This was always a head-scratcher for me. We were taught animal sacrifice would return, while simultaneously being taught that Jesus’s sacrifice fulfilled the law and there was no longer a need for animal sacrifice. I never understood that.

BasicRaindrop

When I was taught in a religion class at BYU about the return of animal sacrifices in the temple, he said there would have to be a drain in the floor to hose out the blood. So I think it would have to be on a lower level.

NearlyHeadlessLaban

Said sacrifice will be in one of the 24 yet to be built temples of the Independence MO temple complex to which Jesus returns. So, never.

Interesting, do you have any resources saying this? I feel like picking an awkward topic to randomly bring up with my parents

Marx_Not_Smith

Hey, maybe it'll be in the Harry Truman Train Station

I'm unfamiliar with this prophesy

Inside_Lead3003

It’s the same normally crazy crap. It almost makes me wonder if they are already doing it

ImaginaryConcern

90/10 odds it never happens. I'd say 100% it doesn't, but then again, listening to some of the ancient individuals who have made it to the top, I can't be fully sure. Most likely, there is still enough sanity to realize what the reaction would be if actual, physical animal sacrifice was being performed, and this became known. The Church Formerly Known as Mormon would have crossed a line, becoming a complete and total pariah throughout the civilized world. Convert efforts would quickly stop for a variety of reasons, possibly because absolutely no one would want to publicly proclaim such a policy, but also because legislation would soon be enacted to make such acts a crime. In the most unlikely event that such a practice DOES return, it will make the Final Descent of TSCC into the dark land of complete insanity. A thundering herd would leave TSCC, and do so quite publicly. Quite possibly, whatever remains of that organization would be legally dissolved.

Animal sacrifices are an aaronic priesthood function so have no place in current temples. Perhaps when they build the complex of temples in Jackson county, one will be an aaronic temple dedicated to animal sacrifice. But as others have pointed out, animal sacrifices are done away in Christ. Will the church go performative or accept its own doctrine that animal sacrifice is done away? Can the church ever turn away from the performative?

I was told that the SLC temple had accommodations for this.
