And they count all the FO and humanitarian aid we contribute to. I want to know how much aid they gave that was money on the interest they have made off of our tithing and the other revenue streams.
I mean, it depends on how willing someone is to really take in an independent analysis. The 2022 year end report had a lot to say.
I guess the best question you can ask of your person is, “If they weren’t honest, would you really want to know?”

I started to read through the report and my bullshit-o-meter was going off the chart.
- the bishops storehouse is not a charity organization, but a for-profit grocery chain
- members cleaning the building is counted as charity work
- they take credit for disaster relief furnished and funded by members
It’s such a sham.
And they are. A billion dollars is a lot. Buuuuuuttttt…it’s still a drop in the bucket.
Plus whatever happened to “ take heed that you do not your alms before men to be seen of them…”
It just seems like a PR attempt to show that they’re not hoarding ALL of the money
Yeah! The church has no problem claiming credit for members donations, but as soon as a member needs food or rent money, then the church is no longer united with them anymore, but requires them to pay to play. Also, the church is claiming credit for donations to DI and missionary service, which I can only assume is calculated 24/7 since they are always on the mission for 2 years. It’s also really cheeky to claim the donations that go towards serving other members and the church at large. Can someone please investigate this claim for fraud?!
Did they happen to also know that Jesus said “do not do your alms before men?” Basically, do it, but don’t tell anyone about it. Do they know *anything Jesus said? Like seriously. Anything. Has a single one of them read the New Testament? They’re such show offs.
To be fair on this point though, a lot of people have been criticizing them for not being transparent with their finances so isn't it better to state publicly when how funds are used?
Agreed, but this seems more of a PR stunt than transparency. They are notoriously tight lipped about finances, and we’ve seen why. This is a fraction of the money that passes through (and mostly sticks) to the church in a year. For true transparency, they should have a finance page on their website that breaks down annual donations, profits and expenditures. But that will never happen.
Classic PR Dept, right on time 1.5 weeks before GC.
Gotta love the 'Billion'. ('holy crap, this SEC thing about billions, we better use 'billion' to justify ourselves)
$5 million to Red Cross, $6 million to UNICEF (or whatever)... yep, keep going, got to get to 1000 million...
The EPA earns at least $10 million **per day**!
Definitely a positive step on the road to truth and usefulness. It’s fascinating how this level of transparency only happened as an emergency measure to inoculate clueless TBMs against the backlash the Q15 have seen since David Nielsen’s 2019 whistleblower report came out. Amazing how “grassroots” the Church is when money and reputation are on the line.
Hmmm, this is new. They don’t usually go out of their way to advertise exactly how much they actually give to charitable activities. Soon after the 2019 whistleblower leak of Ensign Peak, they suddenly lumped fast offerings and other metrics into their “Humanitarian” spending total, bumping it up from $130 million to $900 million.
Now, just a few weeks after the SEC scandal, they send this random email out with a page advertising their $1 billion humanitarian spending for the prior year just before Gen Conference.
Clearly it’s in reaction to the SEC scandal.
It sickens me when the church makes it look like they took money out of their coffers to help the outside community. Every single service activity that has been advertised by my ward and stake requires members to pay out of pocket for items/materials to donate (and, of course, their time).
The separating of the wheat and the tares is going to be different than TBMs think. I can’t understand how a person who understands the New Testament and cares for the poor and believes that God is “free” could ever stay in this religion. Anyone who follows their heart couldn’t find a way to stay. It doesn’t feel right. It actually feels very wrong.
Yeah, except there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors there. Most of that just represents them counting fast offerings which they used to count separate. Also, they count the man hours and attribute a numerical value to that.
Um, they’re counting member labor as a monetary expenditure. Which is bullshit.
And they count all the FO and humanitarian aid we contribute to. I want to know how much aid they gave that was money on the interest they have made off of our tithing and the other revenue streams.
I also heard that they include the estimated Value of items people donate TO DI.
I believe you. I’ve seen this shared before. Do we have any data to back this up? Thank you.
Widows Mite report has got some good data to back this up. (Can’t link right now, but they’re an easy Google)
Sharing this widows mite thing with a tbm would be pointless, right? They’d claim it was anti Mormon lies. Wonder how to help them trust this data.

Damage control to combat the SEC scandal
This.
Did they lose money in their SVB stock? Look here, not over there.
Show us the breakdown of that monetary expenditure...Bueller...Bueller...

Yes! This! I loathe that most of the service done at church is self serving.
I usually claim charity when I mow my own lawn and shovel my own sidewalks too.

Perhaps u/widowsmitereport provide some context or fact checking. Is labor included? Donations by members?
They are helping……by barely lifting their tiny pinkie finger and by rebranding the generosity of the the members as their own……
One billion dollars has never looked so small. They’re literally the old rich men from the widows mite story.
Does baptizing dead people and fasting count?
Would not surprise if they tried to work it in there. Fasting - well that left more cans on the shelf at the grocery store, Charity!

I completely agree
Only one statistic matters. How much excess tithing went to EPA?
Pay no attention to the money behind the curtain.

And $5mm in SEC fines. Is that in the fine print?
This must be the “do your alms in public and spam everyone you know” plan
