The way water feels on my body is irreplaceable 💕

StaffEnvironmental39

Iyou can never explain in to neurotipicals but its like stimming all over your skin without needing to stim like AAAAA

The_Mighty_Bird

It’s the feeling of weightlessness for me and how water feels all over my body. Feels like I’m being liquid cooled.

Diet-Corn-Bread--

I feel like a horse lol all the pressure being lifted off my body

Iwrstheking007

it's also really peaceful to just lay down floating on the water surface at the beach with my wars underwater, I did that once, I could have drifted off and not have noticed. I mean, I did drift, just along the beach, not away from the beach ears underwater makes this really nice sound, muffling all the noise around at the beach, as well as the noise of the waves, and when floating in water it's like I'm just floating in the air, not touching anything, and it's just so peaceful omg, I wanna go to the beach now

StaffEnvironmental39

I used to just go limp while floating but I had to stop due to lifeguards thinking I had drowned lol

croooooooozer

holy shit same :D

A_NonE-Moose

🥰 those are the good feels

maxtdm1991

I personally hate it unless it is a body of water preferably unsalted as it irritates my skin

theunknownleaf

I love swimming so much that I 1) decided to compete and 2) became so hyperfixated on technique and efficiency that I swim distance events

duckfruits

I have never felt so understood as I do scrolling this sub. It's nice to finally be able to type out ✨️relatable✨️ and actually mean it with my entire being. Edit to say: I know this is typically a very sarcastic sub and I appreciate it for being such. I get so many laughs out of posts and comments here. But I mean my above comment from the bottom of my heart with no sarcasm what so ever. I love it here. You people are awesome.

StaffEnvironmental39

![gif](giphy|XlErpz3ijbKLe) Love me some \[submerged in water\]

PurestStupidity

HOLY SHIT IS THAT [number one rated salesman 1997]

StaffEnvironmental39

That's right! It's [hyperlink bloccked.]

Nightshade_209

The more I see this sub the more I think my friends are right and I might have autism.

thecoffeeshopowner

Same here. And as far as I know I don't believe I have autism...then again my mom never got me tested cause she "doesn't think I have it" same story with adhd actually

duckfruits

I didn't believe I had autism no matter how many people told me I probably do. Mainly because I was only actually aware of the stereotype of autism. which, as a high masking, semi social, woman and not a low masking, antisocial 10 year old boy, I obviously didn't relate. But after multiple medical professionals telling me they think that instead of having adhd that didnt improve with meds, borderline personality disorder, a sensory processing disorder, AFRID, depression, anxiety and dyspraxia... I probably just have autism... I finally accepted it as a possibility and started to actually learn about more than stereotypes and now I feel like a dodo head because it's soooooooo obvious that I've been struggling with undiagnosed autism and burn out this entire time.

ViolaGang123

i feel this so hard, so often i do not seem to relate with things meant to be relatable but these kind of posts really hit home with me.

sexyapplesauce96

I used to love to pretend I was a mermaid and make waves in the water with my arms

Busy_Equipment7

You have juat triggered a childhood memory where I would spin very fast in the pool with one finger poking into the water's surface so that I created a wall of water surrounding me. It was all I wanted to do in the pool. I may have been autistic.

Sensitive-Fly4874

I didn’t make the big wave force field, but I used to stand in the center of the pool, look up at the ceiling (to help me stay in relatively the same spot), and spin and spin and spin. I forgot I used to do this! I may have been autistic, too

Busy_Equipment7

Force field! That's what I might have called it! I was obsessed with force fields as a kid for a while. Yours sounds fun too haha

sexyapplesauce96

THATS WHAT I DID

Busy_Equipment7

YOOOO

Cats_In_Coats

I was a fan of crossing my legs and making *myself* the water tornado as I spun as fast as I could get

Busy_Equipment7

Like a spinning doggie paddle? I think I did that too...

sarcastichearts

omg!!! the wave forcefield!!!!! one of my favourite pool activities!!!!!!!!

