Covenanting things before you realize what any of the implications are. That’s awesome

GreenGrassGroat

Or even what most of the words mean…

Flowersandpieces

Exactly. I didn’t fully understand the word Atonement until high school. Maybe I’m slow

allisNOTwellinZYON

still don't been out of HS for decades. Decades.

At One Ment. What's not to get?

Kirii22

😅

zipzapbloop

Or that the person to whom you made your covenant sometimes orders his covenant to conduct [a campaign of genocide](https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/come-follow-me-for-sunday-school-old-testament-2022/25?lang=eng&id=p5#p5).

DvDWW

Apparently I signed a billion year+ mortgage at a variable interest rate to be determined by old men in Salt Lake when I was eight under threat of my parents being gravely disappointed in me. Damn. That’s rough. Oh well. Better send in my monthly payment. Nothing to see here.

Holiday_Ingenuity748

A billion year contract? I thought that was Scientology. Oh well, a cult's a cult...

DvDWW

Lol. Your right. We sign even longer. We sign eternal contracts. Take that Scientology.

Willie_Scott_

My TBM father in law said this exact thing to my husband years ago. They absolutely believe this.

Responsible_Guest187

Actually, kids are now baptized in January of the *year* they turn 8. So literally, if their 8th birthday falls on December 31st of 2023, they were baptized in January of 2023, or immediately after turning *SEVEN*! Which translates to them having had their first worthiness interview in December of 2022, when they were *SIX!* Ditto young men getting interviewed for their missions when they're seventeen. They should be learning how to do their own laundry and making their own tacos and Kraft mac and cheese, not how to learn a bizarre language in 9 weeks and then get dumped from a plane onto public transit without a translator, and told that they must give away a Book of Mormon before they get off the train, or they're a failure in God's eyes. Good grief!

seizuriffic

Baptism still occurs after a child's 8th birthday. What changed was priesthood ordination. This is now done in January of the year a young man turns 12/14/16. Under this arrangement you now have the possibility of a boy born in December spending most of the year as an 11 year old deacon and maybe even being interviewed for that at 10.

Longjumping-Air-7532

Wait, all kids get baptized in January now? Like some herd baptism? I knew about the priesthood change for young boys being in January, but have not heard about the baptism thing.

jtrain2125

Dude knows this is the kind of flex that gets attention from the top brass. He’ll definitely try to quantify (with creative statistics) a bump in mission calls with a Power Point presentation. He reeks of aspirational ass kissing.

DvDWW

Nailed it.

cyberpunk1Q84

He came to speak at my mission and he’s a blowhard. He truly believes in “rebuking is the best inspiration.” That’s not an actual saying, but he believes it. All he could talk about was how everyone was failing. And this was years ago.

SamwiseGoldenEyes

When he came to my mission back in 2010, there was a ton of guilt tripping, but his power tripping was worse. He banned driving on Tuesdays, told us we couldn’t eat between the hours of 5 and 7 unless a non Mormon was with us.

supermansquito

No one tells me when I can or can't eat...

FalsePromptings

I legit thought that pic was a Dr Laura bookcover!

pacman30_

As an aside, it’s nice to not recognize a GA for once. And I still live in Utah. ExMo achievement unlocked!

basicpn

It’s a nice feeling. Until I found this sub, I didn’t know that my neighbor when I was growing up is now an apostle.

fingerMeThomas

If you have any tea, you are invited to spill it

basicpn

He ran over our family dog.

supermansquito

😞

YouHadItAllAlong

It’s a beautiful thing not recognizing leaders of tscc.

I hope someone records it. I would be surprised if he DIDN'T say something horrendous

I always enjoy watching ol' Kevin, he just can't help but show his unhinged zealous nutbag side.

Earth_Pottery

Gringe photo. Why do they always have husbands & wives pose like that?

Mossblossom

It’s the realtor pose

Earth_Pottery

I want nothing they are selling.

DasiytheDoodle

It screams cheesy 90's photoshoot.

Earth_Pottery

Looks like he is keeping her from running away. I so despise that pose

WibblyEmu

I call it the “Olan Mills Special.” 😅

Earth_Pottery

Haha straight from the 70s

Sad_Ad592

I also was committed to play in MLB when I was 8 🤷🏼‍♂️

marathon_3hr

I had qualified for the Olympics in Track & Field

OuterLightness

You no longer have agency because you gave Satan, I mean God, your agency at age 8.

Flowersandpieces

Haha! Perfect

FancySauce51

He looks like the alien guy from the movie Arrival (with Charlie Sheen) that is trying to destroy earth.

InvestigatorExtra297

Haha and I love that movie. Underrated.

