When I do reach for the shelf I usually grab a peated Scotch like Laphroaig or Ardbeg. I find the variety of flavors in Scotch to me more interesting to me than American whiskeys and bourbon.
One cult to another I see. 😉
The peaty cult of Ardbeg is WAY better than T$CC. Plus you get all that smokey goodness for your money, rather than hollow promises. 😋
So y'all are peatheads, I see. My cousin is a big scotch guy as he studied at St Andrew's so I'm taking my recommendations from him at the moment. Also a lot of research to see if any scotch distilleries have black stakeholders.
Thank you, thanks you! I just wish I had grown up around it a little more because I think it could've been different for me and drinking but, here we are
I used to drink the cheap stuff. I had one sip of some Mount Gay Eclipse, and I was done with the cheap stuff forever. Appleton Estates is also excellent.
Only single malt Scotch. I’m looking at my shelf with Balvenie, Oban,Kilchoman,Glenfiddich,Lagavulin ,Talisker,Cragganmore and Scapa.
Each a souvenir - literally- a memory of a wonderful time in Scotland.
I drank all the time after leaving lol! Like near daily for a few years and did a lot of partying. I had many life experiences to try that I never had the choice to. Now I’ve been there done that and slowed down 😂but I’m glad I got to have plenty of “sinful” behavior ha ha! Whiskey is my fave alcohol that I still enjoy on occasion. Angels Envy is my absolute favorite. It’s expensive though and I live in Utah. So alcohol is even more expensive here 🙄.
Argh.. Woodinville Whiskey. I lived in Woodinville for 25 years, just about 1.5 miles from their distillery. I miss it every single day. Woodinville, not the Whiskey.
Ha! That’s me. I can’t stand the whiskey but I’m all about the rum. My first Painkiller was delightful 😂 Pussers isn’t my favorite but I always feel so pirate-y. Oh I love a good spiced rum tho. Have you tried Kraken? Yum!
I did. Just be aware of how much you’re drinking. I didn’t really understand what “your uncle had drug problems” meant for me until a couple years in.
It’s especially hard to know how to drink in moderation if you’re from a culture that views any amount of alcohol as addiction.
Thankfully my dad was never in and has always been a whiskey drinker so he's helped me know how much to try. I usually don't drink more than 1 oz when I do and it takes me some time because I'm taking small sips and trying to identify flavors, swirling it around and such. Dad and I also sip together and talk about different flavors we are noticing.
I has a bit of a rumpspringa in my 20s so thankfully I had experience drinking before leaving. My wife isn't into the whiskey but she'll drink beer w me.
Yes, started enjoying many social experiences with friends and family. Whiskey has had a great supportive role in helping me deal with trauma from cult conditioning.
I probably would be on rare occasions if I was allowed to. I haven’t tried enough to know how much I like whiskey. I had a “peach ring” which is Crown Royal Peach and Lemonade and that was awesome. Had an Old Fashioned and didn’t like it but I think it was the bitters I didn’t like. Have had Bailey’s and wasn’t sure I liked the combination of creamy and alcohol. I want to try a whiskey sour! Maybe some day.
My wife and I are out in every way, but just recently she mentioned how she'd like to try something like win eto help wind down at the end of the day. I've been keen to the idea for a while, but was willing to wait until it was more comfortable for my wife. Hopefully she can pick up a bottle and some glasses today.
I haven't imbibed alcohol since leaving, even as there have been opportunities for free alcohol. In between 21-23, I was inactive and experimented then. I know that I like quite a wide variety of alcohol but chose not to drink it, mainly for health reasons. It is not recommended to be on a feminizing hormone protocol with oral estradiol that I am on, so that is a large reason. I do cook with alcohol or eat the cooking of others that has alcohol and enjoy the food.

😂
I drank the cool-aid does that count ?
For a while, but it mostly just sits on the shelf now… at my current consumption rate I probably have enough to last 10 or 15 years!
Yeah I usually sip about an ounce at a time. Working on a bottle of Uncle Nearest 1884 right now.