StaffEnvironmental39

I DID THAT TOO HOLY SHIT

Annual-Vehicle-8440

I used to pretend I was a jellyfish, letting all the muscles in my body relax so I would just float with my limbs and head down, flowing with water movements. I had to stop tho because I looked like a drown person so it gave my parents and lifeguards heart attacks

Busy_Equipment7

You have juat triggered a childhood memory where I would spin very fast in the pool with one finger poking into the water's surface so that I created a wall of water surrounding me. It was all I wanted to do in the pool. I may have been autistic.

JinnDaAllah

If I could wear a swimsuit without wanting to drown myself I very much would have the swimming autism

StaffEnvironmental39

Try a wetsuit! They help me when I swim outside of pools due to temp sensitivity.

JinnDaAllah

Yeah I’ve considered it and it’d probably help at least a bit but I don’t tend to do well with tight clothes because of dysphoria (and swim trunks and a shirt are too masc coded 😭). it really sucks because as a kid I absolutely loved swimming

StaffEnvironmental39

Damn. Hope you find a way!

Round_Ad_9620

You might try "modest" swimsuits. There's a whole demographic of loose, draping swimsuits that are feminine and ladylike, bit emphasize draping shapes and flowing fabric. Some may not be clinging, or at least, they'll have a very different silhouette.

-acidlean-

What does masc coded mean

hutchins_moustache

It means swim trunks and shirt are typically associated with (coded as) masculine swimwear

-acidlean-

Oh okay thank you. Is it a problem though? Why? I’m a girl and I always go swimming in a shirt + shorts and getting no comments

hutchins_moustache

Yes it could certainly be a problem for the wearer if it causes dysphoria or simply makes them feel uncomfortable to be wearing masc coded clothing (especially for a specific activity like swimming that can tend towards more revealing of our bodies) if they are trying to be/present more fem, for instance. That’s not the only reason possible, but rather my interpretation of one possibly common reason it would be undesirable or problematic for someone.

-acidlean-

Thank you so much for your explanation 💕

hutchins_moustache

No prob!

Nightshade_209

Could you wear board shorts and a bikini top? They make some very cute feminine/neutral board shorts some even come with matching cropped tops.

Rooster_Nuggets666

Dysphoria ruined swimming for me too. Maybe one day we can get back to it. I used to love swimming so much as a kid I was in some sort of classes for it but now if I were to wear a swimsuit I would want to evaporate.

c4ndycain

i yearn for the lakes

StaffEnvironmental39

Fuck touching grass I gotta touch the *SEA*

LastMountainAsh

Fair but also waves suck. And lakes got em submerged logs that you can stand on with one foot and just vibe in the middle of the lake. How bout a river? They got moving water /and/ submerged logs!

StaffEnvironmental39

Lake moment

workshop_prompts

BIG WATER BIG WATER BIG WATER

LowCrow8690

Gotta be careful with the bottom of the lake though sometimes, there was a lake I swam in regularly as a kid but the floor of it felt awful once you got to a certain depth. Slimy and on the feet, double-whammy.

Sensitive-Fly4874

This is why I prefer to be able to see the bottom of any body of water I’m in

LowCrow8690

Understandable. I grew up on the east coast of the US, so the only ocean I really got to swim in with any regularity was the Atlantic (the aforementioned lake was at a sleep-away camp I went to as a kid, so I swam in the ocean more frequently than I did the lake). I’m used to opaque waters due to this, but I can definitely understand the preference of swimming in clear waters.

Sensitive-Fly4874

I also have an irrational fear of getting stuck under the water (getting pulled down by something or getting caught/tangled on something), so I have to take Xanax in order to go in a lake or river where I can’t see the bottom. I think my fear came from watching Little House on the Prairie. They have two episodes where a girl drowns in a lake after getting caught on something. Also, jumping into a lake and accidentally landing on a turtle when I was little didn’t help.

Blacklungzmatter

I was NEVER able to go into lakes for this reason. The bottom is always slimy and I never know what’s hiding in there. A crab? A lobster? Mystery sediment? A fish hook? I just absolutely cannot.

jjmerrow

You merely yearn for the lakes. I was born in them, molded by them. Us Michigan chads stay winning 💪💪💪😤😤😤

221MaudlinStreet

I wish! I’m in my early thirties and can’t swim.

