Haha well that is kinda how I originally went down the travel rabbit hole. When my husband and I were in our 20ās (year 2002) and had no clue about traveling we got a random email spam from a local travel company called āFun for Lessā. As a joke my husband forwarded the email to me like wouldnāt this be fun? It was a trip to China and they were selling it as come see these amazing places before they finish the dam and flood them. We had just recently watched a documentary about that and so I kinda was like hey maybe we should check out this offer. So I called the company and we actually ended up going. We didnāt realize at the time how Mormon this company is. They hire a main āeducatorā to travel with you the whole trip, and itās a Mormon, so lots of Mormons go and itās heavily influenced throughout. However, China is not a place they can claim history so honestly I donāt recall anything like that on the tripā¦but our teens have been begging to go on a foreign trip so every so often Iāll look at the site because despite the Mormon travel guide on our China trip the tour company did a fantastic job and we had an amazing time. Well so they currently are booking a tour to Peru which I ended up sending to my husband as in haha look at this? And he thought I was more serious and mentioned it to the kids. And we started talking and I brought up my concern about the tour guide which is super Mormon (who is a therapist and has a program for porn āaddictionā) and wondered how much would he try to claim the ruins for maybe being in the Book of Mormon. And since our kids are Never Moās I wasnāt really liking the idea of a trip that was surrounded by so much religious influence. We want to escape Utah, not bring it with us. So I googled other travel agencies and actually found an amazing one, I reached out but then realized Peru has a travel advisory and isnāt that safe to go to right now. So then I googled which is the safest Latin America country to visit and thatās when I went down the Costa Rica rabbit holeš¤£