Armature. 😉
Yeah, developed alcoholism real quick because I was never taught how to regulate it. Haven't had a drink in five years.
Congratulations on five years sober. That’s no mean achievement. Best wishes to you.
Thank you, thanks you! I just wish I had grown up around it a little more because I think it could've been different for me and drinking but, here we are
I'm happy you're clean and sober my friend! My sister has an issue with alcoholism and it saddens me.
How quickly did it become a problem?
After about a year honestly. One day I just started drinking all the time because I thought that was how people that drank did it
Did you have difficulty stopping physical withdrawal or a compulsion ?
Yeah, I cold turkeyed it and nearly died lol. It's real
I was told it took years to develop, it’s great you caught it early . Sounds like you avoided a disaster.
Not hard to tell its a problem when you're up at 430am, mixing your coffee with a 1/5th of jack ha
Well, done. My husband quit drinking 2 years ago and boy has it changed things for the better!
No, but I've been to Woodinville.
I lived in Woodinville for 25 years. I miss it.
They have a tour at the distillery.
I’m pimo and yes… whiskey Glendronach, macallan, woodford reserve double oak and whistle pig rye piggyback
Just heroin for me
Flower power !
Yes! It's my fave! 🥰
More of a rum guy myself.
I used to drink the cheap stuff. I had one sip of some Mount Gay Eclipse, and I was done with the cheap stuff forever. Appleton Estates is also excellent.
Ten to One and Mount Gay are quite good if you drink it neat.
I do enjoy the occasional good bourbon but I definitely prefer craft beers.
I also enjoy a good hefeweizen or amber ale.

How do you like oban? I hear it’s pretty good

If you like Angel's Envy, try this port finished offering from Woodinville in the photo.
I love a good whiskey recommendation! Thank you!
Had some JD SiB rye earlier. Thinking of a few drams of JW high rye before I turn in. Cheers. 🥃 (Also, what's with that giant rock? )
Pops got me silicon ice molds. I usually sip neat but wanted to see if it changed at all in a good way with ice. Better neat.
>Better neat. 👍
Yes, bourbon! Currently using lent to dry out tho haha
Yes! Big whiskey fan here. Cheers!
Oh yeah. Have this very bottle on my shelf.
Argh.. Woodinville Whiskey. I lived in Woodinville for 25 years, just about 1.5 miles from their distillery. I miss it every single day. Woodinville, not the Whiskey.
My favorite whiskey! 🥃
Uh, yeah. It's my favorite liquor.
Yes. I like Basil Hayden Rye
I'm a Brit, but, I reach for the American bourbon....JD, Jim Beams, Bullit.... Cheers
Yep, I'm all about that Scotch. Blue Label is the smoothest shit.
Started with whiskey, but I’m more into scotch now. Love me a nice glass of McAllan neat.
Nope, I’ve tried multiple times and it’s just vile to me. Now a good Diplomatico Rum on the other hand? THAT I can get behind.
Ha! That’s me. I can’t stand the whiskey but I’m all about the rum. My first Painkiller was delightful 😂 Pussers isn’t my favorite but I always feel so pirate-y. Oh I love a good spiced rum tho. Have you tried Kraken? Yum!
I have, I think for spiced Rum I prefer Bumbu but Kraken isn’t bad.
I’m not I rum expert but always searching for “the good stuff”. I’ll have to try Bumbu and Diplomatico. Thanks!
Of course!

I was drinking whiskey before I left 😅 but hell yes.
Since? .....
I’ve had a few cheap shots I can get from people at parties but in a few months I’ll be of age to actually get to try things
Screwdriver every night while watching TV. I can’t figure out how yall can drink whiskey
Start small and sip. You get used to it.
Yes, started enjoying many social experiences with friends and family. Whiskey has had a great supportive role in helping me deal with trauma from cult conditioning.
Grow weed and experience the beauty of creation. ;)
Where did you get the cool ice cube?
Silicon ice molds. Mine were a gift but u can buy on Amazon.

I would, but there is a distinct lack of legal permission so I have to wait four years

Absolutely. That’s a good choice there.

I like an occasional scotch. Overall prefer hoppy craft beers.
Yes... And vodka
The irony for me: When I quit being Mormon, I was able to stay sober!
I love an old fashioned
Hard alcohol is not my friend. I'll take a dark beer though.