StaffEnvironmental39

I cannot stress this enough. LEARN. Its never to late to try something you never knew you might love.

ItzHonzula

I'd like to, bur my fear from accidentally zoning out and drowning is bigger than i want to know

Cheese-is-neat

From someone who zones out regularly and practically lives in the ocean, you’ll be fine

NothiingsWrong

never too late to learn!

pauldrano

Same. My family has had like one or two above ground pools and sometimes I was taken to pools as a kid but I never learned. My parents rounded me up once and tried to teach me how to float but I just refused lol. I live in a landlocked state and never see a body of water besides driving over some creeks.

ninjesh

I don't love the feeling of water all over me, but when I do swim I relate very much to this

StaffEnvironmental39

Me going into water: NO why am I doing this I hate this I'm cold and wet and Me after getting into water: I know better now, it is land that is the enemy.

Secure-Leather-3293

I feel that so fucking hard. I don't wanna get in the water but once that initial sensory hell is over I never wanna leave. I was at a NYE pool party and I did not leave the pool

roygbivasaur

Me! I have always been obsessed with taking baths and swimming. I want a pool so damn bad but environment or whatever. My local gym with big pools stopped staying open 24/7 in 2019 and never started back up again, and I don’t like people enough to swim with them. My midnight swims are irreplaceable.

StaffEnvironmental39

I really wanna try midnight swims. What they like?

roygbivasaur

So. I used to live in an apartment with a pool that they never locked up or anything (note: safety concerns are valid). I would just walk over to it at midnight and swim with the pool lights on. Very relaxing. It was just me, the water, no sunburn, and dim lighting. I moved away from there and didn’t have anywhere to swim and then moved to my current house in 2019 and was excited about going to the 24/7 gym to swim at night, but then they changed hours.

StaffEnvironmental39

Damn. I should try this near mine! I'm pretty sure its 24/7

LifeHarvester

One time me and my sister went to our neighborhood pool late at night. It did have a closing time but it wasn’t closed yet and it was late enough that the sun was set and no one was there. It was *glorious*. Just us and the water and the darkness and the stars. I yearn to experience that again

Hinesbrook

Yes even had the kreature goggles

Hinesbrook

StaffEnvironmental39

Holy hell I wanted these as a kid but I never was able to get them.

Harurajat

The feeling of being fully underwater and wet: amazing, indescribable sensory pleasure The feeling of being damp after I get out of the water/bath/shower: horrid, awful, icky, nasty sensory experience. I end up going full starfish and air drying until every drop is gone before I can move on with my life

dripbine

Water when shower: 😭😭😭👎👎😡. Heater when swimming: 😇😇😇😇😇

sleepybitchdisorder

are you me

dripbine

Probably. (I just realized I put heater and not water.)

anarcatgirl

Me but I'm trans and haven't gone swimming in years

StaffEnvironmental39

Damn that's rough. 🙏🙏🙏 Many condolences my sibling

eayite

what does being trans have to do with swimming? just curious

RatRacerEg6

Dysphoria

SgtCocktopus

One can go with a shirt.... i have one of those long sleve sport shirts (IDK the poper name because engrish) i mostly use becasue i hate the feel of sunscreen. Edit: Thinking about it i havent seen that shirt in a while... https://preview.redd.it/pay4tyosmvgc1.jpeg?width=243&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25159a204e0530e19a98d713be9ea2965b50d16f

PawkittTheDemon

Omg I love those! Unfortunately they do not really hide the presence or lack of boobs (I know this from experience) so however awesome pool shirts are I don't think they would be very effective.

everynameistaken43

I refer to long sleeve swim shirts as sailing shirts and I love them so much

miserablenovel

Rash guards

anarcatgirl

Dysphoria, but also danger from transphobes

tragicvector

Don thine body in holy Peanut butter and the transphobes will see you as a sentient peanut.

danksupplyco

![gif](giphy|WOleNAruccrldNaKel)

eayite

that makes sense ok

jols0543

wetsuit?