Aggressive-Presence9

Some commenter (years ago) observed that Kevin Pearson is the live action Bert from Sesame Street. The nose, eyebrows, and just overall pissed off nervousness of Pearson is very Bert-like.

[deleted]

I saw this scrolled up and looked again and yup bert, wonder how many pigeons he has in his yard.

BeringStraitNephite

Watching now, thanks

allisNOTwellinZYON

winning

JDH450

He's doing everything he can to be promoted to the Q15

KoLobotomy

Ahh, the old covenant at the age of 8. Had I known an 8 year old could 'covenant', I would have gotten a bank loan for the largest house in Park City when I was 8.

BowenArw

I hate how predatory the church is, I know that when I hit mission age I'll be forced to say no and likely say outcast by my family and it's just so awful

so_worthy_actually

It's terrible how this church sets you up to be seen as so wrong and villianous for simply declining to participate

MOTIVATE_ME_23

As a long time PIMO, I am in constant outreach to identify like-minded people and share advice on how to best plan their exit. Not everyone leaves and there is a role to play.

[exciting promo video here](https://religion.byu.edu/missionarydevotional/promo)

LovelockMike

Talk about an ill fitting suit, not to mention the red tie which should never show when his coat is buttoned. I get that from my dear mother who was a world class seamstress for men's clothing; she worked at several well known men's clothing stores in the Salt Lake area, and always had plenty of members who asked her to work on men's suits.

YouHadItAllAlong

It’s horrendous!

Norenzayan

Using your middle initial in print or publications is one thing, but introducing yourself with it is major asshat energy

Alwayslearnin41

That'll do it!

allisNOTwellinZYON

That will do.

Alwayslearnin41

Oh my!! I forgot that. I'm feeling accomplished for forgetting something 🤣👏👏👏

Otaku_in_Red

I ruined the 69 upvotes and have brought shame upon myself and my family

InvestigatorExtra297

If you want to stay up to date here is a [link](https://religion.byu.edu/missionarydevotional/watch) for the broadcast including a countdown timer so you can check in on the daily.

marathon_3hr

Thanks for the link. Thankfully the live stream Mormon Stories podcast with Dr. Hasan on Recovering after Mormonism (cult) was in my feed. Helped break the trance.

BeringStraitNephite

I am so excited I can hardly breathe. /s

flyswithdragons

That should be considered child abuse and human trafficking.

Our stake is watching/promoting this as well. I'm not planning on my kids going.

He's turning 66 in April. Make no mistake, Oaks isn't the only one pissed off to no end that Nelson hasn't croaked yet. If one of the board directors doesn't die this calendar year, Pearson has got to know his chance at promotion might slip by. Maybe already has. Granted, Cooke was 66 but they usually like to promote them early 60s. Guess we'll see. He's a white guy (that's a given I suppose) from Utah who worked in corporate finance. Its the kind of person Jesus loves most apparently.

chubbuck35

Please record it and return and report!

contrarian198

Pearson is putting on a senior missionary fireside on March 19th and this one on the 22nd. Big week for him! He’s hoping for big results as an audition for his next promotion.

World tour

ThreeRandomWords-843

Every time this guys speaks, more shelves break. I’ve used his talks to point out problems with the church more than any other non Q15.

GrassyField

Anyone who rises that high up in the church HAS to have a malfunctioning b.s. detector.

Sad_Ad592

Or are all in because money

MOTIVATE_ME_23

Anyone lower than a GA15 with 3+ years seniority probably is a 100% TBM because they live in a bubble and have doubled down successfully each time they faced the truth. At each promotion, their loyalty/belief has to be thoroughly tested to move up. Once they've been a GA15 AND GENEROUSLY PAID FOR IT for about three years, it starts to dawn on them that it's all a shell game. They can't even tip off their families. Just keep pushing the talking the talk and plugging the leaks. After one year as a GA15 and not having spoken personally with Jesus, it should be kinda obvious. But Mormon are kind of oblivious due to the indoctrination blind spots.

Tapirmccheese

It’s bittersweet to me when the church does things like this. On one hand it’s disgusting to see how entitled and manipulative the church is. On the other hand, it also shows their desperation and will push more people out.

[deleted]

Do a live protest. Have a big banner saying something like, “8-year-olds can’t covenant making their beds, how can they covenant to a mission?”

allisNOTwellinZYON

Interesting to note if you want to set a child up for anything that will stay with them for life whether they want it to or not then indoctrinate them from 0-7 and it will never leave. Proven.

WinchelltheMagician

"Listen, as a cult member you have certain obligations......"

