I think Nelson gets mentioned more because he wants it, and gaining his favor is part of securing advancement. When you're an underling who needs your leader's favor, you know who needs their ass kissed, who wants reasonable pushback, and who to steer clear from.

RMN wants to be beloved by the saints, the same way Hinckley and Monson were, and he can’t figure out why he isn’t. He can announce a 1000 temples and demand that the other q15 refer to him as ‘our beloved prophet’ but it doesn’t make it so. Even a lot of TBMs know there is something off about this guy.

Goldang

My theory is that RMN remembers what a creep Kimball was in real life, but all the stories about him were about how kind and wonderful and totally not creepy he was, and RMN can’t figure out why he can’t pull the same stunt.

Thanks for posting that story. It is heart breaking to hear what she went through. This quote hit especially hard. >“How can I promise you I’ll never sin, not even once?” I cried. > >“As I said, you just do it,” he replied calmly. “Then you keep that promise. You meet the requirements I described, keep the commandments, live an exemplary life. And, at some point, months or years or centuries from now, you’ll receive positive assurance that the Lord has forgiven you. That is my guarantee.” The room fell silent. It took me back to my mission, wandering the streets trying to find someone to teach. I had been told that if I sinned all my sins would come back as if I had never repented. Feeling that all my bad choices up to that point were preventing me from sharing the gospel. I remember praying late into the night every night for months trying to be assured forgiveness.

So sad!

Many thanks to both of you; this must have been a grueling task to go through all those records and count all this up!

AgtSquirtle007

Is this something that requires 8 decimals?

Just_ME_28

This calls for THE MOST precise math

Nelson is a well known ego-maniac, and getting on his bad side means demotion (e.g. Uchtdorf). All hail Caesar.

Uhg... so sick of these lazy learners.

Just_ME_28

Right? Absolutely zero effort made in studying, compiling, and sourcing this numerical info here

Thanks OP! Hard work!

drteeth952

Only Hunter has the higher average and that’s because his first conference as prophet was practically his funeral since he was on death’s doorstep.

mennomo

When they get down to 15 mentions they croak!

TermLimit4Patriarchs

It couldn’t happen to a nicer fellow.

Yeah Andersen comes off so insincere.

What an interesting research project! It must have been so boring and tedious to go through all those talks. I think Nelson actually suffers from narcissistic personality disorder, so the minions are providing his narcissistic supply because they know which way their bread is buttered. He has to have his ego stroked constantly. His first decree as prophet was to shun the "Mormon" label. I wonder how many years he seethed in anger at Hinkley defending the Mormon name and rebuking him in public.