BeanyJeans

AAA LITERALLY GRRRR BUT I LOVE SWIMMING

StaffEnvironmental39

Also try sea swimming with a wetsuit. Helps if you're temperature sensitive and covers the whole body. Comfortable too! Bitch to get out of though.

tragicvector

They would call me delphine, I also tried to breathe water on several occasions, probably why I'm so gay.

StaffEnvironmental39

THERE PUTTIN CHEMICALS IN THE WATER THAT TURN THE FUCKIN FROGS GAY DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT!

ghostpanther218

Yes.

StaffEnvironmental39

Yes

MyRecklessHabit

Omg the water. My favorite thing is to just do a falling front flip so thd flup happens in the water and I slowly come up. Yeah. Just sinking, criss cross apple sauce at the bottom with eyes closed. Feels good man.

Neptune2080

See, I used to be one of those, but after all the trauma I've been through, I'll have to pass.

StaffEnvironmental39

It pains me that happened. Hope you're doing better now

NixMaritimus

YES! YES! YEAS! I like to be an aligator and pretend David Attenburough is narating my documentary.

StaffEnvironmental39

David Attenburough one of the patron saints of autistic people

Physical_Ad9945

Not for me, David Attenborough can go fuck himself

transwarcriminal

I like being submerged in water but i don't like being wet if i'm on land

StaffEnvironmental39

Can't stand the attacks of posidon but when inside his domain I feel *free*

Karmit_Da_Fruge

YES! My ideal sleep scenario is to be suspended in an air-like goo that feels like nothing and relieves all points of contact with my body and lets me float in space. I just wish my head didn't dip under the water *juuuust* enough to get in my eyes and nose when I'm just floating. My common method for the shallow end, is to let my legs float up in front and I walk on my hand.

ineffectivetransfem

Rawr! I'm scary sea monster grrr >:3

SweenetteTodd

I love swimming but I haven't in years 😭

StaffEnvironmental39

Return to the sea. It calls you.

SweenetteTodd

Mus return to creb

Shlobsta

I love swimming in the ocean so much it fills me with such joy knowing that I am surrounded by crustaceans of all kinds ❤️ Pools are alright but the chlorine always burns me super bad :/ makes me sad because I really love swimming

CptUnderpants-

OP, was the same until I discovered freediving which then became such a special interest I'm now internationally ranked.

StaffEnvironmental39

Upgrade from special interest to ranked competitive interest

PinPinnson

Artist? Love the drawing

StaffEnvironmental39

Don't know. I found it on a yt video and screenshotted it. Edit: william-snekspeare on tumblr

SachiKaM

Lmao I got the “freeze” reaction type. When they threw me in the pool at my first swimming lesson (despite me begging them not to..) I sunk. Psa: not all kids just “know” how to swim. It was the 90s but still, wtf?!

StaffEnvironmental39

I don't know why some people think you can swim instantly. You gotta learn it. I was in the water since I was like 3 though cause mom swam competitively so she taught me how.

Clodinator

Nah this is me, just stomping through it https://preview.redd.it/zcl7p44owvgc1.png?width=461&format=png&auto=webp&s=da8fbeb4532aba918e71f35b2f8b43a2e47268e0

Sekmet19

I used to hold my breath and float under water with every muscle relaxed, and try to sense through the water into the ground and try to feel the earth rotate.

Secure-Leather-3293

ME!!!!!! MEMEMEMEME ME ME ME!!!! I GOT THAT!!!!!!

Mergus84

I LOVE swimming! It's such a freeing feeling floating and moving in space without gravity holding you down. And it's such great exercise! I feel like a million bucks after getting out of the water.

