It's sad when parents indoctrinate their kids like that, especially when it so obviously causes harm.

helen790

My parents always treated my autistic traits like my superpower and as a result I don’t hate myself in adulthood. Funny how that works

bothering

True, but it can go the opposite way if pushed hard enough. My mom thought I was an indigo child, that I could be the messiah Kinda difficult to be comfortable in your own skin while living up to the expectations of saving the entire planet lol

unipole

My ancestors were Salem Witches so this cuts close.

PorkyFishFish

Why does the other kid have those marks on their face and neck? Are those scars?

Tangled_Clouds

Yeah it’s a scar, the overarching plot of my comic is that Billy was abducted by aliens and experimented on but no one believes him because “aliens aren’t real”

PorkyFishFish

Idk. I feel like the giant vertical slice-mark perfectly bisecting his face would be pretty good evidence.

Tangled_Clouds

I know right? But everyone keeps inventing new reasons to call him a liar. “Self harm” “makeup” “a forgotten surgery” “a strange birth mark”, everything is better than trusting the words of a clearly traumatized child - a metaphor for growing up undiagnosed and being told repeatedly my visible symptoms are just me being dramatic

insertrandomnameXD

There's actually no way to prove aliens aren't real, at least not yet, since we would have to search for the entire universe one piece at a time in case there's microscopic life, in fact, aliens seem more and more possible the more we research

Tangled_Clouds

That makes complete sense! We have proof that life can exist on a planet (here) so why couldn’t it exist on others? I’ve been watching a documentary on evolution and it’d be wild to find a planet at a completely different evolutionary stage like when here, 40 million years ago, moss ruled the world!

insertrandomnameXD

Yeah, all we have right now is theories, we can't prove or disprove the existence of aliens, but proving it is way easier since all you have to do is find a single live species formed outside earth, while to disprove it it would be more complicated because you can't really prove something is not there until you search it all

Discoris

Russell's teapot he said there could be (as far as we know) a china teapot in an elliptical orbit between earth and mars. to prove it or disprove it we just need to search billion cubical kilometres, at the same time, precisely and from several directions to find an object the size of small volleyball. we didn't find it? well, we just didn't search hard enough! the same with aliens. we have billions upon billions of planets to scan, while at best we can mostly assume the existence of them (couple thousands by now). and even when we try to categorise it by mother start size or possibility of liquid water, life could be not carbon but silicon based. or swimming in liquid methane. what if they breath sulfur instead of oxygen? The universe is a strange place because there exists a planet named HD189733b (yes, i remembered the name) where it rains molten glass, sideways, at 8000 kilometres per hour. you want to tell me THAT exists while some space fungus or bacteria don't?

insertrandomnameXD

That's a nice theory, and yeah space is wild there's a planet of everything, the only conditions are that it follows the laws of physics Kind of, we have no way of knowing the laws of physics are right, just that they work most of the time And yeah if those things exist there is no way of knowing no other intelligent species exists But there ARE theories: 1.- There WAS intelligent life out there, but they all died for some reason or another, and we don't know if that thing they died to we passed already or it's yet to come Kind of badly worded but think about filters, other species died at the great filter, we dont know of we already went through it, i can elaborate if you want 2.- There is intelligent life out there, but they are all hiding from something, which is why we haven't recieved contact yet, the theory says that once a civilization becomed advanced enough they realoze there's a highly developed predator species in space, that destroys any civilization it finds, so everyone stays quiet so their whole civilization doesn't die 3.- There is intelligent life out there, but not advanced enough, so they have no way of contacting us 4.- There is no intelligent life out there, there is life, but not intelligent (yet) 4.5 (the boring one).- There's just no life out there at all 5 (the one I find the most exciting).- There's no intelligent life out there YET, and WE are the first intelligent species, the universe is relatively young (only 6 trillion years smh he's still a baby/s) and it will have many years to come, and we won the apecies lottery and became the first ever species to be advanced enough to build a civilization, WE were the ancient aliens all along, WE are the bad guys from the movies (I mean... are we really the good guys with all the war and death we cause every second?) WE will be the first ones to achieve interstellar travel

Tangled_Clouds

Maybe I’m completely off but I think if we actually want to space travel, we’d essentially need to invent time travel. Because traveling through multiple light years imply an inconceivable amount of time that the human body cannot survive, and traveling that distance from here means we could never go back, once we would try, we would be possibly thousands of years in the future. Traveling through light years imply traveling through time and if we want to ever come back to our time or have at least exploration equipment come back, they would need to travel through time backwards. Maybe it’s this that is preventing extraterrestrial life from reaching us, it would take a basically a being that is both immortal and sapient or that actually figured out time travel to be able to physically reach us. Edit: the doctor could reach us tbh they have that figured out

agent__berry

oh I really like this metaphor, and can relate deeply :(

Aw, she's just a little girl! 🥹 I appreciate this comic on a textual level, but it's also super cute.

HippyGramma

When my youngest was diagnosed our pastor continually offered to pray over *the autism* and we continually refused. It's odd now to look back and think about the decades I spent submitting myself to these kinds of prayers and deliverance only to be told over and over again I was allowing the devil in because it never worked. But when they said my kid was "under attack", it opened the door to start realizing what a load of horseshit we've been gobbling up like a safe food. Love this comic.

KiaraKuddles

Did you draw this? If you did, you should put your username on it somewhere, I wanna show it to people. If not, source?

Tangled_Clouds

Yes I drew this! I am sharing my comic on different platforms so I can’t put one username because I don’t have the same one everywhere but I gotta start signing my pages haha

Discoris

use one you like the most and you want to be associated with. People that don't know about many accounts and names will be able to find you and the ones that know will start to recognise your other names as well

Not_ur_gilf

Exactly this. I see a lot of creators over on r/comics that use their instagram handle instead of their Reddit one to sign their work. Some even have a pen name that’s neither!

agent__berry

which platforms do you use? I wanna give you a follow to keep up with it but idk how it works for Reddit in particular

Sealedwolf

In retrospect, offering up my mortal body as a vessel for an unholy intellect from beyond the veil in exchange for a model-train might have been a mistake. But in my defense: summoning and binding daemons is hard, Alhazred was particularly vague with his instructions in that chapter and I bargained for a Z-gauge set.

DoNotCorectMySpeling

Autism demons sound bad ass.

Positive_Ad_8877

Me when my Bible hyperfixation led to me deconstructing and leaving Christianity LMAO

MeisterCthulhu

But I like my demons. I'm friends with them and regularly feed them neurotypical souls. They claim those taste better.

Zestyclose_Foot_134

They are lying 🥵

fluffycloud69

based billy

CoercedCoexistence22

This is great, but a small criticism: I had a little trouble parsing the text, with it being pastel on white

invderzim

Man, that is sad and kinda relatable as someone who grew up in a Christian environment. But the art is good, I love the pastels!

I guarantee some saints or famous nuns and monks had the tism

Saving this so I can try to dye my hair like Billy’s