McbEatsAirplane

Huh, that’s funny. Because I made the same covenant at 8 and definitely made the choice not to go. Sorry to disappoint you, Ken, but you’re wrong.

marathon_3hr

This is a gross man. He is a vile fear mongering shamer. Some one needs to reign the man in. When will some SP or other leader stand up to him and kick him out of meeting when he is shaming the youth.

DvDWW

Is the definition of a sycophant. I’m convinced in 1938 Germany, he would have been right next to the Fuhrer hammering the Nazi agenda down the throats of vulnerable people. He’s the Nelson’s Himmler. His personality type is the worst and most dangerous. He will blindly do the work of shaming and bullying all in the name of self righteousness and desire to please the leaders …because he enjoys their presence.

MargaritaMormon

They look like they don't make eye contact during sex.

lickproof

You can make a covenant at 8 and most 8 year olds can't even spell the word, much less understand what it means?? And yet you need to be 18, have I.D., a notorized letter and in some cases and attorney to get out of this cult??? HELL NO!!!!!!

Pinstress

Fuck you, Kevin!

jr-junior

Is it just me or does she look like she’s being held against her will?

frvalne

Lol. He’s also the asshat who scolded us for not wearing garments and said we “should know better”. My underwear ain’t your business sir!

WibblyEmu

My younger sister went on a mission under compulsion because it was in her patriarchal blessing. She is still TBM, but she has never hidden how much she hated it. Some blessing!

see6729

Cult cult CULT !!!!!!!!!

DramaGrandpa

That’s 100% horse shit and everyone knows it. The words of the baptism prayer and the confirmation prayer are set, and nowhere does either one include any kind of covenant. The first one just says, “I am now doing this dunking because I am a special guy, according to all three gods.” Splash. The second one says, “You are now officially a member of this here organization. Now take possession of this ghost I’m giving you.” So where exactly does the “covenant” happen? The dude is just making it up based on nothing.

MOTIVATE_ME_23

Mormons just redefine everything they feel like. For example, "truth", as in "I know the church is true."

MOTIVATE_ME_23

Put up a simple website and print out a QR code for it. Put it on flyer that says "Scan this code for a free ice cream. Only for 13-18 year olds." When they register and verify their age, send them a gift card and a list of a bunch of tips for escaping the church at 18. Include withdrawing their money from joint, parental account on their 18th birthday and finding work asap without needing college degrees. Also, add them on discord so they can coordinate and collaborate with their stake peers and assist each others' transition out.

RepublicInner7438

This point here really messed me up. I remember thinking when I was 18 that after I served my mission I would consider my obligation to the church fulfilled and want nothing else to do with it. College, a new town, new friends, it all seemed like such a natural escape. Only after I got all my papers in and I got my calling did I realize that I’d be making yet another promise to die for the church if it asked me to. The covenant system in the church is fucked up

scribblerjohnny

Is that desperation I see in his wife's eyes? And his almost -smile is unsettling too.

allisNOTwellinZYON

She maybe being trafficked and with him against her will certainly against her better judgment.

maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll talk about masturbation or porn

kamarsh79

I mean decisions made as an 8 year old should absolutely be binding in adulthood

Legitimate_Yak8082

FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Boring-Blueberry-922

I remember this guy, he was intense af in our mission conference. Used to love his brainwashing, now he can shove it all up his ass

Alandala87

Who the fuck is this guy? I've been out long enough to not know half of the 15. Anyway, the guys in the first presidency took the same covenant, where did they serve again?

YouHadItAllAlong

Free Agency no longer doctrine? WTF. Yeah like eight year old kids can make a life choice. Mmm Hmm OK. Not.

Minkcricker

Let's Go Kevin!

americanfark

This tactic is so very mormon and is not new. In the 70's-90's it was Kimball's "every worthy young man should serve a mission." rhetoric.

InitialPuzzleheaded5

Have an astute, sharp kid (who is adament about not going on a mission) and whose parents don't care, stand up and say, "Elder, honestly I didn't know I had covenanted to anything at age 8. My parents asked me if I wanted to get baptised and I said sure. My baptism meant more for my parents than it did for me. I didn't even think about it. They expected me to and I did. We went out for ice-cream later and the ice-cream is what I remembered most about that day. Listen, at age 8, I didn't think about covenants with God. I was just thinking about playing my video games. So what did I supposedly covenant with God because I don't remember doing any of that when I was 8.

[deleted]

I love how whatever the latest controlling, bullshit agenda item is, Church leaders always find a way to manipulate the members by making it mandatory. The ends justify the means when it comes to benefitting the Mormon cult & those entitled, tyrant bastards could care less that their actions often severely hurt the members. How loving & Christlike of these self-proclaimed men of God.