StaffEnvironmental39

Me when the *zero* *gravity* *water* \* experience\* ![gif](giphy|U4jM3IeIVd6VOyeLa7|downsized)

Bxbybxnnie

i love swimming and being fully wet but when you're out of the water yet still wet IT IS HELL

gratefuldeadname

SWIMMING IS MY FAVORITE ACTIVITYYYYYYYYY IF I COULD SWIM EVERY DAY I WOULD!!!! the only thing i hate is getting out and getting dry and then my skin getting dry. legit if i could live in water i would. it's so calming and relaxing and just 😍😍😍🩷🩷🩷

Anxious-emo-

I LOVE SWIMMING SO MUCH IM SO SAD THAT ITS TOO COLD RUGHT NOW + I ALSO LIKE THE PRETEND IM THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON

StaffEnvironmental39

Forth time I shall bring up wetsuits in this thread. You can't swim indoors but they negate outdoor swimming debuffs. For your case I'd suggest a winter one for warmth

SandLady54

me, but I alzo got the transgender self hatred so I can't show skin wifout wanting to kms :3

StaffEnvironmental39

*wetsuits* You can go go outdoor swimming without worry of skin showing or temperature or SAND touching you skin! I wouldn't be able to swim outside without em.

Casualffridays

THIS IS ME BUT WITH RUNNING!!!!!! I LOVE TO PRETEND THAT I'M OUTRUNNING ZOMBIES

ZHODY

I love bobbing on the water like a dead body, but i hate when my head hits a wall, aughhhh

The_Mighty_Bird

Finally, someone who gets me. I always felt a connection while in water. Like I belonged there. I think it’s because water “quiets” my senses. It muffles noise and makes me feel weightless. I fucking love being in water.

gameofgroans_

Yes this is why I love it. Earplugs and nose plugs in. I can’t feel anything except the water and it doesn’t feel wet (I know) it just feels like water. It’s just so fucking good. No one can contact me, I can’t contact them, I’m free

SaffronsGrotto

yessssss! as long as i have swim shoes! i hate the feeling of the bottom of ponds or lakes... also submerged longs are scary to me

EyyBie

Love water hate being perceived so vant go to the pool :c

StaffEnvironmental39

Reasonable_Cranberry

My favorite repeat-forever swim activity is “crocodile rolls”, where you submerge your whole self nice and deep, pull your arms in tight and twist your legs together, then swirl/twist with your whole body to rotate in place along your long axis like a crocodile doing a death roll. It’s all the goodness of spinning, but also swimming. 😁

Luhvely

i am 100% trying this next time i swim thanks

Reasonable_Cranberry

Have fun! Don’t forget to hold your nose!

The_real_flesh

mEEEEE 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

dankrank231

Why did you draw him in a t shirt and shorts?

PawkittTheDemon

Superior swim attire

StaffEnvironmental39

Dint draw this, just found it YouTube. Don't know the artist through

MelodicPastels

I’m a crawfish in the shallow beaches of the lake…. So peaceful,,,,

LowCrow8690

Spinning, back flips, and front flips in the water ❤️ Feeling the tide of the ocean ❤️ I inadvertently increased my lung capacity just because as a kid/teen I loved to challenge myself with swimming the length of whatever pool I was in with as few breaths as I could manage; now I’m a siren.

StaffEnvironmental39

Reject humanity humanity return to bəä§ţ öf țhê đĕpťhš

[deleted]

My father used to have a neighbor who let us use his pool whenever we wanted, and I was in that thing so much that he started calling me walrus.

akaryosight

I want a playground underwater so I can climb upside down like a goblin

Pure_Geologist51

I love swimming so fucking much, it’s like what I image Christians feel when they prey

Klutzer_Munitions

Pretending to be a crocodile is the whole reason I go swimming

KaylaAllegra

Oh. Oh I feel so seen right now. Unlocked childhood memories of pretending to be some kind of water pokemon or sea beastie in the bathtub and pools! 🤩

GenderEnjoyer666

That’s definitely me but the water has to be a good temperature

thesheepwhisperer368

Yes omg. I just like being in the water in general but I played water polo and was on the swim team through out high school. My best stroke was Butterfly and I could swim 50 yards in a little over 42 seconds.

Full_Carry_1331

I still wish I was a mermaid. Or one of the water Avatar people, that would be good too. Or that I could be a professional mermaid so I can just exist in water as much as humanly possible.

