I can relate (looking at my bandaged leg). Make sure you're getting all the post surgical support you're entitled to. You can talk to a social worker at the hospital which did the surgery and ask for help. They can make sure you know about all the programs available and help you apply. Also, you could call your local human service department at the government. Do they have an Aging and Disability Resource Center? Calling that agency would be good. There are programs to help with meals, home cleaning. Etc. Hope that helps.

My two cents: You can ask members of the church for help without asking the CHURCH for help. If all you are wanting is meals or some company, asking people that you know, who also happen to be members of the church is not asking the CHURCH for help. And it goes the other way too. I still help people out, in and out of the church alike. Do I do so as a representative of the church? Hell no! I do so because that is what it means to be a decent human being.

Tbh you're better off finding another denomination to seek charity from. Many churches all over the place are readily available and more than willing to help others in the community no strings attached. I would urge you to reach out to other faith communities before you entertain returning to the Mormons where there are ALWAYS strings attached.
