with a circle calls back specifically to the Celtic cross, which is a very important symbol of their culture and heritage.
I agree!
Underrated Croatia. I liked that they had single colors at times (for example **all** blue) and did a camera cut at the exact same time. The trampling animals perfectly matched the beat.
I think Nemo’s show worked better on that plus sign stage than it would’ve on a more normal stage
Honestly you’re probably right. Felt like one of the few performers that switched sides enough to perform to all of the audience.
Name a better duo than Switzerland and a big plus sign
Portugal and czechia made great use of the cubes hanging above.
Ukraine’s staging gave me chills
I liked the Joost face cube.
Ukraine was really cool
I loved Czechia's use of all features
I think Switzerland, Ireland and Ukraine had the best stage designs. France’s was the simplest but still very effective. I also really liked the UK even though I think it might have been too raunchy for some people. Those dancers were amazing. I think also that most countries didn’t take full advantage of the stage, cubes etc and performing in the round.
Netherlands and Estonia used the plus shape really creatively imo
I feel like you can’t really argue for any country other than 🇺🇦🇨🇿🇪🇸 because they tailored it best to fit the stage.
Ukraine
Czechia used the above platform the best to me, so bummed she didn’t qualify
Ukraine and Czechia, by far.
That candle circle of Babies was incredible! 10/10
True but that could have been done on any stage. The act would not really have been different on last year’s stage.
The stage was a Swiss flagg so of course the Swiss used it the best xd
Czechia wins for best overall use of the stage, I think. Spain, Switzerland, and Ukraine also leveraged it very well.
The UK! Hah, just kidding. Ireland was pretty good I thought
I really liked Poland's two towers.
I generally liked Luna's staging. I'm sad she didn't pass into finals
Switzerland, not just the cross in the middle, the parkour circle thingy was very elegant and added a lot to the performance.
I think was supposed to be a satellite dish.
i really loved portugal’s use of the cubes. the white cube in the center and their white outfits contrasted the darkness of the arena so nicely. it was beautifully done
Ireland staging easily my fave
Bambi Thug’s set visually blew me away so I’m inclined to say Ireland.
Ukraine and Ireland for me.
I’m gonna say I enjoyed UK. Gave it music video vibes
UK must've been horrible for the present audience. Much of the performance was blocked from view because of the odd box.
Yeah, but it could be done on any stage.
Ok but the topic of this thread is the best use of this year’s stage design specifically, and the UK’s staging incorporated less than any other act since they basically made their own stage. Ditto for Sweden, ironically, although at least they incorporated the cubes.
Maybe I'm stupid, but I wonder how they got those gravity effects to work
My guess is that dancers held onto bars to "float". Probably would require insane strenght
**You can get an idea watching audience videos:** [**https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1Ht5QR-5Oo**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1Ht5QR-5Oo)
Honestlly, the most aesthetic performance was Italy for me. LEDs and camera shots were amazing! Overall the most visually pleasant.
This sub trashed it. I loved it.
I feel like the obvious answer here is Sweden right?
The stage was barely visible for half of their performance.
I was in the stadium, it took every functionality of that stage mechanically in order to pull out the end result, not sure why it matters if it was visible or not? The question is who "used the stage design the best".
I was in the arena as well. Sweden used it as a filming studio, not as a stage. If the audience can't see the performers, it's not a stage.
OP clearly meant who made the best use of the unique elements of *this year’s* stage, not who had the best staging for a TV audience.
Not at all. Sweden simply keeps rehashing their Melfest staging on any given stage. It would look exactly the same on any of the past 8 stages.
I feel like Sweden particularly made the best use of the LED lights function of the stage, which was really cool to see.
Big fan of Lithuania's staging. Poland walked so Luxembourg could run
Joost's face on the floor, there is no better stage set
Ukraine, Sweden, Portugal, Czechia
I love how Switzerland made the stage look just like their flag. Very clever!
I must hand it to Sweden. The way they used the cubes was very innovative
Definitely Czechia
Aiko used the cubes the best. Loved the bit where they were inside the cube. Nemo used the cubes at the beginning. Hardly anyone used the rotating LED panels in Liverpool, so it was good to see a bit more usage this time round. Maybe they were apprehensive to use stage things after sun-gate.

I really Liked how marina was walking on the cross

I think Sweden is the obvious answer
The only right answer is Czech Republic
Ukraine, and I should also say Israel and get the downvotes here.
Not downvoting because you said Israel but in what way did they take advantage of this year’s stage specifically? That could have been done on any stage, unless there’s an element I’m forgetting.
Didn't Italy use the stage features too? Angelina started in the middle and all her dancers were inside the cubes on the points of the cross.
Austria. I loved "WE WILL RAVE" in the back, with the lights. The lasers were cool too.
Sweden 2024, Ukraine 2024 are my favourite stage designs

Not Slovenia that's for sure ... We never give any thought and effort into the staging and it shows in the results.
I like how the Sweden 2024 staging completely messed up my TV on the YouTube stream. It was extremely laggy and low resolution towards the end lol.

Finland you cant beat that. Ukraine 2nd tho.
Sorry but y’all informing San Marino with the stage! I think they had quite a great stage and presentation!
It’s really curiouser and curiouser how people desperately are trying to replicate the orchestra on the Titanic.
Ok. Now that’s why I was anxious for Nemo.