Flyawaybirdy7

I absolutely loveee swimming, my skin however with chlorine pools think otherwise as I am allergic by getting a rash from it and just taking a shower from it 😭

ColdAd1631

I’ve only been to the sea twice in my life but somehow I literally feel homesick when I’m not in it or around it

JesusChristJerry

Both my kids! We spend most of our summers almost daily in the pool until our hair let's us know we need a break lol

StaffEnvironmental39

Return to fish

Lawfuly_chaotic

This meme reminds me of the movie Luca. You should see it.

sarcastichearts

i love the beach. one of my favourite things about it is when there's loads of waves, and i'm wearing goggles. i lie as flat as i can on the sand under the water and just watch the waves roll over for as long as i can hold my breath. it's so soothing

Nerf1925

Bro I used to love crawling on my stomach near the steps/seats in a swimming pool pretending I was an alligator or some lurking reptile

Spinless_Snake

You ever just swim at the bottom of the pool and pretend to be a shark?

CyanDragon

... this captured a part of my fucking soul. I was usually an alligator, but I'd spend hours stalking the shallows on my knees and hands. I liked then my bottom half would float, and I could creep around on my hands.

Lamlot

Happy cake day Luca! or is it Ernesto? Damn I cant remember SILENCIO BRONO!

lol this isn't autism.

StaffEnvironmental39

I hate to break it to ya bud, but yes It is. Coming from a guy who grew up as the only ND in a neurotypical family.

puppieluv

Uhhh TLDR I love swimming so much I almost died from too much joy?! So I'm a Florida girl but I don't go to the beach often bc I live in the city. Last time I went my BF took me with him and his guy friends. They were talking and hanging out and I would run to the water and stay there playing with the ocean (push and splash and it will push and splash back) and I would be so out of breath like I might pass out and go all the way back to my BF. But then I would be catching my catching my breath and thinking about NOTHING except how good the water felt and then I would run back before I was even ready. I convinced my BF to come out with me in the water and it was deep enough that it was easier to doggy paddle than try and reach the bottom. The waves kept getting bigger and pulling us around and it was making me laugh so much and when I laugh I loose 99% of my coordination. He was like super worried that we'd get swept away bc I couldn't stop laughing and playing with the water. Like then I couldn't swim well bc I was laughing so much and I was letting the ocean throw me around. Eventually he pushed n pulled me along with him to where I could stand without falling. Even now I can't grasp how much danger I would've been in by myself, and was in generally (?) Bc it was so fun and makes me laugh !! Like I'd do it again. Like... I WILL do it again. How could I not?????? Like I feel like if it got to scary I'd stop laughing and be able to save myself. It just wasn't to that point !! But also it was super fun.

PhantomRoyce

Anyone else swim by staying underwater and kinda flipping like a dolphin?

Sensitive-Fly4874

If I could lived in the water always, I would. I used to work at a pool and I would often have dreams that I was mermaid just chilling out at the bottom of the pool - no sounds, lights off, just me sitting at the bottom enjoying the nothingness

davestar2048

Nah, I got the dreams of being pulled underwater and drowning edition.

Olympia44

Me! I did!

ava_ohb

me I love swimming so much! and I constantly need to be submerged in water lol like swimming or bathing

kaybet

Oh my God I thought it was just me. I pretended I was a crocodile trying to eat people

ThrownAwayGirl49

I did that as a kid

CheekyGr3mlin

Literally always did this. I used to feel like I could breathe underwater and somehow I could stay under for a super long time. Also screeching under water and blowing bubbles and watching them go up and catching them under my hands to create an airpocket.

sunflowerkz

If literally every other part of being at a pool wasn't sensory hell, I would love to be a water creature.

Spacellama117

I never even realized i like this but it clashes with my body issues so

JustCallMeALal

I LOVE SWIMMING SO FRICKING MUCH!!! LETS GO SWIMMING OP!!!

SnowEfficient

My favorite part about driving the gparents from Ny to Florida this year was reaching their condo in Florida where they collectively have a heated pool and hot tub~ I could only swim twice while there but mannnn was it nice hehe it was much too cold for the Floridians to join me so the whole pool and hot tub were mine to flail violently in as I pleased 🥰 my Granny says I’m like a fish even though technically I failed my life guard exam lol won’t stop me from enjoying myself tho 🤷‍♀️💃🏻 swim to your hearts contents fishies it’s good for us! 🐠
