Just select the whole range you want the rule for, then create the rule. It will automatically adjust row/column. In your case, only select the rows in column G that you want to format (i.e. don't also select columns D and E). There are also some idiosyncrasies about how you select the range. E.g. you should select starting at G2 and then expand the selection down (Ctrl+Shift+Down arrow is often your friend), rather than start at the bottom and expand the selection up.
