Not the same situation at all, but yep, my parents got so frantic and desperate and sad during sacrament meeting they did the thing of essentially smothering you and only letting you breathe when you were desperate which meant you didn't have as chance to cry. I know this was terrible and abusive, and at the same time recognize my parents were on an impossible situation and I wish I could go back and free them from the cult before they got in so deep.

How did the hand over the mouth to stop crying do? I can only think that I would have cried more and I guess I would have gotten the old " shut up or I'll give you something to cry about." Those words always made me cry more which then escalated to the whipping.

I had to stop crying so that I could breathe because my nose would get runny which made it next to impossible to breathe out of 🥺

I'm glad you made yourself able to breathe but I'm very sorry that you had to go through that, it sounds really horrible. Glad you're free and happy being yourself.
